Part 5 To deny the deity of Jesus Christ is to be left with a question of paramount importance that demands an answer. If Jesus is not God, then who is He? The Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society have their answer to this question as do the Muslims and the New Agers. However, when one looks at the alternatives being offered, it becomes deplorable. Heretics think that by robbing Christ of His place in the Triune Godhead and stripping Him of His deity, they automatically disqualify themselves from needing to provide a rigorous argument for their claim. When one puts the question to Jehovah's Witnesses, “Who was Jesus Christ before coming to earth” the answer that they will give is Michael the Archangel. In the absence of any meaningful biblical support, we shall weigh this claim against a mountain of evidence to the contrary and demonstrate that Jesus is none other than God. Psalm 37:4-5: “Seek your HAPPINESS in the LORD, and He will give you your heart's desire. Give yourself to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will help you.” The love that God has for YOU is unconditional, He will never stop loving YOU. You are of infinite worth and value to Him, because He loves you. Just think about it - the greatest, the most powerful, the most important Person ADORES YOU. He prizes YOU as His most valuable treasure. You hold such value in His sight that He sent His most precious Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to the earth to die in your place, to pay for your sins, all for the purpose of bringing you back to Him, so He could manifest His love to you, as He longs to do. Our wonderful Heavenly Father desires a very CLOSE relationship with all His children. He is calling and leading each one of us into a closer love relationship with Him, and He wants us to seek our happiness in Him, rather than in things. Psalm 27:8: “When You said: “SEEK My FACE (Presence)”: My heart said to You: “Your FACE (Presence) Lord, I will SEEK.” “My heart has heard You say: “Come and talk with Me.” And my heart responds: “Lord, I am coming” (NLT). To SEEK is to crave and search earnestly, until the object of your desire has been found. None of us is perfect, or ever will be in this life. But even though you may be struggling with some things in your flesh, or soulish realm, do not cut your self off from worshiping God. Do not deprive God of the very thing Jesus suffered & died to give Him - your love, worship and your intimate fellowship with Him (John 4:21,23-24). God is prodigal in His love for us. Prodigal means excessive, plenty too much, over the top. The Parable of the Prodigal Son, is not so much about the son, who was prodigal in his sinning, but it is mostly about the father, who was prodigal in his great love for his sinning son. This is a picture of God's love for us. Luke 15:20: “He arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.” God longs to fellowship with us. When David cried out to the Lord (Ps 27:7), the Lord replied by saying: “SEEK My FACE” (v8). Ps 27:8: “When You (Lord) said: “Seek My Face (in prayer, require My Presence as your greatest need],” my heart said to You: “Your Face (Presence), O Lord, I will seek.” God is the all-sufficient One, so He can never be lonely. From eternity, there has been perfect love, unity & fellowship between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit – the Triune Godhead. God has NO NEEDS, but He has VERY STRONG DESIRES, such as His desire for our love. He loved us so much, that He sent His only begotten Son to die for us, and redeem us from our sins, and purchase us for Himself, so we might belong to God forever as His children (John 3:16). Ephesians 2:4-7: “God, who is rich in mercy, for His GREAT LOVE wherewith He LOVED US, even when we were dead in sins, has quickened us together with Christ (by grace are you saved), and has raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. So that, in the Ages to come (for all eternity) He might show (demonstrate) the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.” God is a Giver, not a Withholder! Seeing how much He loves us should make us want to worship Him. Isn't it breath-taking that we have the ability to bless such a loving Creator, the All-Sufficient One. How amazing that our love and worship can minister to God and give Him great pleasure! God has given us free will, so LOVING God is our CHOICE. He will never force us to love Him. WORSHIPING GOD is a CHOICE. God has placed within each one of us the ability to love, bless & minister to Him in return. But He will never force you to love Him. By giving us free-will, He has made Himself vulnerable to us. We can choose to love Him in return, or turn our back on Him, and break His heart. Hosea 11:3,8: “It was I who taught Israel how to walk, leading him along by the hand. But he does not know or even care that it was I who took care of him... Oh, how can I give you up Israel? How can I let you go? My heart is torn within Me, and my compassion overflows.” Will you break His heart by withholding your love from Him? Our loving worship BLESSES God immensely. It brings Him tremendous pleasure. He DELIGHTS in our worship. It brings Him JOY. If you knew what God really wanted from you, would you do it? Will you give Him your love? God LONGS for intimacy with us, more than we will ever understand in this life. He DESIRES sweet communion with us, more than we desire intimacy with Him. It is so amazing that Almighty God makes Himself available to us every moment of every day! We must EXPECT that He is giving us His undivided attention, when we come to worship Him. Hebrews 13:5: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

God is the designer of pure, intimate relationship. The character of the Triune Godhead reflects it, His closeness to Adam signifies it, the design of Eve reinforces it, and Jesus’ love for His bride, the Church, proves it. If close relationship is God’s character and design, let’s look at what He has to say about it! Key Verse - 'However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.' Jesus continues to teach his disciples after they have celebrated the Passover, and at this point they are on their way to the Mount of Olives. During this discourse, Jesus emphasize relationships within the Trinity and today he'll expand to include the relationship between the Triune Godhead and Christ's disciples. Jesus begins by saying that his disciples are the branches and that he is the vine; they will only grow and bear fruit if they remain in Christ. His disciples are to relate to one another in the love of Christ, remaining in that love. Remaining in Christ means that they will also be persecuted because of their association with him, for those who hate Christ also hate his followers and his Father who sent him. At the end of the chapter, Jesus begins to teach on the Holy Spirit, which will continue in chapter 16. :::Christian Standard Bible translation. All music written and produced by John Burgess Ross.Co-produced by the Christian Standard Biblefacebook.com/commuterbibleinstagram.com/commuter_bibletwitter.com/CommuterPodpatreon.com/commuterbibleadmin@commuterbible.org

Christian UnityEphesians 4:4-6In this passage Paul specifically teaches us more about that organic unity – the ‘bond of peace' that already exists among those who are truly his – those are are part of his kingdom through personal faith in Christ, having repented of their sins and trusted the Saviour. It seems to me that in this passage he uses the unity that exists within the Trinity – the Triune Godhead, to illustrate, and to epitomise the unity that should characterise Christ's body, the church. This sermon was preached at both Ballymacashon and Templepatrick Reformed Church. It was recorded at Templepatrick and is used here with their kind permission.Read the NOTES. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
We, mankind, as male and female together are created in the image of the Triune Godhead. Listen as Pastor Newland shares scriptural support for Diversity, Equality and Unity in the Godhead and how that affects other aspects of our lives.
