Send us Fan MailIn times of crisis, innovation doesn't slow down - it accelerates.Over the past several years, Ukraine has become globally recognized for its rapid advances in defense technology - particularly in drones and distributed manufacturing. But alongside that transformation, another revolution has been quietly taking shape: the future of medicine, built under extreme conditions.Today, we're exploring that frontier through the work of biodrook (https://biodrook.com/en) - a company developing 3D-printed, biodegradable bone implants designed to help the body regenerate itself. And joining me are three of the leaders building that vision.Denys Gurak is the Founder of biodrook and a longtime innovator at the intersection of technology, policy, and defense. Through his work at MITS Capital, he's been deeply involved in scaling Ukraine's defense-tech ecosystem and connecting it to global supply chains - bringing a systems-level perspective on how innovation happens under pressure.Kateryna Osetrova is Executive Director for Ukraine at biodrook, with a background spanning stem cells, exosome-based therapies, and regenerative medicine. She brings a deep understanding of how these technologies move from concept to clinical reality - and what it takes to deliver them to patients.Michael Pluzhnyk is biodrook's Chief Technology Officer, and is leading the engineering and production of these next-generation implants - translating cutting-edge materials science and 3D printing into real-world medical devices now being deployed in Ukraine.Together, they represent something rare: the convergence of vision, biology, and engineering - applied not in ideal conditions, but in one of the most challenging environments imaginable. So this is a conversation about more than just medical technology. It's about rebuilding the human body. It's about building systems that can operate under extreme stress. And ultimately, it's about what the future of medicine looks like when innovation is no longer optional - but necessary.biodrook Video - https://youtu.be/sK2Y_-A17MI?si=fliuc8oSgaqWxGIE#biotech #regenerativemedicine #3dprinting #bioprinting #medtech #futureofmedicine #healthcareinnovation #orthopedics #tissueengineering #biodegradable #startups #ukraine #innovation #science #technology #medicalbreakthrough #healthtech #longevity #deeptech #engineering #biomaterials #venturecapital #defensetech #futuretechSupport the show

Ep. 223 | Four solid years since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, integral thinkers Kateryna Yasko and Vytautas Bučiūnas relate what life in Ukraine is like—emotionally, physically, spiritually. Far from what you might expect of a conversation about the state of Ukraine after four years of war—far from being battered and downtrodden—this is a story of resilience, resourcefulness, courage, and accelerated human development. Kateryna likens Ukraine to a living laboratory of transformation—with everyone united in the fight to preserve democracy and their identity as a nation, “the social fabric is strong, the resilience is astonishing…heroes receive a lot of gratitude from the people they serve.” On a personal level, Kateryna and Vytas share how they have grown in ways they wouldn't have expected: capacities have widened, appreciation of life has deepened, and experiences of profound joy arise in giving their all, together with their compatriots, for the future of the next generation.Leadership in Ukraine is in an evolutionary elevator, Vytautas, an integral leadership development consultant, tells us. Leaders no longer have the option to be reactive or habitual, and this has generated extraordinary creativity and courage in leadership in the military, business, politics, and social groups. Kateryna, a pedagogical psychologist, points out that human rights, democracy, and freedom are foundational for spiritual growth. People need to understand how to manifest their political self, she says, because if they don't, they will tend to escape into spirituality in a form of spiritual bypassing. “What can we do to help? co-host John Dupuy asks. “Come to Ukraine!” Kateryna and Vytas respond. Come experience and co-create the vertical development happening in this living laboratory of modern crisis. Recorded February 8, 2026.“The best way to practice spirituality is human rights assurance and activism; all the rest is secondary.”Topics & Time StampsIntroducing from Kyiv, Kateryna Yasko, pedagogical psychologist & Vytautas Bučiūnas, integral coach & leadership development consultant (01:01)What is the psychological and physical weather in Ukraine after 4 years of war? Russian propaganda claims that Ukraine is not a separate nation, but merely a “preliminary form” of Russia. Today's Kremlin ideology seeks to annex Ukrainian history in order to justify its territorial aggression. But this myth has a birth certificate. It emerged in the 19th century, when the Russian Empire started inventing its “ancient” medieval roots. Before that, Russian travellers in Ukrainian lands showed little interest in such historical questions. In this episode, we trace the genealogy of the myth that Kyiv is a “Russian city” and that its history somehow belongs to Muscovy. *** Explaining Ukraine is a podcast by UkraineWorld, an English-language media platform about Ukraine, run by Internews Ukraine. Israel spent the last few days engulfed in mass protests and paralyzed by a national strike after the bodies of six hostages, including an American Israeli, were recovered from a tunnel in southern Gaza this weekend. But despite national outcry for a ceasefire, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seemed to double down on his terms for a deal with Hamas during a press conference Monday night. While the war in Gaza captured most of the headlines this weekend, Russia's war in Ukraine is showing no signs of letting up either. On Monday, Russia fired a barrage of missiles and drone attacks on the capital city of Kyiv, while President Volodymyr Zelensky conceded that Ukrainian forces holding territory in Russia had not yet managed to divert troops away from the frontlines of the war in the country's east. Kateryna Hodunova, a journalist at the Kyiv Independent, explains where things stand in Ukraine after two and a half years of war.And in headlines: Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden held their first joint campaign event in Philadelphia to promote their support for unions, Brazil's Supreme Court upheld a decision to ban X in the country, and Italian Paralympic runner Valentina Petrillo became the first openly transgender woman to run in the games. Show Notes:Check out Kateryna's stories – https://tinyurl.com/3yztjcejSubscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday
