Hi, Everyone. Carl Gould, here is your #70secondCEO, just over a minute of investment per day for a lifetime of results. There was a study done in 1974 by the Sloan School of Business, and they said, “What drives value in a business? And 95% of what drove value 40 and 50 years ago, was the TANGIBLES of the business, its physical assets. Well, let's fast forward to today. A follow-up on those 10,000 companies and the second part of the study showed that 72% of what drives value in business is its INTANGIBLES. Its intellectual property, it's brand equity, its brand promise. Toms shoes- is it the shoes? Or is it the fact that that company goes out, and for every pair of shoes you buy, they buy a second pair, and give it to an underprivileged child somewhere else in the world? Which one do you think it is? So stop falling in love with your product or service. Yes, you want your product to be impeccable. You want your service delivery to be outstanding. No question about it. Logistically, we want those things to run well. Understand though, people will pay more, they will pay more for the other aspects of working with you. Like and follow this podcast so you can learn more, my name is Carl Gould and this has been your #70secondCEO.

Beyond Food Franchises: Exploring Non-Food Opportunities While food franchises are undeniably our most popular category, franchising extends far beyond the realm of food. Over the years, we've featured numerous exceptional franchises in the service industry. These businesses, though often highly profitable, present unique marketing challenges. Our podcast begins with a discussion inspired by Dr. Martin J. McDermott's LinkedIn article, "You Had Me at Hello: The Power of the Follow-Up." This piece highlights the critical role of post-service communication in fostering customer loyalty. Using compelling anecdotes—like a dentist's thoughtful follow-up call or a repairman's check-in after servicing a refrigerator—Dr. McDermott underscores how small gestures can leave a lasting impact. He also introduces the RATER model (Reliability, Assurance, Tangibles, Empathy, Responsiveness) as a framework for assessing service quality, emphasizing how even brief interactions can strengthen customer relationships. Drawing from his expertise as a marketing professor and franchising authority, he concludes by celebrating the often-overlooked importance of a simple greeting and timely follow-up. Next, we sit down with Jon Ostenson, a consultant, entrepreneur, and author specializing in non-food franchising. As a former Inc. 500 Franchise President and multi-brand franchisee, Jon offers invaluable perspectives on this sector. We explore insights from his latest book, Non-Food Franchising: The Better Path to Franchise Ownership. Finally, in the second segment of the episode, we feature an excerpt from our celebrated podcast series, Great Quotes in Franchising.
Everyone has natural ways in which they take action. These are measured in four areas — Fact Finder, Follow Thru, Quick Start, and Implementor — called Kolbe Action Modes®. In this fourth and final episode of our Kolbe Action Mode series, Kolbe experts Stephanie Clergé, Eric Herrera, and Nicole Loucks break down the Implementor Action Mode and discuss the different strengths within it: envisioning, restoring, and demonstrating. Our Kolbe experts will take you through what it means to have these different Implementor strengths as they address common misconceptions, break down how to work with people across the Implementor spectrum, and explain how you can maximize your Implementor strength for more productivity, better communication, and improved collaboration. It's time to implement your instincts as you learn more about that yellow line in your Kolbe result! Hosts:

Becoming #1 in your field requires a measurable target. That's where benchmarking comes in… Hi everyone, Carl Gould here with your #70secondCEO. Just a little over a one minute investment every day for a lifetime of results. The tangibles are the numbers. That's the 28% of the value of your business, that's based on the numbers. What you do when you benchmark is to find out what are the industry averages in each of the areas of your financial statements and you're going to find out how you compare to everyone else in the industry because it gives you something to shoot for now, it gives you a target, you will know what it takes to become number one in your industry, whether that's your goal or not. You need to know who you're up against, what is the competition and how you can eliminate that competition, you need to understand it first before you can eliminate it. Now you have the intangibles or the people's side. Now you don't benchmark people, you benchmark the positions, you benchmark their jobs. What that means is you create the prototype for each position. So you go back to your discovery organizational chart, and you have your sales and your marketing and your assistants and your secretaries and your accountants and your bookkeepers and your receptionist and you benchmark what is the ideal for that particular position in your business. Like and follow this podcast so you can learn more. My name is Carl Gould and this has been your #70secondCEO.

Episode #11, A Fridge Full of Food but yet still Hungry is to show people the value of the Intangibles. Meaning the ingredients of a persons Inner Being such as Courage, Strength, Confidence, Joy, Peace, Love, Wisdom, Harmony, Integrity and Character just to name a few. Tangibles are great to have but without tapping into the Intangibles it will leave a person empty with a void Mentally, Emotionally and Spiritually. Thank you for Listening. Surviving a Disaster: The emotional toll that a disaster has on those who have experienced it will be different for each individual. The loss of tangibles such as material possessions may be evident but one may be unaware of the intangibles such as fear, loss of security, loss of identity, and spiritual crises.
