As a young girl growing up in Kentucky, Constance Grayson was drawn to and influenced by traditional handcrafts. She learned traditional quilting techniques from her Appalachian aunts and was fascinated, even as a young child, with the interplay of color, form and texture. Although she no longer utilizes the traditional techniques she learned as a child, she is still fascinated with the process of creating something from bits and pieces of the almost nothings that she comes across. Most of her work utilizes techniques of collage to create a new whole from these bits and pieces. Her work results from the bringing together of handmade paper, commercial paper, and found objects with additions of paint and ink.Constance's interest has always been in color, form and texture and the ways in which those three elements interact with one another. She does not strive to have her finished work resemble any object or person in a realistic way. Instead, she wants to see whether she can successfully create energy and mood through the colors, forms and textures she uses in the piece. Her work has been displayed in U.S. galleries, museums and exhibits in Kentucky, Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York, including academic institutions in New York (St. John's University), Arkansas (Crittenden County Community College) and Tennessee (Christian Brothers University). She has participated in international solo and invitational exhibits in Fabriano, Gubbio, Milan and Foligno, Italy as well as Spa, Belgium. One of her fabric collages was the cover image for, as well as the subject of an article in, the August/September 2014 edition of Quilting Arts magazine. Her art has also been featured in the May/June 2015 edition of Kentucky Home and Gardens magazine and the March 2010 issue of ArteCulture, an Italian monthly magazine. Currently, her art is in the permanent collections of Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee; the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky; Christ Church Cathedral in Lexington, Kentucky; LeBonheur Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee and the Jessamine County Public Library, Nicholasville, Kentucky as well as in numerous private collections.PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION - New Editions Gallery until mid July 2024This is an interpretive art exhibition based on Modest Mussorgsky's piano suite Pictures at an Exhibition. Listening to each of the 10 movements and the recurring and varied Promenade theme, Constance created 15 energetic abstracts depicting her reaction to Mussorgsky's virtuoso masterpiece.

Human resources can be the most complicated and least fun part of a leader's job, and it's even more difficult when you have to manage a messy employee—or a bunch of them! Messy employees may not have malicious intent, but they can cause all sorts of problems within your organization. Manipulation, incompetence, insubordination, poor people skills, negative worldviews, and other traits are messy enough, but sometimes leaders make the mess even bigger by not addressing the problems right in front of them. In this episode, we talk with Dr. Bev Vitali of Christian Brothers University and Cassandra Webster of Memphis Challenge about how to effectively manage “messy” employees.

Karl Kapp, Deb Thomas, and Kevin Thorn are heavy hitters in our industry and specifically in learning game design. More specifically they are skilled at teaching others how to design games for learning. And that's why they started their event Stepaway.design. The pandemic shutdown of 2020 forced event producers to pivot towards virtual events and so they did the same. At the beginning of 2021 they ran their first virtual event and the attendee created games have been completed and they're ready for show'n'tell. We're excited to have them join us to talk about the game design process as well as show us the results of that process. Go ahead and Stepaway from what you're doing and join us for this fantastic episode of IDIODC. My guest on this episode of Nobody’s Safe w/Brady Laber is Dustin Maguire. Dustin was the leading scorer for the NKU Norse on its 2009 GLVC Conference Tournament championship team and is now an attorney that has become the foremost authority on the Name, Image and Likeness movement for college athletes. Dustin transferred into NKU after two seasons at St. Louis University. After a coaching change he was told that his scholarship would not be renewed and he was forced transfer out of the program. He lands at Division-II Northern Kentucky University which is a program that embraced welcoming Division-I transfers looking for a new opportunity. The 2008-09 season gets off to an exciting start as NKU opens a brand new state-of-the-art on-campus arena with an exhibition game against the University of Louisville Cardinals. Dustin was on fire leading all scorers with 33 points, hitting nine 3-point shots in the process. NKU’s team that year was loaded with a great mix of transfers and veteran players within the program. The team was nationally ranked all season and win a share of the GLVC Eastern Division. The Norse travel to Southern Indiana for the GLVC Conference Tournament. NKU ends up winning the tournament earning head coach Dave Bezold his 100th career win in the championship game victory. Dustin has a great season leading the team in scoring and earning 2nd-team All-GLVC