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." - Matthew 28:19

From the Genesis creation story to the present, the work of the Holy Spirit is evident in our lives, even in those quiet moments when we feel alone or overwhelmed. He is the empowering force of believers and the eternal Spirit spoken of in Hebrews 9:14. The vital part He plays in bringing beauty out of chaos is both humbling and awe-inspiring.As we peel back the layers of the Trinity, we delve into the Holy Spirit's role in both believers' and non-believers' lives. He is God, a part of the Triune Godhead, and His work is narrated in the Bible from the beginning of creation to the present day. We see how the Spirit was hovering over the waters in the first chapter of Genesis, how He gave special giftings to individuals in the Old Testament, and then empowered Jesus to heal people, forgive sin, and create life out of death. The Holy Spirit's influence is far from limited to the pages of the Bible. He is our ally in proclaiming the gospel, our guide in the conviction of sin, righteousness, and judgment. When we look closely, we find His hand in every aspect of our lives, from evangelism to prayer. But what happens when His presence is absent in the church? The glory of God departs, leaving a void that cannot be filled. The Holy Spirit takes on various roles in the life of a believer. He is the author of Scripture, the Comforter, Counselor, and Advocate, and His indwelling presence bears witness to our status as children of God. He works in the life of the church and plays the role of God the Evangelist. Without the Holy Spirit, we are unable to fulfill our purpose and carry out God's work.In the realm of prayer, the Holy Spirit's ministry is crucial. He is our intercessor, praying for us with groanings too deep for words. He convicts of sin and opens our eyes to righteousness. As we navigate our Christian journey, we are reminded to stay attentive to the Holy Spirit and to not cause Him distress. Our love for one another is how the world will know that we are His disciples. In conclusion, understanding the Holy Spirit and His pervasive power is not just a theological exercise but a vital aspect of the Christian faith. His influence is far-reaching, extending beyond the confines of the church and into every aspect of our lives. By recognizing and acknowledging the Holy Spirit's work in our lives, we become more in tune with God's purpose for us, enabling us to live a life that truly glorifies Him.Thanks for listening! Words In Scripture Explored – Trinity Right mouse click to save this Podcast as a MP3. One of the problems that people tell me they have with the Christian God is the concept of God being a Trinity, asking “Why must God be a Trinity?” After all they say, the word Trinity isn't in the Bible! And they are partly correct, insomuch as that there is no explicit Bible text using the word trinity. However, the concept is explicit throughout the Bible. Trinity is Love Love Indivisible - One of the main errors people make regarding the Trinity, is that the three names, Father, Son and Spirit are simply three different modes of the one God. However the Christian doctrine of the Trinity states that God, is made of one indivisible essence or substance, and this is expressed in three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Each belongs to the whole undivided essence of God. The totality of God exists in the Father, the Son and in the Holy Spirit. Each member of the Trinity is co-equal, co-eternal, self-conscious and self-directing. The three members never act in opposition to any other member, but always in complete union and harmony. The three members are always in complete union with the other. Love Precession – This endeavours to describe the relationship within the Godhead. While, there seemingly is an order of succession in their relationship, this in no way means superiority & inferiority. The Son is begotten of the Father (John 3v16) and does the Fathers Will. Both the Father and the Son sent the Holy Spirit (John 15v26). Love Relationship – There is a communal honour between the Trinity Persons (John 15v26; 16v13-15; 17v1, 8,18,23). In the work of redemption or salvation, there is a co-ordination in the Triune Godhead (Hebrews 10v7-17; Ephesians 4v4-6; 1 Corinthians 12v4-6). The Father ‘elects' (Ephesians 1v4); The Son ‘redeems (Ephesians 1v7); and the Holy Spirit ‘seals' (Ephesians 1v13-14). Between the three Persons, there is an eternal unison in active purpose and yet seemingly external distinctive between the Three members of the Triune Godhead. If God was a single essence, as some people say, then how could love possibly be shown, as love requires more than one Person for it to be active? God is love. The Father totally loves the Son and the Spirit. The Son totally loves the Father and the Spirit. The Spirit totally loves the Father and the Son. This Trinitarian God exhibits love and commands His Disciples, to love one another so that He will be seen (John 13v34-25). When you show love, you reflect and reveal the Trinitarian God, in whose image you are made. Right mouse click to save this Podcast as a MP3.

Pastor Kirk Hall continues the study on The Revelation. Today's Passage is taken from Revelation 1:4-6.
The dramatic first verse of the Bible opens with no apology for God but a simple declaration of his existence and of his creative work. Here is the the beginning of time, space and matter. Also, the Triune Godhead, a biblical response to the gap theory and the new creation.
Rev. David Boisclair of Faith and Bethesda Lutheran Church in Pine Lawn, MO joins Rev. Brady Finnern to study Matthew 28:16-20. Jesus' last words in the Gospel of Matthew are full of promise. He has all authority over everything (v.18), He is part of the Triune Godhead (v.19), and He will be with us forever (v.20). What a joy to know that Jesus is not only all powerful but has committed himself to cling to us through thick and thin. The calling for the church is clear: make disciples through baptism in the name of the Triune God and teaching. These words may seem too simple, but it is truly a work of the Holy Spirit through the means of grace. He calls the church to proclaim this good news. The holy catholic and apostolic church calls pastors to faithfully preach the Gospel and administer His sacraments while the priesthood of all believers proclaim this truth in their daily vocations. “I know my Redeemer lives; what comfort this sweet sentence gives! He lives, He lives, who once was dead; He lives my ever-living head (Lutheran Service Book 461, LSB “I Know my Redeemer lives”).”
Thursday, 17 February 2022 Then Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” Acts 5:9 Peter had just questioned Sapphira as to whether the land was sold for the amount Peter had indicated. Her answer was a lie, saying it was. With that, it now says, “Then Peter said to her.” Peter has information that is as yet unknown by Sapphira concerning Ananias. He also knows that she has lied, just as he did. With that knowledge, he questions her directly, asking, “How is it that you have agreed together.” Rather than “agreed together,” the verb is passive being rightly translated, “How was it agreed by you.” The word Peter uses, sumphóneó, is the etymological root for our modern word “symphony.” It originally signified a harmony of voices, thus being in agreement. A cunning idea was brought forth, and it was agreed to by both “to test the Spirit of the Lord?” In verse 5:3, Peter had told Ananias that Satan had filled his heart to lie to the Holy Spirit. Then in 5:4, he said that Ananias had lied to God. Now, the same action is described as testing the Spirit of the Lord. One can see how the concept of the Godhead is somewhat revealed by how Peter has made the three statements. His wording is not unlike that found in 2 Corinthians 3 where Paul refers to “Christ,” “the Spirit of the living God,” “God,” “the Spirit,” “the Lord,” “the Lord is the Spirit,” and “the Spirit of the Lord.” Each member has His own role, but the role and the terminology are also seen to overlap as their workings are displayed in the stream of time. In Peter's use of “the Spirit of the Lord” in this verse of Acts, he is certainly using the term synonymously with “the Spirit of Jesus Christ” as is seen, for example, in Philippians 1:19. And yet, Peter also used the term Holy Spirit as noted before in verse 5:3. As such, the act is one that has come before the Godhead and Peter understands the consequences of their actions by declaring, “Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door.” Sapphira may have heard the words and not even really understood what was being said. The sentencing is so abrupt and direct that her mind may not have had time to process what he meant. But they were stated clearly enough to tell her that some sort of disaster had taken place in regard to Ananias and that meant disaster was certainly coming upon her as well. And without a break in his words, Peter then conveys what that disaster would be, saying, “and they will carry you out.” The span of time would have been very short between the two intervals, especially if a tomb was already set to receive Ananias' body. Just as the feet of the young men who had put him in his grave had returned, the sentence upon Sapphira was being spoken and executed. She would be joining him in burial within moments. Life application: If one slowly reads through the epistles and notes every use of the names and designations God, Jesus, the Spirit, and so on, a round and rich tapestry of the workings of God is revealed. The amount of overlap in the terminology makes it utterly inexcusable that people deny the concept of a Godhead where the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are each a member. This is unquestionable. As such, only a few options are available concerning the matter. One can say, “I simply don't believe this is the word of God.” In this, the indication is that the person does not accept the Bible as a revelation of who God is. But if the person is honest, he will at least admit that the Bible does convey the notion that the God presented in it is triune in nature. If a person says, “I believe the Bible is the word of God,” then there is a true disconnect in his thinking if he also says, “I do not believe in a Trinity.” The evidence is right there for anyone who is willing to simply open his eyes. Such a person is deluded and has not sought out the truth of the God who is revealed in the very Scriptures he says he believes are the true word of God. And, of course, there are those who accept the Bible as the true revelation of God, and they are willing to accept what it says at face value concerning how God has revealed Himself. “Yes, I accept that the Bible teaches the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God. I may not understand this, and I may have some of the nuances wrong in my thinking, but this is what the Bible clearly teaches.” If you are struggling with the concept of the Trinity, take the time to do your own study. The epistles and Revelation are not that long. In a short amount of time, you can have every instance of how God has revealed Himself written down. From there, you can consider them. If you are honest with what is there before you, you will agree that the Bible teaches a Triune Godhead. Lord God, You greatly reward those who diligently seek You through Your word. This is certain. And so, help us to be wise and to spend our time wisely through reading it, studying it, contemplating it, and meditating upon it. What could be more important than knowing You and growing closer to You? Help us in this, O God. Amen.

