A Taste of Evil (1971), Snowbeast (1977), This House Possessed (1981) We're back on the small screen for our fourth dive into the world of made-for-TV horror—which should tell you something: we love these things. Maybe it's nostalgia from growing up in an era when you couldn't stream whatever you wanted, whenever you wanted. Or maybe it's because some of these films were just plain good—tight, creepy little stories that managed to leave a mark. This time around, we're not talking about the crown jewels of the genre, but rather three solid, middle-of-the-pack entries: well-made, weirdly memorable, and wildly watchable. You've got disturbed minds, ski lodge mayhem, and a haunted house that's a little too into you. If the stories don't grab you, the casts just might. Films mentioned in this episode: 1941 (1979), Abominable (2006), Alien (1979), Amityville Horror (1979), Asylum (1972), Beetlejuice (1988), Beyond the Door (1974), Blazing Saddles (1974), Butcher Baker, Nightmare Maker (1981), City of the Dead (1960), City Slickers (1991), The Curse of Frankenstein (1957), Don't be Afraid of the Dark (1973), Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981), Devil Dog: Hound of Hell (1978), The Devil's Daughter (1973), Double Indemnity (1944), Drag Me to Hell (2009), Duel (1971), Frankenstein: The True Story (1973), Halloween (1978), House by the Cemetery (1981), House that Wouldn't Die (1970), Horror of Dracula (1958), I, Desire (1982), The Dirty Dozen (1967), Jaws (1975), A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), Night of the Creeps (1986), The Night Stalker (1972), The Night Walker (1964), Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973), Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (1987), Psycho (1960), Re-Animator (1985), Salem's Lot (1979), Satan's School for Girls (1973), Scream of Fear (1961), Shriek of the Mutilated (1974), Snowbeast (1977), Strange and Deadly Occurrence (1974), Suspiria (1977), A Taste of Evil (1971), Three Stooges Meet Hercules (1962), This House of Possessed (1981), The Tingler (1959), Trilogy of Terror (1975), Videodrome (1983)

“You're in acting class and you're studying Chekov or ‘Waiting for Godot' -- and then you end up doing 80s tits-and-a**… You caught on pretty quick what it was about and where the power lay.” -- Actress Heather ThomasWhat was it like to be an 80s poster icon and sex symbol? Susan and Sharon welcome The Fall Guy star and “80s Poster Lady” Heather Thomas. She's an actor, writer and activist -- but may be best known for her “Pink Bikini” poster, one of the best-selling pin-up posters of all time. Heather Thomas had leading roles in television shows like BJ and the Bear, The Love Boat and TJ Hooker -- as well as the movie Zapped! with Scott Baio, Willie Aames and Felice Schachter. But her most famous role was playing stuntwoman Jody Banks on the hit 80s television series The Fall Guy. Running for five seasons on ABC, The Fall Guy spawned board games, posters, a video game -- and just last year, a major feature film starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt -- and Heather Thomas! Since her days as a TV star and pin-up queen, Heather Thomas has gone on to an extraordinary career as a novelist, political activist, organizer and fund-raiser. NOTE: This episode was recorded Dec. 2024, before the LA Fires. Our thoughts are with Heather and her family, and all those impacted by the fires. Stay safe. Be well. THE CONVERSATIONWORKING WITH MONKEYS: Clyde, the orangutan from Every Which Way But Loose, was her co-star once: “He thought it was funny to keep grabbing my boob. I thought he was gonna rip it off!” And a stint on BJ and the Bear led to producer Glen Larsen tapping her for the co-starring role in The Fall Guy. WORKING WITH TV PRODUCERS: “All of them are crazy. You're not gonna find any normal ones, not in those days. Everyone was nuts. And they still are.”"Smile more": Early on, the ABC network executives were afraid that Heather Thomas wasn't likable. So they put her in a bikini. “I guess that made up for me not smiling enough.” STUNT WORK: “Lee Majors almost broke my nose once.” "I was good on rollerskates!"In preparation for a Fall Guy episode, Heather trained with the Los Angeles Thunderbirds roller-derby team: “They showed me how to ‘break my back' on the rail -- it was really fun!”Ted Lange -- Isaac, the bartender on The Love Boat -- was one of Heather's favorite directors on the Fall Guy.A GOOD DIRECTOR: For Heather, it was someone who brought her into the filmmaking process. For Lee Majors -- it was anyone who got him home by 5:00pm! THE POSTER: Once the show was a hit, a poster was the next big step: “It outsold Farrah Fawcett. I bought a house. I was thrilled.”DIS-LIKENESS: Heather's image has been hi-jacked and used for everything from lighters, to puzzles, to notebook covers -- to a pillow!ON HAVING A FAMOUS BODY: “My body was my living. That's how I saw it. So I had to feed it, exercise it -- I couldn't have an ounce of cellulite. It was part of the gig. But I didn't care, I was grateful. I was making more money than I ever had in my life. I was a kid.”ZAPPED! -- Teen sex comedy -- or sexual harassment? “They tried to get me topless, but my contract said uh-uh! So, they