honors. He had a lot of momentum going into the next season but a back injury suffered during the conference tournament slowed him down. Despite the injury Dustin was voted a preseason All-American. He looks back fondly on a game against Christian Brothers University where he hits a game winning shot before the buzzer. Unfortunately, the back injury forces him to shut it down and his season ends prematurely. He would go through two back surgeries to help fix his bulging disks but a different medical condition turns out to be more serious. While recovering from surgery, he is diagnosed with testicular cancer. After surgery for the original cancer diagnosis, Dustin is ready to complete his comeback. Unfortunately, he gets word that the cancer has moved to his lymph nodes. After successful treatment Dustin is deemed cancer free in 2010. With his playing career now finished, Dustin pursues his law degree at NKU’s Chase School of Law. Norse head coach Dave Bezold puts Dustin on scholarship as a student assistant coach while he is studying for his degree. He was on the coaching staff during NKU’s transition into Division-I. Ultimately, Dustin earns his law degree and passes the bar exam deciding to open his own law practice near his hometown of Edwardsville, Illinois. His practice is based in family law but he has always had a passion for athletes rights. This comes from his personal experiences as a player that was forced to transfer and as a player that went through injuries during his playing career. The Ed O’Bannon lawsuit was also very instrumental in Dustin’s path becasue his name, image and likeness was used in the EA Sports video game depicting him during his time at St. Louis University. We talk about a host of subjects such a name, image and likeness but also the transfer portal and expanding the rights for the college athlete. Dustin has become the foremost authority on NIL and has created and website as a resource to help college athletes in this subject. Go to nameimagelikeness.com (https://nameimagelikeness.com) for more information and how to contact Dustin if you have more questions or would like to contact him for further questions or possible representation. Also, if you need at family law attorney in the Edwardsville, Illinois area Dustin’s practice is called The Center of Family Law and you can get more information at edwardsvillefamilylaw.com (http://www.edwardsvillefamilylaw.com). Welcome to another Drink'n'Draw with Kevin Thorn on IDIODC. In past episodes we've kept the concepts very basic to help our instructional design colleagues begin to realize their own creative talents. But in this episode we're going to move into the digital world.Kevin is going to teach us how to create our own eLearning scenario characters from digital versions of the classic figure model. He'll share some of the tools that currently exist, but then we'll dive in and create our own character using a couple different methods. These are tips and tricks for quickly creating your own characters for your eLearning courses. Of course you can still simply settle for buying the same character libraries that everyone else buys. But what fun is that? These methods will help you create the perfect character for that perfect branching learning scenario. The next time you're building a scenario or simulation and can't find that perfect character/avatar, you'll be armed with the knowledge to create your own.Join us and let's Drink'n'Draw together!Kevin is an award-winning eLearning designer & developer, consultant, and owner of NuggetHead Studioz, LLC., a boutique custom design and development studio specializing in online learning experiences. After retiring from the US Army, Kevin pursued a career in corporate IT and Training & Development. My guest on this episode of Nobody’s Safe w/Brady Laber is Thomas More University head men’s basketball coach Justin Ray. Justin Ray is from the Westside of Cincinnati and we begin the episode going into pretty good detail about his love and experiences growing up over there. Grade school sports in that predominately Roman Catholic community is very serious and Justin looks back glowingly on his youth career. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes School and played football and basketball for the Tigers. We talked about his 8th grade football coach Ozzy Bowns who just recently retired from coaching after more than 40 seasons. Despite his ties to Our Lady of Lourdes, Justin’s wife is a proud member of Our Lady of Visitation. In a classic Westside situation he explains that he will let their kids go through the Visitation system but will not wear any of the spirit wear in order not completely break ranks from Lourdes. However, Justin did break ranks when it came to attending high school when he decided not to go to Elder. He wanted basketball to be his future and he played on the grass roots level for Oak Hills head coach Mike Price. Justin explains how Coach Price is a mentor to him even to this day. Justin would go on to be a Hall of Fame athlete at Oak Hills as both a star football and basketball player for the Highlanders. After high school, Justin played his college basketball career in Memphis, Tennessee at Christian Brothers University. Head coach Mike Nienaber had ties to the Westside and many different Cincinnati area players made the trek to play for the Buccaneers. After his playing career, Justin briefly