Unpacking our past is not an easy task. It requires courage and strength. It's like opening a box that's been locked away for years. Inside, you might find things that are painful, things that you've tried to forget. But remember, it's okay to feel. It's okay to hurt. This is a part of the healing process. Recently (October 2022) the co-founders of Raising the Baa, Chris and Caroline, were in the French Alps. They were two of a team of 7 randomly mixed people all with one purpose: 'helping young people climb past anxiety' in a fund-raising challenge.Four teams each raising money for their chosen charity, the challenge was to go higher and further (and wetter it transpired!) than others within a specified time period to gain much coveted points. Reflecting on their experience Chris and Caroline learnt many valuable lessons about working as a team. A dose of their own medicine if you like! They shared their 7 lessons via a LinkedIn live audio event - a first for Raising the Baa! And the story of the challenge unfolded too. Do you know of a young person trying to combat anxiety or other mental health issues? It's not too late to show your support as our fundraising page is still open. All donations will naturally be very much appreciated by Inner Flame, a charity which only survives through donations and grants. The more we raise the more young people we can help manage their anxiety. What are your main team challenges and desires? Maybe we can help?Book in a 15-minute Exploratory Call now and let's see.
How do you know when it is the right time to lean in? This is such a great episode that we wanted to share it again! Since recording this Kat has progressed her career in so many incredible ways! Go check her out over on LinkedIn and connect with her right here >> https://www.linkedin.com/in/katwellum-kent/ #Takeaways Finding your own way of leadership really works How to start making those steps and the importance of building habits with self promotion How to notice if you are playing small through use of your own language The benefits of having an external coach How to showcase yourself rather than sell yourself On today's show we are thinking about how you know when it is the right time to lean in? And what I mean by that is starting to think differently about your career progression, how you stand apart and building a self promotion strategy that gets you the results you REALLY want. As a previous client of mine Kat and I were recently reviewing how far she has come by getting clear on what she wants and the impact that being more visible can have for her own ambitions and those around her. Kathryn is a shining example of a woman who has definitely leaned in to owning who she is and the results speak for themselves. Guest: Kathryn Wellum-Kent is an accountant and business advisor working for MHA Monahans, one of the leading professional services firms in the South West, after spending the first 16 years of her career working at Deloitte. She is passionate about working with start-up and scale-up companies that have big ambitions, and need support to achieve these, with particular focus on capturing & interpreting financial information needed for their business planning & decision making. Beyond that though, Kathryn has a strong vision of how the industry needs to change to better support its clients, its staff and the wider community and is using her current role and her network to drive change and challenge traditional thinking. This work was recognised through being named one of the top 50 women in accounting in 2021. She has also recently taken on the role of finance trustee at a charity based in Swindon called Inner Flame, which is working to support 16-25s not currently in education, employment or training who are experiencing barriers to independence or contributing to their community. “An important part of leadership is finding your way of doing things rather than trying to be something else” Kathryn “We have habits that don't often serve us and can be connected to staying small” Gemma “You've got habits and you don't even realise you are doing them” - Kathryn “I stopped cutting my legs off before I had even started” - Kathryn “I really wanted to work with someone who could work with me to help me understand some of the things that were holding me back and achieve what I wanted to in my career” - Kathryn “All the things that we have worked on together have helped me talk about myself in a very authentic and open way” - Kathryn “I'm not the kind of person who can sell; I don't want to feel like i'm selling myself, selling my company - I just want to show people about me and what I am doing and I feel like that should speak for itself” - Kathryn “You don't have to throw yourself in the deep end it's about building up these things gradually” - Gemma Get the White Paper ‘Visibility at Work: The Importance of Self Promotion for Women's Career Progression https://bit.ly/WP2020podcast Book a call with Gemma: http://bit.ly/CallGemmaPodcast Connect with your host Gemma Stow: Website: https://www.gemmastow.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/gemmastow/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/gemmastow Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nomorehidingco Connect with Kathryn: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kathrynwellum-kent/ Website: https://www.monahans.co.uk/
