On this week's show, Disneyland veterans, David and Ronn dive into several sizzling Disney topics. Exploring Avengers Campus Flourish, While Galaxy's Edge Sits Stagnant. Has Marvel taken a stranglehold on Star Wars? Sure appears like Disney feels that way as it's undeniable their focus is currently on Marvel. Marvel is currently flourishing in Disney Parks, on Disney+, and at the Box Office while even in the midst of Star Wars Celebration Galaxy's Edge remains an afterthought. Avenger Campus is blossoming with new merchandise, new characters by the week, and even a new home run attraction at Disney World with Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Meanwhile... galactic crickets at Star Wars Galaxy's Edge.Which characters should have their own themed parade float? What are our favorite books about Disneyland? If we could overhaul one Land in the Parks, where would it be and what would the changes look like?Plus, we remember, celebrate, and honor Plane Crazy, Mickey's Revue, the Starcade Video Arcade, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Space Mountain, Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Disney Dollars, and Fantasmic! this week in Disney history. All this and the big reveal of our Top 5 Smells at Disneyland Resort, and more!
Matt Apodaca (Get Played) returns to the show to discuss Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters/ 's Space Ranger Spin/Laser Blast/Planet Rescue. News: Last week was the last week for Toontown as we knew it. The entire land has now closed and will reopen sometime next spring with a complete renovation. The week leading up to the closure saw a lot of guests getting in their last visit before it turns into something quite new and refreshed. This is the first time that we are aware of that an entire land has been closed for a remodel as extensive as this since the New Fantasyland in the early 80's. – https://www.micechat.com/316816-disneyland-update-bibbidi-bobbidi-kaboom/ Encanto fans can now meet Mirabel in a new location at the resort. Mirabel's meet and greet has moved from the Paradise Garden area of Disney California Adventure, where she was located during the Festival of the Holidays, to Zocalo Park in Frontierland. The lines to meet her have been long, so be prepared to wait a bit if you want to get a picture with her. – https://www.micechat.com/316816-disneyland-update-bibbidi-bobbidi-kaboom/ One of our Weeklyteers will be very excited at this next piece of news! Tinker Bell has returned to Pixie Hollow, the area between Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters and the hub. Tinker Bell has not been in her hollow since sometime in 2020 before the closure of the parks. This is a welcome addition to the meet and greet lineup and is sure to be popular. – https://www.micechat.com/316816-disneyland-update-bibbidi-bobbidi-kaboom/ Captain Marvel must be on a mission elsewhere as the jet for her meet and greet has been removed from the Hollywood Pictures Backlot. The area is now behind constructions walls. Who knows what this location will become in the future. – https://www.micechat.com/316816-disneyland-update-bibbidi-bobbidi-kaboom/ The new shop in Fantasyland that took over the old Heraldry shop has opened. Merlin's Marvelous Miscellany opened this past week. Most of the merchandise in this location is available elsewhere around the resort, except that some Peter Pan items that are usually just sold in the UK pavilion in Epcot. The details around this cozy shop are the real star here and are a must stop for any Sword in the Stone fans! – https://www.micechat.com/316633-abracadabra-merlins-marvelous-miscellany-opens-at-disneyland/ Disneyland continues to work on infrastructure for the nighttime entertainment in both parks. This week, a new canopy was installed over the top of the pits to the Fantasmic! fountains. What could this mean? MiceChat suggests that it could be new show elements being worked on or installed that will be part of the returning show. – https://www.micechat.com/316816-disneyland-update-bibbidi-bobbidi-kaboom/ With the changes coming to New Orleans Square soon, some other things are also disappearing. The two Ficus trees in the courtyard of Pirates of the Caribbean are being taken out due to disease. Hopefully new trees and their much needed shade are put back in some capacity for the queue. – https://www.micechat.com/316816-disneyland-update-bibbidi-bobbidi-kaboom/ We are already half way through March, which means that St. Patrick's Day is almost here! To celebrate, the Red Rose Taverne in Disneyland is offering “the Green Stuff,” which is a mint white chocolate mousse, chocolate make, and mint chocolate chips and chocolate cookie crumbs on a shortbread cookie. Corn Dog Castle in Disney California Adventure will offer their dogs coated in a green corn dog batter on March 17th only. Also only available on March 17th is the Strawberry Elderflower Whiskey at the Hollywood Lounge. Some other options around the resort are a Leprechan Cupcake at GCH Craftsman's Grill, and a St. Patrick's Day Whoopie Pie at the GCH Holiday Cart. For the full list, visit the link in our show notes. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/03/foodie-guide-to-st-patricks-day-2022-from-coast-to-coast/ March is Women's History Month, and the Disneyland Resort is celebrating in a number of ways. Minnie Mouse is the star of the celebration with the floral Minnie design that is currently taking the place of the standard floral Mickey in front of the train station. Downtown Disney is welcoming back Marcella Swett, who was the artist behind the Black History Month chalk drawings. to create drawings for Women's History Month. Her creations will be on display from March 15th through the 31st. Sprinkles in Downtown Disney will introduce their first Female Chef Series, starting with a Dark Chocolate Passion Fruit by Chef Brooke Williamson. To see all the things happening, check out the link in our show notes. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/03/celebrating-womens-history-month-at-disneyland-resort/ The mural on the side of the former ESPN Zone has been updated once again. This time, it is for the Food and Wine Festival. The mural features Goofy, Chip & Dale, and other Disney California Adventure scenes, all made out of food! It is a cute mural and worth checking out if you are in the area. – https://www.micechat.com/316816-disneyland-update-bibbidi-bobbidi-kaboom/ Discussion: Producer James asks Tage and Teresa Disney Questions!
Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters actually DOES have a history, believe it or not! Some of it goes back to Walt Disney World and a couple of extinct rides, and then somehow pops up in Disneyland. Taren brings us all the details, including a couple of songs we've never heard of before! Plus, we talk a bit about the MCU and how we're watching it again, and we end with some cool Disney News. We will ask people their opinion on these two amazing attractions
This week, some Genie details, what will be available in the cost, and what will be an upcharge, Web Slingers going standby….. sometimes, what is going on with the trams, new cast members of all kinds, Muppets take over, we talk about the end of our trip, and more! Please support the show if you can by going to https://www.dlweekly.net/support/. If you want some DLWeekly Swag, you can pick some up at https://www.dlweekly.net/store/. Book your travel through ConciEARS at no extra cost to you! Be sure to mention that you heard about ConciEARS from DLWeekly at booking! If you want some awesome headwear or one of a kind items, be sure to visit our friends over at All Enchanting Ears! You can use the promo code DLWEEKLY10 to get 10% off your order! News: This week, we got some more details about the Genie service coming to the parks soon. Over in Walt Disney World, the service will launch on October 19th. No date is set for Disneyland yet, but Disney says it will be announced soon. The Genie+ service, which is an additional cost, will be available at a number of attractions and works just like MaxPass from before the closure. Individual Lightning Lane selections will be an additional purchase on top of Genie+ and Lightning Lane, and will be priced from $7 to $15 per attraction, per guest. At this time, only Radiator Springs Racers, WEB Slingers, and Rise of the Resistance will be on the Lightning Lane+ service. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/10/08/disneyland-reveals-new-disney-genie-details-heres-how-the-itinerary-planning-app-works/ and https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/10/disney-genie-launching-at-walt-disney-world-resort/ At Disneyland, the following attractions will feature Lightning Lane as part of the Genie+ paid service. To be clear, these are part of the $20 per guest, per day Genie+ service, and not part of the Lightning Lane additional charge. Autopia, Big Thunder, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones, it's a small world, Matterhorn, Smuggler's Run, Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Star Tours. Over in DCA, Goofy's Sky School, Grizzly River Run, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission Breakout, Incredicoaster, Monsters, Inc., Soarin', and Midway Mania. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/10/08/disneyland-announces-22-rides-where-you-can-pay-to-skip-the-lines-heres-how/ and https://disneyland.disney.go.com/genie/ Guests that have been to Disney California Adventure this past week on rainy days may have been able to ride Web Slingers by waiting in a standby queue, instead of getting a boarding pass. Disneyland is switching to a standby queue on days when the attendance are lower for the new attraction. Guests who get a boarding group at the 7am window will have their boarding group honored, but there may not be a need for the noon boarding groups, and switch to standby only. The standby queue usually becomes active around 4-6pm. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/10/12/disneyland-pauses-web-slingers-virtual-queue-on-slow-days-and-switches-to-standby-line/ One of the big questions guests have been asking a lot recently is what is going on with the trams? The Orange County Register thinks that it is still related to the COVID-19 health and safety regulations that have been in place since the parks reopened. There were some posts online this week that said the trams were needing repairs after not being run for nearly a year and a half and maintenance teams are already overloaded. So, the real answer to when the trams come back is anyone's guess. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/10/11/when-will-disneyland-parking-lot-trams-return/ Joffrey's Coffee & Tea Company has finally made it to the west coast from Florida. The coffee stand that sits at the entrance to Pixar Pier and Paradise Wharf was recently converted to a Joffrey's, along with adding mobile ordering and some food offerings. Breakfast offerings are abailable until 11am, with a burrito available after. A chia fruit salad, sugar cookie, chocolate chip cookie, and chocolate croissants are offered all day. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/10/photos-joffreys-coffee-tea-company-makes-disneyland-resort-debut-at-the-gourmet-coffee-stand-at-disney-california-adventure/ Disney+ has been an excellent source of information and entertainment about the parks since it launched in 2019. A new movie, which will focus on the creation of Disneyland, will be debuting on the service in the future. The movie will be written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, who worked on The Jungle Book 2 and Beauty and the Beast. David Gordon Green is set to direct. He worked on Halloween and Halloween Kills as the writer and director. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/10/movie-focusing-on-disneylands-creation-coming-to-disney/ The Disneyland Resort has been hiring quite a few new cast members recently, although not a lot with more than two legs! The Circle D Ranch has recently received 5 new horses for Disneyland. The new horses are Dublin, a four-year-old Belgian and Percheron cross, Champ and his half brother Chip, who are 5 years-old and are Clydesdales. Lily is 5 years-old, with no breed mentioned. Finally, there is Pumpkin, who is one-and-a-half years old, and is a Percheron. The training to get horses from the ranch to Disneyland can take from 6 months to a year, depending on the horse. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/10/meet-the-new-disneyland-horses-at-circle-d-ranch/ After three long years, the current Disneyland Ambassadors Justin and Rafa, who would normally have held the position for two years, but because of COVID, their term was extended to three years, will retire to other positions in the parks. The new 2022-223 Ambassadors were announced last week, making their titles official. Mark is currently a stage manager in Disney California Adventure, starting with the company back in 2013. Nataly is a guest relations VIP hostess, starting with the company back in 2010. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/10/meet-the-next-disneyland-resort-ambassador-team/ Weeklyteers who are like Tage and love building models of Disneyland, there is a new 3D model book coming out soon! “Build Your Own Disneyland Park: Press Out 3D Model is now available for preorder on Amazon for $14.99. Some of the wallpapers include Miss Piggy as Madame Pigota, Animal, and Muppet versions of famous locations from the Haunted Mansion. Some of the items include a “2 DIE 4” license plate, the crystal ball from Madame Pigota, the maids spray bottle from that same scene, coffins, and more. There are even notes from the Muppets themselves about some of the items! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/10/08/photos-you-can-see-props-used-in-muppets-haunted-mansion-in-disneyland/ Uva Bar in Downtown Disney has some new drinks on the menu for Halloween. News: With the higher temperatures on the horizon for Southern California, a new safety policy couldn't come soon enough for cast members. Fully vaccinated cast members can now go mask free outdoors. Masks are still required for all cast members indoors for now. Physical distancing for all cast members, indoors or out has also been phased out. This will greatly help in tight spaces like kitchen areas around the resort. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/06/25/fully-vaccinated-disneyland-employees-no-longer-need-to-wear-masks-outdoors/ and https://www.micechat.com/294044-new-disneyland-procedures-start-june-15-masks-off-no-physical-distancing/ With all of the changes recently to all the safety protocols around the resort, MiceChat posted a guide to all the current policies. These include the new cast member guidelines we talked about previously in this episode, as well as theme park reservations sticking around for the foreseeable future, face coverings no longer required anywhere except for transportation like buses for fully vaccinated guests, un-vaccinated or partially vaccinated guests must still wear masks, physical distancing is no longer required, ride capacity is back at 100% without plexiglass shields, dining capacity has also been increased, indoor queues are back in service, both parking structures are open, out of state guests are allowed, no temperature checks are required, and entertainment has started to return. – https://www.micechat.com/294044-new-disneyland-procedures-start-june-15-masks-off-no-physical-distancing/ A sign that things are coming to an end with the pandemic is the return of single rider lines at a few attractions this week. Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, Smuggler's Run, Star Tours, and Splash Mountain at Disneyland, and Radiator Springs Racers, the Incredicoaster, and Grizzly River Run at Disney California Adventure now allow single riders. This should help get as many guests on attractions and out of the lines faster. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/06/26/disneyland-brings-back-single-rider-lines-for-most-popular-attractions/ Some attractions have reopened earlier than expected in the last week! Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters and Storybook Land Canal Boats both welcomed guests a day or two early. Storybook Land Canal Boats look great and have had a number of their elements updated during the closure. Buzz Lightyear has not been updated and we have seen reports online that some of the attraction vehicles have been tagged out of service. Hopefully maintenance can get to them soon and get Buzz back to 100%! – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/06/photos-video-buzz-lightyear-astro-blasters-soft-reopens-at-disneyland/ Some great news for guests who want to walk around and see Avengers Campus! The land is now open to everyone and the gates that were in place to control the amount of people in the new land have been removed. Guests can now freely enter the land from any of the three entrances. This is making the ability to get food and to enter stores very easy, with little to no wait on most days. – https://www.micechat.com/295081-disneyland-update-topsy-turvy-more-or-less/ For those of you visiting the parks soon, the