Episode 127 – But What About … the Angel of the Lord Welcome to Anchored by Truth brought to you by Crystal Sea Books. In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” The goal of Anchored by Truth is to encourage everyone to grow in the Christian faith by anchoring themselves to the secure truth found in the inspired, inerrant, and infallible word of God. Script: [Moses] led the flock far into the wilderness and came to Sinai, the mountain of God. There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. Moses stared in amazement. Though the bush was engulfed in flames, it didn’t burn up. … When the LORD saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, “Moses! Moses!” Exodus, chapter 3, verses 1 through 4, New Living Translation ******** VK: Hello. I’m Victoria K and today on Anchored by Truth we are continuing our latest study series brought to you by Crystal Sea Books. We’ve labeled this series “But what about” because a lot of time you hear questions like “but what about angels and demons” or “what about heaven and hell?” A lot of questions that people have about the Christian faith occur because Christianity has a supernatural dimension as well as a natural one. This can be confusing to people who have not studied Christianity carefully. Some people believe in what they can see and hear but they discount the supernatural entirely. Others embrace the supernatural so completely they lose sight of the proper relationship between the natural and supernatural. We wanted to do episodes on several of these subjects to see what the Bible actually has to say about them. I’m in the studio today with RD Fierro, author and Founder of Crystal Sea Books. RD, last time we took a look at what the Bible has to say about demons and Satan. But today you want to take a look at a term that can often be confusing to people – the Angel of the Lord. Right? RD: Right. But before we get started I want to say a word of greetings to all the Anchored by Truth listeners. Thank you for joining us here today. For people who are serious students of the Bible the Angel of the Lord is one of the most interesting, and perhaps enigmatic, figures that we encounter in the Bible. There aren’t a lot of references in the Bible to the Angel of the Lord but I think we can learn a lot by looking at them. What we see when we do so really opens the door to an increased understanding of the overall picture of redemption. VK: How so? RD: Well, many, although not all, commentators see the various references in the Bible to the Angel of the Lord as referring to a pre-incarnate appearance of the 2nd person of the Trinity – in other words Jesus. For instance, the New Geneva Study Bible says this: “In certain instances at least, [the Angel of the Lord] is in some sense God acting as His own messenger, and is commonly seen as a preincarnate appearance of God the son.” If this view is true, and I believe that it is, then God the son, early in the Bible, at times takes on the role of an angel. Naturally, after the incarnation, Jesus’ birth, the son of God takes on a human nature. So, this is a fascinating picture. God the son at times appears an angel. After the incarnation He adopts a human nature so He is seen as a human being. But at all times God the son is fully divine. VK: Wow. That’s enough to start to give you a brain freeze. This means that studying the Angel of the Lord is sort of a mini-course in all kinds of major Biblical doctrines and themes. There’s a lot there to unpack so where do you want to started? RD: Well, let’s start with just a brief review of some basic Biblical doctrines. Christians believe that there is one God who exists eternally as three distinct Persons. In other words, God is one What but three Who. The 2nd Person of the Trinity is a single person but (mysteriously) had two natures. He is both fully human and fully divine. In the famous words of the Chalcedonian Creed (paraphrasing) Jesus is both fully human and fully divine with “mixture or confusion, separation oo division” and each nature retains its own attributes. This would be hard enough but now we have to throw angels into the mix. VK: Angels are the second type of intelligent, personal beings that God created. There are some similarities between men and angels. Angels each have their own personality and are able to exercise freedom of will. Angels experience intellectual emotion and curiosity and they are able to comprehend the difference between good and evil and interact with each other and with human beings. Angels differ from people though. Angels normally inhabit the spiritual realm, although apparently they can cross the boundary between the physical and spiritual when necessary. Angels were created fully formed. They do not age or die and there are no gender distinctions between angels, though there are distinctions of hierarchy and type. RD: Yes. So, the first thing to note about the Angel of the Lord is that the only appearances of the Angel of the Lord are in the Old Testament. There are no appearances of the Angel of the Lord in the New Testament. VK: Or – just to be thoroughly clear – the Angel of the Lord does not appear in scripture after the incarnation, after Jesus’ birth. Right? RD: Right. And most of the references to the Angel of the Lord appear fairly early in the Old Testament – somewhere in the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Bible) or the books of Joshua or Judges. There is only one reference to the Angel of Lord later in the Old Testament and that is Zechariah, chapter 1, verse 12. And in Zechariah’s case the Angel of the Lord makes an appearance in a vision. This is quite different from most of the earlier appearances of the Angel of the Lord where the Angel is actually reported as being in contact with a human being in an earthly setting. VK: So, let’s look at that distinction a little more. The first reported appearance of the Angel of the Lord in scripture is in Genesis, chapter 16, verses 7 through 9. “The angel of the LORD found Hagar beside a spring of water in the wilderness, along the road to Shur. The angel said to her, “Hagar, Sarai’s servant, where have you come from, and where are you going?” “I’m running away from my mistress, Sarai,” she replied. The angel of the LORD said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit to her authority.” Then he added, “I will give you more descendants than you can count.” That’s from the New Living Translation. RD: Yes. Hagar was the servant of Sarah, Abraham’s wife. Sarah hadn’t had any children at that point so she had encouraged Abraham to have a child with Hagar. According to the custom of the day that child would have been reckoned as Sarah’s child. But once Hagar got pregnant, Hagar began to show contempt for Sarah. Sarah retaliated with harsh treatment so Hagar ran away. None of this was consistent with God’s will so God interceded to begin to restore some justice. One well known Bible commentator Albert Barnes puts it this way: “The angel of the Lord either represents the Lord, or presents the Lord in angelic form. The Lord manifests himself to Hagar seemingly on account of her relationship to Abram, but in the more distant form of angelic visitation.” VK: So, in the first encounter we have with the Angel of the Lord in scripture the Angel of the Lord appears to a distraught servant to bring to remedy an entire series of bad choices. Sarah shouldn’t have encouraged Abraham to have relations with her servant girl. Hagar shouldn’t have begun to despise her mistress and Sarah shouldn’t have retaliated when she had created the problem to begin with. So, to begin restoration the Angel of the Lord appears to Hagar as she is fleeing. And note the Angel ended His intercession by promising something that only God can promise. The Angel says, “I will give you more descendants than you can count.” RD: Exactly. And the same kind of pattern is repeated in one of the next encounters we see in scripture – in this case in Genesis, chapter 22, verses 15 through 18. VK: Those verses say “Then the angel of the LORD called again to Abraham from heaven. “This is what the LORD says: Because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your son, your only son, I swear by my own name that I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. … And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed—all because you have obeyed me.” RD: This is the famous episode where Abraham had been told to sacrifice his only son by Sarah, Isaac, and he was about to do so. But the Lord stopped Abraham at the last second. Notice that the Angel of Lord is said to call to Abraham from heaven but Abraham and Isaac are very much on earth. And notice that again the Angel is conveying promises that only God can make. The Bible tells us that only God can provide children in families. VK: And we should also notice that God prevented Abraham from sacrificing his son Isaac, but later God would carry through with sacrificing His only son, Jesus. RD: Exactly right. So, again we see the Angel of the Lord acting on earth to further God’s plan – in this case to keep the promised line of descent for the Messiah alive. And we continue to see this same pattern repeated as there are other appearances of the Angel of the Lord. Certainly, one of the most famous appearances of the Angel of the Lord was Moses encounter with God at the burning bush. VK: We heard a portion of that encounter in our opening scripture but let’s just repeat that here as a refresher. [Moses] … came to Sinai, the mountain of God. There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. ... Though the bush was engulfed in flames, it didn’t burn up. … When the LORD saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, “Moses! Moses!” RD: Notice the scripture says it was the Angel of the Lord appearing to Moses in the blazing fire but then it says that it was God who called out to Moses. Later in this encounter Moses will ask God what God’s name is? VK: That’s Exodus, chapter 3, verses 13 through 15. Again, in the New Living Translation those verses say, “But Moses protested, “If I go to the people of Israel and tell them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ they will ask me, ‘What is his name?’ … God replied to Moses, ‘I Am Who I Am. Say this to the people of Israel: I Am has sent me to you … Say this to the people of Israel: Yahweh, the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you. This is my eternal name, my name to remember for all generations.’ ” RD: So, just to reinforce the point we have been making. We are first told that the Angel of the Lord was the One appearing in the blazing fire, but then we immediately find out that it is God who is doing the talking. And this is one of the most important sections in all of scripture because in these verses God reveals His personal name to Moses. In ancient Hebrew the name would have been written Y-H-W-H because ancient Hebrews only used consonants and not vowels. Those characters are most frequently translated as Yahweh in Hebrew or Jehovah in Latin. VK: And this is a very important revelation because with it God identifies Himself by the attribute of His self-existence. The ATS Bible Dictionary puts it this way: “…it denotes the self-existence, independence, immutability, and infinite fullness of the divine Being ...” RD: Right. So, it is very significant that in this one portion of scripture we see the Angel of the Lord being identified immediately afterward as God Himself. So, the question becomes how we can understand this juxtaposition. One clear possibility is to recognize that in delivering this very important message to Moses, God chose to eliminate all intermediaries and do it directly from a Member of the Triune Godhead. The most likely Member who would have done that is the 2nd Person who would later come to earth physically as a descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob – Jesus. VK: Well, let’s be sure that everybody is aware of what we’re talking about. In the earliest parts of scripture – Genesis and Exodus – God found it necessary to occasionally intervene directly in the affairs of one of His servants to ensure that His plans either stayed on track or were put back on track. The Angel of the Lord appeared to Hagar because Hagar was significant in the life of Abraham. Obviously, keeping Isaac alive was significant to the plan of salvation. In Moses’ case God was going to use Moses to free His chosen people from bondage in Egypt. This was both necessary physically to return the Jews to their promised land but also as a forerunner of what would happen in Jesus’ life. So, the Angel of the Lord is essentially acting as an instrument of the Lord’s plans to ensure they stay on track. RD: Exactly. So, let’s skip forward a little. After Moses led the Hebrews through the desert he died. Then, Joshua actually led them into the land they would occupy. To strengthen Joshua for the tasks that lay ahead of him, a slightly mysterious figure appears to Joshua as the Hebrews are beginning to drive the pagan nations out. Scripture describes as “the commander of the LORD’s army.” Most commentators identify this figure as a “Christophany.” It was this figure who gave Joshua the specific instructions for how to defeat the city of Jericho. VK: A “theophany” [THE-OFF-O-KNEE] is a manifestation of God in the Bible that is tangible to the human senses. A Christophany is a manifestation of Christ to human senses other than when Jesus was physically on the earth. Many commentators will use the term “Christophany” to refer to a visible appearance of Christ in the Old Testament because obviously, at that time, Jesus was not yet born. RD: Yes. So, if this is a Christophany, then this is also a pre-incarnate appearance of the 2nd Person of the Trinity on the earth. This, by the way, is the only time in scripture that this specific title is used for Jesus. VK: But the term “Angel of the Lord” will be used a few more times in the book of Judges and a couple of times in the books of Kings and Chronicles. Just as a refresher the first five books of the Bible, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, are called the Pentateuch. The Pentateuch is immediately followed by the book of Joshua and Joshua is immediately followed by Judges. So, as we mentioned earlier, most of these references occur very early in the scriptures. RD: Yes. So, all of these references to either the Angel of the Lord or the Commander of the Lord’s armies tell us something very important. VK: Which is? RD: Jesus was very active in the plan of salvation long before He adopted a human nature and was born as a baby in Bethlehem. This is important to understand for a couple of reasons. First, it reinforces the eternality of Jesus. Scripture makes reference to this but it can tend to slip our minds. VK: We see Christ’s eternality as part of the Triune Godhead in the Gospel of John, chapter 1, verses 1 and 2. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.” That’s the New International Version. RD: Right. And there are other places in scripture such as Colossians 1:16 that make the same point. But while we may intellectually know that the 2nd Person of the Trinity is eternal, we may not always think that He has always been active in directing the progress of the plan of salvation. But, of course, He was. Certainly, Jesus’ most visible role in the Bible is in the Gospels which record His life on this earth and his life, ministry, death, and resurrection. But it would be an error to think that Jesus’ role in our salvation did not start until He was born. It began long before – even before, as the Bible puts it, “the foundation of the world.” VK: Well, this observation points out the need for us to read and become familiar with the entire Bible. There are no appearances of the Angel of the Lord or the Commander of the Lord’s armies in the New Testament. There are some Christians who think that you can gain all you need to know about the Christian faith from the New Testament. But this study on the Angel of the Lord points out the fallacy in that view. We cannot have a truly comprehensive view of the role Jesus played in our salvation if we don’t go all the way back to the beginning of the Bible. Again, these appearances of the Angel of the Lord are in the very first books of the Bible. RD: That’s a great observation. So, another point we need to keep in mind is that Christ acting as the Angel of the Lord in the Old Testament, but not doing so in the New, helps us see the unity of scripture and the coherence of the Christian faith. Of course all the Members of the Trinity have always been active in creation and redemption. But each has their own role they play in the grand, cosmic drama. And, in their actions, they complement one another to achieve a single purpose, but they don’t step on each other. They act in perfect harmony. Each Person performs their own duties, if you will, but they are perfect in complementing each other and in keeping the plan moving toward the goal of saving the elect. VK: I see what you’re saying. Christ, the 2nd Person of the Trinity, was chosen to be the Person who would assume a human nature. Then, because He retained His divine nature, Christ was perfectly suited to be a mediator between God and man as the books of 1 (first) Timothy and Hebrews put it. But even before that time arrived in the history of salvation Christ was appearing at certain times and places to keep the plan on track. RD: Right. The Angel of the Lord appeared to some of the most important people in the Bible such as Abraham, Moses, and David. But He also appeared to ordinary people - a servant girl and to Samson’s parents to tell them of Samson’s upcoming birth. In the book of Numbers the Angel of the Lord appears to a wicked prophet named Balaam when Balaam is about to make a very bad mistake and He appeared to King David after David had committed one of his more egregious sins. In those appearances the Angel of the Lord has a drawn sword in his hand – a suitable accompaniment for preventing or correcting sin. All of this reminds us that God and Christ are concerned with the affairs of both the high and the low. And they are as able to influence the history of the biggest plan in all of history – the redemption of God’s elect – all the while acting in seemingly the most simple of ways such as helping a distressed servant girl. VK: So, part of what you’re saying is that scripture is very consistent as it reports the actions of God and even of the individual members of the Trinity. After God the Son assumed His human nature in Jesus He never again appeared as the Angel of the Lord. This doesn’t mean He couldn’t. Only that He didn’t. The most prominent appearance of a Christophany after Jesus ascended was to the Apostle Paul on the Road to Damascus. And when Paul asked, who was the one appearing to him in the blinding heavenly light, Jesus plainly stated “I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting!” That’s Acts, chapter 9, verse 5. The fact that the appearances of the Angel of the Lord are all in the Old Testament seems to be significant. God is a God of order. Before Jesus adopted His human nature the Angel of the Lord was an appropriate way for Jesus to reveal himself at selected times and places. After Jesus assumed His human nature He will now possess that nature for all time. And it is Jesus with His human nature who is said to be seated in the place of honor – at the right hand of God in heaven. RD: Right. The Angel of the Lord is slightly enigmatic, but a very significant figure in the Bible. The appearances of the Angel of the Lord as pre-incarnate appearances of God the Son make perfect sense in the overall plan of redemption and salvation. Christ used the role as the Angel of the Lord to help direct the plan of salvation before He took on His human nature. And as the Angel of the Lord Christ used whatever appearance made sense for the situation. When He wanted to get the attention of a sinner, even David, He appeared with a sword. But in the appearance to Hagar or to Samson’s parents there was no need for a sword. On those occasions He was there to provide counseling or encouragement. And when Joshua was embarking on a military quest to conquer Canaan Christ appears as the Commander of the Lord’s Armies. The appearance is always suitable for the person and the occasion – just what you expect from a God who both superintends the ends but never loses sight of the means and always expresses love for His children. VK: Well, next time we’ll turn our attention to another subject that can cause some confusion in the minds of believers as well as unbelievers – the Holy Spirit and the role this 3rd Person of the Trinity plays in the plan of salvation and the life of Christians. This sounds like a good time for a prayer. Since there is a desperate need in our nation for the wisdom of God to light a path to truth and freedom, today let’s pray a prayer for the restoration of the worship of the One True God. ---- PRAYER FOR RESTORATION OF THE WORSHIP OF THE ONE TRUE GOD (MARCUS). (biblehub.com) How Jesus is Both God and Man: The Chalcedonian Creed & The Two Natures of Christ — SOLA What is a theophany? What is a Christophany? | GotQuestions.org Expositions Of Holy Scripture, Alexander MacLaren You will observe that there run throughout the whole of the Old Testament notices of the occasional manifestation of a mysterious person who is named ‘the Angel,’ ‘the Angel of the Lord.’ For instance, in the great scene in the wilderness, where the bush burned and was not consumed, he who appeared is named ‘the Angel of the Lord’; and his lips declare ‘I am that I am.’ In like manner, soon after, the divine voice speaks to Moses of ‘the Angel in whom is My name.’ When Balaam had his path blocked amongst the vineyards, it was a replica of the figure of my text that stayed his way, a man with a drawn sword in his hand, who spoke in autocratic and divine fashion. When the parents of Samson were apprised of the coming birth of the hero, it was ‘the Angel of the Lord’ that appeared to them, accepted their sacrifice, declared the divine will, and disappeared in a flame of fire from the altar. A psalm speaks of ‘the Angel of the Lord’ as encamping round about them that fear him, and delivering them. Isaiah tells us of the ‘Angel of his face,’ who was ‘afflicted in all Israel’s afflictions, and saved them.’ And the last prophetic utterance of the Old Testament is most distinct and remarkable in its strange identification and separation of Jehovah and the Angel, when it says, ‘the Lord shall suddenly come to His Temple, even the Angel of the Covenant.’ Now, if we put all these passages-and they are but select instances-if we put all these passages together, I think we cannot help seeing that there runs, as I said, throughout the whole of the Old Testament a singular strain of revelation in regard to a Person who, in a remarkable manner, is distinguished from the created hosts of angel beings, and also is distinguished from, and yet in name, attributes, and worship all but identified with, the Lord Himself.