used a body double. There's a big disclaimer at the end of the movie saying that it's not my tits.”Activism: “Ever since they said, ‘You can't climb the tree, the boys can' -- I was a feminist.”So join Susan and Sharon -- and Heather -- as they talk fly-fishing, Star Wars, David Letterman,Teen Beat, Shaun Cassidy & Parker Stevenson, “Gabor-lore”, Cliff Robertson's toupeé, organizing your phone by decade, not complying in advance -- and canoeing with Henry Winkler!AUDIO-OGRAPHYFind Heather Thomas on Twitter at Twitter.com/HeatherThomasAF And find Heather Thomas on BlueSky at HeatherThomasAF.bsky.social Watch Heather Thomas in The Fall Guy on Peacock, Amazon Prime or Flixfling!Check DontGetPurged.org to make sure your name has not been purged from voter rolls!Find out more about CREW at CitizensForEthics.orgVITAL READINGGet Handbook for A Post-Roe America by Robin Marty at Bookshop.org.Check out Men In Dark Times by Hannah Ahrendt at Bookshop.org.Read Democracy Awakening by Heather Cox Richardson at Bookshop.org.You can also follow Richardson's substack.SUPPORT FOR THE LA FIRESOnline at DisasterAssistance.gov On the FEMA App for mobile devices or Call the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-3362Calls are accepted every day from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. PST.More resources at Eaton Canyon Community Relief.Google List of LA County Resources. That I set the curve in my accounting classes at the University of Wyoming. How I gamed the system to get cash because I knew the checks I was writing would take 8 days to process. How little money I had when I quit my museum job to start my business. How I came up with the income accelerator for artists, which I teach in The Money Plan success workshop and Create Opportunities. ⭐️ ABOUT The Bottom Line by Evolved Finance The Bottom Line by Evolved Finance explores the financial journeys of some of the most successful educators, thought leaders, influencers, and service providers in the online space.

In this episode we talk about This House Possessed from 1981. Originally released on ABC on Friday, February 6th, 1981, This House Possessed stars Parker Stevenson, Shelley Smith, Slim Pickens, Joan Bennett and Lisa Eilbacher. ................................................................................................................................................ On today's episode of the podcast I chat with Parker Stevenson, co-owner and Chief Business Officer of Evolved Finance, a bookkeeping business for online business owners. To hear Parker's previous episode, check out Episode 130 - Your Tax Write-Off and Bookkeeping Questions Answered Look for a bookkeeping service that focuses on online business owners and knows the ins-and-outs of online business and can work with you to help keep you profitable. If you focus on building your profit you can get paid easier, you can focus on stabilizing the business, you can have cash to invest back into the business without going into debt, and more. If your books aren't accurate and timely, you will have a difficult time being able to track this growth and be more profitable. It's Parker's passion to help business owners see the importance of tracking where your money is coming from, where it's going, and what's left over. To give an example, the computer game Roller Coaster Tycoon shows you the revenue and profit per hour and seeing which rides are the most profitable so you know which rides to put more of in your park. When you start to understand the numbers, you start to understand the story behind your business. For example, our labor costs are this much, where your money is coming from, what you had to do to get it , and therefore understanding the clarity of what is generating most of your profit. Not paying attention to these numbers is like getting a car with no dashboard. You can drive it, but you won't know if you're speeding, how much gas you have, and you will incur additional costs in speeding tickets, towing fees if you run out of gas, time if you are always at the gas station filling up to be cautious, etc. You need tools and resources as a small business, especially if you don't have the CFO, CTO, etc. roles that large businesses do. When onboarding a new client, Parker looks to review and clean up past books if needed to get caught up before starting your first month's books. When working with a new bookkeeper, they may move around your expenses to be efficient, the same way you would move around supplies in a new kitchen to make it run efficiently for you to cook. The biggest areas of improvement Parker experiences are; 1) from an expense standpoint, the only things he really sees break a business are labor costs and ad budgets. You don't want labor costs going up at the same rate as revenue, you want to stay profitable 2) the way you position and package your offer has huge implications on the rest of your business expenses. How do we charge the appropriate price to deliver the quality level of service we want to offer our client without having to price it so high no one wants to work with you and maintain that quality as you scale. From looking at so many P&Ls over the years, Parker has found it's better for your revenue and your