https://teachhoops.com/ We often hear the cliché that elite athletes and coaches are "wired differently," as if they were born with a biological advantage in competitive grit. In reality, what we perceive as "wiring" is actually a highly developed "Default Setting" created through intentional habit-building. "Winners" don't possess a different set of emotions; they possess a different "Relationship with Discomfort." While the average player views fatigue or failure as a signal to "pull back," the elite player views it as the "Entry Fee" for success. This is what psychologists call "High Frustration Tolerance." To build this in your program, you must move beyond the scoreboard and begin rewarding the "Process of Struggle." The second pillar of the "Winner's Wiring" is "Obsessive Role Clarity." Winners don't try to do everything; they try to do their thing at a world-class level. They possess an "Internal Compass" that keeps them focused on their "Circle of Influence." In the mid-season January grind, "Winners" are the ones who don't get distracted by the "noise" of social media rankings or playing time complaints. They have a "Monastic Focus" on the next rep. You can train this by implementing "Single-Task Drills" where a player's only job for 5 minutes is to be an elite "communicator" or an elite "rim protector." By narrowing their focus, you widen their impact. Finally, Winners possess "Emotional Elasticity." They bounce back from a turnover or a missed shot faster than their opponents. This isn't because they don't care about the mistake—it's because they have a "Short-Term Memory for Failure" and a "Long-Term Memory for Success." Use your TeachHoops member calls to "audit" your team's "Recovery Speed." Are your players "hanging their heads" for three possessions after a bad call? If so, their "wiring" needs a reboot. By teaching "The Art of the Reset," you ensure that your team spends more time in the "Present Moment" than in the "Past Mistake." This mental agility is the ultimate "competitive gear" that separates the champions from the contenders. Start Your True Anxiety Healing Today With Me By Your Side Every Step Of The Way → Click Here Today's Episode: Short term memory changes are common during anxiety and burnout, yet they can feel unsettling when they show up. In this episode, Dennis Simsek explains why memory often feels unreliable when the nervous system is living in survival mode and how this is a natural response to prolonged stress rather than a sign that something is wrong. You will learn how anxiety shifts the brain's priorities, why effort and mental checking tend to increase symptoms, and how clarity returns through safety instead of force. Dennis also shares a gentle, practical approach through surrender, including how to use the Surrender Sessions on The Anxiety Guy YouTube channel to support nervous system regulation. This episode is especially helpful for those experiencing health anxiety, brain fog, or mental exhaustion and looking for reassurance and a calmer path back to presence. ▶️ Listen & Subscribe: Apple Podcasts: Subscribe Here Spotify: Subscribe Here YouTube: Subscribe Here Episode page: Catch up on previous episodes here

Why do people fight so hard against the Establishment one year only to fall in line with their chosen one the next year?
The leading theory for learning and memorization in the brain is that learning is provided by synaptic learning rules and memories stored in synaptic weights between neurons. But this is for long-term memory. What about short-term, or working, memory where objects are kept in memory for only a few seconds? The traditional theory held that here the mechanism is different, namely persistent firing of select neurons in areas such as prefrontal cortex. But this view is challenged by recent synapse-based models explored by today's guest and others.