Jesus continues to teach his disciples after they have celebrated the Passover, and at this point they are on their way to the Mount of Olives. At the end of the chapter, Jesus begins to teach on the Holy Spirit, which will continue in chapter 16.:::Christian Standard Bible translation. All music written and produced by John Burgess Ross.Co-produced by Aaron Colyer and the Christian Standard Biblefacebook.com/commuterbibleinstagram.com/commuter_bibletwitter.com/CommuterPodpatreon.com/commuterbibleadmin@commuterbible.org
Christ is the Answer to Disharmony (Part I-The Goal) Text: Ephesians 4: 1-10 Thesis: “God's answer to disharmony in the world is Christ. Christ is the only sure foundation for unity…Each member of the body of Christ must live faithfully with this grand result in mind.” (BBC, Ephesians, page 200) Paul writes, literally from a prison cell, on behalf of the Lord. (vs1a) In jail, Paul continues to faithfully carry out his duties. For Paul, to serve Christ was his life. Paul States, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:21) Paul “urges” all believers “to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” (vs1b-3) Paul reiterates throughout the letter to the Ephesians that to serve the King of Kings and Lord of Lords is a high calling. A believer's lifestyle should reflect the nature of Christ. To “be” like Christ is to be: (vs2) “Completely humble”-not arrogant, but aware our righteousness is from Christ alone. “Completely gentle”-not weak, but controlled strength. “Completely patient”-not easily angered but able to give a measured response. We are called to “bear with one another in love”. “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” (1 Peter 4:8) Paul believes having harmony in the Church is a pre-requisite to having harmony in the world. “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit, through the bond of peace.” (vs 3) Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, from they will be called sons of God.” (Matthew 5:9) Peacemakers are controlled by the “Spirit” (vs3), troublemakers are controlled by the flesh. “You, however, are not (controlled) in the realm of the flesh (sinful nature) but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.” (Romans 8:9) III. Paul proclaims the profound “oneness” we find in Christ in verses 4-6. We are included in the family of God. The Triune Godhead is one in Nature, three in Person. We are the “body of Christ”, God the Son. Paul personalizes our calling from Christ. (Vs 7-10) “But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.” God explained to Paul that His grace is sufficient in a time of need. “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.” (2 Cor. 12:9) A unanimous teaching throughout scripture is that “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17)

In John's account of Jesus’ last night before the cross, we encounter some of the most tender words in all the Scriptures. In the Upper Room, Jesus poured out His heart to His disciples, teaching them (and through them, us) how to live in the love of God, because living in the love of God is everything. John 14:15-31 is notoriously difficult to outline, because Jesus keeps circling back time and again to the same central theme as He invites us to live deeply in the love of God. Pastor Philip approached the passage from three angles: Our Love of God: What does it mean to really love God? Our love of Jesus naturally and necessarily flows into an obedience to His law. This fundamentally boils down to loving God and loving people. So if you really love Jesus, you’ll grow in love for one another. But that’s not always an easy thing to do. We desperately need direction, wholeness, and courage from Jesus to do that well. We cannot do it on our own, which brings us to the next point. God’s Love of Us: The only way we’ll ever be able to obey Christ’s law of love is through the enabling work of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit enables through us what the Son commands of us so that Father delights in us. You want to know how hard love is? It takes all three persons of the Triune God to form us into people of love. The Life of Love: There’s an important progression here: Love God -> Obey God -> Love People -> God’s Presence. Here’s the logic: to love Jesus is to obey Jesus; to obey Jesus is to love one another; as we live in loving obedience, Jesus asks the Father to send the Spirit; God’s indwelling Spirit is His presence in us. Perichoresis is the Divine dance of eternal loving embrace, each person of the Triune Godhead lovingly self-giving unto the others, and welcoming and receiving one another into themselves with unrestrained, overflowing intimacy, delight, and everlasting joy! Do you realize what this means? To be united to Jesus by faith is to be “in Christ” and to have “Christ in us.” And if we share a perichoretic relationship with Jesus, and Jesus has a perichoretic relationship with the Father and the Spirit, then to be in Christ means we also have the Spirit and the Father in Him. The Triune God is inviting us to share in the Dance. Takeaways: will you have this Dance? John 14:15-31 Sermon Q&A click here.

by Pastor Chuck Ryan The Rocks Will Cry Out Text: Luke 19:28-40 Thesis: “Let everything with breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.” (Psalms 150:6) This story speaks of preparation and planning. (28-36) Everything Jesus did was intentional, the fulfilment of what God pre-ordained. Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. (Luke 19:32) Jesus was following the plan designed by the Triune Godhead from the beginning of time. The day, the place of his announcement and even his mode of transportation was prearranged. The prophet Zachariah in 520BC prophesied of Jesus' triumphal entry. Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. (Zachariah 9:9) Jesus's first coming was prophesied, and His second coming is prophesied as well. Many in the Jewish community could not accept Jesus as the messiah because they misinterpreted prophesy. The common Jewish person recognized Jesus as the Messiah and praised Him, but the Religious leaders did not. (vs 36-38) “The crowd spread their cloaks on the road…and the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Peace in the heavens and glory in the highest!” When going to town people usually wear their best. The people laid their worldly possessions at the feet of Jesus. The people were not ashamed of Jesus, but where bold, because “They sang with loud voices.” They not only were being observed by their peers but those in authority over them. Jesus said, “If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels." (Mark 8:38) The Pharisee had three reasons for rebuking the crowd for praising Jesus. 1st- They did not believe Jesus to be the Messiah, so they felt the crowd was blaspheming God. 2nd-They feared the Roman authorities. You do not realize that it is better for you that one man dies for the people than that the whole nation perishes." (John 11:50) 3rd They were jealous of Jesus. For he was aware that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy. (Mark 15:10 NASB) (The NIV states “Self-interest”) Jesus makes it clear that it is impossible to stop the praise of God. “I tell you, he replied, if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” (vs. 40) Jesus in defending His disciple's actions of praise, revealed a Spiritual Truth, an Eternal Truth, and a Divine Law. The Holy Trinity will be praised! The Psalmist states, “Let everything that has breath, praise the Lord.” (Psalms 150)

Trinity Sunday (June 7th)Song: We All Believe in One True GodPassage: Genesis 1-2:4, Acts 2 14a, 22-36, Matthew 28:16-20Hello everyone and Welcome to episode #15 of the Anno Domini Podcast. A podcast dedicated to the supremacy of Christ over all things including our days, weeks, and months.Join me as we explore how Christ is revealed through the cyclical life of the church calendar year. We’ll discover how this calendar once structured culture and how it can again. We’ll also discuss practical ways to observe and celebrate these holy days in our quest to glorify God and live the good life in the midst of all good He has given us. Last week I said that Pentecost might be the most important day we mark on the Church Calendar. My reasoning is that only with the coming of the Holy Spirit, are those of us who belong to Christ are actually given new hearts. Jesus said that we would be born again by the Spirit. The Father sends the Son. The Son atones for the sins of His people, and the Spirit gives them new hearts so that they can approach the holiness of the Father. It is this beautiful trinitarian reality that we celebrate on Holy Trinity Sunday. Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, living in perfect harmony, three in one and one in three. The triune God head.PracticalTrinity Sunday is here. We are now beginning a new time within the Church Calendar; Ordinary Time. While the first half of the Church year focuses on the Life of Jesus, the second half focuses on the life of the Church now that the Spirit has come and filled our hearts with love of God and love of His people. This is where we get our idea of things being ordinary and special. The first half is special because it is all about the life of Christ, the second half is ordinary, or numbered, because we, the saints that comprised His bride, the Church, are being transformed into a better representation of Him. Ordinary isn’t boring, in fact, without ordinary you don’t have special. Things are only special if they are set against ordinary things. We are now living in the time of Pentecost and therefore we number our weeks as they correspond to the Pentecost Sunday when the Spirit was given to us. In this way we balance our focus on the life of Christ and the life of Christ’s people as they try and become more like Him. BiblicalEach episode of the Anno Domini podcast, we try and look at some or all of the readings found in the church lectionary. For those of you who are new, the lectionary is simply a prepared set of readings that are connected in a germane way to the day or week of the Church Calendar. This is a set group of readings that ALL the church is reading together regardless personal devotions. Usually there is an Old Testament Reading, A Psalm, a Gospel passage, and an Epistle reading. These passages usually share commonalities although sometimes you have to work to spot them. For Trinity Sunday the passages are from Genesis 1-2:4, Matthew 28:16-20 and Acts 2:14a, 22-36. I will actually be reading snippets of each of these passages to highlight why they were chosen for Trinity Sunday. Let’s start with the passage from Genesis.Genesis 1:26-28Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”So God created man in his own image,in the image of God he created him;male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”As God is creating the world, His creation culminates with the creation of man, the image of God. When God prepares to create man, He refers to Himself using a first person plural