In the first month of the new Trump Administration, much of the attention outside our borders has focused on Europe and the Middle East—the two regions that always seem to divert our focus from America's greatest competitor, the People's Republic of China (PRC). Lieutenant General George Flynn describes how his friend and former boss General Gray, the 29th Commandant, transformed the US Marine Corps' warfighting, ethos and capabilities. General Alfred Mason Gray Jnr (1928–2024) was not the most obvious choice to lead the US Marine Corps when he became its 29th Commandant in 1987, but he succeeded in transforming the Corps into one of the world's premier fighting forces. He moved the Corps' culture and ethos towards one that prioritised manoeuvre warfare, in which all Marines became warfighters first and foremost. His changes included new processes and equipment, but were primarily focused on the human – a conceptual transformation as much as it was a transformation of capabilities. He embraced the indirect approach from Basil Liddell Hart (Season 2 Episode 10) and John Boyd (Season 1 Episode 7), as well as William Lind's thinking on dislocating adversary decision-making that was so effective in the 1991 Gulf War, yet he situated these inside the Marine Corps' traditions and values. Lieutenant General George Flynn (retd) served in the US Marine Corps for 38 years, including as General Gray's aide in 1989–1991, as Chief of Staff at Special Operations Command and as Deputy Commander Multinational Corps Iraq, and created the Joint Force Development Directorate at the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Now on the Board of Regents at the Potomac Institute, he is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Robert J. Peters is a Senior Fellow for Nuclear Deterrence and Missile Defense, The Heritage Foundation. He was previously the Chief within the Strategic Integration Directorate of the Strategic Trends and Effects Department (STED) at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. STED's mission is to generate timely, credible, and actionable insights into threats within the counter-WMD and counter-emerging threat mission space and to assess the effectiveness of Agency efforts to support the Joint Warfighter. STED also sponsors a strategic dialogues program with allies and partners, table top exercises, and a number of research efforts. Prior to joining DTRA, Mr. Peters served as a Senior Research Fellow at National Defense University's Center for the Study of Weapons of Mass Destruction.From March-November 2009, Mr. Peters was detailed to the Office of the Secretary of Defense-Policy as SpecialAssistant to the DASD for Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction. A former jihadist, he has been a keynote speaker at intelligence summits in Washington, DC, and elsewhere. He has discussed jihadism with senators and members of Congress and has lectured at conferences on the topic and at several universities. He has appeared on ABC News, CNN, Fox News, and the BBC, and he has published analyses in the Hudson Institute, the Jerusalem Post, the National Review, the New York Daily News, and the Wall Street Journal, among others. He lives in Northern Virginia.

He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Mississippi with a BA and MA in history where his graduate thesis examined the impact of popular culture, inter-service rivalry, civil-military relations, strategic planning, and defense unification on the "Revolt of the Admirals" of 1949.Mr. Beasley received his JD from the University of Mississippi School of Law, where he served on the editorial board of the Mississippi Law Journal. Prior to joining Phelps Dunbar, Mr. Beasley worked as a research consultant with the Potomac Institute in Arlington, Virginia. He is a member of the Center for International Maritime Security (CIMSEC) and his work on maritime history and security has appeared in Proceedings, The Strategy Bridge, and USNI Blog.

Thoma, licensed clinical psychologist and assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UNM, manages a growing functional brain imaging research group and participates in all phases of mental illness neuroimaging research. Lewine was a director’s fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he worked on the development of magnetoencephalography (MEG), a new method for studying brain function. He recently joined MRN and is interested in diagnosing the “invisible” wounds of war and in evaluating and treating developmental disorders. Stanley, assistant professor of security studies, Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service and the Department of Government, created mindfulness-based Mind Fitness Training to build warrior resilience and optimize individual and team performance. Spitaletta, U.S. Marine Corps major, U.S. Joint Forces Command and Joint Reserve Directorate, also holds a civilian position with the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. His academic research focuses on the effect of intolerance for uncertainty on working memory capacity and executive brain function. Giordano is director, Center for Neurotechnology Studies at the Potomac Institute, senior research associate, Wellcome Centre for Neuroethics, fellow, Harris Manchester College at the University of Oxford, and affiliate professor of molecular neuroscience, Krasnow Institute for Advanced Studies, George Mason University.
