Carla Gallo is an actor whose first major film role was in David Russell's feature SPANKING THE MONKEY. This breakout performance gained Carla an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, and the film won the Audience Award in Sundance. This caught the attention of filmmaker Judd Apatow who cast her as the female lead in the cult favorite UNDECLARED. Carla went on to work consistently with Apatow in such features as, THE 4O YEAR OLD VIRGIN, KNOCKED UP, SUPER BAD, FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL, FUNNY PEOPLE and GET HIM TO THE GREEK. Carla played dynamic roles in the iconic series, CARNIVALE, CALIFORNICATION and MAD MEN. Her other television credits include BURNING LOVE, 2 BROKE GIRLS, WORKAHOLICS, SNEAKY PETE, and recurring roles on BONES and MAYANS M.C. In both Universal's NEIGHBORS and NEIGHBORS 2, Carla gives scene stealing performances as Seth Rogen's and Rose Byrne's loveably unglued friend. Carla has completed work on two Netflix features, A FUTILE & STUPID GESTURE directed by David Wain, LITTLE EVIL directed by Eli Craig. Her other feature credits include, I LOVE YOU MAN, WE BOUGHT A ZOO, MOTHER AND CHILD, HAPPIEST SEASON and FOUR GOOD DAYS. Most recently, Carla will re-team with Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne as a lead in the Apple TV+ comedy series PLATONIC which is now out! WHO WILL WIN? Our invite must have been lost in the post. Again. Either way that won't stop us breaking down the Best Original Song category at the 2022 Academy Awards and declaring our true winner. With a Disney song, a Beyoncé song, a Bond song and, most importantly, a Diane Warren song; this year is stacked. The nominees are: "Down to Joy" from Belfast, "Dos Oruguitas" from Encanto, "Be Alive" from King Richard, "No Time To Die" from No Time to Die & "Somehow You Do" from Four Good Days. Ben argues the semantics of "original", Dietrich proposes a YouTube experiment and Alex does his angry guy at the Oscars impression. Please join actress Michael Hyatt who plays "Cissy Saint" on FX's Snowfall in The Locher Room on Wednesday, March 10, 2021. PST. Michael will be here to discuss Season Four of the hit FX series which debuts on February 24, 2021. As a fan of this show, I couldn't be more thrilled to have Michael join me for a conversation about her incredible career on stage and screen. Snowfall airs Wednesday evenings at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX and the next day via FX on hulu. Before Hyatt's work in film and television, she enjoyed memorable performances on stages throughout the country, most notably on Broadway in the critically acclaimed Ragtime. Hyatt's numerous television credits include The West Wing, The Wire, The Kill Point, True Detective, Ray Donovan and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Hyatt can be seen in the Rodrigo Garcia feature film Four Good Days opposite Glenn Close which premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January 2020. She currently can be seen in the HBO Max feature film The Little Things opposite Denzel Washington and Rami Malek and the HBO miniseries The Comey Rule as “Loretta Lynch” opposite Jeff Daniels and Holly Hunter. Michael's character Cissy raised Franklin (Damson Idris) primarily on her own. Partnering with her son on a real estate business, season four finds Cissy with new hopes for her family and their future as the world continues to change around them.In season four of Snowfall - It's January 1, 1985. Ronald Reagan has won his re-election campaign proclaiming it is “morning again in America,” but in South Central, Los Angeles, it feels more like the sun is getting low. The demand for crack cocaine is high, and while our crew of dealers led by Franklin Saint (Damson Idris) are benefiting greatly from the rising tide of addiction, they are also starting to become aware of the damage the drug is doing to the people and to the place they love. With the entire nation taking note, the LAPD is diverting serious money and resources to the “war on drugs.” Politicians' phones are ringing. Powerful people are concerned from the hallways of the White House to those of CIA headquarters where there are whispers that one of their own may be involved in this burgeoning epidemic. This season Franklin will be forced to emerge from his near-grave in order to try and regain control over his business and end the rising gang violence in the streets before it becomes an all-out war.
Wow, it's our 20th episode! Sorry this one is a bit of a downer. We would have planned some sort of party if we would have remembered. This week we discuss the frustrations of drugs and addiction with Four Good Days, and we talk about narcissists and how they're the woooooorrrrrrsssst in The Squid and the Whale. Plus, we talk about the mindless thriller, Escape Room, so if you want to shut off your brain and make fun of some people now's your time to shine! Maybe make sure the escape rooms you go to aren't invitational only by way of mail? And just....do a little more research, ok?

"These are important stories that should be seen, but audiences need more than scripts that are primarily acting exercises." Nell Minow of RogertEbert.com is a true professional in her distaste for awards chasing films like FOUR GOOD DAYS... but as amateurs talking into a tin can over a Zoom call we are free to get down into the mucky muck and not care much for Mila Kunis without teeth. Even if one of us did pay discount Tuesday prices for the privilege. Our guest on the other hand, Derek of The Grand Gesture and Your List, My Command podcasts paid full VOD rental price to essentially go to work again on a Saturday morning. He had as much fun as you will as we watch Glenn Close continue to not win awards in dull movies. Enjoy! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/yumu-review/message
You can always expect dynamic visuals and plenty of breakneck action from filmmaker Zach Snyder. This week we start by recapping our thoughts on the 2021 Oscars! We talk about the ceremony's format, the nominees we wished won, the winners we loved, and the heartfelt acceptance speeches that moved us. Next we discuss Rodrigo García's FOUR GOOD DAYS (22:47), a challenging mother/daughter drama about addiction, starring Glenn Close and Mila Kunis. After that, we review LIMBO (37:11), Ben Sharrock's poignant and compelling drama about a Syrian refugee stuck in rural Scotland while he awaits his asylum request. We wrap up with TOM CLANCY'S WITHOUT REMORSE (49:37), Stefano Sollima's disappointing action flick starring Michael B. Jordan. And in this week's Patreon exclusive audio, we review the winner of our hair poll: Paddy Breathnach's 2001 film BLOW DRY.