pronouns “Us” and “Our.” He does not use the singular “I” or “My” but “Us” and “Our.” This means that God is one God with at least more than one person within the God head. We will see in the next passages that there are in fact three.Matthew 28:16-20Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”Christians have been given the task of calling to repentance and discipline, all the nations of the earth. We are to baptize them in a veryspecific way, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Once they’ve been baptized, we are teach them how to obey God in the ways He has commanded us. When we obey Christ in this way, He promises to be with us always.Acts 2:32-33,36This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing…Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”In this passage, Peter is giving His first sermon and He declares that Jesus ascended to the right hand of God the Father where He was given the promised Holy Spirit which He then poured out upon us. There again we see the three members of the Triune Godhead on display. We also see the love of our One God. The Father sends the Son to rescue His people from their sins so He can pour out His Spirit upon them. This in One God in Three Persons.PracticalThis week we are going to be examining a hymn from one of my favorite fathers of the faith; Martin Luther. Before we get to the hymn I would like to talk for a moment about this man God used to advance the kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven. Luther of course started his life out as a Roman Catholic but was disturbed by many things he saw taking place within the Roman Catholic church. Martin Luther observed rampant greed, oppression, corruption, and blasphemy, which is the act of speaking falsehoods about God that make Him out to be liar. Martin Luther is one of Christendom’s greatest heroes because he stood against the zeitgeist of the day. Martin Luther was German and so is the word zeitgeist which, to my knowledge, does not have an english equivalent. Zeitgeist is a word that is used to describe the “Spirit of the Age.” Every age, or period has a defining spirit or characteristic. For Luther, that Zeitgeist was a Roman Catholic church steeped in corruption as priests taught the manipulative and unbiblical doctrine of indulgences. Parishioners were deceived into giving extra money to the church outside the normal tithe to “buy their relatives out of purgatory.” The lay people were not allowed to read the bible and had to rely entirely on the clergy to teach them God’s Word. Since it was in the best financial interest of the Roman Catholic church to require indulgences the church grew fat with wealth while the people suffered. This was real oppression with actual victims. This was true institutional oppression. Martin Luther stood up against the prevailing thought of his day and one day courageously nailed his 95 Theses to the church doors at Wittenberg. By going against the zeitgeist, the Spirit of the Age, Martin Luther brought true freedom to a people who were really being oppressed. Martin Luther chose to not follow the crowd and instead took his stand courageously on Scripture. Paul warns us in Colossians 2:8 “See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.”The zeitgeist had its truth, its gospel if you will, hollow as it was. The zeitgeist promised true deliverance but only delivered a false deception dreamt up by the father of lies. The zeitgeist is fickle and is no substitute for true salvation. See the zeitgeist and if it doesn’t submit to Christ and His Word then reject this false gospel. As we seek practical ways of living a life that is shaped by Trinitarian thought let’s put 3 things at the forefront of our mind:Our sin is primarily against God the Father. We are guilty but not because we feel guilty. David didn’t feel guilty until Nathan called out his sin. David, while confessing his sin of adultery and murder confesses to God in Psalm 51 “against You and You only have I sinned.” This doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t confess our sins to others, we absolutely should and must if there is actual sin involved but never forgetting that sin is ultimately against our Holy Father. Our sin against God the Father was atoned for by Jesus Christ, God the Son, through His work on the cross. He lived a perfect life, fulfilled the Law of God, and imputes that righteousness to His children setting us free from the power and guilt of sin. If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. Therefore regardless of the sin of your father, or their fathers, if you are in Christ, you are a new creation, the old is gone and you have been set free from that sin. Walk no longer in guilt or shame. Our sin having been atoned for, we are given God the Holy Spirit to indwell us. Since God the Son has set us free from the power of sin against the God the Father, God the Holy Spirit gives us power to walk in that newness of life. Those of us in Christ should walk by the Spirit by living lives that reflect this freedom by our willingness to love God and to love those around us who have been made in the image of God. We exhibit this love for others by standing up for truth, goodness, and beauty. We exhibit this love for other by confess our own sin and not the sin of others. We exhibit this love for others by believing and speaking biblical truth in love and not by spreading sweet little easy lies. The bottom line is that our allegiance is to our God and Creator and to His people. When we sin it is against Him. When we are forgiven it is because of His mercy. When we walk in freedom it is because of His grace. A double portion. This gospel is independent of any nation, tribe, or tongue. We are Christians first. Period. Nothing should come before our unity as Christians. The only solidarity Christians should make primary is their union with the body of believers that comprise the Bride of Christ, the Church. The Father is providing His Son, the bridegroom, with a beautiful and spotless bride. That bride is us and we must not make our allegiance to anyone or anything before our true Husband. As believers in the One True God, We will be spending eternity together in harmony, so let’s start practicing that harmony now. The gospel is grace and freedom for all who come. Let’s treat our brothers and sisters in Christ as if they have actually been set free. MusicalAs I said earlier, this weeks hymn comes from Martin Luther in 1524. This hymn was originally set to a chant that is hauntingly beautiful. I have put the song to a new a tune. This is an explicitly Trinitarian song and each stanza is dedicated to a different member of the Trinity. This song is a sung creed. Just as we say the Apostles Creed or the Nicean Creed, we sing this creed. All Christians believe what is within those creeds as they are the foundations for Christianity. Creedal songs such as this are wonderful because even if Christians disagree on many theological topics, we all believe these things to be true and we can gather around our true unity within songs and creeds like these. I will read each stanza and comment briefly on each.We all believe in one true God,Who created earth and heaven,The Father, who to us in loveHath the right of children given. He both soul and body feedethAll we need He doth provide us.He through snares and perils leadeth,Watching that no harm betide us.He careth for us day and nightAll things are governed by His mightAs I said in the previous segment, Christians have solidarity first with one another. We are Christians first always. The blood of Christ is takes precedent over the blood in our own veins. What do we believe? We believe in the maker of heaven and earth. The one true God. The God is a Father and He calls us His children. He feeds our souls and our bodies and provides us with everything we truly need. He leads us through the many snares and perils that abound in this life and He does this all while watching that no harm happens to us. He is always taking care of us and He is sovereignly in control of everything that happens in this world. He is a good Father. We all believe in Jesus Christ,His own Son, our Lord, possessingAn equal Godhead, throne, and might,Source of ev'ry grace and blessing;Born of Mary, virgin mother,By the power of the Spirit,Made true man, our elder Brother,That the lost might life inherit,Was crucified for sinful menAnd raised by God to life again.Christians believe in Jesus Christ who is the Son of God the Father. Jesus possess an equal Godhead. That is to say while Christ submits to the Father, He is fully God in His position and his power. Christ is the source of our joy and happiness. By the Spirit Jesus was born of the virgin Mary and while fully God was also fully man or a true man. As He is one of us, He is our elder brother. Think about that, all those claimed by Christ have them same Big Brother; Jesus. That means we’re all siblings. He was made fully man so that we, His lost sheep, might inherit eternal life. He was crucified for our sins while we were still sinful and unlovely but He was then raised by God the Father to life again on the 3rd day.We all confess the Holy Ghost,Who sweet grace and comfort givethAnd with the Father and the SonIn eternal glory liveth;Who the Church, His own creation,Keeps in unity of spirit. Here forgiveness and salvationDaily come through Jesus' merit. All flesh shall rise, and we shall beIn bliss with God eternally. We all believe in or confess the Holy Ghost who gives us grace and comfort. Jesus calls Him the Comforter. He lives with the Father and the Son in eternity which means He had no beginning and will have no end. The Church is held together in unity by the power of the Holy Spirit’s work in us. We choose one another because we are all a part of the same body. Within the Church is forgiveness and salvation because of the merit or work or Christ. One day all men, women, boys, and girls, literally ALL flesh shall rise for the final judgement. For those found in Christ we will have bliss with God forever. I will be going on an extended break as we are entering ordinary time on the Church Calendar. Ordinary time refers the time that is marked by ordinal numbers following Pentecost. Trinity Sunday is actually the 1st Sunday after Pentecost. We will have 19 more Sunday’s after Pentecost before we get to our next Church Holiday which is Reformation Day and then the week after will be All Saints Day. I will for sure produce an episode for All Saints Day and probably will for Reformation Day as well. I have some time to think about it though as either of those days won’t be here until the end of October. If I might make a suggestion it would be to download the Lectionary in the show notes so you can continue to read the biblical passages during this beautifully ordinary time.Anyways, that wraps up our episode on the Trinity. I hope you all have a wonderful Trinity Sunday and I hope you enjoy a new setting of Martin Luther’s Trinitarian masterpiece, We All Believe in One True God and we’ll see you in October.

