This week we sat down with Beverly McChesney, Universal Channeler, Reiki Master, and psychic. She came to us through Spirit Mechanix and we've been so looking forward to speaking with her. We talked about so many fun things: Healing, gratitude, animal communication, and past lives. She also shares a manifestation secret! She also talked about how she knew she had abilities (poor Tammy), her time at a horse farm, and her husband the Dragon Meister! So, grab a chili dog, and join us where… The Activity Continues. Note: AP was unable to join us for this one. Content Warning: In this episode we mention pregnancy, miscarriage and abortion briefly. Also deaths of family pets (old age, and hit by vehicle) so trigger warning for those who need it. We didn't even swear much because we didn't tell Beverly head of time that she could. So we were pretty good for most of it. The Activity Continues is a paranormal podcast where soul friends, Amy, Megan, and AP chat about true crime, ghost stories, haunts, dreams, and other paranormal stuff including the TV show, The Dead Files. Our recaps are full of reoccurring jokes about reoccurring tropes. We also occasionally do interviews with people from the paranormal world, with the goal of learning from others. We think you'll really benefit from the things these people have to say. Sometimes we get a little scientific. We enjoy trying to come up with possible explanations for some of the things that the clients experience. But this by no means indicates that we do not believe the clients or are invalidating their experiences. We do believe. This episode was recorded on January 27, 2025, and released on February 27, 2025. Chapter Markers00:39:80 Intro & Hello!00:59:37 Content Warning00:02:21 Housekeeping00:03:30 Amy falls on her sword and catches you up00:05:01 Horse Farm and Animal Communication00:18:06 Healing Techniques00:21:37 Manifestation Secrets00:25:26 Angels, Guides, and Guardians00:27:17 Life Contracts, Reincarnation, and Soul Families00:33:38 Thomas House00:36:10 First Spiritual Encounter and the way her gifts developed00:39:40 The Dragon Meister00:42:14 Past lives,00:44:03 Megan's little girl (TW: Miscarriage, abortion and souls)00:50:12 Nurses of Waverly00:53:14 Noah's Ark and Jimmy Hoffa00:57:04 Children's gratitude and past lives01:03:07 Why you don't need to know your Purpose01:04:06 Where to find Beverly online (Link below)1:05:21 The Amazing Dragon Meister story01:08:12 Megan had an “orb” Or bug, check the video version01:09:15 Wrap up and sign off Episode links:Beverly McChesney's Website: https://beverlymcchesney.com/Visit us at: https://www.theactivitycontinues.com/Leave us a voicemail at: https://www.theactivitycontinues.com/voicemail/ Engage!Our website, https://www.theactivitycontinues.com/ Leave us a Voicemail: https://www.theactivitycontinues.com/voicemail/Newsletter sign-up: http://eepurl.com/hWnBLLJoin us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theactivitycontinuesWe're on (almost) all the socials too BE OUR GUEST!Are you a The Dead Files client, or a paranormal/spiritual professional, and are interested in being interviewed on our show? Maxine talks about the welcoming people in Tacoma, Glen shares where the whiskey shop is located, what made him want to get into the business, and the Washington state's restrictions on selling alcohol. 16:12 – Glen explains why a bottle of whiskey would cost $60,000, how whiskey is a delicate balance between art and science, and Maxine talks about how they have something at every price point in the shop. She talks about the wonderful whiskey community in the area, Glen talks about the master classes they offer, and the key differences between American and International whiskey. 31:17 – Glen talks about the number of people investing in whiskey, the depreciation impact of opening the bottle, and the different ways people share exquisite whiskey. JP MacFadyen, Executive Director of Moncus Park since August 2021, joins Discover Lafayette to discuss the progress made during 2022 to open the park's long-awaited amenities. Previous to serving as ED, JP served the park as Operations Director for two years overseeing construction and developing processes and procedures for daily operations. JP is a native of Pittsburgh, PA, and has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA with a concentration in Operations from the University of Houston. After graduation from Notre Dame, he stumbled across a job opening at Rockwell International. He ended up being hired to work as a space shuttle flight operations specialist as Missions Operations Director at Johnson