Long Live Democracy! with Barbara Berger It's no secret that we are living through a very challenging time in human history where the whole world is experiencing so much conflict and the unfortunate but serious decline of democracy. We see and hear every day the tragic news from the US (where I was born and raised) as to the difficulty so many people are having when it comes to engaging in respectful, constructive conversations with each other. It seems to be increasingly difficult for many people to talk or debate with others respectfully, especially when they have different ideas as to how things can and should be done. Therefore, I believe nothing is more important in today's world than that we all remind ourselves on a daily basis of the importance of the basic democratic principles upon which our societies here in the West are based. And that we continually ask ourselves how well we are doing (each one of us) when it comes to having respectful conversations and exchanges of ideas with our friends, family members and colleagues at work. Once we understand that it's just as important to practice the basic democratic principles in our families, couple relationships and other close relationships as it is to practice them in our society in general, the question arises as to how these democratic principles actually play out in our relationships in practice? In other words, most specifically and concretely, how do we talk, act and treat each other when democratic principles and respect are our starting point? I try to answer these very important questions about how to apply these basic democratic principles in our closest relationships in my latest book “Healthy Models for Relationships – the Basic Principles Behind Good Relationships With Your Partner, Family, Parents, Children, Friends, Colleagues and All the Other People in Your Life”. For more about the book, click here: https://beamteam.com/en/barbara/healthy_models.html What do healthy relationships look like? Most of the difficulties we face on a daily basis have to do with our relationships – be it with our partners, families, children, parents – or with our friends, neighbors or colleagues at work. This is why most of us really want to know how we can best get along with other people. What do healthy couple relationships look like? What do healthy families look like? What are the characteristics of respectful, constructive conversations? How can we best navigate through the challenges we meet in our daily lives and disagree with our friends, colleagues and families in a respectful way without running away or going on the attack? Is it possible to speak respectfully and reach compromises which function for everyone involved? In short, what do healthy relationships look like? Barbara Berger's answer to these important questions are her Healthy Models which describe what healthy relationships look like in practice. The value of these Healthy Models is that when we have clear models of how healthy behavior looks, we can then compare our own relationships to these models and identify what is not working in our relationships. And this can be a big help because then we can begin to work to improve our relationships. The book is packed with practical techniques and exercises. The Sound Chaser Progressive Rock Podcast is on the air. The show this time is a special review of albums that made the Official Progressive Albums Chart. I also have an In Memoriam feature to commemorate Moody Blues keyboardist Mike Pinder. All that, plus news of tours and releases on Sound Chaser. Official Charts is the company in the UK that keeps track of singles and album sales in the UK, the equivalent of Billboard in the US. In 2015, Official Charts started a new feature, the Progressive albums chart, which started as a monthly listing in September of that year. Charts cover a one-month period, listing the top 30 sellers in that category for that month. Because the charts simply rate according to sales, albums that make the charts include not only new music, but also reissues of old music. Thus, you will hear in the sample in this show a mix of the newer and older music. Also, I have not limited the selections to chart toppers, but have included music that peaked in different locations of the charts. Playlist1. Barbara Berger authored the best seller "The Road to Power, Fast Food for the Soul" which has been published in 30 languages. This is the 3rd interview about her personal road to power. Many people have asked how she achieved the wisdom to write that book and she realized she needed to tell us about her journey, thus her newest book, "My Road to Power, Sex, Trauma & Higher Consciousness" She's back to tell us more about this amazing life journey where she challenged herself with very difficult adventures. Barbara's purpose was to find ultimate answers so she could help all of us. Indeed, she discovered great truths about life and how we can live in the power we all strive for. Don't miss this opportunity to hear her very unique, extremely fascinating recollections that absorbed my full attention on every page of her book. It's really very brave of her to offer these personal stories that have been waiting to be told.