Mountains? Er, not specifically. Though they are the reason we took a week's break half-way through this A-Z series of Team Building. Raising the Baa co-founders Chris Farnsworth and Caroline Palmer, alongside a team of 5 entrepreneurial folk, clambered a marathon up and down mountains in the French Alps. Why? To raise much needed funds for Inner Flame, a charity close to our heart as you will be aware if you know the story behind Raising the Baa (our first episode of Sheep Dip). And many lessons were learned about teamwork along the way too - but we'll leave this for another episode and on our socials meanwhile too.Meanwhile this podcast series continues to reflect on themes cited by our clients in their reviewing sessions, following their experience of herding sheep - Raising the Baa style. Today's episode features topics beginning with the letter M. Mmmm, let's think...Each episode of our A-Z series of team building lasts around 10 minutes - just right for a (sheep)dip into each of the topics.Expect plenty of sheep/shepherd/dog references from Head Shepherd and Founder of Raising the Baa, Chris Farnsworth, in these short and lively conversations with Paul Warriner, our Lead Facilitator.Enjoy - and thank ewe for listening :-)----------------------------------------------------------FREE resource:Sheep, Shepherd or Dog - which one are ewe? We explore the deeper meaning of the Chanukah story, some of the symbolisms of Chanukah, and how it applies to our own life. We speak about how to look inward and discover inspiration within one's own heart rather than always relying on outside influences and experiences which may or may not be present when we need them. For this episode Robert Plant has chosen a song he recorded with Jimmy Page and Rainer Ptacek in 1997 entitled ‘Rude World'. Rainer was a hugely talented cult guitar hero with a unique blues folk style. This track features on a compilation to him called ‘The Inner Flame' which also included contributions from PJ Harvey, Madeleine Peyroux, Evan Dando and Emmylou Harris (which tells how great Rainer was). If you don't know his work yet, let Robert be the person to introduce you…
This week's guest is a long-standing friend of Raising the Baa, David Wreathall, who is founder and now Chair of Trustees at the youth charity Inner FlameAn episode of two distinct halves, we hear David's perspective on how the concept of team building with sheep was born and how the exercise developed over the next few years. An off the cuff idea evolved with groups of young people on a purely voluntary basis until, serendipitously, a totally unexpected opportunity arose. A tight deadline prompted massive action, energy levels soared and a sense of urgency prevailed - with a successful outcome for all.Fast forward to 2020 and in an entirely different and more challenging context, the pandemic prompted these reactions for Inner Flame again. And like the proverbial Phoenix the charity rose from the pre-Covid 'ashes' - when youth unemployment was high so demand and funding was low - to a rejuvenated, re-energised team with re-packaged and much sought after training programmes.David and Chris reflect on how the rollercoaster of emotions experienced through both these scenarios are reflected totally in the field when corporate teams are challenged to herd sheep on an away-day with Raising the Baa. It sometimes takes an external, possibly unexpected, stimulus to invigorate a team and galvanise it into action - and how exciting it is to hear about the results! So what four words (one for each leg of the sheep or dog of course) will David use to describe the most extraordinary team? We conclude our conversation with this question to each of our guests and as yet no two have been the same.If this episode has prompted any questions for David, Chris or Caroline, please go ahead and ask - either email caroline@raisingthebaa.com or leave it in your review!Enjoy - and thank ewe for listening :-)Free resources:Manage Anxiety: Your Way - an introduction to the self-help virtual course David mentioned, run by Inner Flame.Sheep, Shepherd or Dog - which one are ewe? My guest today is a dear friend of mine, Dr. Max Klau. We met nearly a decade ago at a songwriting class at Club Passim in Cambridge, MA, when Max was studying for his doctoral degree at Harvard Graduate School of Education. He's an author, coach, speaker, scholar, leadership development consultant, and a damn good songwriter. He recently published a book called Race and Social Change: A Quest, A Study, A Call to Action. We explore Max's journey to writing this important book. We also dive into his current work with the New Politics