Space Center in Houston. He looks back and says in March of the year he was interviewed, "It was the best time of year visiting Houston coming down from Notre Dame. The weather was warm and wonderful." And there he landed! His specialty was onboard propulsion, which meant de-orbiting rockets and the thruster jets that changed the altitude of the space shuttles once they were in orbit. At that time, everything prior to computers was still worked out on paper and his first job was the configuration of checklists for safety procedures. JP met his wife, Michelle, in Houston while they worked together at NASA. She was an electrical engineer, a Eunice native and a graduate of UL - Lafayette. JP MacFadyen: "I always say, when you marry a Cajun, it's not a question of if, but when that you'll move back home." In 2005, he moved to Lafayette with his wife Michelle and their four children. The family then opened Great Harvest Bread Co., the first green-certified restaurant in the state of Louisiana. They sold their interest in Great Harvest Bread Co. in 2018 and JP worked as a small business consultant before he joined Moncus Park in 2019 as operations director. He has served as Executive Director since August 2021. We are thrilled to welcome JP to update us on the many improvements that have been added over the past year in 2022. With the support of major donors, community support, and quality staff, Moncus Park has truly become an outdoor paradise in the heart of Lafayette. More than 230,000 visitors have been to the park since January 1, 2022! The wood from the original barn at the UL Horse Farm was saved and used for the construction of the treehouse. JP emphasized the importance of the leadership of the Co-Chair of Moncus Park's Board of Directors, Lenny Lemoine, who encouraged the board to go ahead and open up the park to the public early in 2022, even though the construction was not yet complete. Without that leadership, many of the park's great community events would not have occurred this year. Discover Lafayette sends kudos to JP MacFadyen, Lenny Lemoine, and the entire board of Moncus Park for the gift you have given our community! Lafayette natives have played a large role in the unique attractions at Moncus. Park. The designer of the water feature which evokes the unique character of our region, Jim Garland, is a UL-Lafayette grad who also designed the unique water feature at the Hilliard Art Museum. Jim's early works included the design of the water features at the Bellagio casino in Las Vegas. JP and the team at Moncus have taken great strides to preserve cherished bits of the original Horse Farm. The original wood of the farm is incorporated into the Savoy Family treehouse which opened this year. It offers easy access for children of all ages to enjoy. The treehouse, designed by world-renowned designer Pete Nelson, is nestled within a Live Oak in the new Louisiana-swamped-themed play area. Moncus Park's Amphitheater seats 3000 plus people and was underwritten by First Horizon Bank. People always ask, "who owns the park, how was it purchased, and how is it maintained?" Moncus Park is a public/private park conservancy that operates in a ma...

Humorous and down-to-earth Author and DJ Cara Whitney "Fields of Grace: Sharing Faith From the Horse Farm" grew up on a cattle farm in Northern Wisconsin. After spending a decade as a radio personality in markets that included Las Vegas, she found herself in search of that simpler life everyone talks about. She soon discovered that there is no such thing as a simple life, but instead your best lived life is one that includes a relationship with Jesus Christ. Cara reflects, “I wasn't always a believer, but I got saved. My relationship with the Lord changed my life, and I want others to know that they can have that peace too. They are forgiven; they don't have to live in fear. I wrote things about my faith on social media and someone approached me about writing a book and incorporating horses.” Cara lives with her husband, Dan (“Larry the Cable Guy”) and two kids on a horse farm in Nebraska. Cara advises, “Marry a man who lives for Jesus. They're the best kind." Cara shares charming yet powerful stories about how ordinary people can share their faith in extraordinary ways. Cara explains, “We don't have saving power. We just make the introduction.” She passes on lessons from her amazing horses, cows and racally dogs such as how caring for baby calves teaches us the value of letting go and what a floppy eared dog can teach us about loving our neighbor. Cara laughs, “God has a sense of humor. We see it in all of the critters!”