crowds look to be great! Even though more people are allowed in the parks now, the wait times for attractions have been lower than they were before the lower capacity! This, along with the cast members getting back into the swing of things has made the process much smoother. – https://www.micechat.com/295081-disneyland-update-topsy-turvy-more-or-less/ There have been some rumors that cast members that generally work on parades have been called back to work. This could mean the return of Magic Happens sometime this summer, which only had a couple of weeks to run before the pandemic shut it down. – https://www.micechat.com/295081-disneyland-update-topsy-turvy-more-or-less/ The Disneyland hotel will begin a phased opening this week as the Fantasy Tower opens to guests. Along with the one tower, the two pools and the Monorail water slides will reopen, as well as the fitness center. The Tangaroa Terrace and Trader Sam's will also reopen to the public. – https://www.mouseplanet.com/12971/Disneyland_Resort_Update_for_June_30__July_4_2021#news1 Construction has started in the park to prepare for Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway. The facades of the Toontown Five & Dime and the Gag Factory have been demolished to make way for the new entrance for the attraction. Once completed, the new El Capitoon theater will take their place as the new entrance. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/06/photos-video-toontown-five-dime-and-gag-factory-facades-demolished-as-mickey-minnies-runaway-railway-construction-continues-at-disneyland/ We previously reported that mobile scan and go shopping was being tested in World of Disney in Downtown Disney. Now, that system has been expanded into the parks at the Emporium in Disneyland, and Elias & Co. in Disney California Adventure. Guests will use the Disneyland app or scan a QR code in the store to enter the system, then grab a mobile checkout shopping bag and scan the barcodes with their smartphone cameras to add the item to their cart. Once done, guests check out through the app and show a QR code to a cast member on the way out of the store at a designated mobile checkout exit. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/06/25/disneyland-brings-scan-and-go-shopping-to-theme-park-stores/ Hollywood Land is the place for Avengers photo ops. A new Black Panther photo op has appeared this week in the land. It is the same setup used for the previous Black Panther meet and greet, but without the character this time, due to social distancing. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/06/photos-black-panther-photo-op-arrives-in-hollywood-land-at-disney-california-adventure/ Just a quick follow up to something that we talked about a couple of weeks ago. The food waste trashcans have been rolled out to more locations around the resort recently. If you have any food waste, please dump it in these new recepticals so it can be recycled and not just end up in the landfill. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/06/25/disneyland-makes-tossing-out-leftover-food-a-little-less-wasteful/ and https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/06/disneyland-resort-expands-sustainability-efforts-with-new-food-waste-bins/ On June 27th, which was Global Pride Day, Salt & Straw donated 5% of all its proceeds to local LGBTQ+ charities. For the Downtown Disney location, Reach LA was the charity chosen. Reach LA works with young LGBTQ people of color to “increase self sustainability by encouraging creative expression, supporting safe spaces and promoting health and wellness.” – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/06/26/disneylands-salt-straw-celebrating-global-pride-day-by-donating-to-local-groups/ Another fun treat has made its way to Bing Bong's Sweet Stuff in Pixar Pier. The new Forky cake pop looks like a sweet version of the character himself. The cake pop is sweet vanilla covered in white chocolate, and decorated to look like Forky. Reviews have said that it is pretty moist and very sweet, so be aware of this. News: Today Disneyland announced how ticket sales and reservations will work for the reopening on April 30th. To enter the parks, guests will need a park reservation plus a valid theme park admission ticket. Reservations are currently limited to California residents, and groups of no more than three households. Reservations will launch on April 12th for guests that currently have valid theme park tickets (not annual passes), no earlier than 8am Pacific time. April 15th guests will be able to purchase new theme park tickets. Reservations will be made available on a rolling basis for greatest access to the most guests. Starting April 9th, guests will a valid ticket can check and see what dates they can request reservations for. Disneyland recommends that guests login to their Disneyland account and add the park tickets to the account before attempting to get reservations for the best chance at success. Park Hopping will be allowed, but only after 1pm on the reservation date. Guests with multi-day tickets will have to make separate reservations for each day they wish to attend. For complete details, visit the link in our show notes. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/04/heres-what-you-need-to-know-about-disneyland-resorts-reopening-including-theme-park-reservations-and-tickets/ The Orange County Register posted a list of attractions that will be open, and which attractions will be closed when the parks reopen. Some notable closed attractions are the Jungle Cruise, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, the Monorail, the Matterhorn, Grizzly River Run, and the Animation building. For the complete list, check out the link in our show notes. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/04/06/which-disneyland-and-dca-rides-will-be-open-when-the-parks-return/ When Disneyland reopens, there will be some limitations on indoor attractions. Attractions have to be less than 15 minutes long, and must be queued outdoors. There is a question on if Rise of the Resistance qualifies under this 15 minute limit. Pirates, Haunted, Small World, and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln are about that length, so we will have to see what happens with those. Other issues, like masks getting wet on attraction like Splash and Grizzly River Run could pose issues. – https://www.laughingplace.com/w/news/2021/03/26/california-theme-park-reopening-guidelines-released-with-specific-limits-on-indoor-attractions-and-more/ and https://www.micechat.com/286268-disneyland-update-to-dream-the-impossible-dream/ With Disneyland preparing to open in just a few weeks, there is a lot of work going on with new and existing projects, which can be seen with MiceChat’s aerial photography this week. The Matterhorn looks like there are workers on the mountain, barges are likely servicing Fantasmic! infrastructure, Splash Mountain appears to be having work done, Storybook Land has been drained and work has wrapped up on King Arthur’s Carousel, the Haunted Mansion, and Snow White. – https://www.micechat.com/286878-disneyland-update-soarin-over-a-soon-to-open-disneyland/ Orange County, where Disneyland is located, has entered the Orange tier, which allows for a maximum of 25% capacity. Indoor capacity limited to a maximum of 25%, indoor dining limited to a maximum of 25% capacity. Orange county could move into the yellow tier soon, which would increase these levels to a maximum of 35% capacity, indoor capacity limited to a maximum of 25% and indoor dining limited to a maximum of 50% capacity. – https://www.micechat.com/286878-disneyland-update-soarin-over-a-soon-to-open-disneyland/ and https://www.laughingplace.com/w/news/2021/03/26/california-theme-park-reopening-guidelines-released-with-specific-limits-on-indoor-attractions-and-more/ After Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened, it was just a matter of time before this next change showed up elsewhere in Disneyland. When the Blue Bayou reopens it will have alcohol on the menu. This will operate similarly to how it works in Oga’s Cantina in Galaxy’s Edge, which allows guests to order off a limited menu for beverages. Beer, wine, and a signature drink, which is a hurricane will be available. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/03/disney-parks-best-bites-april-2021/ and https://www.micechat.com/286631-blue-bayou-dining-to-add-limited-adult-beverages-when-it-reopens/ Continuing with their environmentally friendly approach, Disney Parks will start offering the option to purchase bamboo utensils at select dining locations starting this Spring. They even come with a handy travel pouch to keep them clean and together. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/03/disney-parks-best-bites-april-2021/ For guests that attended the Touch of Disney event and liked the brisket Mac and cheese, the Disney Parks Blog has posted the recipe to make it at home. There is quite a lot that goes into the various parts of the dish, but looks like it will be quite tasty. Check out the link in the show notes to try your hand at this one. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/04/disneymagicmoments-cooking-up-the-magic-brisket-mac-n-cheese-recipe-from-a-touch-of-disney-at-disney-california-adventure-park/ Guests that have attended a Touch of Disney have experienced some issues when it came to cast member staffing. Disney has had trouble filling all the shifts needed to properly staff all the locations, when taking into account call outs. This additional work for the cast members that do work their shifts, has caused those cast members to call out as well. The way Disney is calling back the most senior cast is causing a delay in getting the proper levels, which keeps this problem going. – https://www.micechat.com/286878-disneyland-update-soarin-over-a-soon-to-open-disneyland/ Mickey Mouse himself has moved to a more friendly location for photos with guests during the Touch of Disney event. The famous mouse now makes appearances in the extended queue section of Ariel’s Undersea Adventure. Previously, Mickey was in his conductor outfit up at the Silly Symphony Swings. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/04/01/this-new-selfie-spot-at-disneylands-a-touch-of-disney-has-us-feeling-so-emotional/ The Lamplight Lounge has a secret drink menu! This time, it is banana’s foster glazed beignets. This variation comes in a 4 pack with a vanilla bean crème anglaise dipping sauce. The beignets are covered in a banana rum glaze and topped with a cinnamon-sugar dust, with a caramel drizzle.- https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/04/review-bananas-foster-glazed-beignets-at-ralph-brennans-jazz-kitchen-express-in-downtown-disney-district/ Two things to note at Downtown Disney this week. First, you can buy a refillable mug at Wetzel’s for $14.99, which includes a drink, you can then bring it back for a free refill, with additional refills for just $1! The other is a corndog that contains a pickle with a hotdog inside of it! You can pick one up at Blue Ribbon Corndogs. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/04/02/whats-new-in-downtown-disney-pickle-corn-dogs-tweed-ears-and-4-mugs/ Disneyland launched quite the PR campaign almost two weeks ago now, but we wanted to make sure that we learned more about it before we discussed it on the show. It was a little delayed by our trip to California as well. DisneylandForward is the name of this campaign, and while initially people thought it was plans for an expansion, it is really just a vague representation of what they could do, if Anaheim will approve the rezoning into more of a mixed use area.- http://www.disneylandforward.com/ and https://www.micechat.com/286268-disneyland-update-to-dream-the-impossible-dream/