MY ROAD TO POWER- Sex, Trauma & Higher Consciousness with Barbara Berger Many readers want to know more about Barbara Berger and her “Road to Power”. How did she do it? What was her pathway? Now, in her captivating and ruthlessly honest autobiography, “MY ROAD TO POWER – Sex, Trauma & Higher Consciousness”, Barbara shares, for the first time, her amazing life story and her own long, challenging road to power. From a childhood in the cultural wasteland of American suburbia to rebellion against the Vietnam War and going underground, fleeing to Europe, Canada and Mexico and then finally to Scandinavia where Barbara and her husband Steve got political asylum and where Barbara became a leading voice in the youth rebellion of the late 60s, this book tells the story of those tumultuous times. From runaway hippie to vanguard author and leader, to new marriage and three children, then head of a thriving Macrobiotic health center in downtown Copenhagen, followed by breakdown, divorce and the struggle to become a free and independent woman. Until today, where Barbara is now the author of 15 successful self-help books, two of which are international bestsellers published in 30 languages. But “MY ROAD TO POWER” is much more than Barbara's own, personal story – it is also a historical journey through the major collective movements and experiments arising since the Second World War – the Beat Generation, the Hippies, mind-altering drugs, travelling to the East (for enlightenment), organic foods, organic living, moving to the country, collective living and more. The saga ends as Barbara's focus changes (because of her own struggles and inner work) to the rising awareness of the power of mind and consciousness in shaping our lives and societies. Discoveries which are of major importance in today's very challenging and troubled world. EX43 - Rick Cua - Dave Reconnects With His Bass Inspiration - Wear Your Colors, You're My Road and Won't Fade Away In a society that seeks fame and fortune above all, Rick Cua's simple mission – to share the love of God through music – is a cool drink of water in a dry land. Add to that wide-ranging experience and wisdom gained from over thirty nine years in music ministry and business, along with a gift of encouragement and you have the components of an artist, teacher and speaker with a passion for helping others find their fullness in Christ. Proverbs 4:7 says “Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do! And whatever else you do, get good judgment.” (NLT) Rick has spent his life putting that scripture into practice. From his experiences as an artist, minister and music businessman, he has a wealth of knowledge to share; and the act of sharing is what motivates him. When you read about Rick's experience, it is easy to understand why he is such a resource to the church. Having been a member of a successful mainstream rock group, The Outlaws, then continuing for 41 years as a Christian recording artist, serving for 5 1/2 years as Vice President of EMI Christian Music Publishing, and 32 years as an ordained minister, gives Rick a rich well to draw from. Currently, Rick focuses his time on front-line ministry at Grace Chapel in Franklin, TN. He stays active in music through speaking, writing and publishing along with playing and recording with his long time band, Blues Counsel and recently releasing his 3rd book, What Are You Known For? 31-Day Devotional & Journal. All this to support his personal mission of sharing the power of God's Word through music, the written and spoken word and hands on ministry. “I love to get out and play music, I really do. I love teaching. I love talking and teaching about worship and songwriting, and wrapping the Word around all of that. In recent years I have become aware of the fact that I am ministering as a player and as a coach. Not only passing along my experience through mentoring but by modeling it as well.” Rick says. Rick's career as a musician has always carried the hallmark of an artist who passionately holds on to his Biblical convictions and communicates uplifting and straightforward messages to his audience. All of his songs are written with the intent to ultimately point to Christ. “Music is such a motivator. When you put the truth in music, and you hit that emotional nerve, it works,” explains Rick. “I feel called to build people up. My goal is to take the Word and Godly principles and attach it to music that is going to get them excited, and want to sing along and want to believe in what they are hearing and what they are singing…as an artist, that's what it's all about.” To that end, Rick continues to write and record new songs that have been born out of a progressive artistic vision. His involvement in the burgeoning praise and worship community over the years is definitely having an impact. “Many of the songs I write are anthemic in nature; big choruses and a message thats motivating and uplifting. My hope has always been that after listening or singing along people will feel better about life, themselves and about the power of God working in and through them” Rick Cua - Wear Your Colors Rick Cua - You're My Road Rick Cua - Won't Fade Away http://rickcua.com/ Add To My Playlist Site

