Welcome back friends! I'm refreshed after a great summer break. I've travelled far and wide and attended some great festivals as a civilian. Very much needed after over 20 years playing out almost everyday! Some good Stroud based DJ friends, Neon Pumps, Rosy Kear, Matt Sefton & Tom Monobrow, invited me to Bristol to set the scene for a curated night of music. Here's my set (I played 7pm to 8.30pm). It was great to lay it down easy. I'm gonna do more of these for sure! I hope you enjoy it. See you next week 4th October for the usual program. Abdulhamid Kircher is an artist from Queens, New York. He was born in 1996 in Berlin to German and Turkish parents, and immigrated with his mother to the United States at the age of eight. His work is a living archive of place and people, as it is also a dedication to the language of photography, the mechanics and aesthetic possibilities of the form. Through his devotion to classical forms of image making and the radical experimentation required for each of his subjects, his process bridges the idea between document and narrative. He received his BA in Culture and Media from The New School in 2018 and his MFA in Visual Arts from the University of California San Diego in 2022. Abdul currently lives and works between Berlin and Los Angeles.Abdul's debut photobook, Rotting From Within, was recently published by Loose Joints in June this year (2024). In it Abdul explores identity, patriarchy, generational trauma and the possibility of reconciliation in a diaristic project between Berlin and Turkey. A solo exhibition of the work is currently on show at the Carlier Gebauer gallery in Berlin until the 31st August. The 53 minute documentary film, Noch ein Kind (Still a Kid), 2024, by Abdul's childhood friend Maxi Hachem, a Lebanese-German filmmaker based in Berlin, is also being screened as part of the exhibition. His documentary investigates the complex relationships and wounded history of Rotting from Within spanning the past three years between Berlin and Turkey. In episode 237, Abdul discusses, among other things:His early life “dragging bags of weed around the house”The history of paternal abuse in his familyHow he ended up moving from Berlin to New YorkHow he got into photography through TumblrHow his interest in photography drove the reconnection with his fatherWhere the books title stems fromParallels between his mum and grandmotherKeeping a diary since highschoolHis obsessive nature and tendency for self-flagellationHis partner, Zoe, who contributed text to the bookHow the documentary his friend Maxi Hachem shot, Noch Ein Kind (Still A Kid)How the work has been received as an exhibitionHow the process of making the work may or may not have helped himWebsite | Instagram “I love it, but it's beyond love because it feels like something that I just need to do. That's why I was talking about photography being such an intuitive thing in my head, it's because I don't really have an option. I need to take these photographs, I need to make these photographs, and it's not really something I have power over. And I think that's the scary bit, it's that yes I love it for what it's allowed me to explore and allowed me to sort of open up to the world, but in that way it's also become a burden.” Become a full tier 1 member here to access exclusive additional subscriber-only content and the full archive of previous episodes for £5 per month. For the tier 2 archive-only membership, to access the full library of past episodes for £3 per month, go here.

In the first-ever episode of PhotoWork with Sasha Wolf recorded in front of an audience, Sasha and photographer Rahim Fortune gathered at picturehouse + thesmalldarkroom to discuss his new book, Hardtack, published by Loose Joints. Sasha and Rahim delve into the significance of collaboration, with Rahim emphasizing the various forms of collaboration involved at every stage of the book's creation. This includes the individuals Rahim photographed, the production team at picturehouse, and the editing process with Sarah Chaplin Espenon at Loose Joints. https://www.rahimfortune.com | https://loosejoints.biz/collections/current-titles/products/hardtack Rahim Fortune is a visual artist and educator from the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma. All of us have some experience coaching and/or being coached. Sometimes your coach was a mentor…a teacher…a friend…someone to confide in. And other times your coach was just a giant piece of shit. On this episode Greg talks about coaching and what it means to him to mold the young people of America. And John and Kevin wonder how he passed the background check. Photography has always been a uniquely mobile medium, unconfined to an artist’s studio. What happens to the medium when its peripatetic practitioners are locked in place? When they lose access to the world’s photographic face? What happens to photography under lockdown? In this episode, art historian Samuel Shapiro sits down with American photographers Res and Bryson Rand to talk about photography and interiority, about the necessarily inward turn their photography has taken during our collective confinement. They discuss about their practices, the impact of lock down in their photographic work and the general state of the medium today. This episode is presented in conjunction with the online viewing room The World Within: Photography and Interiority. Res earned an MFA from the Yale School of Art in 2017 and has shown all over New York, New Haven, and Florida, where they recently completed a residency with Catherine Opie. Res’s work has been featured in Aperture, Cultured, and W Magazine and a few of their notable recent projects include Pulse, a series made in the aftermath of the Pulse Nightclub shooting in 2015 and Towers of Thanks, a 2017 photobook published by Loose Joints, that explored their mother’s role as the construction manager for Trump Tower. Bryson Rand received an MFA from the Yale School of Art in 2015 and has since also attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. He’s shown in galleries from Berlin to Mexico City to New York, where he’s had solo shows at Zeit Contemporary Art and La Mama Galleria and where he participated in an exhibition at the Leslie Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art. He’s published four books and has lectured at Harvard University, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the School of Visual Arts. Enter Online Viewing Room

Another Love Story is the perfect gathering. A festival in a manor house in Meath where the audience was as integral to the vibe as the music and happenings. Lovingly organised with thoughtful programming (it finishes at 6.30 on a Sunday so it feels different to others) with attention to details down to the aesthetic of the bins. Part of its intimacy extends to the library and front room where talks and performances happen and a sprinkle of spontaneity hangs in the air. Donal Lunny might show up and lead a folk club, your mate might start being a literal windowlicker when you're recording a podcast as what happened when Loose Joints did a live recording of the pod with guests Conor O'Brien (Villagers) and Richie Egan (Jape). Giddy tunes, Skin flutes, cowboy trousers, artists who are doses or not, dubstep remixes, being overshadowed by your duet collaborator, how to have a casual conversation with Bjork and outlier electronica are just some of the things we covered in our hour. Special thanks to Siobhan Kane for having us down in the Library and to the Another Love Story audience in the room and beyond. Our first Loose Joints Podcast of the year with your hosts Nialler9 and Sally Cinnamon is here. Loose Joints is a podcast where the two of us talk to a guest about the music they love: old and new, and play some of those tunes. The podcast, true to the name features a loose collection of tunes, tied together by little logic, just like our chats which this month included a long conversation about how great Myspace was, why school should teach you how to do your taxes, the pleasure of browsing a record shop, under-rated Irish bands of recent years, getting back into guitars by going to raves and the reality of being in a band in 2017. Just in time for Christmas, the Loose Joints Podcast is back with a look at the best of 2016. The podcast features Nialler9 and Sally Cinnamon talking to a guest about the music they love: old and new.