http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Let's blast off to Disneyland and ride the spinning shooter Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters! Recorded onJune 18, 2019. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. Let’s head to Tomorrowland in Disneyland to ride Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. The Disneyland website describes this attraction by saying: Calling all Space Rangers! Take aim and fire your laser to defeat Zurg during a thrilling space battle. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes it as being a Spinning Slow Ride that is Dark and Loud. Fast Passes are available for this attraction. Before we sign up for Start Command, here are five fast facts about Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. 1. Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters officially opened at Disneyland on March 17, 2005. It replaced the queue area for the short lived Rocket Rods attraction. 2. Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters is a version of a ride that originally opened in Magic Kingdom and has been replicated in every Disney Park Around the world! It’s also known by many different names including Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Buzz Licghtyear Laser Blast and Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue. 3. The ride vehicles guests ride on in this attraction are called XP-40 space cruisers. 4. Each ride vehicle includes two ‘blasters’ for guests to use to try and hit targets during the ride and a joystick that allows riders to spin the ride vehicle 360 degrees. 5. Shooting the various Z’s throughout the ride give you points but the various shapes that the Z’z are in give you different point values. Triangles give the least points while circles give you the most! Let’s go see how high we can score on Buzz Light Year Astro Blasters. After we ride I’ll give you my thoughts on this attraction. This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we ride Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters at Disneyland! The castle has been blocked off from visitors since January, as groups of maintenance crews have been giving it a spruce. The crews also added some artistic tricks to make the castle seem bigger. A painting technique was used that involves painting the lower parts of the 70-foot tall castle walls in darker and warmer hues of pink paint, gradually getting lighter and cooler as it goes up to the top in order to blend in with the atmosphere. My sound naturally makes things sader anyway, but I also knew that I couldn’t make this overtly sad, too! It’s needed to strike that ‘hopes and fears’ balance.”Over 1,000 voices are included in the final track, which he also credited in an Instagram post. And just like the attraction the song plays through, the voices span around the globe including the USA, Canada, The Philippines, Germany, Brazil, United Kingdom, Mexico, and more.Go lsitenEverything coming to Disney+ in JuneMovies Artemis Fowl (6/12)Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (6/26)Tarzan (6/26)Tarzan II (6/26)Tinker Bell and the Pirate Fairy (6/19)Walt & El Grupo (6/12)TV 101 Dalmatians: Season 1 (6/19)Alaska’s Grizzly Gauntlet: Season 1 (6/5)America’s Greatest Animals (6/5)Big Sur: Wild California (6/19)Chasing the Equinox (6/5)Howie Mandel’s Animals Doing Things: Seasons 1-2 (6/5)Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2 (6/26)Man in Space (6/26)Mars and Beyond (6/26)Mighty Med: Seasons 1-2 (6/12)Muppet Babies Play Date: Season 1 (6/19)Raven's Home: Season 3 (6/26)Schoolhouse Rock: Season 1 (6/19)Secrets of Wild India: Season 1 (6/5)The Greeks: Season 1 (6/5)The Liberty Story (6/12)The Story of the Animated Drawing (6/12)Weird but True!: Seasons 1-2 (6/5)Wild Hawaii: Season 1 (6/5)Women of Impact: Changing the World (6/5)MAIN - The Lost Attractions of Disneyland part 3Disneyland Branch of Bank of America (1955–1993): A Bank of America with three ATMs to useBank of Main Street U.S.A. (1993–2005)Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln (1965–1973): Theater presentation featuring an Audio-Animatronic Abraham Lincoln, and a replica of a similar attraction at the 1964 New York World's Fair. Elements of the original show were incorporated into later versions of the attraction from 1975–2004 and from 2009–present.The Walt Disney Story (1973–1975): Biographical film about Walt Disney, which originally appeared at Walt Disney World in 1972.The Walt Disney Story featuring Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln (1975–2004: A combination of the two previous shows. Disneyland had been criticized for replacing the Lincoln tribute with a tribute to Walt Disney, and combined elements of the two shows in response. From 2001–2004 the Disney tribute was removed, and the entire show was given more of a focus on the American Civil War.Merlin's Magic Shop (1955–1983): The original magic shop in the park. A second one on Main Street, U.S.A. opened in 1957 and continues to this day. Mickey Mouse Club Theater (1955–1964): Walk-in theater continuously showing animated Disney films and shorts, similar to the Main Street Cinema. Renamed Fantasyland Theater (1964–1982; not to be confused with the present-day theater). Now the site of Pinocchio's Daring Journey.Circarama, U.S.A. (1955–1997), renamed Circle-Vision 360° in 1967: A film presentation showing scenes from around the United States and later China. Guests stood