We premiere the title track, ‘Miwonowi', a tribal-soaked house groove that lends inspiration from Chicago and his hometown of India. New Delhi-based Sanil Sudan aka FILM is the latest debutant on Hammer's Remmah imprint. His ‘Miwonowi' EP features three original tracks imbued with the restless & irresistible grooves of classic Boo Williams productions, overlaid with the same star-gazing cosmic energy that unites all Remmah releases. Complimenting the four original tracks is a remix from DART, of the Remmah extended family's Dublin branch, which zeroes in on the baseline and adds a whole extra layer of extra bounce to the ounce. We premiere ‘Miwonowi', a fusion of ancient and contemporary elements, combining the primal energy of tribal and indigenous with the power and grit of modern house and techno. Syncopated tribal grooves play off Detroit-licked chords and sweeping drones to devastating effect.

This episode explores a most unusual resource for a jazz-shaped life: the Psalms of Israel. Jeff Kellam asks Bill Carter about this connection and how it shaped a set of thirty new jazz compositions. Sadness, yearning, joy, ecstasy are all deep emotions which find expression in music. Drawing on his "psalms without words" project, Bill explains how those feelings emerge in jazz.Music: "Psalm 116” field recording, Stornoway, UK; “Haunted Landscape,” “Liars,” “Iona Morning,” "Everybody Dance,” from Psalms Without Words, all composed by Bill Carter and recorded by Bill Carter and the Presbybop Quartet. We premiere some new acid-submerged techno, as n_o returns to his Manual Smiles imprint. ‘Definitely One Of The Songs' is a heads-down churning acid groove that pays homage to mid-00s rolling Berghain-affiliated cuts, while also extending an arm towards contemporary sci-fi focussed Aussie drifting prog house. n_o returns to his own Manual Smiles label with two percussive acid tracks alongside a 303-infused piano house remix by Azo. The label is pushing a club-focused tribal acid, trance and prog-infused sound that falls under the blanket term of techno. The label has seen support from the likes of Jennifer Cardini, Roman Fluegel, Job Jobse, I.Jordan, HAAi and Priori. “I try and make music that could equally be found in distant spaceships, as well as deep in the vaults of forgotten temples. Manual Smiles is a home for this kind of sound, psychedelic music rooted in the past but with sights set on the future. So happy to have Azo on board for this one, her analog acid tracks are incredible, and her version on the EP adds a fantastic extra dimension” ' – n_o. We premiere a murky acid groove from n_o as he keeps things locked and rolling on this one, using smokey production techniques to create a blurred acid techno cut that belongs to cavernous Berlin-based dancefloors. Syncopated percussion lays across the face of hard-laced low-end power and teeth-grinding acid synth lines. n_o -------------------- SC: https://soundcloud.com/manualsmiles IG: https://www.instagram.com/n_o__manualsmiles/ Four Four Magazine --------------------------- FB: www.facebook.com/FOURFOURDANCE/ IG: www.instagram.com/fourfourmagazine/ Web: www.fourfourmag.com/
They've always been musical alchemists -- melding worlds and traditions together, taking on the big questions, and crafting bold musical narratives. On greatly-acclaimed previous albums like Guesthouse and Line of Light, they've created poetic anthems addressing mortality, embracing our shared humanity, and, of course, longing for love. And they've done it while fusing everything from roots-Americana to psychedelic rock to Mexican folk traditions. And yet somehow, the new album by David Wax Museum sees the band achieving a whole new level of depth and dimension, of scope and scale. Fittingly enough, it's called You Must Change Your Life. Suz Slezak and David Wax are the creative couple at the heart of Charlottesville, Virginia's David Wax Musuem. Their heartfelt, deeply personal approach to songcraft is matched by a sound that's all their own, and by a wildly inventive, boisterous live show. They've been building a hardcore fanbase over their nine albums and countless miles on the road. Mid-2023 saw the release of what they call their "magnum opus" -- a Latin term that literally means "great work", and which in the ancient world of alchemy signifies transformation and transcendence. They describe You Must Change Your Life as "an openhearted manifesto -- a collection that embodies, then transcends bedrock elements of the band's 15-year career." David Wax Museum fans can rejoice that their magnum opus is finally out in the world, just released in spring 2023 via Nine Mile Records. And they can also be glad that David Wax himself is here to savour the moment, too; as he and Suz will tell us, an unexpected and terrifying health concern interceded in the band's journey, just as they were on the verge of this album's triumphant release. Suz and David joined us for a heartfelt conversation from their barn/studio in Charlottesville, Virginia, to talk about how they became a band, then a couple, and eventually a family; and how their creative journey has led from Harvard University to folk music studies in Mexico, from what seemed like a never-ending tour, to their backyard barn, and eventually to the syncopated truths conveyed on this truly transformative album. To paraphrase the chorus from the song ‘Luanne', this new record is a shape shifter and a fate twister; constructing a colourful, multi-layered dream world which speaks to both the most earthly and the most ineffable sides of our human existence. As David sings in ‘Summer Wrapped in Gold': "My heart still beats to that syncopated truth.” Producer: Scott Zielsdorf | Host: Grant Stovel | Graphics: Shaun Friesen | Music: Doug Hoyer
Smoke filled rooms with lights aglow, tension and excitement filling the air as the night ahead is looming with promises of incredible moments. These types of moments play out all over the world time and time again and each time, they're exhilarating. No stranger to Delayed, as her expertise is wide ranging, from label founder, to DJ, to agency head and producer, it seems Laura BCR can and does everything incredibly well. Her production skills however are the ones that we'd like to highlight today as her newest release, ‘Human Behavior' is forthcoming on storied, Live at Robert Johnson. The four track EP is full to the brim with the aforementioned tension as Laura launches off strongly with a drum heavy A1, Farewell. The percussion twisting and curling around swelling pads like alarms in the distance. Continuing the theme of the release, Post Dynamic gives space as the growls and synths stretch mightily over the entirety of the track, propped up by the same steady percussion and bubbly accents. The title track Human Behavior, a collaboration with Columbian based Launaea, contains all of the delightful tribal accents and has an energy about it that is propelling you onwards, farther into the deep. To round out the EP, we arrive at our premiere for today, ‘Long Wait'. Syncopated percussion and ear-worm like synths are surrounded in an embrace by soft pads for the duration. Like a nice come down from the highs of before. Long Wait, and in turn Human Behavior will be out on Live at Robert Johnson, the 28th of April. write up by https://soundcloud.com/huedj https://soundcloud.com/laurabcr https://soundcloud.com/live-at-robert-johnson https://www.instagram.com/laura___bcr/ https://www.instagram.com/liveatrobertjohnson/ www.itsdelayed.com www.instagram.com/_____delayed/ www.facebook.com/itsdelayed

We've got some trance fuelled driving techno from one of Ireland's finest producers, Snakebite 616. The Dublin based DJ & producer dips his toes in a eurphoric mayhem while still holding onto raw and honest techno power. Snakebite 616, formerly known as Nathan Jones has been on a war path since switching to a new alias, and received a heap of success. His track ‘Right Of Passage' released on the newly born ‘Ogham Records' is ageing like a fine wine, as we run further away from the release date, the track seems to be garnering even more applause. Receiving support from DJ's all through Ireland & Europe, and has been an absolute staple in any set I was lucky enough to play last year. Syncopated Records have had a similarly strong beginning with their label, as they approach their first year anniversary they present a new EP from Dublin mainstay Snakebite 616. Two strong VA's and an EP from Modēm show a pedigree for high quality techno tools. ‘Finding Light' represents the reflection of pain and suffering and how it is somehow intertwined with appreciating the love that surrounds us and the beautiful moments in life. A Dublin take on Copenhagen techno from Nathan Jones is a juggernaut of an offering from the label. With over 10 years of professional experience in some of New York's top restaurants, I am grounded in a strong foundation from which I love to break away whenever possible. Along with graduating at the top of my class from both The Culinary Institute of America and Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration, I spent time in the kitchens of Balaboosta – where I am currently the Executive Chef. I had the privilege of competing on Food Network's first-ever plant-based cooking competition hosted by Tabitha Brown. Syncopated Records welcomes Glasgow groove master Modēm to their new and refreshing imprint that has been focussing on minimalistic & groove focussed techno cuts. The six track EP is a fine collection of deep and rolling techno rhythms, built upon original tracks from Outflight boss Modēm as well as a collection of remixes, and a collaboration with Germa. Modēm serves a powerful EP packed full of raw, driving, percussive and minimalistic groovy tracks. This release consists of three original tracks as well as remixes from Danny Wabitt, Marcelo Antonio, Mikrotakt. Modēm & Germa serve up a chilling piece of hypnotic goodness as they team up on ‘ORRO'. Jeff Mill's style syncopated bleeps are the star of the show here, whirling and gripping atmosphere with acute metallic hits, make the repetitive synth line so contagious. Rolling low end and tactile percussive grooves facilitate the rhythmic entity off the main sequence, and capture a thrilling and glossy atmosphere. This is hypnotic techno done properly.

Today we premiere a track from promising Irish techno producer, Jack Jennings as he features on newly born Irish techno label Syncopated Records. Jack has contributed a deep and winding club tool, as the youngster leans on rolling low end that's matched with meandering synth lines and hazy atmospheres. Syncopated made their mark on Irish techno earlier this year, as they burst out the rafters with a commanding 10 track debut various artist release. The label now stretches its legs for their second release, and yet again another 10 track VA release comprised of rhythmic techno grooves. The second release entitled Liminality is defined as the quality of ambiguity or disorientation that occurs in the middle stage of a rite of passage, when participants no longer hold their pre-ritual status but have not yet begun the transition to the status they will hold when the rite is complete. Jack Jennings has been busy in the studio and is proving to be one of the most auspicious young techno producers that Ireland has to offer right now. With releases on Delinquent Delivery, Gobsmacked Records, Modem Records and more, the young producer is building up an impressive back catalogue. Jack's contribution to Syncopated Records second release, show's Jack at his best, as his dabbles in detailed minimal sounds to great effect. Rolling low end and crisp percussion lay the foundation for an ethereal dance floor tool. Meticulous sound design and invigorating atmospheres, give the track a feverish energy. We've got some fresh new music from Fuinneamh Festival founder Lucas. The revered producer is known for his powerful and deep cuts, finding inspiration in dub chords, deep pads and textured atmospheres. His track ‘Cosmic Background' is an atmospheric trip through wandering chords and deep soundscapes. Luke Reddy aka ‘LUCAS has been producing electronic music and DJing since 2011. Luke's early years as an artist were not your run of the mill, first cutting his teeth performing at his own events which took place in the forest, open air events and raves, deep in the Wicklow mountains, these legendary parties became known as the ‘Keep Her Lit' series. Lucas disappeared somewhat off the DJ radar in 2015, when his ambitious plans for Fuinneamh Festival year one began, but with DJ sets in the summer of 2019 at EP, Body & Soul and at Fuinneamh we saw Lucas make a resurgence into the Irish DJ scene once again. Lucas founded a new record label ‘Ogma' in 2021 and it started with a E.P. with himself and Snakebite 616 the release received huge international and local support from the likes of Freddy K, Ed Davenport aka Inland, Elad Magdasi, Cici, Cailín, Mylo Spykers, Jon Hester, Taint, Aeron, Diarmaid O'Meara and more. The label will return for it's second release this summer. Lucas has provided a deep and driving techno masterpiece. This reminds me of some classic ‘Function' releases, but has Lucas's own spin on it. A big pounding kick plays of deep and whirling atmosphere, as drifting chords provide an entrancing kind of melody. This is a proper techno. Today we premiere a track from a new Irish techno label with a track coming from Dublin techno boss, Mode_1. Robbie Kavnagh aka Mode_1 has contributed deep and driving techno track with howling synth lines, pounding kick-drums and eery atmospheres throughout. This is not to miss from one of Dublins most consistent producers. Mode_1 has been busy in the studio, supplying a wealth of music within recent times. Mode_1's carefully crafted DJ tools lye in tangent with his well orchestrated DJ sets which have caught the attention of many through his time as a Subject resident, playing regularly in Dublin and on the festival circuit. Mode_1 produces clean and powerful peak time techno and his DJ sets would be best described as fast and trippy with a groove. The Dublin based selector has shared the stage with some of technos most formidable figures including; Ben Klock, Slam, Ben Sims, Dave Clarke, Paula Temple, Blawan and more. In the studio Mode_1 has been constructing well oiled techno records and releasing them on highly regraded techno imprints including; Naked Lunch Records, Knotweed Rec, Fiedeltwo, Truncate and more. Mode_1's track Recourse is classic rolling techno. Recourse is a tough, trippy and sinister. Shrieking synths take centre stage of the track as atmospheres swirl around the track. Pounding kick drums and gnarly percussion give the track a real peak time feel, yet it still feel's utterly spaced out. The is grat work from