Do you prefer multistory episodes, single story episodes, or a mix? Let us know! In this episode of Discover Daily, Sienna dives into the fascinating world of the Method of Loci, an ancient memory technique that's making a comeback in the digital age. The Method of Loci, also known as the memory palace technique, involves visualizing a familiar location in your mind and mentally placing the items you want to remember along a path through that space. By retracing your imaginary steps, you can easily recall the information in the order you placed it.Sienna explores the science behind this technique, revealing how it takes advantage of our brain's natural ability to remember spatial information and transforms abstract data into vivid, location-based images. She shares studies that demonstrate the method's effectiveness in improving both short-term and long-term memory, and discusses its wide-ranging applications, from students memorizing complex academic material to memory champions recalling thousands of digits of pi.While the Method of Loci has been around for centuries, Sienna highlights its relevance in the modern world. She shares creative ways to adapt this technique for various subjects and learning scenarios, from creating subject-specific memory palaces to using virtual reality to build immersive memory spaces. Sienna also discusses the importance of training our natural memory abilities in an age where information is always at our fingertips, emphasizing how the Method of Loci can help keep our minds sharp and allow us to engage more deeply with the information we learn. From Perplexity's Discover Feed: https://www.perplexity.ai/page/the-method-of-loci-lKScL8YTQkqwUKzeSSVc.APerplexity is the fastest and most powerful way to search the web. This week RJ Broadhead is joined by Courtney Stephen and Rob Hitchcock to discuss the performance of the team so far in the season, the firing of the Tiger-Cats' special teams coordinator, and the emergence of certain players. They emphasize the importance of players stepping up and giving their all on special teams, as well as the need for a strong team culture. They also discuss the potential for improvement and the importance of having a short-term memory in football. The conversation touches on the performance of receiver Tim White and the success of Shemar Bridges on second downs, the team's offense, the importance of timing and decision-making, the role of the coaching staff, and the need to focus on winning rather than individual accolades.TakeawaysThe firing of the special teams coordinator highlights the need for players to step up and give their all on special teams.A strong team culture and players taking ownership of their performance are crucial for success. The team has shown potential for improvement and has several talented players who can make a difference.Having a short-term memory and focusing on the next play is important in football. The emergence of Shemar Bridges on second downs and the performance of receiver Tim White are positive signs for the team. Do you ever wonder how negative early life experiences shape our children's minds? Listen in as my guest, Marc Hauser explains the effect of early childhood trauma and what we can do about it. Click here for the show notes and extra resources. I know how impressionable young brains are and have always been fascinated with the concept of the absorbent mind. Yet, in this episode, we go a little deeper into understanding how early childhood traumas affect brain development. It was not an easy conversation, but an important one nonetheless. What We Talked About: What compelled Marc to write about early childhood traumas in ‘Vulnerable Minds' The impact of trauma on children's overall development The different types of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) and how they can affect children differently. That Show Hasn't Been Funny In Years: an SNL podcast on Radio Misfits
Nick chats about Conan O'Brien's time at "Saturday Night Live." From '88 to '91, Conan was on the SNL writing crew, penning or helping to pen some epic sketches like "Girl Watchers" with Jon Lovitz and Tom Hanks, and the laugh-out-loud "Mr. Short Term Memory" acts. He popped up in skits, usually playing doormen, lent his voice to bits, and was part of a killer writing squad with folks like Jim Downey, Greg Daniels, Bob Odenkirk, and the one-of-a-kind Robert Smigel (who teamed up with Conan again on "Late Nite" for Triumph The Insult Comic Dog). In this talk, you'll catch wind of the celeb hosts Conan dug working with (think Hanks and Steve Martin), and some that gave him the jitters, like George Steinbrenner. Plus, there are nuggets about crazy late-night writing crunches, meeting Lorne Michaels, and that one time Conan came back to host in March 2001. And it all builds up to this legendary sketch that Conan was part of. It was so edgy it sparked a flood of 48,000 complaints and broke records for saying 'penis' more times than anyone ever did on TV in just five minutes—which is why this episode's got its name. It's a rundown of Conan's unforgettable stint at SNL, with every 'penis' mention tallied up. [EP47]

We all know about "The Five-Timers Club," which consists of celebrities who have hosted "Saturday Night Live" five times or more, but there is also a more exclusive club that consists of some hosts who are so good, that they actually have recurring characters that show up every time they host. They are characters that the fans love. They have their own catchphrases. They are sometimes just as popular as the cast members' creations. In this episode, Nick looks at some of the most memorable recurring characters created by hosts such as: Dwayne Johnson, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Martin, Tom Hanks, Justin Timberlake, and more. You love "Mr. Short-Term Memory," "The Continental," "Tony Bennett," Theodoric of York," Lexi," and even the controversial "Uncle Roy." In this episode, you will learn the stories of their creations, how many times they appeared on the show, how they were received, and, you'll hear the sketches they appeared in. Some classic and popular characters played by the hosts, not the cast members, are the focus of this "THAT SHOW...". [EP33]
