En 2020, Vannina a envoyé un message sur notre compte insta pour nous signaler une erreur dans les épisodes Loups (avec Jean-Michel Bertrand) à propos du Dhole (canidé sauvage d'Asie). Devant sa grande passion, son impressionnante érudition et son indéfectible rigueur, nous avons proposé à Vannina d'écrire des articles sur les canidés sauvages, ce qu'elle a fait avec beaucoup d'application pendant un an. En tout, Vannina détient le record d'articles écrits par des bénévoles sur notre site (après Marc) : plus d'une vingtaine. Elle a formé une partie de l'actuelle rédaction de BSG … à 22 ans. Ce premier épisode du second cycle est consacré : au Chien viverrin (Tanuki, Raccoon dog), le seul canidé qui hiberne. ce "Chien Raton-laveur" a été introduit en Europe pour la production de fourrure. Certains individus relâchés ou échappés sont à l'origine de de populations invasives aujourd'hui. à l'Otocyon, le seul canidé presque entièrement insectivore, ultra spécialisé dans les termites. Ce 4e épisode présente les chacals d'Afrique: Le Loup d'Abyssinie (Canis simensis), le 3e canidé le plus rare au monde (après le Loup rouge et le Renard de Darwin). Il en reste autour de 500 sur les hauts plateaux éthiopiens. Ils chassent en bonne harmonie autour des troupes des Geladas, des singes qui leur rabattent involontairement des rongeurs. Le chacal à flancs rayés (Canis adustus), d'Afrique de l'Ouest et du centre. Le chacal à dos noir dit à chabraque (Canis mesomelas), vivant plutôt en Afrique australe ; Le loup doré africain (Canis lupaster), présent surtout en Afrique du Nord. Et aussi celui inféodé à l'Eurasie, le Chacal doré, canis aureus, qui arrive jusqu'en France !