Rapha presents Life in the Peloton! We are back for the first episode of 2023, and I've kicked off the new year in much the same way I finished 2022 – with a cross-border bike packing trip across Australia! This time, it's The Rat to Radelaide. If you're picking up on the vibe that I'm loving these trips, you would be right. My Road to the Worlds trip really ignited a passion for this style of riding, and I love taking you along for the journey to show you what it's like out there, in the hope it will encourage you to explore some of the incredible places in your own backyard by bike. Inspired by my September trip, I set out to design the ultimate journey to fill the week-long gap between the Australian National Road Championships in Ballarat, and the Tour Down Under in Adelaide – and so the Rat to Radelaide was born - the journey across. The idea was to replicate the spirit of The Road to the Worlds, but this time, to share the experience, with all its inevitable highs and the lows, with a select group of riders. Putting together the perfect group was difficult – we didn't necessarily need to know each other, but we'd need to be able to mesh quickly, and work well together over five long, hard days of up to nine hours in the saddle. While the group selection was hard, in the end, the dynamic between the six riders on the trip is what really made the journey what it was. I was joined by road cyclist Peta Mullens, gravel specialist Ella Bloor, bike packing enthusiast and current pro Lachlan Morton, Aussie cyclo-cross champion and road cyclist Tommy Chapman, and the renowned cycling journalist Rupert Guinness. It was the perfect group, with lots of bonding, no blow-ups, and the ideal blend of experience, humbleness, energy, and determination to make it across to Adelaide. We didn't take the easiest or the most direct route, instead, it was selected to take us through the heart of Australia, to places that we'd never seen before and give us a taste of the real Aussie outback. I'll admit my route selection was unpopular at times, and on some particularly long days, it would've been nice to cut a few corners or jump on the highway instead of the dirt. But all in all, the route was incredible, and seeing the outback of Australia and experiencing the harshness of it for what it is – the heat, the red dirt, the country bakeries, and classic outback pubs – was everything I had hoped for. I hope you enjoy following along on our journey across The Rat to Radelaide, and I hope it inspires you to get out there and explore for yourself. Remember, trips like these don't need to be epic or punishing, they don't even need to be all that long, but seeing the country by bike is an unforgettable experience that I highly recommend you try for yourself. Cheers, Mitch
Don Townsend joined the British army as a private in 1940 and saw service in Egypt, then India and Burma. After five years of active service he left the army as a Major. First in the Unknown Soldiers Podcast's interview series, we have Mr. David Townsend, author of "My Road to Mandalay: Compiled from his Father's Letters." David's father fought in the Burma Campaign of World War II, and his letters were only found years later. David tells us about his discovery of the side of his father that he never knew: one more of history's Unknown Soldiers.Amazon link to My Road to Mandalay: https://tinyurl.com/mw9m3689Check the website: https://www.unknownsoldierspodcast.comDavid's website:https://www.myroadtomandalay.com/Social Media: https://www.facebook.com/unknownsoldierspodcast https://twitter.com/unksoldierspod
Major Donald Townsend experienced some of the most extraordinary events in British history. In My Road to Mandalay, author David Townsend recounts his father's adventures fighting with the "Forgotten Army" in the China-Burma-India theater during World War II. David expertly choreographs this story through a collection of more than 500 letters his father wrote to his family and a pen pal named Connie, who later become his wife--and David's mother. David was inspired to write this book during the Covid lockdown in 2020 when he found a diary that recorded his father's homeward journey from Burma in 1946. He typed this up and shared it with a dozen or so family members and close friends. Feedback was such that they all wanted to know more! And there was a lot more! Five hundred letters had been found in his mother's loft in 2011. Although he had already done some preliminary work on these, the lockdown provided time to do it right. Captain Tom was also an inspiration. He was born in the same year as David's father. He served in the 14th Army and was in the major battle of Arakan, that preceded Imphal. A film ‘Captain Tom's War' was shown on ITV on VE Day and again in February 2021 as it had been his wish that this part of history should be remembered. It was after this latter showing that David decided that his father's story should get as wide a publication as possible and not just be kept for family and friends. My Road to Mandalay is the result. What makes this war story different is that it's not about blood and guts – it's the real-life story of a soldier who served in the 14th ‘Forgotten Army' from start to finish and played a far more critical role in the re-take of Burma than his family ever envisaged, combined with amazing first-hand accounts of the battles that took place that provide a decidedly human aspect to the war. My road to success has been paved with many obstacles, and this my friends, has all been part of the process. When I used to think of a leader, I didn't see myself and neither did others! In 2022, my desire is to see more diverse women elevated into leadership roles and build a bigger sphere of influence in their industry, changing the idea of what leaders look like. In this interview we catch up with Cheryl Janis, CEO and Founder of Cheryl Janis Designs (www.cheryljanisdesigns.com) and she teaches healthcare entrepreneurs and Physicians of various specialties how to design their offices and turn them into deeply nurturing healing environments that keep patients delighted and referral business flourishing. Cheryl recently wrote a new book FOR DOCTORS as we like to say. "The Waiting Room Cure: The healthcare practitioner's guide to transform the waiting room into a nurturing and highly-profitable referral magnet." -- GRAB 4 FREE SAMPLE CHAPTERS