I hope you will join us every week and be sure to let us know how you enjoy the podcast and let others know about it, too. Thanks for listening. Thanks for joining me today for "A Little Walk with God." I'm your host Richard Agee. We find it easy to think God doesn't care when we see the devastation man and nature creates around us. Particularly in these times, when we huddle in our homes, afraid of each other. Afraid our neighbor will spread the virus to us. We live in fear today. What happened? In a few short months, we gave up the outdoors. We gave seeing each other. We gave up our extended families. We even gave up our ability to mourn. I'm not sure God's desire for us to love each other as He loves us looks favorably on what we have done to ourselves in these last several months. Certainly, we need to take precautions against this new disease about which we seem to know very little. But do we let fear stop our relationships? Do we allow anxiety to be the overwhelming emotion in our lives? I think it is time we allow God's rich legacy of peace to take over in our lives and our communities. As His children, we can offer something the rest of the world cannot. We can embrace life with an assurance of hope that a better day is coming. This short time of suffering is not the end, but the beginning of life. No matter what we might face now, it is so insignificant in the face of what we will enjoy with Christ for eternity if we accept Him as the Master of our lives. Unfortunately, most people today will not agree with me. As in Jesus' day, most will reject Him. They will call Him a charlatan, a fake, a seeker of fame. That same crowd will declare His followers delusional, gullible, ignorant. But the early followers of Christ held fast for one simple reason. Some five hundred of His disciples saw the physical, resurrected Jesus. Not a ghost or spirit or a delusion, but a physical body. Jesus spoke with them. He ate and walked and touched them. The crucified, once dead, Master overcame the grave and lived. We believe because of the conviction of their belief. Then Jesus gave those same disciples a mission. The last time they saw Him, He told them to make more disciples and teach them what they knew. Bring them into their fellowship with the rite of baptism in the name of the Triune Godhead, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. More than that, Jesus taught His disciples in His last days before His death, that the Holy Spirit would not just come to live with them as He had, but would live in them. What difference would that make for them? God longs to have an intimate fellowship with His highest creation, human beings. He made us in His image. He touched the earth to walk with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. He touched the earth in the Holy of Holies, the sacred place in the tabernacle He instructed Moses to build for Him as a dwelling place and later in the Temple Solomon made as a place of worship for Israel. It was the spot God came to bring heaven and earth together with His presence. Then God lived among us as flesh and blood in human form in His Son Jesus, the second person of the Triune Godhead. How is that possible? He is God, and it is beyond human understanding. If we could understand everything about God, he would not be God, just a super version human. While He was here, Jesus said something incredible about that third person of the Godhead, though. He said the Holy Spirit would live in us. Think about that a moment—God in us. God touched the earth again—in us. The Holy Spirit, God, lives on earth now, when we accept Him into our lives as the Master of our soul. When we decide to give ourselves to Him, He lives in us just as He lived in the Holy of Holies in the Temple in Jerusalem or the tabernacle as His people moved across the wilderness. We are His temple. The Apostle Peter writes to the early church and puts the concept in these words: Come to him, a living stone, though rejected by mortals yet chosen and precious in God's sight, and like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it stands in scripture: "See, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame." To you then who believe, he is precious; but for those who do not believe, "The stone that the builders rejected has become the very head of the corner," and "A stone that makes them stumble, and a rock that makes them fall." They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. (1 Peter 2:4-10 NIV) We are God's temple when we believe in Jesus for salvation. And when he lives in us, it also makes us a priesthood—every one of us because we are His temple. Think about the responsibility of the caretakers for God's dwelling place; sacrifices, prayers, intercession, care of the temple itself. If I am His temple individually and we are His temple collectively, we have responsibilities to keep ourselves and His church clean and holy, first of all. Then we have a responsibility to minister to those outside this living church; to make disciples and teach them. Jesus commanded us to love each other and love them. He said to make new disciples and teach them. How do we do that? We love them into the Kingdom of God. And what better time to do that than now. During every pandemic that has swept the earth, God's people ministered to those in need. It should be the same with this one. Be careful? Absolutely. Be fearful? Never. As the psalmist wrote, "Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting?" When we know our destiny, the worst that can happen to us is we wake up with Jesus. Let God's love shine through you as you live each day for Him. You can find me at richardagee.com. Robin loves thinking about God and who He is. It started about 20 years ago when a lady at her church showed people how to put together a prayer notebook and it included verses in the bible about God’s names, characteristics, and attributes. There was a page for every day of the month. She used that notebook for many years reading about God every day. When she found an alphabetized list of God’s attributes, she adapted the prayer notebook to fit that layout. Then while singing a song in the choir on the names of Jesus, Robin added an alphabetized list for Jesus to the notebook. Of course, a study on the Holy Spirit lead her to also include verses on this person of the glorious Triune Godhead. Then, she began to think about how believers should respond to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; and created a list of responses. Finally, in her journey, Robin developed a list for the church. It progressed over many years, one building on top of the other. So now she has five lists for each letter of the alphabet and it was really fun to look up verses. Doing a study in the bible can bring you great joy as you learn more about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and how they view us and the church. What really brought great insight for Robin was when she did a study on a book by A.W. Tozer entitled, Knowledge of the Holy. It was an in depth, eye-opening exploration on God and it absolutely, dramatically, and radically changed how she viewed God.Many people put God in a box, but this busted out the sides of the box. A famous quote from the book is the basis of this podcast series, “What comes into your mind when you think about God is the most important thing about us.” What a person thinks about God affects how they live their life, all that they do in life, how they view others, what their purpose is and how they make decisions. Many people view God wrongly. If you view God how He really is, it will change your perspective on life. Can you know God? Maybe not in His entirety but God reveals Himself in the word, in creation, in the Person of Jesus, and in our hearts through the Holy Spirit. These will be the areas that will be studied for each attribute of God.One thing will be explored in all God's attributes. What is true about one attribute will be true for all the other attributes. So, if God is eternal then His faithfulness is eternal and His love is eternal. They are all God and all interconnected. One doesn’t work outside of any of the others. If He is unlimited then His knowledge, resources, and power are without measure too. Robin’s favorite attribute of God is that He is unchanging. It gives you an unmovable firm foundation to stand on. You can always trust that God is a certain way. He will always keep His promises, be with you, and provide for your needs. You don’t have to worry because He is 100% reliable in who He says He is. Robin’s goals for doing this series on the attributes of God are so you could:1. Love God for all He is.2. Be moved with passion and emotion through knowledge of His being.3. Know Him more4. Accurately proclaim to others who God is.5. Bust open the sides of any box you have put God inRobin hopes you will go on this journey with her. Maybe you couldn’t put your life into the hands of the God you thought Him to be; but after this study Robin hopes you will want to put your complete trust in this God you are learning Him to be.For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him will not perish but have eternal life. This is who God is. Living a radical life for Jesus means glorifying the Father in all His attributes.
John 15:26-16:7 There is much confusion today in this world about the third Member of the Triune Godhead, so the lessons on the Holy Spirit, given to His disciples on the night of His arrest as part of His "Farewell Discourse," are critical for our proper understanding the ministry and the function (role) of the Spirit. In the previous lesson (#156), the Lord's subject dealt with the hateful opposition of the world toward the Church (Christians). His next subject was "The Ministries of the Holy Spirit" both to and through the Church in the world. Christ spoke of three particular functions (roles) of the Spirit: as Comforter (this lesson), as Reprover, and as Teacher. This lesson is about His role, to the Church, as Comforter - a very important role for believers today as we face increasing persecution worldwide!
Christmas is an on-going historical account of God's sovereign rule throughout the ages. It is the grand and glorious story of the Sovereign Triune God's will willingness, and work to redeem those whom He had eternally covenanted within Himself to redeem. This story of Sovereign Triunity willing and working for the redemption of His elect is revealed through -8- eight dramatic scenes through the inspired pen of the apostle Paul.--NOTE- Christmas is not merely a past looking to the Incarnation of Jesus Christ, but a present living of the Incarnation of Jesus Christ by walking in the power and person of the Holy Spirit today. Christmas is a present and personal celebration of the exaltation of the Son back to the Father's right hand both Lord and Christ, and the coming of the Spirit to show and seal our Sonship that we might live in the VICTORY of a Triune Godhead-
In this sermon, Pastor Geoff preaches on the work of the TRIUNE Godhead in our salvation.----Gaze and marvel at 3 amazing features...----1. The WASHING of the SPIRIT--2. The WEALTH of the FATHER--3. The WORTH of JESUS CHRIST----All glory be to our great God-----www.CFBCSTL.org

Pastor Kent Jacob continues with his series on the Holy Spirit. In this episode he takes a look at how the Holy Spirit is identified in the Old Testament and in the New. He shows that the Holy Spirit, as the third person of the Triune Godhead, dwells in us as Believers in Christ Jesus. He also highlighted, that the Holy Spirit in us is God in us is. The Holy Spirit in us is Christ in us. Pastor Kent further emphasized the work of the Holy Spirit in sanctifying us.
