"Welcome to the Nine Worlds, home of Gods, Valkyries, Dwarves, and more!" promises MacMillan Publishsers about the latest series by my guest; author and artist George O'Connor. George created the 12 volume series The Olympians and just released Thor in October 2024, the second book of his series The Asgardians. The first volume of The Asgardians series, Odin, was released in March 2024. We talk about his process for bringing the myths of these two popular pantheons as illustrated storytelling.  It was a fun and interesting discussion to hear about George's interest with the Norse stories and how they have been a part of his life for so long and still inspiring ways to be told.  And it's always nice to get a behind the scenes scoop on how ideas come about, the creative process, and other bits of writing and drawing a graphic novel about such interesting characters and adventures.    Both series' can be ordered through your local book store. Find out more about George's works at MacMillan Publishers.  Follow George on Instagram at @thegeorgeoconnor and on his website for his upcoming webcomic and events.   # # # Create your podcast today! #madeonzencastr Follow my channel on Instagram: @wyrdgifts1 Facebook: @GiftsoftheWyrd Email: giftsofthwyrd@gmail.com Order The Christmast Oracle Deck created by me and artist Vinnora at https://feniksshop.etsy.com follow FB/IG: @thechristmasoracle Please leave feedback on Apple and other podcast providers. “Odin and Mr. Moseby are friends! Other topics include disappointing art choices, Hearthstone being a top-tier spell slinger, DJ winning the ship war, Amir's story getting wildly dark, Schrödinger's joke, a disappointing portrayal of a Celtic warrior queen, interesting accent choices for talking swords, speculation about exactly why Annabeth would tell Magnus to leave Jack at Hotel Valhalla, a brief detour into trying to figure out the timeline of the books and various short stories, and the collection being pretty great overall. Muspelheim is a realm in Norse and Germanic mythology and is one of the Nine Worlds that make up the universe. It is located in the south and is often described as the world of fire. The name Muspelheim comes from the Old Norse words "mus" meaning "fire" and "pel" meaning "world". In Norse and germanic mythology, Muspelheim is the land of the fire giants and was created by the primordial being, Surtr, who was said to have a flaming sword that he used to ignite the world. The realm is inhabited by fire giants, who were known for their ferocity and violence. They were often depicted as enemies of the gods, particularly during the final battle of Ragnarok, where they were said to play a major role in the destruction of the world. Anglo-Saxon literature refers to the written works produced in England between the 5th and 11th centuries in the Old English language. It is a rich and diverse body of work that provides valuable insight into the culture, beliefs, and values of the Anglo-Saxons. There are just a few of the many books that are available for those interested in Anglo-Saxon literature and culture. Whether you are a student, researcher, or simply a reader, there is a wealth of information available to help you explore and understand the rich heritage of the Anglo-Saxons.

Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then talk about their favorite movies and television shows based on Greek mythology, as well as read Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapters 7 and 8. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:31) We're having a quarter-life crisis. But also: am baby. Not a ton of news this week, but that's okay because a lot has been happening recently! Becky told us where Rick first learned to scuba dive and what project he was working at the time. A lovely listener also sent us this article from 2001 detailing the experience. Then we debate the merits of snorkeling and whether sharks and puppies are the same thing. Did you read the Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality sneak peek? Next, we take some time to do the Nine Worlds quiz on air. Be sure to tell us what you got, too! Movies and TV based on Greek mythology (00:22:12) We had to expand this section to include television, AND THAT'S OKAY. Karen kicks us off with Hercules, even though she forgot it existed. Kristen is full of fun facts today, including a heartwarming story about Danny DeVito. We really love the songs in Hercules, and Hades is just so charismatic. Kristen switches tones with her first pick: Immortals. We might be in disagreement about how we feel about this movie, but we definitely agree the cast is stellar. Kristen is still mad Luke Evans wasn't nominated for Beauty and the Beast. We just HAD to include Xena: Warrior Princess. And Karen found out this show has some significant connections to a few other properties she loves. Most of this episode is just us convincing each other to watch things. Sorry, Karl Urban. At least you're a very handsome man. Next up: 300. Kristen has strong feelings about Zack Snyder. We take a little time to do some Gerard Butler appreciation. Karen wants everyone to know about Blood of Zeus, especially if you're a Percy Jackson fan. This one also has an interesting connection to Immortals! Animation for the win! Kristen picks Troy for her last movie, and Karen shares her viewing experience of the film. Shout-out to Air Force One. That Troy cast, though. Kristen sends Karen a very unsubtle message. Kristen's got some runners-up, but they're not all winners. There is room for some modern adaptations of Greek mythology, so let's go, Hollywood! Chapter Reviews (01:14:10) Okay, let's get ready for Titan's Curse chapter 7. Would Grover choose Artemis or Pan? Zoë is very intense. Does Mr. D actually care about the campers? Don't be embarrassed, Percy! Is Zoë a good leader? Why do all these sage older mentors never share pertinent information!? Not going on this quest is…kind of a good thing? Is Sally's support of Percy's journey realistic? Does she have ulterior motives? Prophecy Count: 14 Luke will definitely make more bad choices. What does Blackjack sound like, and who could voice him? Let's talk about Titan's Curse chapter 8 and all of Percy's bad decisions. Is Bessie cute even though she has a snake butt? We super do not trust Zoë just yet. Trying to manipulate a prophecy is not going to end in your favor. Making dangerous promises probably will not also end in your favor. We're so glad Blackjack is an active part of this story now. Feedback (01:47:22) What is your preferred episode length? Henry linked us to the Production Weekly page about Disney+'s Percy Jackson and the Olympians‘ start and end dates. Who'd be the best god at editing podcasts? Thank you for the lovely email, Caoimhe! Should we do a Harry Potter/Percy Jackson crossover episode? Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next time for episode 26, where we'll have some fun Aru Shah things for you. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. With its branches in the heavens and its roots in the underworld, the World Tree is a common feature of religions and mythologies around the globe. Stories of such trees have been recorded in the Americas, Asia, India, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe — and while the species and specifics may vary from place to place, one thing almost always holds true: the Cosmic Tree is central to the structure of the universe. The sacred Heathen Yggdrasil — says E. O. James in his classic archaeological study The Tree of Life (1966) — is perhaps “the World tree par excellence”. A giant ash tree described in both the Poetic Edda and Snorri Sturluson's 13th-century Prose Edda, Yggdrasil stands at the absolute center of the Heathen cosmos. Its roots connect it with the Nine Worlds, and it is tended by the three Norns Urðr, Verðandi, and Skuld (powerful female figures who roughly correspond to the three Fates of Greece)

It’s not every week that I take a look at the more common myths and cultures around the world - I feel at times there’s not much I can add to those topics. However, while looking for this week’s topic I came across a familiar, yet distant topic, Jormungand, or the world serpent. While I couldn’t find a great deal of information on the world serpent itself, it did lead me down the rabbit hole of Norse mythology, specifically the relationship between Jormungand and Thor, the Nine Worlds, and the World Tree. The inherent relationship between all of these different aspects is something that’s truly fascinating. The world tree, Yggdrasil is such an important concept, yet very little is actually known about its significance in the grand scheme of things. We know it has a relationship to Midgard (the visible world), Asgard (home of the gods), and Jotunheim (home of the giants), but how the other six worlds sit in relation is unknown. There have been theories, poems, and stories told about all of these, but there wasn’t a lot of written history during the time of these beliefs, which makes it all the more interesting. The Norse culture and mythology is so vast that it would need an entirely dedicated podcast to cover it all, but hopefully you enjoy this quick rundown of some of the things I found of particular interest. From Thor and Jormungand, to the prose Edda, there’s so much to discover, and if you want to know just a little bit more, you’ll have to listen to the cast!If you would like to donate to the show, you can, and I would forever be grateful.https://supporter.acast.com/Ominous-Origins-1Our sponsor: www.morbidlybeautiful.comMerch: www.redbubble.com/people/HorrorShotsYouTube: Horror ShotsTwitch: www.twitch.tv/muskyfauxWebsite: www.horrorshots.comInstagram: ominousoriginspodTwitter: @horrorshotsprodFacebook: HorrorshotsPatreon: www.patreon.com/horrorshotsCredit: Music: https://www.purple-planet.comSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/Ominous-Origins-1. We discuss the wide range of what cosplay offers, how our identities as queer people influences our cosplay and how being LGBT can also help us reclaim characters in the name of representation.