worked in the private sector but quickly realized that was not the life for him so he returned to be a graduate assistant at Christian Brothers. He felt like he wanted to pursue a career in coaching on the Division-I level. He landed a spot on the staff at Wright State University where he was an unpaid graduate assistant for two seasons under both Brad Brownell and Billy Donlan. Justin earned his first full-time assistant coaching jobs close to his home at Mount St. Joseph University. He was hired by newly hired head coach Toby Carrigan and the two of them helped turn that program around. After a couple a rough seasons in the beginning the Lions would go to win its first conference championship and make the first NCAA tournament appearance in program history. In 2018, Ray was hired as the head coach at Thomas More University. This was at a time when the athletic department was transitioning from NCAA Division-III into NAIA. The victory that put the Saints on the map was a win over the #1 team in the nation and Mid South Conference opponent Georgetown Tigers. Justin talks about being influenced by the other coaches at Thomas More including head women’s basketball coach Jeff Hans and athletic director Terry Connor. In this month's segment we will help instructional designers improve their craft by SEEING their projects differently. By thinking visually about the content you are creating you become a better instructional designer. Kevin Thorn shows us his process for breaking down images and objects into a combination of simple shapes. And then building your own objects and visuals that support your content by simply reversing the process. It all starts with simple shapes. And even if you think you can't draw, Kevin will help you change your mind and give you the confidence to be the visual thinker your projects need you to be. Welcome to another edition of IDIODC Drink'n'Draw-ing with Kevin Thorn, we'll be talking about the usage and importance of icons as graphic elements in your instructional designs. (Not sure what Drink'n'Draw is? Catch up on our last Drink'n'Draw episode with Kevin Thorn here on Youtube: https://youtu.be/2AO-ov8QESY ) With a favourite returning guest Kevin Thorn in the house, he'll be showing us how to start with a sketch and build your own icon sets. We'll be looking to your, the chat room audience, for inspiration. You will all vote on an idea. Kevin will show us how to sketch it, snap a photo of it, import it into Illustrator and convert it to an icon. But even if you're not a graphic designer, you can still benefit from understanding this design process. You may not become the world's greatest icon creator, but in a pinch you could be the person that saves a project from doom because you had this little skill. And there is a psychology to icons as well that we will discuss along with the importance of understanding cultural norms and Accessibility guidelines. So even if you don't do the art work, you'll need to have a solid understanding of the nuance of icons and the instructional power they wield. Welcome to our second episode of the new year! Grab your thinking cap, a cup of coffee or tea (or whatever your drink of choice may be), and get ready for an insightful session with Kevin, Brent and Chris! On this episode Shelby County Board of Commissioners Chairman, Mark Billingsley discusses: Importance of higher education with Jack Shannon, President of Christian Brothers University History of Christian Brothers University and what's in store for the future Importance of Christian Brothers University to the city of Memphis
Some of the greatest ideas, inventions, and innovations started as sketches. And the biggest mistake we often make is jumping into our software to start developing. But for more successful outcomes, we should all be starting with paper and pen. And if you’re one of those people that thinks “…but I can’t draw”, then this IDIODC is perfect for you. The amazing instructional illustrator Kevin Thorn joins Chris and Brent to talk about sketching in the design process. He’ll be doing some live sketching on his iPad and walking us through the basics and how it applies to designing all kinds of learning experiences. Kevin’s latest project is helping professionals increase their creativity and innovation by combining the creative process of illustration and game thinking. You don’t need to be a professional artist to practice and successfully sketch your ideas. And game thinking isn’t just about creating fun card games and board games. It’s about designing purposeful learning experiences that may or may not have game elements included. Find out more about how you can leverage simple sketches to improve your instructional design skills on the next IDIODC. In episode 48 of Tigers in 20, lead writer and host Christian Fowler and GoTigers247 founder Brooks Hansen discuss the latest in Memphis Tigers basketball and football. The duo begins by discussing Memphis' 47-17 victory over Tulane on Saturday night. Following the Green Wave's opening possession, the Tigers dominated the remainder of the game, and Fowler and Hansen break down why. Memphis quarterback Brady White threw for 358 yards and five touchdowns, and Fowler and Hansen give their opinion on his big performance. Redshirt freshman running back Kenny Gainwell became the first player since 1997 to have 200-plus receiving yards and 100-plus rushing yards, and