Join Nina Rao, acclaimed kirtan artist and devotee in the lineage of Neem Karoli Baba, in this heartfelt conversation with host Avi Gordon at Yogaville. Nina shares her journey from cultural rituals in India to discovering the depth of sadhana (spiritual practice) in New York through yoga, Krishna Das, and her guru Sri Siddhi Ma. Explore how consistent practice—through chanting, prayer, and mindfulness—fosters unconditional love, equanimity, and compassion in daily life. Topics include integrating practice into parenting, overcoming negativity, and remembering our interconnectedness.Nina Rao first learned sacred chants as a young girl from her grandfather in south India, and the chants stayed quietly with her until she rediscovered this powerful practice with Krishna Das in New York in 1996. Since then she has been KD's business manager and accompanies him musically. In 1998 she met her guru, Sri Siddhi Ma, in the foothills of the Himalayas and spent time with her regularly for 19 years, while Ma was in the body. Nina has been chanting regularly as her main practice, has recorded albums that are widely streamed and played around the world, leads chant events, studies and shares Veda chanting and, spiritual texts, is a hospice volunteer, is a podcast host for Be Here Now Network, goes on yatra/pilgrimage, and is a wildlife conservationist as chairperson for Saving Wild Tigers, and hopes that everyone will make a Homegrown National Park in their home by planting native species. Along with the 21 Taras Collective she has released a new album of 7 mantras in 2025. Nina co-hosted and released along with 10 women wisdom leaders, the audio course and program “Sita's Gems”, lifting Sita Devi from victim to heroine of the Ramayana.Timestamps:00:00 - Introduction and Origins of Practice01:12 - Growing Up with Cultural Rituals02:35 - Discovering Sadhana in Adulthood03:42 - Unconditional Love and Inner Peace05:06 - Chanting as a Child and Adult Insights06:24 - Meeting Sidima at Maharaji's Ashram08:45 - Prayer as Daily Practice10:27 - Awareness of Obscurations and Honesty12:02 - Building the Practice Muscle13:28 - Practice for Enlightenment and Less Harm14:52 - Digging a Deep Well (Sidima's Advice)16:12 - Making Everyday Activities Sacred18:15 - Allegiance to Practice and Remembering19:22 - Practice for Compassion and Service21:39 - Aspiration and Dedication in Practice23:20 - Understanding Hearts and Self-Worth25:06 - Acceptance and the Long Road26:56 - Oneness Amid Separation27:41 - Trusting Life's University28:43 - Reflecting on Changes from Practice30:02 - Evolving Family Relationships32:31 - Vulnerability in Parenting34:19 - Purpose, Mistakes, and Gratitude35:58 - Negativity Bias and Sacred Life37:18 - Precious Human Life and Interconnectedness38:58 - Discovery Process in Gratitude and Parenting40:03 - Allowing Children Their Own Path41:31 - Nina's Recent Trip to India with Family42:50 - Parenting with Honor and Acceptance43:43 - Closing and ThanksSubscribe for more inspiring talks on yoga, spirituality, and personal growth. #SpiritualPractice #Kirtan #NinaRaoIf you enjoyed this, check out Nina Rao's website and music: NinaRaoChant.com Hosted on Acast. This week we review a recent report from the Boston Children's team on their 39 year experience managing and caring for children with myocardial infarction following Kawasaki disease (KD). What were the clinical features of KD patients that were most associated with this rare complication? What signs or symptoms should be concerning for the caregiver of patients with KD? What are the more common approaches to the management of MI in this fragile and young patient population? Dr. Sunil Ghelani of Boston Children's Hospital offers the answers this week.

