Fonti: Artribune.com; ippodromisnai.it; blog.urbanfile.org; mindmilano.it; AXA IM Alts; Hines.

Together with American Songwriter, we had the pleasure of interviewing BAD CHILD over Zoom video! After five years of writing, recording, and performing around the world, the Canadian artist known as BAD CHILD presents his comprehensive debut album Free Trial today via Capitol Records stateside along with 21 Entertainment and Universal Music Canada and Virgin Records in the UK. Listen to Free Trial HERE.Free Trial examines the distorted experience of creating human connection online and acknowledges the challenges that come with navigating emotional concepts through your phone. A concept album structured to feel like a satirical dating app, Free Trial is narrated by voice over clips that guide the listener through the phases of the record like phases of a relationship. The 19-track album features previously released songs and six brand new tracks including “$1,000,000.”Reflecting back on the album now, BAD CHILD puts the music into perspective and honors his early creative process, “I started writing ‘Free Trial’ as a reaction to how I saw people using each other in love and in business, especially online. Almost as if they were Free Trials. I felt a coldness and disconnect from those around me after the trauma I had experienced. This album to a degree was the beginning of my journey trying to understand myself. It’s neurotic and childish in some ways and extremely adult and empty in others. Five years of time passed while making this. I started when I was 18, I remember the summer was colored by Frank Ocean’s ‘Blonde.’ I’ve turned into an adult since then. I’m turning 24 next month. This album in a lot of ways is my coming of age. I listen back to it and I feel like I’m listening to an experiment come alive. Its disregard for genre and technique makes me excited for the next chapters in this project. I feel like I’ve knocked down a barrier of my identity. At the end of the day when you hear this record, you’re starting your Free Trial of me.” Digging deeper into the tracks, BAD CHILD notes the importance of each song as building blocks that shaped his sound but also helped him to understand his early experiences of love, loss, intimacy, and anger. “The first song I ever wrote ‘BAD CHILD’ its auto filtered guitar and drum machine. I remember feeling free when I sang about my trauma and when people reacted to me saying it helped them, I knew I had to write more. Songs like ‘Rouge’ dive into the intimacy of becoming an adult and how love is violent and delicate. ‘Royalty’ is a song I want to scare people, it’s about wanting too much and becoming enveloped in greed. It’s very angry and NIN inspired it heavily.” Over the past three years, BAD CHILD has quietly been gathering momentum as an artist. In the summer of 2019, he released his thematic debut EP Sign Up. His song “Candy,” featuring Ryan Chambers, was included on the soundtrack for the highly publicized Netflix film, To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You. BAD CHILD spent the last year reflecting on the music that shaped him; releasing a COVERS EP that included his own interpretations on songs by Harry Styles, Bill Withers and Soundgarden. As well, he flexed the production side of his artistry, experimenting with new sounds and instruments on his own tracks and collaborations.BAD CHILD’s eccentric music and unique vision landed him on the festival circuit last summer playing some of the world’s most prestigious line ups including Lollapalooza, Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds and Osheaga. Earlier this year, BAD CHILD was gearing up to join grandson and NoMBe as support for concerts across North America.  Both tours have been postponed in light of the global situation. We want to hear from you! Together with American Songwriter and Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing Inspired & the Sleep over Zoom video! Max Green is an East LA songwriter/producer that keeps all sorts of busy in town currently with 4 main projects: Experimental Indie Pop live band, Inspired & the Sleep, a solo pop endeavour as a topliner and songwriter as Max Green, and lastly two LoFi projects: braj mahal & URCHN.For Inspired & the Sleep, we just put out an EP on friday called 'Reimagine' that features a handful of revamped/recreated versions of a few songs off of our self titled LP in a wintery semi-acoustic vibe. This record release also announces that we will be releasing a limited run of multi-colored Vinyl alongside LA based label Vinyl Moon (whose released NoMbe, Sego, Mating Ritual). Album Vinyl Preorder: https://vinylmoon.co/collections/shop-all/products/inspired-the-sleep-s-t-lp-vm-edition-ltd-to-100These songs are a landmark of the projects development over the last few years for songwriter/producer Max Greenhalgh and multi-instrumentalist Bryce Outcault. The record was started right at the time of Greenhalgh's move from San Diego to East LA. The record was conceived in bedrooms, practice spaces, and studios over the course of two years and summarizes the projects artistic development from its origins as a Lo-Fi bedroom project. The record is chalk full of lush instrumentation, unique syncopation, clever sampling in the form of 11 pop gems.Bio:Inspired & the Sleep is the Los Angeles-via-San Diego based musical project of songwriter/producer Max Greenhalgh and multi-instrumentalist Bryce Outcault. With a revolving lineup of additional players, Greenhalgh and Outcault produce pop arrangements that are at once warmly familiar and sweetly off-kilter. Incorporating traditional indie-rock instrumentation with various electronic elements and vinyl sampling, the pop-rock outfit perpetually reinvents their sound while staying true to their groove-oriented backbone. Greenhalgh’s gentle crooning on matters of intimacy, introspection and love — both lost and found — solidifies the project’s pop ethos over an ever-shifting sonic backdrop. We want to hear from you! Chasing dreams will make us do crazy things, but like Jimi Hendrix said, "You have to go on and be crazy. Craziness is like heaven." For NoMBe, there was simply no other option. Growing up in Germany, he lived in a true melting pot of cultures. His father, a German artist-manager, and mother, a world-renowned model from Brooklyn. But, it was music that really touched NoMBe's soul when he first was introduced to piano, and encouraged to let his imagination run wild. As his path continued, with aspirations to be a producer, he would find himself dedicating every possible moment to crafting beats, inventing sounds, and creating musical landscapes that would soon become the foundation of his artistry. However, there's always "that" moment where life presents to us the person we could be vs. the person we should be; and if we're not careful, we can easily miss it. For NoMBe, that moment came from an audition flyer stuck to the bottom of a shoe. That flyer would soon give him the opportunity to step out from behind the scenes, look into the face of his potential, and catapult his journey of "coming to America". But, it's truly when the American Dream becomes the beautiful struggle that the songs can now be written, and the artist is born. This is a powerful story of self-discovery, persistence, love and grit, Young Hearts and California Girls. Ladies, Gentlemen, and Freaks; this is NoMBe. #MamaWeMadeIt CONNECT!@nombemusic@mamawemadeit @anoushmoin@getrauschymamawemadeit.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

THE FOOD SEEN

On today's THE FOOD SEEN, Nick Balla, co-chef of Bar Tartine in San Francisco, used to call everything pickles. Raised in Michigan, land of sour cherries and asparagus, Nick was draw to strong and sour flavors, even eating lemons as a child. But it was his Hungarian heritage and it's distinctly different European cuisine that became a central inspiration in Nick's life. Budapest is set right in the middle of spice trading routes, has been populated by nomads, and it's food gave a new meaning to “fusion”. Raw onions and paprika allured Nick's palate, but then an unanticipated Japanese pantry crept in. This is when Nick began breaking the rules of how he approached cooking, taking a heavy interest in umami and fermentation (e.g. aged cheeses, koji, and bottarga).
