I AM The Light of the World John. 8:12 (NIV) When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. FIRST PROMISE, His followers will never walk in darkness, 2 Corinthians 4:7 (TLB) But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. On Sunday, July 7, 2024, VLC gathered in person and also broadcasted online via YouTube. Pastor Stuart Nice shared a message about when Jesus was invited to eat at a Pharisee's house and he chose to not wash his hands, which led to a teaching opportunity. Just as Jesus surprised the people at the dinner, he also uses everyday situations to surprise us and lead us into teachable moments. He then got to the heart by using straightforward language with them. Likewise, Jesus desires that we grow in uprightness and lovingkindness and will speak directly to our hearts to bring the necessary changes to our lives. Lastly, religious practices are designed to draw our hearts back to God through faith, and as such, spiritual practices are a gateway to freedom not an obligation to be bound to.Luke 11:37-42 (NIV) When Jesus had finished speaking, a Pharisee invited him to eat with him; so he went in and reclined at the table. But the Pharisee was surprised when he noticed that Jesus did not first wash before the meal.Then the Lord said to him, “Now then, you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. You foolish people! Did not the one who made the outside make the inside also? On Easter Sunday, April 7, 2024, VLC gathered in person and also broadcast online via YouTube. Gio Serrato shared an encouraging message from the story of Jesus' interaction with Zacchaeus. We learned that Jesus sees us with love and compassion and desires to be a part of our lives. Jesus invited himself over to Zacchaeus' house and was welcomed warmly and with a commitment from Zacchaeus to make restitution to those he had wronged. The invitation to us is to consider what we can offer Jesus as we allow him to come into our lives. What amazes God? Luke 7:1-10 (NIV) // When Jesus had finished saying all this to the people who were listening, he entered Capernaum. 2 There a centurion's servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die. 3 The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. 4 When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, “This man deserves to have you do this, 5 because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.” 6 So Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: “Lord, don't trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. 7 That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. 8 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,' and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,' and he does it.” 9 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.” 10 Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well. Demonic possession is where an evil spirit takes over the thoughts, actions, and decision-making of a human. It happens but is rare. "Surrender," in Hebrew, means "to align or arrange oneself under the command of a divine viewpoint." You literally turn away from the offerings of the world, the opinions of others, and your own strategies for achieving life and instead choose to stand under God's divine viewpoint. When we cling to other things, believing they will satisfy our souls, we put something between us and God—actually, we put something in front of Him. The Believer's Authority – by Ian September “Authority exercised with humility and obedience accepted with delight, are the very lines along which our spirits live.” – C.S. Lewis Good evening church in the North. I have it on high authority that what you will hear and apply will change your life forever, guaranteed! Because it is (Not only information or revelation but in the application). How do I apply this knowledge in my life? I would like to make a statement by saying that our only hope to reach the lost and change this world one heart at a time, is when we as Christians understand, claim and exercise our authority in Christ. Please note church, that one of the many reasons why people do not grow and mature; overcome and conquer and live victorious lives, can be found in our ignorance to this topic! Did you know that exercising your authority in Christ is faith in action? God's word is clear that, faith without action is dead and without faith it's impossible to please God. (Do you see this chain-reaction?) Heb. 11:6 Listen to: Colossians 1:13 (NIV) – For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. The Word of God says that we have been delivered from the power (authority, control and dominion) of darkness and are placed into God's kingdom. So please realize today that Satan has no power over you as a child of God; the only power that the enemy has over you, is what you allow him to have. Take note church that the day that you gave your life to Christ, the day you accepted Him, you were given a new life but also authority and faith, to believe that you're a child of the Most High! John 1:12 (NIV) – Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God (Believe this Church!) Aan almal ….. Luke 10:19 (NIV) – I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. The Word of God says that you're not only called to be a child of God, but also to reign and rule in this life; for you are more than an overcomer, because you have the power, might and ability to do so. Amen! You are armed and dangerous! You see, when we fully understand this principle we will be able to proclaim boldly: Philippians 4:13 (NIV) – I can do everything through him who gives me strength. I have His ability, strength and authority to do all things! King David understood this so well, when he said: “For by my God, I can run through a troop and by my God I can jump over a wall.” Psalms 18:29 (NIV) – With your help I can advance against a troop with my God I can scale a wall. Matthew 28:18-19 (NIV) – 18Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. (Therefore because of verse 18 that all power and authority belongs to Jesus). Understand that a transferal of authority took place. The authority that was given to Christ was transferred to us as believers! Amen?! Mark 16:17 (NIV) – And these signs will accompany those who believe in my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues. Also re-emphasizes the fact that His authority was given to all believers. (Power & authority) Because of His authority in us we can command (just as He did) for authority doesn't beg or ask, it commands (Imagine a cop begging you to pull over!) We can therefore safely say that authority is exercised through the spoken Word! Proverbs 18:21a (Well known) “Life and death is in the power of the tongue.” We will find many examples where Jesus cast out demons using His authority and speaking life over people, healing the sick and even raising the dead! Luke 7:14b – “I say to you, arise!” - Command John 5:8 – “Pick up your mat and walk!” – Command Mark 1:25 – Jesus commanded the evil spirit to leave; this same authoritative power (authority) was given to us as well. Luke 9:1 (NIV) – When Jesus had called the twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases. It is also important to know church that we can only act under His authority before we can utilize (exercise) our authority. The Roman centurion in Luke 7:2-9 (NIV) – 2There a centurion's servant whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die. 3The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. 4When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, “This man deserves to have you do this, 5because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.” 6So Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: “Lord, don't trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. 7That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word and my servant will be healed. 8For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me, I tell this one, ‘Go' and he goes; and that one, ‘Come' and he comes, I say to my servant, ‘Do this,' and he does it.” 9When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him he said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.” Verse 8 he said: I recognize and understand authority, I submit to it and I exercise it... you don't have to come to my house, Lord, but just say the Word! He understood authority and so should we! This evening I would like to share with you just 5 pointers or reasons why we as believers do not walk in our God-given authority. Sin: The primary reason for many not to reign and rule in this life! When we habitually sin, we give Satan legal right over us until we confess our sins to God and repent! Take note church that wilful, habitual sin will prevent you from claiming and exercising your authority in Christ! Jy moet dit glo … Ignorance: Hosea 4:6 – “My people are destroyed by a lack of knowledge.” Many of us are ignorant to our authority (Ek het nie geweet nie!) Unbelief: Hebrews 3:12 says that to have unbelief is to sin! (We do not really believe that we have the power!) Fear: Luke 12:48 (well known) with authority comes responsibility! Many people do not want to embrace authority because of the responsibility attached to it. Prayerlessness: Ephesians 6:18 encourages us to pray at all times on every occasion, for when I'm prayerful I am sinless! But when I'm prayerless, I'm sinful! When we spend time before God in prayer you will come to the clear understanding of who you are in Christ, and the authoritive power you have in Him. Amen? I would like to conclude this evening by saying: “It is not what you say you believe, but what you do with what you say, you believe!” May God through His Holy Spirit challenge our hearts and make us realize who exactly we are in Christ and the authority vested in us by Christ Himself, so that we can rule and reign in this life. 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV) – But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.

I read just one verse in today's episode, but what a powerful promise is found in that verse! It's Ephesians 3:12 (NLT). Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God's presence. The New International Version says that “we may approach God with freedom and confidence.” What a beautiful word picture of the posture and the attitude you and I can have when we enter the throne room and come near to God. Do you have any idea what a privilege we've been given? Those of us who have put our faith in Jesus Christ have the freedom to boldly and confidently approach the King of kings. We don't have to make an appointment. We don't have to wait until we have a crisis. No concern is too big or too small to carry into God's presence. We can approach God anytime for any reason because of Jesus and our faith in him. We would not be wise to approach God with arrogance, but neither should we cower in his presence. Never allow guilt, shame or regret stop you from boldly and confidently approaching God. You have been given the freedom to come as you are. In Hebrews Chapter 10, we learn that “since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body” we are welcome to “draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings.” (NIV) When Jesus died on the cross, the curtain that separated the Holy Place in the Temple from the Most Holy Place, was torn in two, opening the way to approach the throne of God. The Ark of the Covenant, which was kept behind the curtain was considered the mercy seat of God—his earthly throne, so to speak. The Bible tells us that the curtain concealing God's presence was torn in two from top to bottom. Not only that, the curtain was way too thick for human hands to tear. God himself reached down and tore the curtain that separated us from him. Christ's broken body is like that torn curtain. Jesus is the doorway not only to eternal life, but also to intimate communion with God right here, right now. Because of Christ and our faith in him, we may approach God with freedom and confidence. Hebrews 10:22-23 says, “Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” (NIV) If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you are welcome to freely approach God, and when you are in the presence of the King of kings, everything is possible! Have you noticed there always seems to be something to get angry about! The news cycle reports one outrageous thing after another. It may be inflation, unemployment numbers, the way people react to Covid, acts of racism or the latest political flap. We should stop calling it the "news cycle" and just call it the "outrage cycle." What we really need, are the words of Jesus. He told us how to have a blessed life. His Sermon on the Mount begins with sayings called the Beatitudes. This week, our focus will be on the Beatitude recorded in Matthew 5:5, which reads, "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth." (NIV) When Jesus spoke this Beatitude, he may have based it on Psalm 37. That Psalm is a contrast between the righteous and evil doers. More specifically, it urges us not to get bent out of shape at those who do wrong. Our focus should be on trusting God and doing what is right, rather than on being anger or envious at those doing evil. Verses 10 and 11 echo the Beatitude. Positives: -Make it simple, Keep it simple -Make it accessible and achievable to all. (anyone can have this. Anyone can do this). -Not religious, or trying to build the ‘wow' factor of the teacher. -Reproduce it. “The proof is in the pudding”. -Loves to find a way of taking complex truths and making them simple. Take complex truth, work it, see it, dream it, squeeze it, and let one simple drop of easily receivable truth drop out the bottom. Take it and then serve it hot with an illustration! eg. Jesus with parables. Trinity: St Patrick of Ireland and the 3 leaf clover, Today : H2O (water) in 3 forms etc. -sees in stories, analogies, rhythms and seasons of learning. -No 'secret teaching'. Give it all. Lay it all out for anyone. Needs attention: -Don't blame the people when they don't ‘get it'. Own this problem myself, and help solve it. ( -patience - see where people are getting stuck and don't get annoyed. Instead, find the ‘knowledge gap' and fill it. OT example: Moses - 10 commandments- Proverbs 1:1 TPT Here are kingdom revelations, words to live by, and words of wisdom given to empower you to reign in life, written as proverbs by Israel's King Solomon, David's son. -Proverbs contains thirty-one chapters, each comprised of twenty to thirty-five wise sayings that are each two poetic lines long = > at least 600 teachings in one small book Proverbs 9:9 TPT Teach a wise man what is right and he'll grow even wiser. Instruct the lovers of God and they'll learn even more. Reaching Those Who Are Lost In an Ungodly Culture Luke 19:1-4 (NIV)“Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see Him, since Jesus was coming that way.” 1. Don't assume someone doesn't want to know who Jesus really is. “He wanted to see who Jesus was.” 2. You cannot assess if someone is worthy of meeting Jesus. Luke 19:5-6 (NIV)“When Jesus reached the spot, He looked up and said to him, ‘Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.' So he came down at once and welcomed Him gladly.” Verse 7“All the people saw this and began to mutter, ‘He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.'” 3. Toward the Lord and what He has for you or toward drama and what the enemy would have you focus on? How can you help foster friendships with healthy and Godly people? 2. Have you ever been in a situation where God gave you something different than what you were asking, but looking back you realize it was for your good? What did you learn from that? How can you apply that to future situations? 3. Do you have opposition in your life right now? How might God be using it to position you for what He has as your next assignment?

