First Horizon Bank, a regional bank based in Memphis, Tennessee, offers some eye-catching numbers on the bank's gender balance: Women make up 62 percent of its executive team, 54 percent of its top 1,200 corporate managers and 33 percent of its board of directors. To mark International Women's Day and Women's History Month, the latest episode of the ABA Banking Journal Podcast — presented by Alkami — features three top executives from First Horizon discussing how the bank built an inclusive culture. For Beth Ardoin, chief communications officer, it's less about focusing on women per se and more focusing on “how do we build the organization around exceptional talent, no matter who you are, where you came from?” Hope Dmuchowski, First Horizon's CFO, adds that for “our top talent, whether they're female, male or diverse, we're making sure they have lots of opportunities for lots of people that see how talented they are.” Ardoin, Dmuchowski and Erin Pryor, chief marketing and experience officer, also discuss the role of sponsorship, allyship and executive leadership in creating a culture that allows women to showcase their excellent work. “Great work always speaks for itself,” says Pryor. “How do you take those who are doing great work and helping to lift them up and to lift the women who are doing great work in the organization and amplify them?” Resources: Access women in banking resources and training from ABA. Connect with Erin Pryor Key takeaways- First Horizon Bank uses AI to increase personalisation and deliver more relevant messaging to customers. - AI is being implemented cautiously in the financial services domain and is primarily used to enhance existing marketing and customer experiences rather than replace human interactions. - AI helps analyse customer data and behaviours to provide predictive insights and recommend the next best actions. - Privacy and security are top priorities when using customer data and AI due to the sensitive nature of financial information. - AI can enhance fraud protection by detecting abnormal spending patterns or potential fraudulent activities. - The relationship between customers and their bankers remains central, with AI aimed at providing bankers insights to serve customers' individual needs and goals better. - Erin sees potential for AI to increase personalisation at scale while maintaining trust through responsible data practices and respecting customers' preferences around invasive marketing. Quotes"And so we're looking at it more to enhance what we do, like marketing. Marketing can be used in any industry, but banking specifically is highly regulated. The privacy of our clients is critical, the trust is super important." Erin highlights how regulation impacts AI adoption in banking due to the importance of privacy and trust. JP MacFadyen, Executive Director of Moncus Park since August 2021, joins Discover Lafayette to discuss the progress made during 2022 to open the park's long-awaited amenities. Previous to serving as ED, JP served the park as Operations Director for two years overseeing construction and developing processes and procedures for daily operations. JP is a native of Pittsburgh, PA, and has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA with a concentration in Operations from the University of Houston. After graduation from Notre Dame, he stumbled across a job opening at Rockwell International. He ended up being hired to work as a space shuttle flight operations specialist as Missions Operations Director at Johnson Space Center in Houston. He looks back and says in March of the year he was interviewed, "It was the best time of year visiting Houston coming down from Notre Dame. The weather was warm and wonderful." And there he landed! His specialty was onboard propulsion, which meant de-orbiting rockets and the thruster jets that changed the altitude of the space shuttles once they were in orbit. At that time, everything prior to computers was still worked out on paper and his first job was the configuration of checklists for safety procedures. JP met his wife, Michelle, in Houston while they worked together at NASA. She was an electrical engineer, a Eunice native and a graduate of UL - Lafayette. JP MacFadyen: "I always say, when you marry a Cajun, it's not a question of if, but when that you'll move back home." In 2005, he moved to Lafayette with his wife Michelle and their four children. The family then opened Great Harvest Bread Co., the first green-certified restaurant in the state of Louisiana. They sold their interest in Great Harvest Bread Co. in 2018 and JP worked as a small business consultant before he joined Moncus Park in 2019 as operations director. He has served as Executive Director since August 2021. We are thrilled to welcome JP to update us on the many improvements that have been added over the past year in 2022. With the support of major donors, community support, and quality staff, Moncus Park has truly become an outdoor paradise in the heart of Lafayette. More than 230,000 visitors have been to the park since January 1, 2022! The wood from the original barn at the UL Horse Farm was saved and used for the construction of the treehouse. JP emphasized the importance of the leadership of the Co-Chair of Moncus Park's Board of Directors, Lenny Lemoine, who encouraged the board to go ahead and open up the park to the public early in 2022, even though the construction was not yet complete. Without that leadership, many of the park's great community events would not have occurred this year. Discover Lafayette sends kudos to JP MacFadyen, Lenny Lemoine, and the entire board of Moncus Park for the gift you have given our community! Lafayette natives have played a large role in the unique attractions at Moncus. Park. The designer of the water feature which evokes the unique character of our region, Jim Garland, is a UL-Lafayette grad who also designed the unique water feature at the Hilliard Art Museum. Jim's early works included the design of the water features at the Bellagio casino in Las Vegas. JP and the team at Moncus have taken great strides to preserve cherished bits of the original Horse Farm. The original wood of the farm is incorporated into the Savoy Family treehouse which opened this year. It offers easy access for children of all ages to enjoy. The treehouse, designed by world-renowned designer Pete Nelson, is nestled within a Live Oak in the new Louisiana-swamped-themed play area. Moncus Park's Amphitheater seats 3000 plus people and was underwritten by First Horizon Bank. People always ask, "who owns the park, how was it purchased, and how is it maintained?" Moncus Park is a public/private park conservancy that operates in a ma...

Erin has 20 years of experience under her belt in the finance, banking, and media industries. Her specialties include brand marketing, digital marketing and innovation, and social media marketing. In this episode, Erin shares how building connected experiences for customers through data is critical to the banking ecosystem. She also dives into client onboarding and the generation that, surprisingly, wants to visit their local bank branch.-------------------Key Takeaways:It's critical that marketing teams are aligned with business and sales team to create a connected customer experienceThere is always an opportunity to learn from your customer based on behaviors and demographics to segment the customer journey.Pay attention to the qualitative data, it might producing surprising insights-------------------“With banking, you've got so much data. We have more data on our customers and clients than any other industry because we have the behavioral data from how you spend your money, how you're saving your money, where are you buying your homes, those types of things. And being able to rely stitch together a profile to know the client better and to be able to better serve them is going to be critical. So, the CDP with bringing together the zero, first, second, third party data and creating those profiles to then feed through into your CRM systems and into the marketing engine, really, I think puts you ahead of the game. Data is what everybody wants and really what makes the world go round today, especially from a marketer's standpoint. If you use the data right, you're really looking at how do you help the customer move forward and what are their life goals and how do you better lead them or encourage them to what's next." - Erin Pryor-------------------Episode Timestamps:*(02:44) - Erin's role at First Horizon Bank and her background*(06:04) - Comparisons between Erin's journalism and banking experiences*(08:37) - Top trends Erin is seeing in banking today *(12:24) - How data is impacting the customer journey experience at First Horizon*(18:06) - How Erin defines marketing vs. customer experience*(24:45) - How segmentation impacts the client journey *(30:22) - An example of another company doing it right with the customer journey (hint: it's Away)*(33:21) - Ending advice: surround yourself with a smart team of people-------------------Links:Connect with Erin on LinkedInConnect with Kailey on LinkedInVisit First Horizon's websiteLearn more about Caspian Studios