In episode 15, we discuss what is the Trinity? Who are they and why is it important to not only know there is a Holy Trinity, but also to know all those who are part of the Holy Trinity. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/user?u=32788432&fan_landing=true)
An amazing discussion and training session for defending your faith (apologetics) with Jeff Jerina's guest Bodie Hodge of Answers in Genesis a partner of Men Unplugged. Topics mentioned in this podcast, evangelism, defending your faith, apologetics, apologetics for teens, apologetics for kids, evolution, Noah’s Ark, Big Bang theory, ark of the covenant, dinosaurs, Jonah and the whale, the resurrection of Jesus Christ, divine creation. Factual evidence that a believer can share with a skeptic. Jeff notes something that he shares with others in his evangelism training and upcoming book that you need to learn how to share your faith before you can defend it and how evangelism and apologetics work together. Jeff says one of the best things to do is to ask non-believers why they think a certain way. By doing this, you will be able to understand and navigate more clearly what that person believes. A lot of times, a person’s worldview is based on the viewpoints of their parents or others who have influenced them throughout their life. Bodie Hodge former mechanical engineer now works at Answers in Genesis. Jeff asks Bodie how he went from engineering to being a Christian apologist. Jeff asks Bodie to share why he is so passionate about apologetics. The Great Dinosaur Mystery Solved by Ken Hamm Grea resource for men and kids. Another great tool for answering these questions from Genesis is the Strand Study Bible which you can get here only at MenUnplugged.net The key is the interpretation of the evidence. Soft tissue in dinosaur bones good evidence of divine creation. Bishop Bell’s tomb at Carlisle Cathedral in northern England. Bishop Bell is actually buried in the church. Skeptics a lot of times want to mock what we believe as Christians. What is the significance of believing in creation versus evolution. Bodie says if there was a big bang theory there would be no right and wrong. Jeff asks what evidence is there to support young earth creationism versus other theories. Bodie says have a proper understanding of the evidence. So often we are told the secular interpretation of it and just accept it. Look at rock layers from a flood. When we look at the evidence everything makes sense that the earth is young. Coal, oil, fossil formation, canyons, stalagmites, etc. Tower of Babel - historical and archeological evidence on it. Can trace these people groups all around the world. A chat about Noah, his sons and his grandsons. Bodie Hodge says that when people started to buy in a evolutionary worldview racism started to explode. Jeff talks about Genesis 11, Genesis 1:26 and Genesis 1:1 using the Hebrew word Elohim the composite unity word for God. Showing the Triune Godhead. How using these verses are a good tool to share the Gospel to someone of another faith. Great resource for every Christian being published this year. Welcome to Episode 034 of the “Awakening with Nathanael Wolf” podcast and radio broadcast. In this episode, Nathanael continues to teach on the truly amazing meaning of salvation. In this episode, you’ll discover: Salvation is complete and experiential union with God, through Jesus Christ, in the Holy Spirit. Salvation is to be “in Christ”, which is essentially relational. And, since Christ is a member of the Triune Godhead, to be in Christ necessitates participation in the Trinitarian life of God, which again is essentially relational, three persons-in-relation to one another. This not a form of pantheism (which says, “all things are God—and I am too”), but it is an expression of panentheism, the belief or doctrine that God is greater than the universe and includes and interpenetrates it (which says, “God is in me, I am in God, and God is in all created things”). Notable episode quotes: “The Word of God was made man and he who was Son of God was made Son of Man united to the Word of God, in order that man should receive adoption and thereby become the Son of God.” -Irenaeus of Lyon (202 A.D.) Welcome to Episode 033 of the “Awakening with Nathanael Wolf” podcast and radio broadcast. In this episode, Nathanael continues to teach on the truly amazing meaning of salvation. In this episode, you’ll discover: Salvation, as to it's very essence, is personal union with God. Since God is ultimately a personal being, salvational must be seen as personal union with a personal God. Salvation is relational, not to mean that it is a mere relationship, like an acquaintance with a neighbor or friend, but since in salvation we are born of God, it is being related at the level of our state of being, spiritual relatives of God, in a family existence by an act of generation, sons and daughters of the Most High, born of God's love for God's love. Notable episode quotes: Salvation is to be “in Christ”, which is essentially relational. And, since Christ is a member of the Triune Godhead, to be in Christ necessitates participation in the Trinitarian life of God, which again is essentially relational, three persons-in-relation to one another. One of the more difficult aspects of Christianity to understand is the Triune nature of God. One God exists in three persons, or essences: God the Father (Yahweh), God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit. But does the Bible teach the doctrine or is it a late invention of the church? Some claim, […]
A daily devotional through the recorded words Jesus spoke while He walked alongside us. Our website http://alittlewalkwithgod.com. Thanks for joining me today for "A Little Walk with God." I'm your host Richard Agee. Have you ever thought about what our world would be like if Adam and Eve had not disobeyed God. What would this place be like if Adam carried out God's plan from the beginning? Scripture John 5:25-29 Jesus: I tell you the truth: a new day is imminent—in fact, it has arrived—when the voice of the Son of God will penetrate death's domain, and everyone who hears will live. You see, the Father radiates with life; and He also animates the Son of God with the same life-giving beauty and power to exercise judgment over all of creation. Indeed, the Son of God is also the Son of Man. If this sounds amazing to you, what is even more amazing is that when the time comes, those buried long ago will hear His voice through all the rocks, sod, and soil and step out of decay into resurrection. When this hour arrives, those who did good will be resurrected to life, and those who did evil will be resurrected to judgment. Devotional That phrase in Jesus' words today, “the Father radiates with life; and He also animates the Son of God with the same life-giving beauty and power to exercise judgment over all of creation”... made me think about those opening questions today. What if Adam had not disobeyed? What would our world be like? What did God really want from humankind? The Father radiates with life Triune Godhead present at creation Created life, not death Death entered the cosmos as a consequence of man's disobedience, not God's creative act Intends for us to live, not die The voice of God penetrates even dead, inanimate objects, death's domain, to restore life Think about how seeds burst from the ground using nutrients from dead and decayed plants and animals Life comes from death by a creative act of the Father Jesus talks about an amazing time to come, though He will return The dead will be resurrected The good to life The evil to judgment God never intended for us to die. That was our doing through disobedience. But God's plan is to restore those who believe in His restorative plan. Those who will follow Him and worship Him will be restored to life eternally. It's our choice to believe or not. What's your choice today? If you want to learn more about my church, you can find us at SAF.church. If you like the devotional, share it with someone. If you don't, tell me. I hope you'll join me again tomorrow for "A Little Walk with God."
Welcome to Part Three in this 3-part mini-series within a series concerning the Mysterious Member of the Trinity, AKA The Holy Spirit. As you will hear in this PODCAST, here in the Upper Room Discourse, Jesus presented to His disciples the first extended discussion of the Holy Spirit to be found anywhere in the Bible. Yes, the Holy Spirit was very present and quite active in the Old Testament, making His first appearance in second verse of the Bible, Genesis 1:2. But not-so-strangely enough, there is within the pages of the Bible no extended discussion of the Holy Spirit until we break the seal on John 14-17, the Upper Room Discourse. I say not-so-strangely because of a tantalizing little detail that Jesus shared with His men right in the middle of the Upper Room Discourse, in John 15:26 (CEV): “I will send you the Spirit who comes from the Father and shows what is true. The Spirit will help you and will tell you about Me.” The Holy Spirit, third person in the Triune Godhead, did not inspire the biblical writers in either the Old nor the New Testaments to write about Himself; He inspired them to write about Jesus. So it is not-so-strange, is not surprising, that it’s not until the 43rd book of the Bible (John), in the final Gospel of the four (John), and in the last of Jesus’ sermons (the Upper Room Discourse) before we are greeted with, and treated to, an exposition of the person and purpose of the Holy Spirit. BTW, given that the Jesus-mandated-mission of the Holy Spirit is (Jesus’ words, not mine) “to tell you about Me,” I must briefly interject a most important word of caution concerning various ministries, certain denominations, and some peoples’ personal prophetic pronouncements. Please remember that depending upon your web browser and connection speed, it may take up to 60 seconds for this podcast to begin to play. God bless you richly as you listen.
How interesting that during the tribulation Satan attempts to counterfeit the Triune Godhead by his wicked alliance with the antichrist and false prophet.