the GoTigers247 crew explains how dynamic Gainwell makes the Tigers offense. Following the football discussion, Fowler and Hansen give their reactions from Memphis being ranked at No. 14 in the Associated Press Top 25 preseason poll. Memphis is currently the only team in the American Athletic Conference ranked in the top 25, and it is the first time the Tigers have been ranked since 2013. Finally, Fowler and Hansen preview Memphis' first exhibition game, which is on Thursday night against Christian Brothers University. Thursday night will be the first time Memphis' entire 2019-2020 roster is on the floor after James Wiseman and Precious Achiuwa didn't play on the Bahamas trip. Learn more about your ad choices. She was given a taste of the speaking industry while interning in college for Nancy Lauterbach, a past speakers bureau owner. Upon graduation from college she began a successful career selling radio space and developing radio campaigns for CBS Radio in Kansas City; however, after a few years the excitement of the speaking industry drew her back-in. After working at a speakers bureau for several years and becoming one of the top sales executives, she took a break to spend time with her newborn baby Madison. The love she has for this industry struck again and after only a short months break, Brittanny combined forces with her past colleague and friend, Julie Homsey, to create The Speaker Exchange Agency, LLC. With a passion for the speakers in this industry, she looks forward to growing SEA and connecting her clients with the amazing speakers she has grown to know and love. She is known for her “bubbly” personality, quick response times, and willingness to go the extra mile for her clients. In this episode, Stephen, Tim, Richard, and Kelly discuss: How to define a speakers bureau. Various types of speakers bureau models, how they work, and why they are advantageous for both planners and speakers. Advantages for working with a bureau who is a member of IASB. How the speaker industry has changed over the last 10 years, and where it is going in the next 10 years. Key Takeaways: Speakers bureaus work a lot like sports agencies, managing the logics and details for you. Have a feel for the group for whom you are looking for a speaker – that needs to be formulated up front. The internet is not the best place to start your search for a speaker – working with an IASB bureau brings credibility and ease to booking your speaker. As a speaker, get the experience – do your 10,000 – that’s how you’re going to get noticed. "For a meeting planner, I would advise reaching out to a bureau. Not only to save your time, but also, this is one small part of what you do. The goal is to make it as easy and seamless as possible, because when a meeting planner puts up a speaker for an event, it’s their reputation on the line within their own company. And our job is to make them look like the hero." — Kelly Eger Connect with Stephen Kirkpatrick & Richard Schelp at Executive Speakers Bureau: Twitter: @ExecSpeakers Facebook: Executive Speakers Bureau Website: ExecutiveSpeakers.com YouTube: Executive Speakers Bureau: Book Keynote Speakers LinkedIn: Executive Speakers Bureau Connect with Kelly Eger at The Harry Walker Agency: Twitter: @hwaspeakers Facebook: The Harry Walker Agency Website: HarryWalker.com YouTube: HWASpeakersBureau LinkedIn: The Harry Walker Agency Connect with Tim Mathy at SpeakInc.: Twitter: @speakinc Facebook: Speak Inc. Dr. Stan Eisen, Professor of Biology and Director of Pre-Professional Health Programs at Christian Brothers University, joined the Enrollment Growth University podcast to talk about his creative alternative to a traditional final exam, and the benefits of such experiential learning opportunities.
Shane Fero’s legendary avian forms in hot glass have been sought after and cherished by collectors worldwide for nearly five decades. On the wings of his ever-inquisitive mind and an imagination fueled by nature, anthropology, astrology, and Surrealism, Fero’s work soars above and beyond its natural form, relying upon humor and thought provoking elements to attract and hold the attention of viewers. If there has been criticism of Fero’s work it’s that bird imagery makes no statement, has no narrative. Not so to its creator. “Some beautiful and spiritual birds have always held a deeper connotation throughout history. This can only be understood by paying attention to them and contemplating both their place in the world and our affect on that.” In fact, Fero’s focus on bird imagery has sharpened in the last 16 years with his blown bird series based on German flameworking techniques. Though these processes were learned as a young apprentice, the artist brings them into contemporary context in his sculptures, vessel forms, and mixed media pieces. This quote comes to us in rich and new ways as we journey through Advent, the days leading up to the Feast of the Nativity - Christmas. Days in which we hear prophets warn, coax, and encourage. Days in which - at least in the northern hemisphere - hours of darkness outweigh hours of light. And yet, we gather on nights like this one because somewhere deep in our bones we’ve been convinced that new possibilities lurk just beneath the surface. Join Dr. Emily Holmes, theologian and professor at Christian Brothers University, as she walks us through what these possibilities meant for medieval Christian women.