This week we review a landmark paper that came out this month on the topic of ACHD. How common is neurocognitive dysfunction amongst the ACHD patient population? What factors are associated with worse or better such outcomes? What interventions should be considered to mitigate these issues? What is the relationship between mental illness and neurocognitive dysfunction? Dr. Scott Cohen of The Medical College of Wisconsin and Dr. Ali Zaidi of The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai share their insights into their recent multicenter study. doi: 10.1016/j.jacc.2025.06.051Also featured after the article is a brief description of the upcoming Mount Sinai ACHD Conference called: Kawasaki Disease Across The Ages: From Childhood Onset To Adult Outcomes - The 4th Mount SInai ACHD Symposium. In episode 228, we dive deep into a terrible Imperial IPA, Howard tries a questionable snack, and the controversy around AI art. This week, Howard bravely samples Pan's Mushroom Jerky, a vegan, plant-based, gluten-free snack. What's the verdict on this shiitake mushroom-based jerky? Is it a delicious, savory alternative, or just a sweet, chewy oddity? The unexpected California warning label adds another layer of intrigue to this fungus-based discussion. We're also talking about the backlash against AI-generated art and why Howard is moving away from it for show thumbnails. Is AI art a form of theft? We discuss the public skepticism and the hilarity of some AI-generated images, including one of Mark Kidder as Yoda. Plus, we've got updates on "KD's Log," a Beretta disassembly challenge, and Mark's viral petition to ban IPAs. All this, plus a heated debate on Star Trek vs. Star Wars and an expensive car breakdown! We also get into the history of hops and why they were once banned. ** PLEASE SUBSCRIBE ** Welcome to the Where'd You Get Your Funk From? (Episode 26) Jam Fans Forum! This is the fourth Jam Fans Forum episode in which expert panelists provide their top picks in various funk music categories. This time around, we are taking on the improvisational topic of the 5 Greatest Jazz-Funk Albums of All Time. Joining in are three distinguished Jam Fans: music & culture journalist and liner notes master A. Scott Galloway; funk crusader, educator and host of the Uncut Funk radio show, Phil Colley; and lifelong music devotee and host of the FJS (Funky, Jazzy and Smooth) with KD radio show, Karl A. Doss. Thanks to all of them for keeping the funk alive! Panelists' Picks Ground Rules: - Panelists reveal their picks one at a time, explain why and allow others to react. - Picks are not shared ahead of time, so everyone experiences the reveals together. - Panelists may not select the same artist twice. - Panelists should try to avoid picks they chose on past episodes. - Panelists compile alternates in case someone else names the same pick first. Thus, we will end up with 20 picks in total! - Picks must contain minimum three funk tracks or one-third total playing time. - Picks must have been released as albums - no videos or DVDs. - Picks may be shared in random, unranked or in non-chronological order. - Picks may be based more on personal preference than historical context. Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Wed July 30, 2025 Audience: Any family with a DEE who has a kid who has seizures, yes SYNGAP1 is a DEE and you are always my first audience. See #S10e133 if you are curious about DEE vs other names. https://curesyngap1.org/podcasts/syngap10/what-is-this-syngap1-illness-disease-syndrome-ndd-dee-mrd5-nsid-actually-called-s10e133/ Action: If your kid has motor seizures, fill out the screener and join this amazing study. Link here: https://www.resiliencestudies.com/emerald A motor seizure is a seizure where you can see something moving – including head drops, drops, convulsive, etc. – only excluded seizures are absence, myoclonia and infantile spasms. You don't need to figure this out, just fill in the screener, let the doctors figure it out. Questions: Come to live webinar tomorrow, it will not be recorded, so you have to come register here: https://curesyngap1.org/resources/webinars/webinar-111-introduction-to-praxiss-emerald-study-for-syngap1-patients/ TRIAL. Any DEE patient with 4 motor seizures a month, minimum. Age 2-65. Adults are you listening? 24 weeks (6 months) weeks, placebo controlled but everyone will get drug at some point in the trial. 28 weeks (7 months) week OLE, with a chance for expanded access, so if it works, you can stay on. Fully decentralized, you don't have to go to a site if you don't want to. One US site open so far in Bethesda, there will be others. Int'l sites in 2026. US ENROLLING NOW. DRUG. Lots of science and big words in the links below, but here is what you need to know as a parent. It's a liquid, can go oral or in a g-tube. There is no ramp up, you put it in and it works. In terms of speed, think Lorazepam not Lamotrigine. It's potent and specific, which means small volume. Roughly 1ml for 10 kg. This will be a rounding error in the face of a normal SynGAPian med regime. Even though this is a sodium channel drug, it should benefit all DEEs b/c, good to clarify tomorrow, all seizures end with a hyperactive sodium channel firing and that is what Relutragine focuses on. PRAXIS. Serious people, lots of work on Epilepsy. Connected to SYNGAP1 and DEEs, just need to move faster on SYNGAP1 ASO! CSO is Steve Petrou, works with SRF AUS and knows they are waiting. KD and AN started a company for SCN2A and it was absorbed by Praxis, they are still there and are relentless. Work on both small molecules and ASO, this is a way for them to see our team in action. We need better meds and the way to meds is through trials. We need to jump at every trial, every time. 3. This one is decentralized, so minimum burden. If you get in now, this will be over before it's ASO trial time, so you could do both. Our Syngapians with motor seizures tend to be our most severe, we have to make sure we find out if this drug can help. All our kids may progress to this point.