in a large circular room and watched a film projected on nine large, contiguous screens that surrounded them. During its run, the attraction was hosted by American Motors, Bell System, AT&T Corporation, Pacific Southwest Airlines, and Delta Air Lines. Shows were:A Tour of the West (1955–1959)America the Beautiful (1960–1984)"All Because Man Wanted to Fly" (lobby pre-show) (1984–1989)American Journeys (1984–1996)Wonders of China (1984–1996)America the Beautiful (1996–1997)In 1998, the theater became the queue for the short-lived Rocket Rods attraction. The building now houses Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters.Skyway to Tomorrowland (1956–1994): This ride, a typical aerial lift ride seen in many parks, traveled from a chalet on the west side of Fantasyland, through the Matterhorn, to a station in Tomorrowland. Cabins hung from cables and ran constantly back and forth between the two lands. The Fantasyland station stood until 2016 – closed to public access – adjacent to the Casey Jr. Circus Train, and was concealed by trees. It was demolished for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge construction. Its support towers were removed and the holes in the Matterhorn through which the ride passed were filled in.Rainbow Caverns Mine Train (1956–1959): A 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) narrow gauge mine train attraction through the new Living Desert. After the scenery was again redone in 1960, it was also upgraded and became:Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland (1960–1977): The Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attraction replaced this sedate train ride with a roller coaster version. The only element that remained in place from its scenic vistas was the mighty waterfall tumbling from Cascade Peak into the Rivers of America, visible only from various boat rides around the Rivers. The structure that formed Cascade Peak and its waterfalls was demolished in 1998 after it was found to be suffering structurally from the decades of water that had flowed over it. One of the four locomotives and two cars from the ride remained on a stretch of track where Cascade peak once stood, as a staged wreck scene. The train, however, was removed in early 2010 during the Rivers of America refurbishment. The cacti that were a part of the Living Desert section were mostly relocated to the Magic Kingdom version of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Other remnants from Nature's Wonderland include the tunnel from Bear Country, the buttes from the Living Desert, the tunnel into Rainbow Caverns (though half-buried in concrete), and the jumping fish seen in Bear Country, all visible on Big Thunder Trail. The animals, however, were buried in concrete as the Imagineers didn't know where to place them. The Disney Gallery (1987–2007): A gallery of Disney-related art. The Disney Gallery was the only area listed on Disneyland maps as both an attraction and a retail location. The Gallery sometimes featured preliminary artwork and sketches from certain attractions or movies, sometimes (as in the 100 Mickeys exhibit) the displayed art was associated only with Disney and not with any specific attraction, film, or event. Often, prints from the exhibit were available for purchase via the print-on-demand system, and the Gallery always featured items such as books about Disney artwork. The Gallery used to sell prints of the ride posters featured in the tunnels leading to and from Main Street. The former gallery was replaced by the Disneyland Dream Suite. In October 2009 the gallery re-opened, but now it resides on Main Street, U.S.A..In the early 1960s as construction of New Orleans Square was proceeding, Walt Disney decided he needed a bigger entertaining facility for various VIPs that came to the park. He already had an apartment above the Fire Station on Main Street, U.S.A., but it was too small to host elaborate events. Walt decided to place the suite in New Orleans Square, set back from the hustle and bustle of the park.Disney brought in set designer Dorothea Redmond, famous for creating the sets in Gone with the Wind, to help him with the apartment layout. To furnish and decorate the area, he left his wife Lilly and Walt Disney Studio set decorator Emile Kuri to collaborate as they had on other projects (Club 33, the Firehouse Apartment, etc.). The project was christened The Royal Suite, inspired by its location off New Orleans Square's Royal Street. After Walt Disney died on December 15, 1966, many projects at Walt Disney Productions were put on hold or abandoned. At the request of his brother Roy, who felt the family would not enjoy The Royal Suite with Walt gone, the project was quietly set aside. It was fairly close to completion at the time of Disney's death, including infrastructure and plumbing. From July 11, 1987, to August 7, 2007, the space housed the Disney Gallery. On October 1, 2007 the Walt Disney Company announced that the recently closed Disney Gallery would be remodeled and turned into the Disneyland Dream Suite. The remodeled suite would be the realization of Walt's dream to have a larger private apartment built at Disneyland, and would be made available to randomly selected guests of the park. The space underwent a whirlwind remodeling, with Disney Imagineers closely following the original design drawings from Dorothea Redmond. Located above the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, the Disneyland Dream Suite included a living room, open-air patio, two bedrooms and two bathrooms.“Our plan has been to use the renderings that Walt worked on with Dorothea Redmond and to replicate those as exactly as we can,” said Walt Disney Imagineering Art Director Kim Irvine. “Her illustrations were very specific, with a color and style for each room.