NOW - http://cheryljanisdesigns.com/the-waiting-room-cure-book/ Through all of her books, courses and workshops, Cheryl teaches you a very easy and fun holistic and evidence-based approach to design—one that evaluates the patient/client experience from the moment they walk through your door until the time they leave, and every step in between. This patient-centered approach to design is so focused on the healing experience that patients themselves spontaneously spread the good word about their time spent at your private medical, dental, healthcare office or wellness business to family and friends and on social media. This happens so often that patients (and clients!) become your best marketing asset. She is the author of two healthcare design books: 1. The Color Cure: How to transform your healthcare office, clinic or treatment room into an oasis by choosing the perfect paint 2. The Waiting Room Cure: The healthcare practitioner's guide to transform the waiting room into a nurturing and highly-profitable referral magnet THE WAITING ROOM CURE BOOK, GRAB 4 FREE SAMPLE CHAPTERS NOW WHAT'S INSIDE THE BOOK & What You'll learn: Intro: What I Know for Certain + Studies show that patients associate waiting rooms with cozy furnishings and decor with higher quality of care. (p15) + When you choose to make your patients' first experience in your space an exceptional one, you'll find your business growing without having to invest in complicated advertising campaigns. (p14) + Why Baby Boomers and Millennials have an enormous influence on the design of your medical or healthcare office. (p16) Chapter 1: My Road to Healthcare Interior Design + How a car accident at age 17 (after I leaned over to kiss my boyfriend!) almost took my life and put me on my path to healthcare design. (p16) + My long road to recovery left me with an acute awareness of the patient experience. (p25) + How I was able to design offices with soothing colors, artwork that helped reduce pain and how you can, too. (p26) Chapter 2: Am I Safe Here? Establishing a Culture of Caring + Understanding how an outdated healthcare space can make your patients (and clients!) feel more anxious. (p36) + Empathy, highly sensitive people and how they affect your business. (p39) + A patient-centered design = less time lost to marketing plans, sleepless nights, and worries about how your business is going to thrive. MUDDY WATERS is an American Icon. The whole story of the blues can be heard, felt, and learned in his life. Country blues were Muddys roots and remained at his core, but through the force of his artistry he transformed them. With electricity, volume, the weaving of bass and guitar lines with piano, harmonica and drums, he created the ensemble sound and subsequently the template for future Rock and Pop groups including the Beatles and The Rolling Stones. His musics raw power and energy, plus his attitude and magnetismMuddy was the prototype for the iconic Rockn Roll starare still the major ingredients that inspire the popular music we listen to today. MUDDY WATERS?100 is a tribute album to Muddys music and legacy on the occasion of his 100th birthday. Produced by Grammy-nominated producer Larry Skoller, the album includes 15 newly recorded tracks featuring Muddy Waters Band alumni and many of todays most preeminent American blues and roots artists This WoodSongs Special Event Broadcast will be celebrating the music and legacy of Muddy Waters and feature two of the artists on this historic Grammy nominated release plus another legendary blues musician. Performing on this broadcast: JOHN PRIMER is recognized as one of todays most crucial keepers of the Chicago blues flame. He broke through playing with the great Willie Dixon, spent more than a decade alongside Magic Slim, and has released 15 albums of his own. In between Willie Dixon and Magic Slim, though, was the event that changed his life. Muddy Waters asked John to join his band, a gig which John faithfully remained with until Muddys death in 1983. John has since then felt a genuine responsibility to carry on Muddys legacyMuddys sound, his songs and his spirita responsibility that John takes very seriously. In fact, John handles most of the lead vocals and guitar playing on Muddy Waters 100. BOB MARGOLIN is a multi-award winning guitar player/songwriter/singer/producer. Inspired by Chuck Berry, he started playing guitar at age 15 and immediately started performing in local rock and blues bands. Margolin was hired by Muddy Waters in 1973 and toured the world and jammed with many great blues and rock musicians, “but the biggest thrill was playing Muddys Blues with him. Muddy brought Margolin with him to special shows and recordings including the Grammy Award-winning Muddy Waters Woodstock Album and The Bands Last Waltz concert. Since leaving Muddys band in 1980, Margolin started his own band, won several BMAs, produced albums for numerous artists including Muddys son Big Bill Morganfield, played on several Grammy-winning records, began a second career as a music writer, and produced and consulted on reissues of Muddy Waters recordings for the Blue Sky Label for Sony/Legacy. His latest solo release is My Road and appears as a special guest on Muddy Waters 100. PAUL OSCHER is an award-winning blues singer, songwriter, recording artist, and multi-instrumentalist, (harmonica, guitar, piano, melodica, and bass harp). He first came to national attention as Muddy Waters harmonica player from 1967-1972 following in the footsteps of Little Walter, Junior Wells,James Cotton, andBig Walter Horton. Paul was was the first white musician in the world to become a full-time member of a black blues band of this stature. Paul is currently in the process of writing a book about his lifes experience in the blues and has won multiple BMAs as a solo artists.
