Episode #220 of the PricePlow Podcast brings Ben Kane and guest host Joey Savage to Washington, DC for the 2026 NPA (Natural Products Association) Fly-In Day. Their guest on the US Capitol steps at sunset: Uday Gosalia, founder of UGo Beyond and a proud advisor to Future Nutra. This year’s trip had a sharper edge than most. For the first time in several years, the industry came to DC specifically in opposition to active legislation, not just to make a general case. Two bills are in play: Senator Dick Durbin’s Dietary Supplement Listing Act of 2026 (S.3677), which would require every supplement SKU registered with the FDA before market entry, and the Dietary Supplement Regulatory Uniformity Act (H.R. 7366), introduced by Rep. Nick Langworthy, which needs a Senate companion to stop states from layering their own supplement restrictions on top of federal law. The conversation covers those two bills, the drug preclusion clause risk, what actually happens when you explain DSHEA to a senator’s staffer, and why consistent DC presence matters more than any single meeting. Our NPA Fly-In Day preparation guide and Episode #100 with NPA CEO Dan Fabricant offer essential background on PricePlow’s history at these events. Holly and Greg both support this idea, and it's gaining steam among Senators on both sides of the aisle. The proposal is this: if the government shut downs, lawmakers will be restricted from leaving Washington, D.C. until the government reopens. Deseret News congressional correspondent Cami Mondeaux explains the idea and whether or not it might have enough support to pass.
Did you know that the January 6 attack on the US Capitol didn't happen?! That must be the case because there's no mention of the prosecutions of any of the January 6 rioters, attackers, or insurrectionists on DOJ's website - they just deleted it. Apparently, they think they can just erase it from American history by deleting it from a website. This is a sign of weakness, not strength. What's actually in your food, and who's protecting the companies that put it there?I sit down with Johanna Hellrigl, chef, restaurateur, board member of the Environmental Working Group, and founder of Ama, the mission-driven Northern Italian restaurant four blocks from the US Capitol, to talk about what's really happening in our food system, why your cookware matters as much as your ingredients, and how a woman who grew up in a Michelin-quality kitchen ended up fighting pesticide immunity bills and plastic migration in the same breath. This conversation goes deeper than clean eating. Johanna walks through the specific decisions she makes every day, from the containers in her kitchen to the farms that grow her tomatoes, and explains why the real model for healthy eating has been sitting in Italian kitchens for centuries. She is building a case study that nourishing food, done with integrity, can also be a viable business. If you have ever felt overwhelmed by the food system or paralyzed by conflicting information, this episode gives you a clear-headed, practical place to start. What we explore:- How heat, fat, acid, and time create the conditions for plastic and chemicals to migrate directly into your food.- Why 99% of food chemicals enter the US supply through a regulatory loophole that bypasses proper safety review.- What rebuilding your gut microbiome actually requires, and why what happens in your gut controls far more than most people realize.- How Johanna runs a restaurant rooted in love without sacrificing standards, consistency, or accountability.- Why voting with your dollars and contacting your representatives are two of the most direct actions you can take right now.About Johanna Hellrigl:Johanna Hellrigl is a chef, restaurateur, and culinary advocate redefining what restaurants can stand for. She is the chef-owner of Ama, an award-winning Northern Italian restaurant in Washington, DC, named a James Beard Foundation semifinalist for Best Chef Mid-Atlantic in 2026 and recognized by Gambero Rosso for authenticity. Before opening Ama, she spent years in international democracy-building work across 61 countries, an experience that deepened her belief that food is one of the most powerful tools for connection and change. She sits on the board of the Environmental Working Group and works with the Plastic Pollution Coalition, bringing the same rigor she applies in her kitchen to the fight for a safer, more transparent food system.Connect with Johanna Hellrigl:Instagram (Chef Johanna): https://www.instagram.com/chefjohannahellrigl/Instagram (Ama Restaurant): https://www.instagram.com/amarestaurant.bar/Website: https://amarestaurant.barTimestamps00:00 Intro01:00 Growing Up in a Michelin Kitchen05:08 How 61 Countries Brought Her Back to Food08:00 Reclaiming the Family Meal13:17 Pesticide Loopholes and Who Pays the Price20:12 Finding Common Ground on Food Policy29:00 Plastic, Cookware, and Cutting Board Basics37:40 Meal Prep That Actually Works43:40 Why She Opened Ama56:23 Love, Standards, and Consistency in the Kitchen01:01:06 What's Really Inside a Plate of Pasta01:08:33 Healing the Gut After Antibiotic Overload01:15:39 EWG, Plastic Pollution Coalition, and How to Get Loud–This episode is sponsored by:RITUAL: So sit back and raise a glass to your