Kay portrays this harrowing story in her short film  Mother in the Mist, which has appeared in numerous film festivals including the Cannes Film Festival and San Diego International Film Festival. On the pod, she details how she brought the story to the screen, and the ideas of American individualism and Chinese collectivism that are behind the film. Carol of the Bells (2019) 1h 40min | Drama | 19 October 2019 (USA) A young man with a troubled past seeks out his biological mother. His world is turned upside down upon discovering that she is developmentally disabled. WATCH the TRAILER A crew of 70% individuals with developmental disabilities recently produced Inclusion Films’ first feature length film, Carol of the Bells, directed by Joey Travolta. Fresh from earning the Audience Favorite Feature award at the San Diego International Film Festival in October - Carol of the Bells will release in multiple cities in December. Travolta teaches filmmaking to individuals with developmental disabilities at 6 partner studios across California via Inclusion Films. Carol of the Bells was produced in association with Futures Explored, Inc. and Options for All. “Carol of the Bells” was the world's first feature film production, where up to 70% of the crew had a developmental disability. Under the network and resources of Inclusion Films, this film was made within two weeks in Bakersfield, California. Synopsis: A young father battles his past to find peace with his wife and son. Scott Johnson has always struggled with his secret adoption, and his life-changing moment as a child at Christmas time. Now, Scott has the answer to his greatest fear. Can he take the final step to bridge the truth about his first family and heal his wounds? Director/Producer Joey Travolta shared “Carol of the Bells is a beautiful story by itself, but the way it was made is even more beautiful. Working with a crew where 70% are developmentally different offers insight into just how much they bring to the table when offered the opportunity. Having the opportunity is the key. Inclusion Films has a mission of inclusion - to train people with different abilities in the art of filmmaking. The soft skills learned in the training program can then be applied to other jobs and all aspects of their life.” When asked what drives his passion for inclusion, Travolta shared “My father raised us in an environment of inclusivity. Family was important, kindness was important, everyone was equal and everyone was welcome. That’s what first led me to being a special education educator. Partnering that passion for equality with filmmaking has become my life’s work. I want everyone to have that sense of belonging when they are trained by us, come to our camps or work with us on a film. That sense of belonging brought out the best in everyone - and allowed for an environment for this talented diverse team to create an award winning feature film. No small feat. I’m looking forward to sharing their work on Carol of the Bells and helping to create a shift in employment opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities.”

Helping to spotlight Hollywood's reckoning in the wake of the #MeToo movement, actor, producer and gifted entrepreneur Adam Ambruso stars and holds a producer credit in the Sony Pictures award-winning film, BUTTERFLY CAUGHT, which made its debut and won ‘Best Ensemble Film' at the 2017 San Diego International Film Festival and will make it highly-anticipated theatre release summer 2018. BUTTERFLY CAUGHT trailer Written and directed by Manny Rodriguez Jr., the film follows three bright-eyed women with dreams of making it big as actresses. Each is pushed past breaking points when they're tempted with promises of fame and will be forced to decide how far they're willing to go to become actresses. BUTTERFLY CAUGHT explores the dark underbelly of glitzy Hollywood and illustrates with deafening power, how the cut-throat industry makes victims of naïve newcomers. Touching on drugs, sexual advances, and make-or-break career decisions, the film's artful take paints an all too real portrait of Hollywood's deepest secrets. Drawn to projects that passionately move audiences, Ambruso also recently starred in and executive produced Will Wallace's thrilling drama, TRAFFICKED. Starring alongside Ashley Judd and written by a Harvard professor who wrote a book about human trafficking, TRAFFICKED explicitly details the story of three young women who are abducted and thrust into the vicious underworld of sex trafficking. TRAFFICKED made it's premiere in 2017 and found the perfect balance to portray the horrifying truth of sex slavery while also not pushing the audience beyond its limits. Adam also appeared in the drama RUNNING WILD opposite Sharon Stone, Tommy Flanagan, and Jason Lewis and the Syfy original horror-sci-fi film ATOMIC SHARK. Originally from Austin, Texas, Adam graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and has since made deep roots in Los Angeles, and while not on-set has also balanced a career as a successful entrepreneur; building properties and dabbling in investment real estate. Adam is also a strong health advocate and maintains a rigid fitness routine complete with Bruce Lee ab workouts.

Today we’re talking about the market crash of 2008 and what we can do to safeguard ourselves from something like this happening again in the future.   There are a lot of people, up until this day, that will still shudder when you mention 2008 because they had such a traumatic experience when the crash took place. Regulations had weakened significantly and homes were being sold to people that really couldn't afford them. Those people were getting to the point where they could not pay back their debt to the banks, which created a domino effect that ultimately created the collapse. The market will always have its ups and downs, so it's important that we know what action steps we can take to avoid losing it all as so many people did just a decade ago. Financial Consultant Extraordinaire, Cheri Blair, joins me today to talk about what we should have learned from the market crash of 2008 and how we can protect ourselves from something like this in the future. She has three action steps that we can start applying in our lives today to stay aware of what's going on in the economy and how it can affect us financially. I'm also joined by Tonya Mantooth, CEO and Artistic Director of the San Diego International Film Festival. She shares how the film festival is bringing international cinema to San Diego, spotlighting filmmakers that are taking on important global topics, and connecting people through empathy and their commonalities rather than their differences.   We Discuss: Dealing with the disruption of both good and bad change in our lives The plethora of situations that can often erupt after we experience a traumatic event The Market Crash of 2008 - what happened and what exactly set it into motion How we can best protect ourselves and avoid a situation like this in the future Powerful action steps that can be used as a defensive strategy against substantial risk The importance of financial literacy and staying informed on what's going on in the economy The impact that the San Diego International Film Festival is creating surrounding community   For the full show notes visit: www.ChangeItUpRadio.com
