Dom Giordano, WPHT host and former teacher, has dedicated much of his daily show toward parents who are taking it into their own hands to push back against school boards that have a negative impact on their children. This has culminated in a weekly podcast on education, Readin', Writin', and Reason, which has allowed wonderful relationships to develop between Giordano, educators, and parents throughout the country who are speaking out against overbearing school boards. First, Dom welcomes in Brian Kilmeade, author of Teddy and Booker T: How Tow American Icons Blazed a Path for Racial Equality, back onto the Dom Giordano Program to hear a historical contextualization of the emerging third party candidate, Robert Kennedy Jr, discussing the time that Teddy Roosevelt ran as a third party candidate, pointing out the differences from his time to now. Kilmeade and Giordano uses Roosevelts often unheard story as an example of things that aren't, but should be taught in public schools. Along with the conversation about third party candidates, Giordano asks Kilmeade his thoughts on who Trump may choose as his vice presidential candidate. Also, Giordano and Kilmeade delve into Kilmeade's work history, with Kilmeade telling in depth his time spent with NFL hall-of-famer Jim Brown, an incredibly inspirational stories. Then, Dom welcomes in Terry Strada, National Chair of 9/11 Families United, onto the podcast after a recent poll revealed that one in five Gen Zs have a positive view of Osama Bin Laden, noting that what he did was a net positive for the World. Strada and Giordano share a deep discussion about the newest generation and what's led to sympathy for terrorists, with Strada stressing the importance of education about the day so accuracies and factual information makes it to our children. Finally, Dom welcomes in David Zweig back onto the podcast on the one-year anniversary of his release of the Twitter Files, which exposed the censorship that persisted on Twitter throughout the Coronavirus pandemic. In his reporting a year ago, Zweig exposed that Twitter was censoring information that was true but inconvenient to US governmental policy, also discrediting doctors and other experts who disagreed and suppressing ordinary users, including some sharing the CDC's own data. Zweig offers his thoughts on what has unfolding since then concerning Twitter, now named X after an Elon Musk takeover, which largely happened because of this information coming to light.

For more than a year the PGA, the world's leading pro golf league, has basically been at war with the upstart Saudi-funded LIV Golf league. Lawsuits and countersuits were filed as the the leagues competed for marquee golfers and control of the narrative around the game. Some PGA players resisted big paydays to join LIV because they were critical of the Saudi Public Investment Fund, the source of the league's seemingly endless supply of money. But last week, the two leagues announced a plan to join forces.Though the deal has yet to be finalized, it's already faced backlash from players who remain loyal to the tour, and from human rights activists who see this as an attempt by the Saudi government to use sports to draw attention away from their record of human rights abuses. NPR's Susan Davis speaks with Sally Jenkins, a sports columnist for the Washington Post, who wrote a column critical of the merger, and Terry Strada, who chairs the group 9/11 Families United, which represents thousands of surviving family members of those killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks. Strada has been one of the most vocal critics of the plan. We also hear from Doug Greenberg, a writer for the sports news site Front Office Sports, who says the Saudi-backed league has actually been good for golf.

Here's a timeline of the discussion: :10 - Introduce Terry and her role with "9/11 Families United" :53 - Terry takes us through what happened on Sept. 11... 2:09 - Her husband Tom called soon after the plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center. She describes that call and the panic that followed. 2:47 - How did "9/11 Families United" come about? She joined in 2002 to find out why and how this happened... and who was behind it. Her mission to hold Saudi Arabia accountable. 4:17 - She talks about the point she knew Saudi was accountable, holding the government accountable & why previous Presidential administrations haven't helped. Also brings to light the "Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism" Act presented by Congress. 5:42 - The Saudis play dirty... bullying, bribery, threaten people and kill them. 6:53 - Why there has been pushback to release info on Saudis from all administrations before Biden. Choosing Saudis over America's interests because of oil, geopolitical reasons, etc... but it's no excuse. The U.S. government isn't forcing the Saudi Kingdom to own up to its wrongdoings. 7:55 - Her reaction to declassification of 9/11 documents under the "Transparency Act." A lot of information is still redacted. Revealed that Saudi diplomats who had credentials to work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were extremists who were setting up support networks for the 9/11 terrorists. 10:27 - Has there been any communication with President Biden? Terry says he's obligated to address this with MBS when he meets with him next month now that they have phone and bank records linking the Saudi government with 9/11. "Operation Encore" by the FBI has revealed all of these details. There is now evidence of Saudi involvement and President Biden must address it. 12:19 - How does the lawsuit stand now and what's next? 12:51 - Where can we see these redacted documents? The FBI Vault online. There is a protective order against releasing more information at the request of the Saudi government. 14:12 - Her reaction when she first heard about LIV Golf. 17:05 - Her late husband was a scratch golfer. What was her reaction to his brush off? 19:52 - Is this how MBS wins... sportswashing? 21:02 - The Ladies European Tour in women's golf has six Saudi funded events. What are the dangers of the Aramco Series? 24:08 - Terry sends a clear message to female golfers on the LPGA Tour thinking about accepting Saudi money – you will be a mouthpiece and lose your great history in the game. 25:12 - What would her message be to the LPGA Commissioner and players to avoid a hostile takeover of women's golf by the Saudi's and MBS? 27:11 - How much does what happened on 9/11 still haunt you?