new evening Ritual with Magnesium+. We all know that Trump orchestrated and launched an attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, to try to retain power after he lost a presidential election. We know that in the aftermath of the Capitol attack, thousands and thousands of FBI agents and local police officers around the country, scores of prosecutors, paralegals, legal assistants, grand jurors, trial jurors and judges - tens of thousands of people - worked to hold accountable Trump's angry mob. More than 1600 of them were convicted at trial or pleaded guilty to their crimes. Then Donald Trump wiped it all away with the most unjust pardons in our nation's history. And even after Trump delivered those searingly unjust pardons, he wasn't done. He then he had his dirty DOJ leadership wrongfully terminate or demote FBI agents and federal prosecutors who did the hard work of the American people holding those rioters accountable for their crimes.Glenn sat down with a former colleague and friend, Greg Rosen. Full Text of Readings Sixth Sunday of Easter Lectionary: 55 The Saint of the day is Saint Damien de Veuster of Moloka'i Saint Damien de Veuster of Moloka'i's Story When Joseph de Veuster was born in Tremelo, Belgium, in 1840, few people in Europe had any firsthand knowledge of leprosy, Hansen's disease. By the time he died at the age of 49, people all over the world knew about this disease because of him. They knew that human compassion could soften the ravages of this disease. Forced to quit school at age 13 to work on the family farm, Joseph entered the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary six years later, taking the name of a fourth-century physician and martyr. When his brother Pamphile, a priest in the same congregation, fell ill and was unable to go to the Hawaiian Islands as assigned, Damien quickly volunteered in his place. In May 1864, two months after arriving in his new mission, Damien was ordained a priest in Honolulu and assigned to the island of Hawaii. In 1873, he went to the Hawaiian government's leper colony on the island of Moloka'i, set up seven years earlier. Part of a team of four chaplains taking that assignment for three months each year, Damien soon volunteered to remain permanently, caring for the people's physical, medical, and spiritual needs. In time, he became their most effective advocate to obtain promised government support. Soon the settlement had new houses and a new church, school and orphanage. Morale improved considerably. A few years later, he succeeded in getting the Franciscan Sisters of Syracuse, led by Mother Marianne Cope, to help staff this colony in Kalaupapa. Saint Damien contracted Hansen's disease and died of its complications. As requested, he was buried in Kalaupapa, but in 1936 the Belgian government succeeded in having his body moved to Belgium. Part of Damien's body was returned to his beloved Hawaiian brothers and sisters after his beatification in 1995. When Hawaii became a state in 1959, it selected Damien of Moloka'i as one of its two representatives in the Statuary Hall at the US Capitol. Damien was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI on October 11, 2009. Reflection Some people thought Saint Damien was a hero for going to Moloka'i and others thought he was crazy. When a Protestant clergyman wrote that Damien was guilty of immoral behavior, Robert Louis Stevenson vigorously defended him in an “Open Letter to Dr. Hyde.”Saint of the Day, Copyright Franciscan Media

Misha Glenny and guests discuss the laws that Hammurabi (c1810 - c1750 BC), King of Babylon, had carved into a black basalt pillar in present day Iraq and which, since its rediscovery in 1901 in present day Iran, has affirmed Hammurabi's reputation as one of the first great lawmakers. Visitors to the Louvre in Paris can see it on display with almost 300 rules in cuneiform, covering anything from ‘an eye for an eye' to how to handle murder, divorce, witchcraft, false accusations and more. The Code of Hammurabi, as it became known, made such an impression in Mesopotamia that it was copied and shared for a millennium after his death and, since its reemergence, Hammurabi and his Code have been commemorated in the US Capitol and the International Court of Justice.WithMartin Worthington Professor in Middle Eastern Studies at Trinity College DublinFrances Reynolds Shillito Fellow and Associate Professor of Assyriology at the University of Oxford and Senior Research Fellow at The Queen's CollegeAnd Selena Wisnom Lecturer in the Heritage of the Middle East at the University of LeicesterProducer: Simon TillotsonReading list:Zainab Bahrani, Mesopotamia: Ancient Art and Architecture (Thames and Hudson, 2017)Dominique Charpin, Hammurabi of Babylon (I.B. America's present president is like those egos who feel entitled to carve their name into every park bench they sit on, apparently to “make their mark” and shout to the world, “I wuz here!”Indeed, Trump has demanded that our government patch his “Donald J. Trump” onto such public facilities as the Kennedy Center, the Institute of Peace, Dulles Airport, Penn Station, the Hudson Tunnel – and he might as well add the US Capitol since he treats Congress like his personal possession.Insecurity is what's