On one day Jesus meets 5 possible disciples. -John (the author of Gospel of John) -Andrew (the optimism) -Simon Peter (the flawed leader) -Philip (the truth-teller) -Nathaniel (Bartholomew) (the honest, passionate guy) -Nathanael’s honesty 'catches fire' …And it catches God’s attention and 1. Nathanael and Philip loved the Word of God and all its promises for them John 1:43-45 (NIV) The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.” Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida. You will see greater things than that. He then added, “Very truly I tell you, you will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.” (The last sentence is plural - “YOU ALL will see and experience …”) -Jesus referring to Jacob’s experience in Genesis 28:12 Genesis 28:12 (NKJV) Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. Difference is: 1. Promise to Jacob was singular. To disciples was all inclusive! 2. Promise to Jacob - ladder is on the earth. The universe is so big! We can seem so insignificant in light of the physical size we are in comparison to what is out there. There are times when I wonder if God is even listening to my prayers. My little life here seems to really not matter when thinking about the overwhelming size of the universe. John 1:47-51 (NIV) "When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.” “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.” Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.” Jesus said, “You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.” He then added, “Very truly I tell you, you will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.”" I believe, like Nathanael, God knows us and hears us!

Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Genesis 1:1-4 (NIV) In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 1 John 1:5 (AMP) This is the message [of God’s promised revelation] which we have heard from Him and now announce to you, that God is Light [He is holy, His message is truthful, He is perfect in righteousness], and in Him there is no darkness at all [no sin, no wickedness, no imperfection] John 8:12 (NIV) When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. A light has dawned and it is up to us follow it out of the darkness and into the future God has for us. Matthew 16:18 (KJV) The Church is the only organization that exists for it's non-members. A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Mark 2:1-12 (NIV) Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. Mark 2:1-12 (NIV) When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that? We keep Jesus the main thing. …When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. Corinthians 2:1-2 (NIV) For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 1 Corinthians 2:1-2 (NIV) A Church in the FIGHT… is committed to removing the OBSTACLES. And so my judgment is that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. Acts 15:19 (NLT) Too many people aren't being reached, because too many Christians are sacrificing their potential effectiveness on the altar of tradition. A Church in the FIGHT… moves with URGENCY. Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach. This made the Pharisees and teachers of religious law complain that he was associating with such sinful people—even eating with them! Luke 15:1-7 (NLT) So Jesus told them this story: “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won't he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it?” Luke 15:1-7 (NLT) “And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.'” Luke 15:1-7 (NLT) “In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven't strayed away!” Luke 15:1-7 (NLT) You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd.(John 8:4-5) (NLT) “Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of adultery. The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?” Until we see ourselves as sinners we will not see our need for a Savior. 2. His love reveals His grace.(John 8:6)(NLT) They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger.(John 8:7)(NLT) They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!”(John 8:9)(NLT) When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman.(John 8:10)(NLT) Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn't even one of them condemn you?”(John 8:11)(NIV) “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. The language of the dark speaks death, the language of the light speaks life. (Luke 8:11)(NIV) “Go now and leave your life of sin.”3. Title of Message: The Searching (Luke 19:1-2) (NIV) Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. (Luke 19:3-4) (NIV) He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. (Luke 19:5-6) (NIV) When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. (Luke 19:7) (NIV) All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.” The searching: 1. Have a past they're not proud of. 2. Have a desire for something significant. (Luke 19:8) (NIV) Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” (Luke 19:9-10) (NIV) Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” When the searching find Jesus they find: 1. The future they hoped for. (Jeremiah 29:11) (MSG) “…I'll show up and take care of you as I promised and bring you back home. I know what I'm doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.” 2. The significance they longed for. (Luke 19:6) (NKJV) So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully.
