Step into cinematic electronica with Polycarp boss Simon Ferdinand's latest creation, the 'Six Months' EP. Born from a journey spanning Sicily, Baltimore, and Zanzibar, this musical odyssey encapsulates the essence of his travels and experiences. Today, we're excited to premiere 'Broken,' the lead track from the EP. 'Broken' sets the stage with its enigmatic fusion of hazy, glitched-out jazz loops, expertly obscured and processed throughout. Ferdinand's masterful manipulation of loops and tapes ensures a constant element of surprise, never allowing for a moment of predictability. With a nod to the experimentalism and minimalism of Jan Jelinek's early 2000s work, 'Broken' creates a similar depth and complexity, showcasing a unique playfulness of sound manipulation. The 'Six Months' EP will debut on vinyl on March 22, followed by a digital release on May 9. https://soundcloud.com/simonferdinand https://soundcloud.com/polycarp-records https://www.instagram.com/simonferdinandmusic/ https://www.instagram.com/polycarprecords/ Follow us on social media: https://soundcloud.com/itsdelayed https://linktr.ee/delayed https://www.itsdelayed.com https://www.facebook.com/itsdelayed https://www.instagram.com/_____delayed https://www.youtube.com/@_____delayed

Emerging out of the jungle mists are the swirling sounds of Snad on the Tulum based imprint Kilometro4.5. The Berlin based artist has had prior releases on the likes of Kimochi Sound, Courtesy of Sound, Smallville and more through a variety of sounds. Our focus for today is of the ambient persuasion as label, and Snad state: Kilòmetro 4.5 takes you into danceable ambient sounds through a dreamy album produced by Snad. Loop DreamZz is an ethereal representation of nostalgic soundscapes. It wraps you in a strange yet familiar sense of paradise at twilight, be it before dawn or post-sunset. Faint birdsong, gentle waves, and the bittersweet tiredness when you're one of the last on the sandy dancefloor, yet perpetually craving to keep the dream looping. “I originally wrote Loop DreamZz in Berlin after my first visit to Papaya Playa Project. Fast forward to 2021, and Km4.5 asked me if I would be interested in writing an ambient-ish album. I was doing an exercise in writing an album a month, so I was naturally into the idea. The resulting album was written with my machines in the dark of the night over a week and a half in Malvern, Pennsylvania. I drew influence from Jan Jelinek, Gigi Masin, Kimochi Sound, Meitei, my friends, and my lush suburban environment.” - Snad Loop DreamZz and in turn Glimmer are coming out via Kilómetro 4.5 on July 22, 2022 Snad @snad www.instagram.com/snadmusic/ Kilómetro 4.5 @km4punto5 km4punto5.bandcamp.com/music www.facebook.com/km4punto5 www.itsdelayed.com www.instagram.com/_itsdelayed_ www.facebook.com/itsdelayed

