Strategic partnerships – those relationships between traditional financial institutions and fintechs – have become really integral as banks seek to modernize their offerings and fintechs aim to scale their operations and get distribution. KeyBank and Qolo have teamed up on an embedded finance offering. On today's episode, we sit with Jon Briggs, Head of Product and Innovation at KeyBank, and Patricia Montesi, Co-founder and CEO of Qolo. Their collaboration story begins two years ago when a single slide in Qolo's pitch deck caught KeyBank's attention. "We still talk about it today," Montesi recalls. "It was the ‘Series A: Winter Slide', which was all about how fintech had created this spiderweb ecosystem of suppliers. And sort of put the burden back on banks and corporates to bring it all together." Their shared goal of simplifying fintech sparked a partnership that's addressing how treasurer think about and use banking. As Briggs explains, "We enter partnerships because they need a lot of mind share, a lot of sweat equity." What set Qolo apart was their deep understanding of banking-grade compliance and operational risk. This makes the integration process less painful. The result of their collaboration? KeyVAM, a virtual account management system that simplifies money movement by consolidating balances and transactions in a virtual platform, reducing the need for organizations to manage multiple accounts or complex account structures. KeyBank's Jon Briggs and Qolo's Patricia Montesi are my guests today on the Tearsheet Podcast.

A domani!

In this episode of the Americas Series, David Yakobovitch spoke to Patricia Montesi, co-founder and CEO of Qolo, a FinTech for FinTechs. Here is what they discussed (and more): FinTechs have traditionally didn't always like the relationships but had nowhere else to go. Today there are more options, but unhealthy relationships remain. Now, FinTechs get lured by "quick-to-market" approaches that limit functionality and revenue. Rather than setting them up for growth, they're more like cell phone contracts which look great to start but lock clients into expensive, long-term deals that don't really meet their needs. How do you future-proof FinTechs for future growth? FinTechs demand omnichannel capabilities and more control over product customization and revenue, leaving the door open for competitors to take advantage. We are in a Fintech Gold Rush right now, and the Fintech industry is getting smart about how it wants to attack the opportunity. It takes a next-generation payments approach to meet the need truly. Alongside the FinTech industry's reputation as forward-thinking and fast-moving lies a parallel universe of notoriously slow players and systems that are still nostalgic for an era gone by. The pandemic has provided revelations and we have also unearthed an undeniable truth - for the payments industry to continue providing essential services, we must be willing to pull back the covers. And there is one dirty secret that's stopping us from moving forward with a more trustworthy and transparent industry: We've Got a Big Risk Management Problem. The payments industry ecosystem includes four major components: infrastructure (like Qolo), program managers/resellers (like Payoneer), middlemen (resellers), and businesses. Program managers sit one level above infrastructure services, but that means they are also one level removed. Middlemen like Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) providers push their customers back one level more. And with each level is a new link that can be broken, introducing further risk, cost, and loss of efficiency. The industry-accepted this multilevel approach in earlier days, but more recent news has revealed a flaw in that model, and some FinTech companies are still reeling from it. Conclusion: Learn more about how better to assess future needs by careful vetting of your technology Demand more from your payments platform

This week's guest is fantastic comedian, writer and political commentator Gráinne Maguire, who has appeared on Question Time, written on shows such as The Last Leg and who joins us on, among other things, a lengthy tangent about Easter as we try to pick apart a political scandal from 1950s Italy...In April 1953, socialite and aspiring actress Wilma Montesi is found dead on a beach, with no real clues as to how she got there, or even how she died. A huge veil of secrecy is drawn over the whole affair which leads to much suspicion and whispers of an enormous political scandal in 20th Century Roman society...At the Mystery on the Rocks bar you’ll find a retired sleuth, the bartender trying to settle his tab, and the down-on-her-luck lounge singer, solving mysteries and drinking cocktails. Each week a new guest enters the bar and attempts to solve an unsolved mystery alongside the regulars. Hosted by Masud Milas, Chris Stokes, and Sooz Kempner. It’s a high concept comedy and true crime podcast, set in a fictional crime-solving bar (with real cocktails!). The focus of the show is to attempt to crack a real, unsolved mystery from history – true crime and bizarre occurrences, all with a whodunnit or WTF happened question hanging over them. Masud makes the drinks, Chris tells the mystery and Sooz sings and plays live piano – and everyone chats and chimes in with their theories. You can follow us on Twitter and Instagram too!Produced by Chris Stokes, Sooz Kempner & Masud Milas. 1953. Italia.

What is your personal brand? Why should you care about it? Why does it matter? Where do you start and how do you build your personal brand? Well, this is where today’s special guest Andrew Montesi comes in. You see, over the years I’ve learned the hard way that it doesn’t matter how good you are at what you do, if the right people don’t know about it and they don’t know, like and trust you then you are always going to do it tough. This is particularly relevant in today’s world of constant noise where everyone with an iPhone is a budding journalist, DJ, photographer, movie star and influencer and the old 15 minutes of fame has been reduced to 15 seconds as it is drowned out in constant ad nauseum noise. So a couple of years ago we delved into the personal branding space and had involvement with a lot of so called media expert propeller heads who promised the world but delivered very little – until we were lucky enough to meet today’s guest who has been instrumental in profiling and positioning me personally and our KNOW:HOW business as thought leaders in the property finance industry nationally – and the benefits have been amazing and life changing. Andrew Montesi calls himself a full stack marketer but I call him the all things marketing orchestra leader or conductor - I just hum a few bars of a marketing song I am thinking of and he turns this into a full blown symphony, assembles all of the best available musicians and instruments and makes sure they’re performing our song in front of a large interested crowd who wants to hear it. Andrew, or Monty as he is best known, answers all of your personal branding questions today, he opens your ears to the critical importance of your personal brand and motivates you on how to get started or to be doing it a lot more effectively. Andrew is managing director at Apiro Consulting and head of marketing at PickStar. Happy Pride, Zalagang! As a special treat for the season, I'm publicly releasing last year's most popular CEREBRO Secret File — a deep dive with CEREBRO's Official Lesbian Correspondent Sara Century on Marvel's first lesbian hero, Dr. Vicki Montesi of the Darkhold Redeemers. Hope you love!Created by writer Chris Cooper and introduced in 1992 as the protagonist of Darkhold: Pages from the Book of Sins, Vicki leads a group informally known as the Darkhold Redeemers, part of the early 90s Marvel Magic franchise called The Midnight Sons. She's an Italian doctor apparently born into the Montesi family, a mysterious and ancient lineage of holy protectors tied to the Vatican... but her true nature threatens to end all reality.Features tangents about Witches (starring Jennifer Kale, Topaz, and Satana Hellstrom), Mary Jane Watson, and whatever else came up mid-conversation.(Content Advisory: Vicki's story includes homophobia, ableism, and involuntary pregnancy. Darkhold is a horror book and has lots of upsetting stuff in it in general.)This episode was originally published at patreon.com/cerebrocast on August 23, 2021.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands
