In 1997, scientists at Brookhaven National Laboratory found a small leak of radioactive water near their research reactor. Brookhaven was--and is--a world-class, Nobel Prize-winning lab, and its reactor was the cornerstone of US materials science and one of the world's finest research facilities. The leak, harmless to health, came from a storage pool rather than the reactor. But its discovery triggered a media and political firestorm that resulted in the reactor's shutdown, and even attempts to close the entire laboratory. A quarter century later, the episode reveals the dynamics of today's controversies in which fears and the dismissal of science disrupt serious discussion and research of vital issues such as vaccines, climate change, and toxic chemicals. This story has all the elements of a thriller, with vivid characters and dramatic twists and turns. Key players include congressmen and scientists; journalists and university presidents; actors, supermodels, and anti-nuclear activists, all interacting and teaming up in surprising ways. The authors, each with insider knowledge of and access to confidential documents and the key players, reveal how a fact of no health significance could be portrayed as a Chernobyl-like disaster. The Leak: Politics, Activists, and Loss of Trust at Brookhaven National Laboratory (MIT Press, 2022) reveals the gaps between scientists, politicians, media, and the public that have only gotten more dangerous since 1997. Peter Bond is a retired physicist who worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory for 43 years in a wide variety of roles, including interim laboratory director during much of the period covered by this book. Today we welcomed Peter Bond onto our show to discuss his book "The Book On Steroids." We asked Peter about what the research says on steroid use in terms of side effects, doses, and other topics. Peter covered a few different steroids such as Primobolan and Trenbolone along with of course testosterone, discussing the studies involving doses and duration. There was also a discussion on diuretic use and a few other good ones that made the time go by quickly. Peter's book is available at bookonsteroids.com www. theexcellencecartel.com

My guest for this episode is Peter Bond. Peter is a late bloomer. Starting out as a self-described trumpet meathead with poor playing habits, no one would have predicted his career as a renowned classical musician. His 28 year run with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra gave him the opportunity to play alongside some of the trumpet world's greatest talents and support opera's legendary performers. And with his book "The Singing Trumpet" Peter hopes to ease the way for trumpeters of every style to find their unique voice. Check out what Peter has to say about humor as a survival mechanism, making changes, things he will miss about The Met, his unorthodox approach, the difference between singing and blowing, how traditional pedagogy limits expressive potential, how the vocal model helps you play in the upper register, a book of ideas, the limitations of received wisdom, the difference between comfort and correctness, playing catch up, being surrounded by greatness, what makes the Met Orchestra so unique, the influence of vocalist, and so much more. So pour yourself a big glass, pull up a chair, and let the hang begin! —-------------------------------------------------------------- Peter Bond's book "The Singing Trumpet": https://www.carlfischer.com/txt14-the-singing-trumpet.html Sound like a million bucks without breaking the bank with Barkley Microphones: http://barkleymic.com/ Let Vennture Mouthpieces help you on your search for the perfect mouthpiece. Vokale musste man kaufen.

In our times, we are so connected in every technological way but so disconnected in any inter-personal way. Today, there is a desire in men for authentic, manly, Godly relationships with authentic friends. The bridge that often helps make that happen is having a cigar over a campfire or in a cigar shop. Peter Bond is the founder of Regina Cigars and he and Bear talk about authentic male friendship. As GK Chesteron said, “The pint, the pipe and the cross go well together”.

There are a few artists that really push the boundaries of their art, raise the bar, and take us to new places! Liona Boyd is one of those people! Truly the "First Lady Of Guitar" she has been one of the "A" list classical guitar artists for many years (having studied with Andres Segovia, Eli Kassner, Narciso Yepes, Alirio Diaz and Julian Bream) but she has gone much further. Starting with her breakthrough album "Persona" and continuing even today, Liona has gone beyond the traditional classical guitar repertoire and has explored a mixture of Rock, New Age and classical with such noted artists as Yo-Yo Ma, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Chet Atkins, Al DiMeola, Steve Morse, and Roger Whittaker, taking her guitar playing into a multitude of directions. Today, she keeps going further, now also singing and songwriting, giving us a wealth of new repertoire for the guitar! We talk to Liona about her guitar playing, her beautiful tone, the guitars in her life and take a look at some of her music! We also will be talking to her producer, Peter Bond, about recording Liona and explore the creative process between these two brilliant artists!

Peter Bond has been playing trumpet for the Metropolitan Opera (New York) since its inception in 1883. Since then, the Met has grown to become the largest classical music organization in America, and is unarguably one of America's national artistic treasures. We prodded Pete for his accumulated wisdom from the past 133 years, and more importantly, found out who his favorite superhero is. Bet you won't guess it! ...also this interview barely happened: as we were finishing up the Monster Round, an NYPD cop comes over and tells us "hey, you can't film here without a permit." You might not believe us, but all four of us shouted in unison "YEAH WHATEVER MAN WE WERE ALREADY DONE SO TOO BAD FOR YOU, GOTTA BE QUICKER THAN THAT" and kicked over a trash can and ran away. It was so rad