“But to make it special for the guests, we want it to be more than just a beautiful suite. We want it to be filled with things that might have inspired Walt as he dreamed of Disneyland."One of the most distinctive characteristics of the Dream Suite was the private balcony, which overlooked the Rivers of America. From here guests had an unobstructed view of the nighttime spectacular Fantasmic! In addition to that night’s lodging in the Disneyland Dream Suite, each selected 2008 Disney Dreams Giveaway winner of the Disneyland Dream Suite would also be celebrated as the honorary grand marshal in that day’s Disneyland parade. The Suite was given out as a prize through various promotions. The original concept for Holidayland was that of a turn-of-the-century town park, with picnic areas, horseshoe pits, a baseball diamond, and perhaps an open field where a circus could come to perform. This original version would be located where the Matterhorn sits today. As Disneyland came together in 1954, it became apparent that there wasn't enough space within the park for Holidayland to become a reality, and the land (now sometimes called "Recreationland") became a picnic and recreation area, with minor seasonal holiday decorations. In November 1955, the Mickey Mouse Club Circus came to Disneyland, in the Fantasyland section of the park. This event only lasted until January 1956, and was themed to the celebration of Christmas, with promotional material referring to the circus as "Holidayland," including a November 25, 1955 Los Angeles Times article declaring "Holidayland was a roaring success. The kids consumed great amounts of popcorn, and Walt Disney enjoyed himself as much as anybody. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Today, we’re going to be heading to infinity, and beyond, as we talk about that infamous Space Ranger, Buzz Lightyear, and his many attractions around the world. Now, when talking about the many attractions to bear Buzz Lightyear’s name, it’s easy to think of Magic Kingdom having the original, but that’s actually not the case. As a matter of fact, Magic Kingdom was beaten by it’s now defunct quasi-sibling a few miles away, DisneyQuest. Buzz Lightyear AstroBlasters opened with DisneyQuest in 1998. Looking like a bumper car on steroids, AstroBlasters combined the driving and bumping of dodgems with a rubber ball cannon that could be used to blast other cars in the arena, causing them to spin uncontrollably for a few seconds. This fast-paced game was best played with two players and could command pretty high wait times, but it was certainly unique, and memorable. In November 1998, Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin opened in the former home of If You Had Wings, If You Could Fly, Delta Dreamflight, and Take Flight. Utilizing the exact same layout and vehicle type as the previous tenants, Space Ranger Spin was the first laser-based interactive attraction built by Disney. In this ride, Guests board a XP-37 spaceship ride vehicle with a joystick that allows the ship to spin on the track. Throughout the ride, Guests shoot at “Z” targets located on robots, ships, landscapes (including a volcano) and other minions of the evil Emperor Zurg. Fun fact, the ride actually incorporated a few elements from the previous attraction housed in that building, including the speed tunnel from If You Had Wings, the jet engine effect and even the base of the marquee from Delta Dreamflight. Seriously, same sign, take a close look! A couple additional interesting features of Magic Kingdom’s ride include the ability to see into the attraction from the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover, and it is the only version of this attraction with blasters mounted to the ride vehicle. The next version of the attraction opened in 2004 at Tokyo Disneyland, now named Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. There, it had replaced the Visionarium attraction, known as Timekeeper in the United States. While very similar to the Florida version, now the blasters could be lifted off the spaceships, allowing for much more freedom in aiming. Disneyland followed shortly thereafter in 2005, replacing the queue for the ill-fated Rocket Rods attraction, which was also previously the Circle-Vision theater. This version, similar to Tokyo, also had removable blasters, but can also send scores to visitors, along with their pictures, at home. Due to the unique home of this attraction, it has a more compact and tightly placed queue and ride path, but is still a marked improvement from the WDW original. The attraction was later added to Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong, and Shanghai, with the latter two getting new purpose-built facilities instead of replacing older attractions. Like Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland, these versions of the attraction continued to feature detached blasters. Interestingly, Hong Kong Disneyland’s version, opened in 2005, has gone to the great space station in the sky, being replaced in 2017 with the Ant Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle! attraction, based on the Marvel film. While very similar to the Buzz Lightyear attraction that preceded it, Nano Battle removes the ability to control the spin of the cars, allowing designers to focus Guest attention in the direction they choose. Despite newer and arguably more impressive rides of these types being launched since the original Space Ranger Spin premiered, these attractions are still very popular and manage to attract long waits at their parks. Certainly they are trailblazers, and it will be interesting to see what kind of interactive shooting dark rides will come to be in the future.