Elizabeth Brooks, Executive Director of Moncus Park, joined Discover Lafayette to discuss construction underway at the park. Much has happened since our first interview with EB in 2017, and as their website, moncuspark.org/the-park/ says, the park is well on its way to becoming a world-class central park for all of Acadiana to enjoy! The park is slated to open to the public Thanksgiving 2021. Elizabeth, affectionately known as "EB," gained local renown in 2005 when she was a student at UL – Lafayette. She and her friend, Danica Adams (the last person to live on the horse farm), learned that the 100 acre UL Horse farm tract was threatened by a potential sale by the university to a commercial developer.  Unable to accept that this treasure in the middle of Lafayette could possibly ever become just another strip mall, the two launched a successful community-wide campaign to save the property; thousands of local residents became involved, aided by the rise of social media during that same time. After the horse farm was 'saved,' EB left Lafayette to earn graduate degrees in Community & Regional Planning as well as Urban Design earned from UT in Austin. She noted how she had never realized that urban planning was even a career option until she met Mike Hollier of LCG's Planning Department when she was working to save the horse farm space. EB's passion is in seeing a city crafted to maximize the ultimate quality of life and she said, "The impact of the built environment and infrastructure on people's quality of life and day-to-day experiences is something we should take more control over and strive to be world-class. It doesn't just happen." As an example she noted, "Some of the streetscapes we have built (here in Lafayette) are inhospitable." Elizabeth Brooks' passion is in seeing a city crafted to maximize the ultimate quality of life and she said, "The impact of the built environment and infrastructure on people's quality of life and day-to-day experiences is something we should take more control over and strive to be world-class. It doesn't just happen." It turns out that many other people value quality of life here too. EB spoke of the momentum that was gained during the Save the Horse Farm campaign. "We valued harnessing that same energy to create the master plan. We hired a firm to create the master plan that didn't have a preconceived notion of what the park should be, one that would listen to the people. People felt heard. It was empowering to be able to shape our community." The site of Moncus Park is long and narrow and is one of the old "long lots" granted once Lafayette was settled. It is very quiet once you enter, as little of the land fronts onto Johnston Street. While it made little sense to utilize the space for commercial development, it is a wonderful place for a park with its live oak trees and ravines; the master plan focuses on honoring the beautiful and natural features while enhancing the topography by adding a new four-acre lake and hilly areas. $60 million is the projected amount needed to be raised to fully realize the goal of making Moncus Park a world-class facility. A future site to host weddings, music, and community events, as well as a planned botanical garden, Louisiana-themed playgrounds and interactive splash pad, a Treehouse Masters treehouse, amphitheatre, Veterans Memorial, dog park, and promenade (the park's main walking and jogging trail offering soft surfaces kind to runners) all cost money. And except for the $6.8 million paid by the City of Lafayette to purchase the ground from UL-Lafayette, all is being funded via private donors. The late Jim Moncus was the first person EB called upon for financial support. She reminisced about his generosity, saying, "He looked over the list of naming rights, saw the top figure and said, 'I'd like to get involved.' It was a huge gift, a shot in the arm for fundraising efforts, and provided the minimum of what was needed to be...

As we wrap up 2020 talking about how we can improve our horses’ wellbeing by improving their environments, today’s discussion is a continuation of that theme with a focus on property design. This episode is proudly sponsored by Lucas Equine Equipment, makers of fine quality stall components and accessories.Historically, most horse farms were designed and built with human needs in mind, The horses’ needs weren’t necessarily ignored, but they were (and often still are) secondary in the design and planning phases of equestrian properties. But, as we build new farms and update existing ones, we have the chance to change that. We have the chance to create properties that allow our hoses to live within the human construct while still satisfying their basic needs; needs that, when met, create happier, healthier, and better performing athletes– in all disciplines and at all levels. This is the first in a series on designing horse farms for the 21st century. Our guest is award-winning Landscape Architect, Deborah Cerbone, who will walk us through some of the essential things to consider when first looking at building or renovating a horse farm. Louisiana shares the abbreviation “L.A” with the city of Los Angeles. Although that sometimes leads to some confusion on paper and online, in the real world there is very little overlap between the LA lifestyle in the desert west and the LA lifestyle in the humid South. For example, if Aileen Bennett sitting in for Christiaan Mader was to say “burritos” you'd say Los Angeles. If Aileen was to say “poboys” you'd pick Louisiana. So, how about “skateboarding?” Naturally you're going to say, Los Angeles. But you know this is a trick question, right? The answer is, Lafayette native, Daniel Barousse. Daniel is an artist. A woodworker. And a skateboarder. The combination of those three traits is a company called Barousse Works, in which Daniel makes works of art from recycled skateboards. How's The Market Doing? No, not the stock market. The other one. On South Johnston.  