What a title, huh? Probably wondering how that line came up in the episode. Well you have to listen to the show to learn that answer but I'll let you in on a little secret. I got stepped on today. Now I know that that sounds kinda hot and I won't lie it was quite warm out but it wasn't too fun. But you know what is fun? Talking with friends and that's what happened on this episode. That and some comics, including Batman: Reptilian #3, Harley Quinn #6, Robin #5, Echolands #1, Die #19, Made In Korea #4, Department of Truth #12, Vinyl #3, and That Texas Blood #9! My hand hurts.

This week: "Djeliya” by Juni Ba (TKO). New issues of “Crossover,” “Monstress,” “Usagi Yojimbo,” and “Made in Korea." First, we review “Djeliya” by Juni Ba from TKO Studios (video episode here). Juni Ba's new graphic novel is “A West African Fantasy Epic” and follows djeli (storyteller and advisor) Awa as she fights for (and with!) Monsour, heir to a throne, against gods and beasts for the rightful throne. Ba's work artfully mixes Cartoon Network stylistics with folk narratives from Ba's Senegal/West Africa, as he mentions in this great interview with the Comic Book Couples Counseling podcast. Paul unpacks some of why this book has jumped to the tops of his list, and Juni Ba to the group of creators Paul's most excited about. On this week's “Polybagged,” (video episode here) covering some new comics in shops this week (June 30, 2021), we talk about: “Usagi Yojimbo: Dragon Bellow Conspiracy” #1 by Stan Sakai and Pattison (c) (IDW), “Made in Korea” #2 by Holt and Schall (Image), “Monstress” #35 by Liu and Takeda (Image), and “Crossover” #2 by Zdarsky, Hester, and Parks (Image) with mentions of other titles. In this insightful and honest interview, Jeremy Holt discusses the very real origins of their new comic, co-created with artist George Schall and letterer Adam Wollett: Made In Korea. A heartfelt, beautiful sci-fi comic, Made In Korea is the story of Jess, a proxy. Proxies are robotic children, powered by A.I., created to help couples rendered sterile by an unknown disease, raise children. But Jess is special and carries a secret... Made In Korea arrives in comic shops 26th May, so contact your local comic shop to get a copy now!
