Today I speak with Ellie Krieger, who's a New York Times bestselling and two-time James Beard Foundation award winning author of 7 cookbooks. She's also well known from her Food Network show “Healthy Appetite” and her Public Television series “Ellie's Real Good Food.” Ellie shares how she developed her love for food growing up in New York City and why she decided to become a registered dietician nutritionist. She opens up about her own struggles with food and body image as a kid and young adult, and how she found balance and freedom around food. We discuss the term “healthy” which can be a confusing and even problematic word in many ways, but Ellie offers so much clarity around how what's healthy is so contextual. She shares what healthy means to her and why she uses the word. And finally, we have some fun. Ellie and I share our favorite flavor-packed but low-effort ways that you can use summer produce. But I believe in you. I believe in our team, and I believe that we can do this. And because of that, I have created, I'm so excited, a very cool, fun, community-based, lassies together webinar. And it's free. So for three days, I'm going to show up live for you. I'm going to coach you. It's going to be interactive. You're going to be able to send in questions. I've already created a Facebook page, and listen. Oh, it just makes my heart so happy because the lassies are already on there, introducing themselves. They're talking about some of the hard things that come with being a working mother and also having children at home for the summer. And really this rule applies, whether your kids are very little and require lots of attention or whether they are older, because the mom guilt that many of us experience really is across the board, right? Whether you have a 17-year-old sitting playing gaming all day, or like me, you have a four-year-old who wants to play tea time. Okay? We love you, Charlie. I love my tea parties with you, if you ever listen to this podcast one day when you're older, sweet girl. Okay? So easy summer was inspired by my clients. So in our coaching in EmpoweredLife, we've been talking a lot about just some of the expectations of summer and what it does to our mom brains when we feel like we are failing at all of the things. And it's funny, when I started researching easy summer and hard summer, this will just blow your mind. Okay, easy summer hashtag had less than 1000 times it was used. Hard summer hashtag, look it up. There's literally like 500,000 times it's been shared. Why? Because a lot of us get a lot of anxiety when we're moving into summer because we have to figure out childcare help for our kids. We have a lot of guilt around how much we work, when we work. And so talking to my clients, talking to my team, and saying like, how can we help? Today we're sharing 5 easy summer props to pose with! We're sharing tips on using props you already have around your house and a few inexpensive ways to find props for your next photo shoot. Prop #1: Pool floaties You don't even need a pool to pose with a pool floatie. You can use pool floaties to pose at lake or even your backyard with a sprinkler. Pool floaties are a great way to add a pop of color. Plus, you can deflate them and they're easy to pack and store. One of the best spots to pick up an inexpensive pool floatie is Target. They have pool floaties starting at $4. The Sun Squad brand has stripe donut shaped floaties, pineapple shaped floaties, and unicorn pool floats. Prop #2: Lawn games If you have lawn games at home, you can also use them to set up a summer photo shoot. I used out giant jenga set and our giant outdoor connect 4 for a brand photo shoot last month and the photos turned out so cute! You can find outdoor lawn games at Target, Amazon, or even at secondhand shops. Here are other lawn games you can use as props for summer photo shoots:· Ladder ball set· Giant dice· Croquet Set· Bean bag toss or cornhole setTune in to listen to the rest of props!Follow Emma on Instagram: @emmasedition | Pinterest: @emmaseditionFollow Maddy on Instagram: @madcrayy | Pinterest: @madcrayyFollow the Content Creatives Podcast: @contentcreativespodcastJoin the Content Creatives Podcast Facebook Group!