During the Covid crisis we've seen some changes around here. Some businesses we regraded as institutions, and others we always assumed were doing great, have closed for good. Although we all lose something when a local business closes, as consumers we manage to recover. We find another place to eat a poboy, drink a daiquiri, or buy whatever it was we used to get at what used to be our favorite place. But, during this pandemic we have come to realize there are some institutions that are simply irreplaceable. One of them is officially known as the Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market, in Moncus Park. If you're from Lafayette, you know it as The Farmer's Market at The Horse Farm. Every Saturday morning since June 2013, the Farmer's Market has been selling everything from fresh produce to popcorn. And offering experiences from Cajun music to face painting, 52 weeks a year. Some Saturdays it's bitterly cold. Some Saturdays it's raining. But every Saturday the Farmer's market is open. Or, it was. Until it wasn't. To catch up with what we're optimistically calling post-covid plans for the Farmer's Market, Alieen Bennett talks with Market Director, Mark Hernandez. If you didn't know this show was made in the Louisiana variant of LA, and you just heard us talking about a vibrant farmer's market and an artist who makes pieces of sculptural functionality out of recycled skateboards, you might well assume we were talking about the second largest city in America, rather than the 4th largest city in Louisiana. Elizabeth (“EB”) Brooks is well known in Lafayette for her service as Executive Director of Moncus Park, affectionately referred to by locals as “The Horse Farm.” In 2005, while a student at UL – Lafayette, EB learned that the 100-acre UL Horse farm property was threatened by commercial development.  She and her friends, especially fellow activist Danica Adams, launched a successful community-wide campaign to save the property as green space for future generations to enjoy. In early 2013, then-Mayor Joey Durel worked with volunteers to create the Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market at the "Horse Farm" and in June 2013, 45 vendors participated in the first Saturday morning market. Today, vast crowds enjoy their weekly Saturday visit to the Farmers Market which is held from 8 a.m. to Noon. In 2018, the initial ground-breaking occurred and Moncus Park is currently under construction creating lush walking and biking paths, gardens, pavilions, and lakes. On the evening of Wednesday, April 24, 2019, the park will open for viewing to allow guests to witness the transformation taking place. The entire vision for improvements to be built in Moncus Park is laid out in the Master Plan, which may be viewed here, and will be implemented in phases as funding becomes available. In this interview with Jan Swift taped in 2017, EB discusses her love of Lafayette, her hopes for the future, and the lasting gift the “Horse Farm” offers to Lafayette and Acadiana. In this episode I talk about relationships being a mirror and my adventures in leaving the Horse Farm in Ireland back in January – what happened and some clips of my private spoken journal from that time, getting cornered by my host, my experiences with horses blowing me off when I ask them to do something and how I overcame it. Plus, my process in choosing a kind and pleasurable learning situation over one I needed to endure and how relationships serve to show us where we are still needing to learn to love, giving us an opportunity to love ourselves and others more deeply. A Little About A{Live} Now I've found that when I share what's true in the moment, there is so much ALIVENESS and fullness in me. That's why I started the A{Live} Now mini-series, which is within the Embody Podcast. This is the second episode and I intend to share what's happening in my real life and in my inner world, what's truly full and alive now. What's alive now in me has often been what's filled the juicy stuff of life: themes, joys, or challenges that others may also be experiencing, a fear and other emotions that bring me to the edge of my fullest expression in the moment. As you listen, I will also share snippets of how you can support your own heart and soul, know yourself, be your fullest, or heal and love yourself.   Links, Article, and Resources All Show Notes for This Episode

One of the traditional instruments in Cajun music is the triangle. Although it couldn t be much more basic, its simple presence forms the foundation of many songs. There s another kind of fundamental triangle that distinguishes and connects three sides of Acadiana rural life, city life, and Cajun culture. This edition of Out to Lunch today s show looks at businesses dedicated to maintaining each of these 3 key elements, and keeping them in balance. The Bayou Vermilion District is committed to the preservation and enhancement of natural and cultural resources for residents of Lafayette Parish. The BVD provides boat, canoe, and kayak launches along the river, and maintains public parks. They also have a Living History Museum. A folklife park. And a restaurant. They have over 50,000 visitors a year. David Cheramie is CEO of the Bayou Vermilion District. Cities across the country in part inspired by New York City s Central Park have realized the importance of preserving greenspace for recreation and as a home for cultural events. Here in Lafayette, in 2012 a company called Lafayette Central Park Inc leased The Horse Farm 100 acres of green space on Johnston Street from the city and is in the process of converting what was once a playground for horses, into a playground for people. The company s Director of Administration and Capital Projects is E.B. Brooks. Brandon Broussard epitomizes all three sides of the Acadian triangle Brandon is a teacher at Acadiana High School, teaching traditional and modern skills of meat processing and agriculture, as well as an entrepreneur with a small business teaching Cajun dancing. This conversation is the heart of 21st Century Acadiana a conscious mix of culture, forward looking urbanism, environmentalism, and dancing Photos on this page are taken at Social by Gwendolyn Aucoin.