After a month's hiatus hampered by illness and cancellations, Loose Joints is back. The new hosted by Nialler9 and Sally Cinnamon talking to people about the music they love: old and new. On this episode, Aisling Rogerson, cofounder behind what I'd consider the best café in Dublin joins us. The Fumbally started a few years ago as a humble café in a post-recession space and it's only grown to incorporate Wednesday night dinners, occasional events and the Fumbally Stables next door where they host workshops, yoga, dinners, events and talks. Listen in as we pick some new music from all three of us and ask Aisling to pick out some special considerations. Inevitably, the chat turns to Simply Red once more. Subscribe in iTunes. Our musical selection is banger-heavy and our chat takes in losing your hearing in Ibiza, your ideal funeral songs, we agonise over our guilty pleasure choices and Emmet explains the appeal of Mark Morrison's Get Horny, Sally explains the torrid appeal of "the mortify human saveloy that is Simply Red" and backbreakers. This episode we find DJ Rules in a New York state of mind. He's been digging deep into US post-punk, Funk No-Wave and come out with his head wedged inside the Big Apple and a big Konk where his nose should be. Don't worry, Dr Volume is on hand to mix things up a bit so expect the usual genre hopping mash up and we end with some proper blissed out shoegazey vibes as usual. Find out if we figure out how to pronounce Jean-Michel Basquiat and find out there's more to Was Not Was than 'Walk the Dinosaur'. The tunes come from Cheatahs, Konk, The Cravats, Suicide, Younghusband, Was Not Was, Finitribe, Loose Joints, Demdike Stare, Chrome, LFO, E.S.G and Snowbird.
More from the 80's crates. Tracks from Indeep, Phreek, Vaughn Mason, Loose Joints, Blondie, Rufus & more... http://twitter.com/Drfrankenstine http://www.facebook.com/pages/DJ-Frankie-tee/179003682212547
Everlasting dancefloor classics by The Strikers, First Choice, Loose Joints, Salsoul Orchestra, One Way, Farley 'Jackmaster' Funk....
Back in the peak of the “disco sucks” movement, Ted Nugent-adoring redneck crowds would promote “disco demolition derbys”, where they would proceed to torch piles of disco records. They were expressing their hatred of a music that was: a) pansexual; b) of black, Latin and gay origins; c) produced by studio boffins; d) exuded cosmopolitan savoir faire. Disco was, then, also ‘dying’ in the mainstream, thanks to an onslaught of extremely cheesy tunes that clogged the airwaves. Unfortunately, to a lot of people this is the disco they know: Village People-style crap, bad karaoke fodder. Disco, of course, was so much more than that. It not only carried on breathing, thanks to a creative and thriving underground, but also became the blueprint for the next dancefloor revolution just round the corner — namely house music. To this day, it remains one of the key influences in the music many of us dance to. This podcast pays tribute to this magnificent movement by ‘demolishing’ disco in a much more positive way: mixing, editing, juxtaposing and mashing up new and old interpretations. From the galactic bliss of Orlando Riva Sound to the symphonic sass of the Salsoul Orchestra, from the synthetic homages of Lindstrom & Prins Thomas to the shiny funkiness of Le Grand David, from the leftfield proto-garage of Loose Joints to the classic italo sounds of Klein & MBO, there is a bit of everything in here. You'll also hear Chicken Lips, Giorgio Moroder, Jermaine Jackson, Donna Summer, Dinosaur, Padded Cell and, erm, The Glitter Band (funky as fuck, check it out!). Brazilians make two decisive contributions: Azymuth's anthemic Jazz Carnival and Jorge Ben's discofied samba Taj Mahal (which Rod Stewart stole for Do Ya Think I'm Sexy — Ben sued and won, you'll be pleased to know). Before you ask, this mix was done in Ableton Live, so those ever-shifting live drummer beats from the 1970s would behave and sit where they were told.