one of Dublins finest techno producers. Returning to Meanwhile after a stellar debut remix of Roger Martinez in December 2020, Paul Deep now comes to the label with his debut EP in the shape of the four-track “Deeper Dye”. A regular contributor to the electronic dance scene with his distinctive brand of underground house music, Paul Deep has seen his music featured on some of the finest modern imprints to grace the industry, including Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music, Nick Warren's The Sound Garden and Lee Burridge's All Day I Dream. The latter saw the sublime “Aeras” as part of “A Winter Sampler III” compilation in January 2021. Now making his full Meanwhile debut, “Deeper Dye” opens the EP with its powerful rhythmic framework of driving kick and shaker-fuelled percussion. Syncopated synth plucks add to the aural collage as deeply textured pads provide a new steam-powered layer. A chorus of synth phrasing enriches the story at the two-thirds point as the hypnotic combination of powerful bass and dance-friendly rhythm create tension in the second half. “Masha” continues the dynamic metrical narrative of the title track as muted musical layers filter into sonic range. Pausing for breath to introduce new arpeggiated sequences, the track builds elegantly across its 8-minute duration as each successive phrase brings another layer of intrigue before the final movement is introduced in a powerhouse of sonic seduction and compelling beauty. Giving the listener an impression of continuity, “Nina” provides the same cadenced percussion and chest-thumping kick, while a juxtaposition of lighter synth motifs creates an uplifting moment. Evolving effortlessly, a sustained pad and beautifully held chord swell across the stereo spectrum at a resplendent and stripped back breakdown before rhythm and bass find their mark once more in the final stages. Closing the EP, “Shura” creates a slightly lighter moment as a superbly hypnotic arpeggio meanders across the body of the near 8-minute piece, accompanied by richly textured pads and evolving melodic tapestry. Expertly pausing for breath at strategically based intervals, the track is further tied together by a reverb-laden hi-tom that sits perfectly amongst the multi-faceted and entwined synth motifs. Exposing a vivid and multi-coloured sonic palette, Paul Deep has created a transcendent quartet of tracks through his “Deeper Dye” EP. This is the audio from our video here: https://youtu.be/lEsnMNK6F68 Are you struggling for somewhere to sit in the mix? Are you and the other guitar player clashing sonically and/or harmonically? If so, young Daniel and I offer up these 10 ideas for you try when playing ‘rhythm’ guitar. As we have opined many times, ‘rhythm’ guitar is a bit of a catch-all term. To us they're just parts in songs, nevertheless this show isn’t about how to nail your Nile Rodgers funk chops, or achieve seamless synchronicity like Malcolm and Angus. Moreover it’s about some tonal suggestions that will bring interest and separation to parts in a song. We talk about volume, EQ, modulation and delay for the most part, to act as springboards for your own perfect dive into the music. Wow, that was cheesy. Welcome back to the Magician On Duty Podcast Series! On this week's edition, we welcome Pandhora :) Pandhora is the artistic and human symbiosis of two guitarists metamorphosed into producers who wish to bring sounds that occupied their thoughts back alive. Their music is an open sky laboratory where experimentation is the keyword. Syncopated rhythms and psychedelic melodies mix with powerful techno’s bass while strengthening by throbbing guitar riffs inspired by 70’s progressive and psychedelic music. Their productions claim to give to the audience an alternative to nowadays electronic dance music by introducing shape and lyricism to it. With Pandhora, we are travelling through time with a delighted elegance. They are always seeking for new sonorities and often invite other musicians to join them, whether they are vocalists or instrumentalists so they can create an original universe for each of their productions. Their latest EP «Divagations Cosmiques» released on french label Cepage Music is putting under the spotlights the jazzy voice of Lakmé, the former singer of Orme, a Neo-soul band from Marseille. Their new live act called «Deep Psychedelia» is a genuine condensed of all their experimentations. We are happy to welcome them to our family, and we hope you enjoy this episode as much as we do!