The Washington Post's David Ignatius reported this week that President Joe Biden will sit down with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman during a trip to the region later in June.  The White House's thinking here is pretty straightforward. The president has a gargantuan domestic political liability — high gas prices — that Saudi Arabia is in a position to help with. Combine that with the international political realities — MBS is young and will likely lead the kingdom for decades, the West needs new sources of oil given Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and Saudi Arabia's role as a regional power — and you have the makings of a rapprochement. In a letter obtained exclusively by Playbook and being sent to Biden today, 9/11 Families United is demanding Biden bring up “accountability for 9/11 in any conversations” he has with MBS. If Biden doesn't, the family members write, “it would signal to the world that you are willing to indulge years more of Saudi obfuscation and obstruction, and that America prioritizes the interests of foreign powers and economics more than the lives of its citizenry.” Read the letter Subscribe to the POLITICO Playbook newsletter Raghu Manavalan is the Host of POLITICO's Playbook. The Forum was established on 28 July 2000 with the mandate to deal with indigenous issues related to economic and social development, culture, the environment, education, health, and human rights. Since 2000, Indigenous peoples throughout the world have been and continue participating in the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues as an international mechanism for articulating our grievances to the international, settler colonial, nation-states. From April 25th, 2022, to May 6th, 2022, the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues is being held at the UN headquarters in New York. This year's theme is “Indigenous peoples, business, autonomy and the human rights principles of due diligence including free, prior and informed consent”. In the first segment of today's program we hear excerpts from the UN Press Conference Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues held on April 25, 2022, and the call for the United Nations to launch a formal investigation into the Canadian government's role in violating the human rights of Indigenous peoples and their First Nations associated with Canada's violent legacy of residential schools and committing acts of genocide. Part 2: The United States incarcerates more people per capita than any other developed country. In fact, in March 2020, before many COVID-19-related releases took place, about 2.3 million people were imprisoned in state, federal, military and U.S. territory prisons; local and federal jails; juvenile and immigration detention centers; Indian Country jails; civil commitment centers and state psychiatric hospitals. In addition, before the 1970s, 100 people out of every 100,000 were incarcerated. In 2018, 655 people out of 100,000 were behind bars. Native American, American Indians, Native Hawaiians, etc., often are disproportionately incarcerated at higher rates compared to “other” populations. In some states, such South and North Dakotas, Alaska, etc., Native Americans comprise of ~10% of the state's overall population but represent ~38% of the prison population. Nonetheless, the prison-industrial-complex system has consistently grown since early 1970s when former U.S. President Nixon declared the “War on Drugs”. In the state of California, over 5,300 mostly non-white incarcerated peoples are serving life without parole despite not committing murder. Senate Bill 300, The Sentencing Reform Act of 2021, passed the California senate in 2021, but still needs to pass the California state assembly. Tune in to hear our second guest, a long-time social justice advocate, inform listeners about the need for judicial reform in helping stop incarcerated peoples serving life without parole who never murdered anyone, but did commit misdemeanors felonies. SB 300 would provide California state judges judicial powers and discretion in stopping this human rights injustice in the California judicial system. Guest: Geri Silva, founder and coordinator of Families United to End Life Without Parole (FUEL).