profitability to get better at selling more of less things. You want one main offer to market around. Ask yourself, what are you charging for your offer, how much support are you providing around your offer - it's either not priced right or the support around it is not priced appropriately. For service providers, you can't offer an $8,000 service at a $4,000 price point. You either need to up the price or edit the service offered. In order to raise your price you'll need updated work product to show and there can be an increase in expenses to keep in mind surrounding raising your price. Ex-Surfer and shirtless hunk Rick struggles with whether to continue on doing the thing he's too old for but loves or to not have sex with the 17 year old. See what I did there? Welcome to the Baywatch Prequel. I mean seriously, this is just Baywatch right or the other way around? The story follows Mitch, I mean Rick, who is now 32 and still a beach bum lifeguard. So he has to make a choice: enter the suit-and-tie world of schmucks or keep on guarding and facing ridicule from society. Along the way, he takes on a new trainee (Parker Stevenson - yup THAT Parker Stevenson) who is attending college in the fall (possibly law school?), gets himself into a school girl crush/statutory rape situation, hooks up with an ex who is way out of his league and loses a lifeguard decathlon because he's getting too old for this shit. All this while sprinkled with various lifeguard activities that will one day become plot lines for entire episodes of Baywatch. This kinda sounds like a good time, doesn't it? Well its not. Lifeguard manages to deliver each of its elements with one over-arching characteristic: tedium. If its not Rick you want to slap, its someone else on screen for being near him. Maybe I just have a problem with the Peter Pan plot, but I don't want to get behind any cry-baby who doesn't want to grow up because then it means taking responsibilities for your actions. While Rick waddles from one bad decision to another, his support group just keeps encouraging his bad decision-making. So you find yourself having a real hard time getting behind anyone in the film. Fortunately, Rick did get his act together and had a lovely child with Wendy, changed his name to Mitch and raised Hobie to be a lifeguard like his old man. It was just a different show and we have David Hasselhoff to thank for fixing this mess.
Tread Perilously's Grab Bag month concludes with a return to Baywatch for "We Need A Vacation." When Craig complains about splitting his time between being a lifeguard, a lawyer, and a husband, John D. Cort suggests going to Mexico for a quick vacation. As it happens, he's already planning to take Eddie there to teach him some surfing. Instead of surf and relaxation, they end up in the mythical Mexico that only exists in film and television. Meanwhile, Hobie gets the hots for Shauni, but Mitch Buchanan is too busy dealing with Captain Thorpe's marital troubles to notice. Will Mitch ever take an interest in his son? Justin and Erik are thrilled to return to the Ballad of John D. Cort, even if he's more douchebag than good guy this time around. Hobie proves to be more emotionally mature than Eddie, but his storyline still ends up in the hot seat. Erika Eleniak's qualities as a TV presence are examined. Justin suggests the notion of a biblically-accurate Saruman. Day and night once again fail to have meaning. Erik suggests the episode may be a backdoor pilot for a new series for John Allen Nelson, Parker Stevenson, and Billy Warlock. Also, the love affair with John Allen Nelson continues.

“It's just learning how to balance things as entrepreneurs, again, we want some that just give me an easy answer. But so much of being an entrepreneur is making decisions. And if we have good data and the right visibility into that data, then these decisions start to at least become a little easier to make.” - Parker StevensonWelcome to the Marketing To Millions Podcast, I'm your host, Liz Boer! In this episode, Parker Stevenson discusses the relevance of budgeting in not only maintaining the business, but also leveling it up. Sometimes, business owners feel trapped and unsure of the next step, but by properly analyzing the data, the next steps to take can become much clearer and feasible.Parker is a managing partner and the Chief Business Officer at Evolved Finance; a bookkeeping firm that specializes in helping online entrepreneurs to build more profitable and financially stable online businesses. Put your socks on, pour a fresh cup of coffee and tune into this conversation with Parker Stevenson. If you're a service provider who wants to make more and work less, today's episode is for you! It's not that we're comparing one business model against the other, but rather, we're considering an informed perspective on the 1:1 and 1:many approaches to business.Scaling as fast as you can is always preferable. But delivering the best service you can, rather than offering absolutely everything, is far more achievable within a 1:1 model than a 1:many. Producing a great experience is more important than having a marketing strategy, because there's no more powerful tool than word of mouth and referral! Thank you for listening!