Leadership Academy, a nonprofit dedicated to recruiting and developing military veterans and alumni of national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps to seek political office. And what a time to enter politics! I was deeply inspired to learn more about how Max and his team help people who have devoted their lives to public service step into the political arena.Max draws on a wide range of scholarship in the realms of leadership and human flourishing, weaving them together with his own experiences and research. What we ultimately arrive at is the truth that how we show up from the inside actively shapes the world around us. Max calls this "the inner flame." If you care at all about what it is to show up for the world as your best self - about igniting and sustaining your own inner flame - then this conversation is for you. This work was recognised through being named one of the top 50 women in accounting in 2020. She has also recently taken on the role of finance trustee at a charity based in Swindon called Inner Flame, which is working to support 16-25s not currently in education, employment or training who are experiencing barriers to independence or contributing to their community. “An important part of leadership is finding your way of doing things rather than trying to be something else” Kathryn “We have habits that don't often serve us and can be connected to staying small” Gemma “You’ve got habits and you don’t even realise you are doing them” - Kathryn “I stopped cutting my legs off before I had even started” - Kathryn “I really wanted to work with someone who could work with me to help me understand some of the things that were holding me back and achieve what I wanted to in my career” - Kathryn “All the things that we have worked on together have helped me talk about myself in a very authentic and open way” - Kathryn “I’m not the kind of person who can sell; I don’t want to feel like i’m selling myself, selling my company - I just want to show people about me and what I am doing and I feel like that should speak for itself” - Kathryn “You don’t have to throw yourself in the deep end it’s about building up these things gradually” - Gemma Get the White Paper ‘Visibility at Work: The Importance of Self Promotion for Women’s Career Progression https://bit.ly/WP2020podcast Book a call with Gemma: http://bit.ly/CallGemmaPodcast More info about the 1-1 No More Hiding 12 month Coaching Programme https://bit.ly/NMH12Pod (Mentioned How Women Rise book by Sally Helgesen and Marshall Goldsmith) Connect with your host Gemma Stow: Website: https://www.gemmastow.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/gemmastow/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/gemmastow Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/iamgemmastow/ Connect with Kathryn: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kathrynwellum-kent/ Website: https://www.monahans.co.uk/ #nomorehiding #leadership #selfpromotion #femaleleaders #leadershipdevelopment
Leadership is not about titles and corporate ladders any longer. It's not a top down philosophy- it's an inside out one. True leadership is a genuine interest in influencing another's life in a positive way. And that ability to see the bigger picture, connect deeper, and make a difference is ultimately what reduces everyday stress and creates space for growth, success, stronger relationships, and joy. This dynamic session will help you find the purpose that underlies leadership. We all have a reason, a purpose, something bigger than ourselves that we are meant to do. Heather's job is to Ignite that Inner Flame, to help you find and use your purpose in a way that fulfills you, so you generate the energy and leadership to light the way for those around you. • Uncover your inner purpose • Release the fears and limits that could keep you from following it • Create your plan of action to move forward as a Purpose Driven Leader For the full version of this talk and 90+ other leadership talks brought to you by the world's most renowned Leadership Experts, get you free ticket via www.theoxygen4leadershipsummit.com

In this episode, I speak with Chef Kfir of RDV, an upscale French-inspired bistro with an Israeli twist to pay homage to Chef's roots. During lunch's prep time, Chef Kfir describes how his love of nature as a child transformed into his fascination with food and how to use seasonal ingredients to honor Mother Nature. He then explains how his travels to South America affirmed his vision of becoming a chef by working in all different types of kitchens. Eventually coming to New York City, to stage under Daniel Boulud, one of the top chefs, Chef Kfir established himself enough to embark on his own solo culinary journey. Listen to Chef Kfir himself explain how he manifested his vision for RDV by nurturing his inner flame for cooking and for bringing seasonal produce to the local community of Harlem. Check out www.willingtowander.com to see photos and to find out how to connect with RDV and Chef Kfir.