It's been about six weeks since Russian forces invaded Ukraine. In that time, millions of Ukrainians have fled the country -- many of them refusing to leave without their beloved family pets. That flood of images of refugees with children in tow, and dogs or cats in carriers or in their arms, made Dr. Jon Geller want to do something to help. So, in March, the Fort Collins-based emergency veterinarian hopped on a plane and headed overseas. Once there, he set up a clinic providing the necessary care to ensure families' pets are cleared to travel to other European countries. In 2015, Geller founded the Street Dog Coalition, a nonprofit based in northern Colorado that helps people experiencing homelessness get free vet care for their companion animals. He quickly discovered that his mission assisting Ukrainian refugees wasn't all that different from helping unsheltered people care for their pets here in the U.S.Colorado Edition had the opportunity to talk with Dr. Geller on April 1, shortly after he'd returned home from the Ukrainian border.Colorado Edition is hosted and produced by Erin O'Toole (@ErinOtoole1). Bobbi and her husband also have a child together. Bobbi dealt with some issues with her bio kids and her ex-husband, who she refers to as her “wasband”, when he and his new partner spoke negatively about her and downplayed her as a mom. Needless to say, this greatly impacted her kids. Over time, Bobbi and her “wasband” were able to reconcile and have a good co-parenting relationship. This episode is a bit different because we are doing a call-in show with my friend Bob Forrest!  If you haven’t heard my previous episode with Bob, the co-founder of Alo House Recovery Center, be sure to check that out next.     So, we gave out a number and had you guys phone in with all your questions regarding sobriety, addiction, codependency, recovery, and my supposed debt to Orlando Bloom. It gets real on this episode, so I hope you enjoy!  I look forward to more connection with you guys in the future. It is really great to connect and interact beyond Instagram comments and DMs.       Some stand-out questions were:    Our opinion on needle exchange systems and clean injection sites How to recover from being a “weekend warrior” Enabling and its destructive outcomes Finding mental health care and support in difficult financial circumstances  Overcoming insecurity and anxiety   And that just scratches the surface.  We get deep into each topic, and Bob offered some stellar advice.  Many questions were about being a loved one to an addict. My heart truly goes out to those in this situation.  I see your pain, and I believe acknowledging your own pain is really important to the healing process. You can’t bring negative energy and shame to your loved one, and you definitely can’t force them to recover.  But you can heal yourself first.     We are all on this earth to process something on a spiritual level.  Sometimes, addiction and healing are part of this process. Don’t let negative feelings and energy have power over you.  Reach out and get help, no matter the scale. Just start with the next indicative action, and take baby steps from there.     Hearing my listeners’ stories is why I do this work.  All I do is for the collective. And the message I share is that you can recover, despite the trauma and pain.  Trust me, you can do this thing.      If I can make a living amends, pay off my court fees 8 years later, and thank Orlando Bloom for kind of saving my life, then you can recover too!  You’ll just have to listen to the episode to understand!   #ANDSOITIS   If you or someone you love needs help, go to alorecovery.com    Resources we discussed in this episode:  Families United for Recovery Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACA) Brené Brown Alo House

This week’s episode features special guest Lauryn Evarts Bosstick from The Skinny Confidential.  She joins us to talk about her goals with her brand, being her authentic self, and dealing with a family member’s addiction. The Skinny Confidential has become a multi-platform brand full of blog posts, social media content, podcast episodes, and even YouTube videos.  From wellness, to business tips, to life advice, Lauryn has it all covered. Talk about total lady boss! Lauryn’s goal is to stay as authentic as possible with her followers and show them that it’s okay to have a balance of health and fun.  Or as she calls it, “holding kale in one hand and champagne in the other.” Hilarious! Having this balance between healthy living and doing whatever the F you want is really important, especially in our age of social media. Lauryn has no shame in sharing her experience getting plastic surgery, while still sharing the message of health and self-love. We need to be more accepting of those choosing to enhance their appearance. There is no shame in the botox game! Just remember not to compare yourself to others no matter your body type. You do you, and don’t care about what others think. This mantra has even helped Lauryn get through pushback she’s had online.  She is a self-proclaimed over-sharer (perfect influencer personality!), and totally accepts hat not everyone is going to be on board with her and her journey. #ANDSOITIS Not only does Lauryn stay true to her authentic self, she also wants her followers to be informed, which is why she brings incredible experts onto her podcast. (Seriously, listen to this episode with Khalil Rafati owner of Sun Life Organics) This brings the perfect mix between authenticity and relying on authoritative perspective to her audience. “You have to be your own guru.”  Lauryn always tells her audience to go out and do research on their own.  If you are unsure about something, gain knowledge and form your own opinion.  Don’t just blindly follow everyone else. This is what makes The Skinny Confidential’s brand so relatable and popular.  Authenticity is really important to followers nowadays.  We are stepping away from that perfectly curated feed, and leaning toward a more realistic image. We want the in-between scenes, not just the highlight reel, of an influencer’s life.  Sharing your struggles and being real is highly valued. Lauryn has helped pave the way, and has done so by sharing her story on her podcast.  A big part of her journey was handling her sister’s addictions and recovery. As a family member of an addict, she found it really difficult to relinquish control and allow growth to occur naturally. “It’s hard to watch someone you love and care about kill themselves in front of you and there’s nothing you can do about it.” The best thing you can do is stop trying to control your loved one’s situation, and allow them to see reality and the bottom for themselves.  Her family’s experience has given her a lot of empathy for family members of addicts, even for her own parents. Once her family broke that cycle of co-dependence, things started to look up. There are plenty of ways you can support a family member going through recovery.  One way is to join a support group yourself, so you can gain some perspective. You can join groups like Families United for Recovery, which was started by Alexis’ mom.  Or you can go to free groups hosted by recovery centers, like the weekly groups at Alo. Remember: recovery is not linear.  There will always be highs and many lows, so as long as you stay in tune with your loved one’s journey and come from a place of love and respect, healing will take place. Speaking of love, there is an aspect of love that tends to go unnoticed for many women, especially moms.  And that is self-love! We need to find ways to wind down after a hard day, that doesn’t necessarily involve opening a bottle of wine. Alexis explains a few ways she winds down, this includes spending time with her daughters, long showers, body scrubs, essential oils, and acknowledging her feelings, instead of suppressing them. Learning to talk yourself in a way that is nourishing can be more beneficial than you think. Lauryn loves to practice grounding/earthing, whether that is sticking your toes in the sand at the beach, or walking barefoot on the grass. Getting in touch with nature is a great way to unwind. From eucalyptus leaves to salt lamps, Lauryn is a wealth of information when it comes to self-care! And this is only a fraction of what you can find on her blog. Lastly, we can’t talk about self-care without addressing our love/hate relationship with social media.  It can be hard to disconnect, especially when you are trying to build a brand that requires a lot of content and engagement.  Just thinking about all we “should” be and do puts a weight on our shoulders, and leaves an open door for anxiety and depression to enter. As someone who produces lots of content each day, Lauryn knows that a healthy balance is important to keeping your sanity.  She tries to put more energy into creating content than consuming content. And when she does, she is careful about who and what she is looking at.  If we are feeding ourselves with negativity from certain accounts, we need to take a step back. Instead, we can start following people that make us do and feel better. Try limiting your scrolling time on Instagram and narrowing down the stories you watch to about 5 accounts, some of her favorite business accounts being Ed Mylett and Gary Vaynerchuk.  She also recently spoke to the author of The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck, and his biggest advice was becoming more disciplined about the type of content you are consuming online.   This way, if certain accounts are making you depressed, just unfollow. We’ve all been there and could use a good cleanse once in a while! Ultimately, learning to be your own guru, finding what works for you, and living as your authentic self is going to bring you joy.  If you want more info on how to reach these goals, check out Lauryn’s podcast, The Skinny Confidential, and stay tuned for a special round table episode she has in store!   #ANDSOITIS If you or someone you love needs help, visit Alo House Recovery.

In this episode, I'll be speaking to Cephus ("Uncle Bobby") Johnson -- the uncle of Oscar Grant, who was shot and killed by a transit officer in Oakland in 2009 -- as well as Nissa Tzun of Families United 4 Justice. We'll discuss the ways in which families are affected by police violence, but so often do without the support and services of the community when their loved ones are killed. The sympathy that so often attaches to the victims of criminal violence is rarely as forthcoming for those victimized by law enforcement. What do these families need, and need for us to know? And how can we elevate their voices in the larger discussion about reforming policing in America? Disclaimer: My apologies for some of the sound glitches in this episode.
