Wendy Lund isn't just a powerhouse in healthcare marketing — she's also a longtime family friend, thanks to her working alongside my sister Lisa years ago -- also in healthcare marketing -- then becoming neighbors and "besties." As a result, I also know Wendy is a longtime advocate for women's health, and is as passionate about promoting good information as she is about, well, her dog, Yogi! Yogi And that is one cute dog: spoiler alert in case you miss the video. As Chief Client Officer of Health@WPP, former CEO of GCI Health, and former Chief Communications Officer at Organon, Wendy has been a force in transforming how we talk about — and invest in — women's healthcare. In May 2025 she's being honored with the Pinnacle Award by MM+M for her leadership and impact. The Imperative for Information and Innovation around Women's Health - Health@WPP at SXSW In yet another heartfelt, informative, and often funny conversation apropos Women's History Month, Wendy explains why Health@WPP believes wise innovation, factual and frequent information around women's healthcare is an imperative. Those are the pillars driving that progress — and why that's not just good for society, but great for business.
The expansion of home- and community-based services has been an important milestone in the tenure of Margaret McDonald, associate vice president for the Center for Home Care Policy and Research at VNS Health. More work needs to be done to enforce the Omstead decision, a landmark case that found that people with disabilities have a right to receive supports in the community under certain conditions, said McDonald, one of this year's McKnight's Pinnacle Award winners. On the week of the 2025 Pinnacle Awards event, McDonald talked to McKnight's Home Care for a Newsmakers podcast about HCBS and her research. Notes: In her role at VNS Health, Margaret McDonald works on conducting investigations to improve home- and community-based services (HCBS) and oversees the administrative functions of the Center for Home Care Policy and Research. Some of the center's current research focuses on speech recognition to find out if audio recordings can be translated to help reduce the burden of caregiver documentation and explore whether the data collected can identify people who have early-onset of cognitive impairment. The rebalancing of long-term services and supports to HCBS and away from institutions means HCBS has to staff properly, she said. It also means HCBS needs to implement evidence-based practices of care in the home. Physician and nurse practitioner oversight may limit the move toward advanced services, such as hospital-at-home, into the home, she said. The federal government's move to cut scientific research may affect the center's work. But she is hoping that since her research informs clinical practice and healthcare policy including developing strategies to reduce rehospitalizations and delay nursing home admissions that the center will continue to receive support for her work. Drager is a leading manufacturer for medical and safety technology products, employing more than 15,000 people worldwide. The company generates revenues of around 2.8 billion Euros, 55% of it in foreign currencies. Drager's portfolio of foreign currencies requires reliable data processing in a highly automated, cost-effective and flexible manner. Until the end of 2019, FX exposures were computed in a highly manual and time-consuming, spreadsheet-based process. To improve data availability and reliability, Drager automated data processing and the calculation of exposures. Additionally, Drager automated the exposure planning process and created a cost-efficient hedging portfolio. The project was so successful that Drager is one of the finalists for the AFP 2020 Pinnacle Award. In this episode of AFP Conversations, Frank Freitag, Controller of FX Risk Management for Drager, discusses his company's groundbreaking solution. This year the treasury and finance community gets to select the winner of the Pinnacle Awards, sponsored by MUFG. Our three finalists will be voted on and one Grand Prize Winner will be selected. That Grand Prize Winner will be announced during the AFP 2020 Virtual Experience. By now, we all know about Peloton. It is the largest interactive fitness platform in the world, with a loyal community of more than 2 million members. Maybe you're a member yourself. But what you might not realize is how quickly Peloton exploded onto the fitness scene. And because of its meteoric rise, Peloton initially lacked a formalized treasury operation. In this episode of AFP Conversations, we speak with Dana Laidhold, treasurer for Peloton. She discusses how she joined Peloton in 2018, in the midst of its transformation from a small fitness technology company to a global phenomenon. Laidhold was tasked with quickly building a treasury team that could support the Peloton's rapid growth. It was such a success that Peloton's treasury department is now a finalist for the AFP 2020 Pinnacle Award. The Pinnacle Awards, sponsored by MUFG, recognize excellence in treasury and finance. The grand prize will be announced at AFP 2020 in October. This year the treasury and finance community gets to select the winner of the Pinnacle Awards.