Summer is just about here and we've actually passed Memorial Day in the U.S. which marks for us the unofficial start to summer. You probably know all too well about the “summer slowdown” – that time of year when everyone seems to be on vacation or planning one. So big plans are tabled until fall, and unless you are in a seasonal business and this is your time of year it’s easy to feel like your business or career growth is in a bit of a slump. Now I know not everyone listening to this podcast is in the northern hemisphere so if you are living somewhere and it's getting colder outside keep this episode in your back pocket as a future reference. What I want to offer you in this episode is some reasons why it’s important to continue to network through the summer and some ways you can do it without feeling like you’re missing out on enjoying the gorgeous weather. Networking in the Summer is the best! What better time than during the longer sunny days to be face-to-face networking? In fact, recent economic downturns have caused many shifts in how we do business. Customers today are now significantly more cautious when making decisions to buy anything, and there is a continuing – and growing – push to “buy local”. And how does this compare to social networking - making connections with others via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram or any of the many social platforms? You might be wondering how in-person networking opportunities measure up against online social networking. Here’s the thing: social networking is an awesome tool for your business that you can use to connect with people anywhere, anytime –virtually every successful business owner knows that. However, it is most effective as an awareness tool to be used to create more touchpoints before someone is willing to take a meeting or buy a product or service. If you want to really accelerate your business or career growth – make more sales, hone your in-person communication skills, and even get new inspiration for your business – face-to-face networking is the answer. Fun Networking Ideas to Spice up the Summer 1. Schedule 1-2-1 meet-ups at establishments with outdoor seating. Who said you had to sit indoors for the meeting to be more professional? Enjoy your meeting outdoors while you take in the beauty of a summer’s day. I love the idea of chatting with like-minded people in a friendly, open-aired environment. Bonus tip: schedule these for mid-afternoon on Friday and call it your "last appointment." The pleasant meet-up and knowing you'll be starting your weekend early will motivate you to get work done in the morning. 2. Network while doing a summertime activity that you enjoy -Whether it's hiking, golfing, sailing or walking a nature trail you can network and enjoy the beautiful weather. Again, networking is not limited to sitting indoors. Let’s change our paradigm to suit the summer season. 3. Attend a conference to get involved in your field and make the connections you need to grow your business or your career. Here, you can connect with potential referral partners, joint venture partners, and connectors. This may involve travel to some cool places or at the very least get you out of your normal environment for a little while. Perhaps even be a tourist or a tour guide in your own backyard as you plan activities with other conference goers. 4. Volunteer - at fundraising walks, 5Ks, triathlons, or for any cause that resonates with you. Put some of the time you have this summer to good use by giving back to the community. Plus, you’re likely to meet a diverse group of people from all walks of life who share a common interest with you - or perhaps who will need your services or could offer you your next big opportunity. 5. Just be social! After all, it is summer – the time of backyard BBQs, endless youth & church events, annual picnics, college (and family!) reunions...you name it! Yes, these events may seem more “personal” rather than “business”, but who knows who you might meet up with? Remember What Networking Is Not… No matter what summer networking opportunity you decide to take advantage of, remember my #1 tip... Don’t network specifically to “make a sale”. You are there to meet people. Is every single person you meet able to provide you a new opportunity? Of course not – but it doesn’t mean they’re not worth getting to know! If you’re new to networking, I know how frustrating this can be. Over time, you’ll be able to polish your networking skills and reap the benefits of quality relationships. It’s summer – use this season to your benefit by taking advantage of all the great networking opportunities that exist beyond the confines of your office. Get out there, start shaking hands and making eye contact – with real people – not with your computer screen! Lastly, I would like to make a request. If you find value in this podcast please share it with your like-minded friends and colleagues. I am so grateful to the people in my life who shared their favorite books, courses and podcasts with me because they changed my life. And I remember exactly who shared those resources with me. Not so easy summer listening: All Art of the Diet podcast episodes: 1-144. The third year anniversary of PODSNACKS/Art of the Diet is mid August. From now until then, I am going to edit all episodes for relevancy and topic. Can I listen to myself that much? Dunno. But, each week I'll be rebroadcasting one I think worth re-listening to if you are a veteran listener or a good one for a new listener. I'll figure out what I'll do with those I decide to keep when the editing task is over. All I know is whatever form it ends up in, a PDF form, a book, a comic strip, I'll offer to my loyal listeners! You can sign up on my artofthediet.com website. I'll be occasionally using Facebook and WW Connect over this period but I'll be in re-broadcast mode until my green editor's hat is back in the drawer. If you have any episode you particularly found helpful, let me know the episode # and I'll include it in the rebroadcast queue. www.artofthediet.com/145 www.thephotogardener.com
Here's a little summer vibe preview for ya from Seattle's 206 BOYZ
This week, Faith and the gang discuss the best (new!) non-stick pans to buy—and one of the top picks is just $44. Plus, Mark Raymond introduces a $14 organic red wine, Cuma Malbec. It drinks like a $30 bottle, and Faith’s serving it well chilled. And Alex Province shares his mother’s recipe for Chorizo with Clams and Rice. Invite some friends over for this. Finally, the Kreitlers are in the house! Allison, a freelance recipe developer and food stylist, and her finance-wiz husband Charlie join the party to share a simple summer spritz and a fresh hors d’oeuvre you can change up for every season. Right now, we’re using peaches and nectarines as the base for goat cheese, pine nuts, and local honey. And since Faith asks Charlie to sing for his supper, you’ll get a few quick tips from one of New Haven’s top wealth management professionals.
