LAUREN STEWART JOINS DAWN LIVE! Lauren Stewart is senior federal legislative liaison at Americans for Prosperity and Concerned Veterans for America. LAUREN JOINS DAWN EXPANDING ON THE REALITY OF HEALTHCARE COSTS UNDER JOE BIDEN... AND THE IGNORED REALITY FROM THE WH ADMINISTRATION...  Lauren Stewart: “President Joe Biden is trying to rewrite his record on healthcare and hoping no one notices….“More Americans have healthcare today than under any other president, and it's saving the American taxpayers money,” he claimed recently. He then said his political opponents plan to reverse his “accomplishments” and “take healthcare away” from millions of people….A neutral fact-checker would rate those claims “mostly false.”” Lauren Stewart: “Here are the facts on healthcare under Biden: People are currently experiencing the single largest jump in medical expenses in nearly a decade. Almost 75% of voters still worry about healthcare costs and unexpected bills.Nearly 40% of people delayed medical care last year due to concerns about cost.Sixty-eight percent of voters believe the healthcare system has major problems or is in a state of crisis.” Lauren Stewart: “Biden's biggest false claim? That his opponents in Congress don't have any healthcare solutions and want to take the country backward. I talk to lawmakers and staff on Capitol Hill every day. There's zero evidence to support the president's claims….In fact, Congress is focused on bipartisan solutions that expand access to affordable healthcare. Congressional Republicans have introduced dozens of healthcare bills aimed at boosting price transparency, ending unfair billing by hospitals, and empowering lower-income people to control their healthcare dollars through health savings accounts — a measure that would save taxpayers close to $30 billion. Yet another GOP bill would even offer every person the option to obtain the care of their choosing through a generous, universal personal health credit worth $12,000 for a family of four…. These proposals would make healthcare more affordable, expand access, improve quality, and strengthen America's health safety net, all while protecting taxpayers. And they're popular with the voters Biden needs – independents, suburban women, lower- and middle-income families, and minorities. An issue that at one time may have been a weakness for Republicans is now a strength….Biden is pushing a narrative on healthcare that ignores reality. Moreover, it's his own failed policies that have limited access and increased costs. And it's the solutions at the heart of the GOP's health agenda that will put patients in control of their healthcare.” Tune in weekdays 10 AM - 12 PM EST on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT; or on the Audacy app!

From 2018 we present the second of our three-part series Ode to Joysticks. Sit back as we move from 8-bit to 64-bit and find ourselves in worlds old and new, searching for mystical treasure, solving puzzles, joining ancient societies, driving fast cars or at the most fundamental level just trying to survive that new very scary looking new monster coming toward us. We learn how some of the top games composers, conductor and orchestral arrangers challenge themselves with each project to create something new: imagination and determination are needed in equal measure, and within the region of 100 years of experience between them there is plenty to talk about. We speak to composer Winifred Philips who alongside scoring some incredible games has encouraged others into her world with her book A Composer's Guide to Game Music. Composer Nitin Sawhney, who was awarded the Ivor Novello Lifetime Achievement award, but for him it was an invitation from actor and director Andy Serkis that began for a five year adventure scoring two stunningly successful games - soundtracking gamers' moments of frustrating and exhilaration. Composer Austin Wintory who was nominated for a Grammy for his score to Journey, has built a career through a sense of exploration and curiosity. Irish composer and conductor Eímear Noone, the world's current premier conductor of video game scores. As a composer, Eimear is part of the team writing the music for World of Warcraft: Warlords of Dreanor, and conducted of The Zelda Symphony, a full four-movement symphony created from the themes from the iconic video game. Film composer Inon Zur who started off writing music as in-house composer on the Power Rangers TV series, but ended up writing video games scores to be played by the London Symphony Orchestra.Danish composer Jesper Kyd, a self-taught musician who used the Commodore 64 and Amiga as his initial tool for composing - as the computer systems grew and expanded so did his ambition. And Bulgarian composer Penka Kouneva who has worked with the likes of Steve Jablonsky on orchestration the games score for some big franchise game such as Transformers and Gear of War. Finally we speak to professor of psychology Lauren Stewart from Goldsmiths University about how the beep beep 8-bit phenomenon of the earworm has become a common malady for the serious or even casual gamer. Episode 195: Voting in America, compared to many other countries, is not easy. That’s always been true. Donald Trump’s relentless effort to undermine the vote in November, in this case by crippling the postal service and trying to make it impossible for ballots to be counted on time, is surely corrupt. But, the undermining of the vote is made easier by a rickety election system that has existed for decades. Miles Rapoport, a former Connecticut Secretary of State and, now, Senior Practice Fellow in American Democracy at Harvard’s Ash Center, talks to me about the threat to voting this Fall, what we can do and his bigger project to implement a national mandate that everyone must vote as a civic requirement. Support the Working Life Network here: www.patreon.com/WorkingLifePodcast and at ActBlue: secure.actblue.com/donate/working-life-1 If you wanted to pick a country that has been ravaged for decades by economic, political and physical blows a grimly appropriate choice would be Haiti—a country that is the poorest place to live in the Western Hemisphere. Its people endured decades of autocratic rule under the Duvalier regimes, who looted the country. More recently, the scars of a 7.0 earthquake in 2010 still loom large because a desperately poor country always has less ability to cope with a natural disaster and, then, fully recover. Lauren Stewart, the Solidarity Center’s Regional Director for the Americas, joins me to tell the tale of a campaign by Haitian garment workers to survive the COVID-19 pandemic which has put many out of work. Two very annoying cases today sent in by listeners to curiouscases@bbc.co.uk to our scientific sleuths, mathematician Dr Hannah Fry and geneticist Dr Adam Rutherford. The Sticky Song Why do songs get stuck in our heads? And what makes some tunes stickier than others? Drs Rutherford and Fry investigate 'earworms', those musical refrains that infect our brains for days. Every morning BBC 6Music DJ Shaun Keaveny asks his listeners for their earworms, and Hannah finds out which tunes keep coming back. Adam asks Dr Lauren Stewart, from Goldsmiths University, to reveal the musical features that make some songs catchier than others. And they find out why, in times of crisis, an earworm may just save your life. The Shocking Surprise Jose Chavez Mendez from Guatemala asks, "Some years ago, in the dry season, I used to be very susceptible to static electricity. I want to know - why do static shocks happen?" The team uncover some slightly unethical science experiments on static electricity from the 1700s. Hannah Fry uses a Leyden Jar to demonstrate how static electricity works with help from her glamorous assistant, Adam Rutherford. Spoiler Alert: it doesn't end well for Adam. They discover what makes some people more susceptible to static shocks, and how bees and spiders have harnessed the awesome power of electricity. Featuring electromagnetism scientist Rhys Phillips and physicist Helen Czerski, author of 'Storm in a Teacup: The Physics of Everyday Life'.