Ok friends of the night, the second year in a row in an incredibly difficult and seemingly extremely unstable time is very soon coming to an end. And thus also one in which nightlife seems to be emotionally lost to us. So today, more than ever, it is important to hold on to every little spark of culture. After a short euphoria in the last few weeks when some clubs started to reopen their doors, they now have to close again, which doesn't make the situation any better. That's why I'm personally glad that so many are continuing on their way and tirelessly keeping the roots and the shoots of our musical culture alive, and I'm personally grateful to everyone for that. Only together can we continue to shape the future musically. And since we're on the subject of culture, let's move on to today's guest, although there are actually two of them again. On the one hand, Andy Vaz, whose unbelievably fantastic and deep sound forms the basis of today's guest DJ set, is supported by Andreas Pasternack, who also enhances the whole thing in a great way with his saxophone. For me, Andy is one of the great music makers in Germany. Now living in Cologne, he started his musical career in the nineties from Düsseldorf. Since '98 he has been personally responsible for several labels and all of them are characterised by deep and minimal techno and house sound. Starting with "Background Records" which released 50 releases between 98 and 2006, featuring a wide variety of great artists, including Akufen, Sutekh, Jan Jelinek, Terrence Dixon and many more. In '99 he founded the sub-label "A Touch of Class", which was known for deep house. From 2000 to 2002 came the short-lived sub-label "Deep Night Essentials" which was known more for minimal techno. And since 2007 he has been running "Yore Records" together with "Alessandro Vaccaro", which is still active today and focuses more on house music by artists such as Rick Wade, Chez Damier, Patrice Scott or Alton Miller. Since 2001 he has already toured 7 times in Japan and performed for the Goethe Institute in numerous Indian cities.  Andreas Pasternack is a jazz musician, entertainer, singer and composer. He has performed in Poland, Belgium, Japan and the USA. He creates his own weekly radio show on NDR 1 Radio MV. And so I feel really honoured that he is giving this ESOA podcast edition with Andy Vaz a cultural first class upgrade.     Ok, so I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Friends, this is ESOA Podcast 043 by Andy Vaz b2b Andreas Pasternack.  Enjoy listening to this edition. Thank you for your tireless interest on the ESOA Podcast format. ‘I have got energy, so … why can't I just keep in touch with the outside world?' Aziz Photo: Michael Green Even though Aziz is in detention, far away from both his home and from the country whose government is holding him, he's on his phone all day. He's sending messages to Michael, or he's on Facebook with friends and activists, or he's following the latest news in Australia. He's hyperconnected. But his connection to the outside world is complicated and, despite their constant communication, Michael and Aziz never really get to have a regular, real-time conversation. In this episode, Aziz observes his third Ramadan inside detention. Fasting during the day, he sends Michael messages late into the night. And, along with many of the men on Manus, the Australian federal election campaign raises Aziz's hopes. On election night, Aziz and his fellow detainees follow the news forensically to try to make sense of the result and what, if anything, it means for the future of the detention centre. Meanwhile, Michael investigates the possibility of travelling to Manus Island. Could they really meet face to face? Transcript A transcript of this episode is available here (Adobe PDF format). Stopping the boats. It's one of the most fraught topics in Australian politics, and most of the time it comes out in two soundbites: saving lives at sea, and securing our borders. Abdul Aziz Muhamat 'I was instructed to … select the children on the basis of how young they looked – because we wanted to send the message to people smuggling networks that even the youngest children were eligible for transfer to the island.' Greg Lake, former Director of Offshore Processing in the Department of Immigration In this episode, Aziz tells Michael what it actually feels like to make that journey, and why he made the decision to get on a boat bound for Australia. What was going through his mind? Did he know what he was getting himself into before he stepped onboard? Michael also speaks to somebody with a unique perspective to offer, because it was his job to stop the boats. Former immigration department official Greg Lake tells Michael about the extraordinary lengths he was asked to go to to carry out official government policy – and why he ultimately walked away from the task. Take a close listen to Masayoshi Fujita's latest record, Apologues, and you might hear the rattle of plastic-beaded necklaces or the muted tones of a vibraphone smothered under a tea towel. Fujita has been toying with the prepared vibraphone since he moved to Berlin nearly a decade ago, and he has a good handle on how to bring out new and nuanced sounds. Although he's had a steady stream of collaborations with electronic improvisers like Jan Jelinek and a couple vibes-through-processor discs by "el fog," this is only the second release under Fujita's given name. In 2013, he gave us Stories, a mostly solo vibraphone effort with a couple tracks bulked up with cello and violin. On Apologues, cello and violin are back and joined by a bigger cast of characters. Accordion, flute, snare drums, horns, and clarinet all accompany the vibes. Calling these instruments "characters" isn't a stretch, when you find out that each song on this record comes with its own story. The instruments sometimes even served as inspiration for a scene. Case in point: "Swallow Flies High in the May Sky." Until recently Fujita had never heard the clarinet played in-person, and after an evening of clarinet-filled chamber music, he was so taken with the instrument that this piece emerged. Listen for yourself, and see what you think.

Avenue Red

It is amazing really that it has taken the passage of 25 Avenue Red Podcast episodes before we came to present a DJ/Artist from Germany, especially when we consider it's prominence on the underground music map and the colossal amount of quality music the country emits. And here is installment 26 from Cologne-based DJ, producer, label boss and radio show host Andy Vaz. Originally from Düsseldorf where Kraftwerk originated, Andy is the man behind Background Records, a label that since it's incarnation in 1998 became a key conduit of the true Minimal Techno sound with a release catalogue that is steeped in stripped down, dark and undeniably hypnotic techno - often with some more experimental materials in the mix too. Artists such as: Akufen, Sutekh, Jan Jelinek, Todd Sines, Terrence Dixon, Jeff Milligan, Submania, Rhythm Maker, Kit Clayton, Ectomorph, Deadbeat, Baby Ford, Stewart Walker, Donnacha Costello, Geoff White, Smyglyssna, Portable, Frivolous and many others have graced the Background stage. But Andy Vaz was not one to build his career in electronic music in the bounds of a genre-purist, even though Background was in itself a very clinical and defined brand of techno minimalism. Having always had an equal appreciation for house music too, Andy decided to start a second label called A Touch Of Class in 1999 for the housier shades of music that he wanted to purvey, with the first release an absolute classic - Rick Wade's "Deep Threats EP". In march 2007 Andy launched another label called YORE, which is his ongoing label project to focus on the authentic old-skool Detroit & Chicago House sound with original artists such as Chez Damier, Terrence Dixon, Todd Sines, Alton Miller and again Rick Wade featured on this growing platform. Andy is also very versatile as an artist, having released minimal techno works, obscure oddities, straight-up house music, and has released some conceptual works too in the form of his Soundvariation series (recommended!). Andy is actually the man behind the latest YORE record too with his new EP "It's OK" (YRE-031), the lead track from which opens this mix. The release is due soon, but for now you can hear the preview for the whole EP here: https://soundcloud.com/andyvaz/andy-vaz-its-ok-yre-031-12-preview. We decided to invite Andy to the Avenue Red Podcast after hearing him play on his weekly Saturday night House Of Hope radio shows on Motion FM, as we realised what a truly entertaining, varied and colourful selector he is. In this mix Andy has dug through his record collection to pull out a very groovy and uplifting set of NY House, Garage, Chicago Acid and also some nice, deep Disco-tinged House music with a kind of party feel to it. But the set has real depth, showing Andy to be a DJ with a vastness of musical knowledge that, coupled with his proven passion and experience, means he really knows how to "work it" on the decks! Enjoy the mix everyone! "Taking you back like it's '95!"