Remember when you were kid how you wanted to be a explorer, or an astronaut, or a pilot flying around the world? Then somewhere along the lines, you either forgot, or were told to stop dreaming and get serious, and you left the world of dreams and passions behind entering a pragrmatic life of compromise. If this sounds familiar, then do we have the show for you. Today we're interviewing Greg Levoy. Greg is the best-selling author of Vital Signs: The Nature and Nurture of Passion and Callings: Finding and Following An Authentic Life He is a former "behavioral specialist" writer for USA Today, and a regular blogger for Psychology Today. He's written for the NY Times magazine, Washington post, and Readers Digest among many others. Today we're going to talk about rediscovering who you are, and who you were meant to be. We'll look at where your energy's draining out, how to take stock, and where to put your focus. Most importantly, we'll help you change how you relate to the world so you can rekindle your inner flame. Balancing our tendency to want to stay indoors most of the time We must reconnect with what is wild in us! Our dreams Nature and the natural world around us Why we're constantly negotiating between passion and security There's the part that wants to take risks and make leaps and come alive There's the part of us that wants to be safe, and secure, and in control The Danger: In a tug-of-war security tends to win…passion tends to get back-burnered. Chronically can have detrimental effects to choose security over passion Observe how often make security choices over vitality choices Reclaim ourselves from the task-master that says safety and security above all else Why no running on the playground may be the most dangerous thing of all Why society is so fear averse – i.e. Warning Labels Do not iron clothes on body This superman costume does not allow you to fly Why we must give ourselves non-work modes of expression Make art, make music, listen to music, spend time in men's or women's groups, athletics, sports, using the body, something that involves not sitting at a desk in front of a computer, or not being indoors Remember our passions that have gone dormant How to Find your passion Ask yourself, what part of the book store do you go to first? Do as Hannah Papp, author of the Mystical Backpacker suggests Listen to Robert Greenway – father of Eco-pyschology. “Civilization is thousands of years old, but only 4 days deep” Why we can all benefit from a mortality meditation and learning about death in order to fully live Concept that death could be a source of death Death asks what matters to you, what's really important to you? Helps us make decision between passion and security Thomas Murton – “to make an important decision consult your death” Study: Almost everyone told less than 6 months to live were liberated in very profound ways! “My concern diagnosis was the best thing that ever happened to me” How learning about death can keep us from being trapped by life Vital Signs helps illuminate compromises Compromise and ignoring passions and nature may be the reason people have most heart-attacks at 9 AM on Monday mornings Must do what makes your heart sing Must reclaim your soul, spirit, energy, or mojo Other goals of the book Life is so rich and we settle for so little Jean Houston – author and mythologist and psychologist Says we need to live “larger than life” Help people to be profoundly present to the stuff of your life Most important question – Ask yourself what does my soul want today? This is where the work happens “Best way to make God laugh is to declare your plans” Progress happens in the “to do” list of life Deciding between the brake or accelerator, that's where the work is in the world. Everything in life becomes a mindfulness exercise Takeaway pieces of advice Begin to acknowledge where you lose energy and vitality Take an inventory of where your energy dribbles out Use the inventory so you can change your habits and your focus Try to surround yourself with people who shine Connect with people who are living out loud Be gentle with yourself Give yourself time Have self-compassion Don't beat yourself up because you don't live up to your potential Remember - stuff hitting the fan isn't bad, it's part of the path, not opposed to the path Inspiration | Motivation | Kindness | Spirituality | Compassion | Business | Career | Self-Help | NY Times | USA Today | Reader's Digest
Today we have a very short, yet powerful relaxing and rejuvenating inner flame or white light meditation. This is a favorite of mine for healing, and pulling myself up, if I'm feeling a bit down. It's hard not to finish with a quiet ear-to-ear grin. This meditation goes well with today's guest Gregg Levoy, who's teaching us all how to rediscover our passion, so we can lead happier, more fulfilled lives. Okay, maybe it's a bit of a stretch, but when you're energy's up from meditation, there's more chi or juice to go after your passion. And when you're going after your passion, you feel more enlightened to meditate as well. If you like this meditation, please do us a HUGE favor and rate and review our show. Ratings and reviews are the #1 way you can help support us, and help people find the show. So we send you a HUGE thank you in advance! To listen to Gregg's interview, or find more meditations by me, or by our guests, check out our Inspire Nation Show, or InspireNationShow.com. Okay, this is a very simple meditation. For meditation I recommend you lay down, with your arms by your sides, palms up. Now I want you to breathe in and out very gently through the nose. As you breathe deep, I want you to imagine a glowing white light in your belly. As you breathe in it begins to expand. As you breathe out, it stays the same size. This is a heavenly light, filled with love, capable of immense healing, and relaxation...