driving his egomaniacal rebranding frenzy. As Trump candidly explains, “You've got to put your name on stuff or no one will remember you.”Oh, Donald, like the demagogic Joe McCarthy and other narcissistic politicos, you're destined to be long remembered… and mocked! Moreover, those vainglorious, gold-plated Trump nameplates you're tacking onto every public space will soon be unceremoniously stripped off and dumped into the trash bin of history. My friend, Fred Harris, a great populist senator from Oklahoma, told about the fickle nature of political fame. It was a true story about a governor who backed a boondoggle construction project after lobbyists promised to name the structure after him. They did, but as soon as the governor left office, his name was removed. Fred said if anyone ever dedicated a bridge or building to him, he wanted his name built into the structure itself, so if they later tried to remove his name, “the damned thing would fall down.”So don't despair that this president seems omnipresent. This too, will pass. Keep whacking at the autocratic, plutocratic structure of Trumpism – it's not built to withstand the winds time, much less the winds of democratic rebellion.Jim Hightower's Lowdown is a reader-supported publication. More To The Story: A year ago this month, President Donald Trump granted clemency to nearly 1,600 people responsible for the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol. University of Chicago political science professor Robert Pape argues that Trump's decision to pardon and set free the insurrectionists, including hundreds who had been found guilty of assaulting police, could be the most consequential decision of his term. On this week's More To The Story, Pape talks with host Al Letson about how America's transformation to a white minority is fueling the nation's growing political violence, the remarkable political geography of the insurrectionists, and the glimmers of hope he's found in his research that democracy can survive this pivotal moment in history.Producer: Josh Sanburn | Editor: Kara McGuirk-Allison | Theme music: Fernando Arruda and Jim Briggs | Copy editor: Nikki Frick | Digital producer: Artis Curiskis | Deputy executive producer: Taki Telonidis | Executive producer: Brett Myers | Executive editor: James West | Host: Al LetsonListen: How Trump's January 6 Pardons Hijacked History (More To The Story)Read: Both the Left and the Right Are Targeted by Political Violence. In typical "tail-wagging-the-dog" fashion, Donald Trump tries to distract the attention of the American people from his many and mounting problems by launching an unlawful attack on a foreign sovereign nation, Venezuela. He then goes on TV on the morning of January 6th 2026, and gives a long, rambling press conference - his decline and dementia on full display - and tries to distract the American people from the fact that today marks the fifth anniversary of Trump's attack on and refusal to stop once in progress the United States Capitol. But Trump's distractions will fail. The people of the United States, who are dedicated to the rule of law and determined to preserve American democracy, will not be distracted. To that end, a group of us will be at an event at the National Press Club in DC to commemorate the January 6 anniversary. The event is being hosted by Jim Acosta and can be live streamed on Jim's Substack and YouTube channels. It's the fifth anniversary of the Capitol Riot. As Trump part two has been in power for a year and he's begun a new era of American empire, we're re-posting our take on this defining moment in American history. From the 2021 episode: And we thought 2020 was bumpy. In this rush episode, we talk about the shocks happening in the liberal democratic capitalist system. How the ruling class is destabilized by Trump and the far right actions at Capitol Hill this week, and how they are responding to maintain order and their own power as quickly as possible. Last week, we saw organized by war criminal and former Veep and Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney(!) all ten living Secretaries of Defense to call on Trump and officials in the military establishment to ensure an orderly transition of power (he didn't). We saw the National Association of Manufacturers, a notorious anti-worker anti-liberal Democratic institution, issue a statement calling for the swift enactment of the 25th Amendment of Donald Trump over inciting riots at the Capitol. And we saw lots more anger and outrage in the political and corporate spheres aimed at Trump and his supporters. Between the crises of COVID-19, a crashing economy, the climate crisis, a growing far right clearly willing to use deadly violence and these shocks to the system, there are many forces vying for what kind of world is next for us. As the great Gil Scott-Heron told us, “America leads the world in shocks. Unfortunately, America does not lead the world in deciphering the cause of shock.” That's what Green and Red Podcast will be doing. -----------

The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the 6th and final study session on William Rosenau's Tonight We Bombed The US Capitol. Gus T. first nabbed this book in 2024 while we were reading Harry Dunn's Standing My Ground - which details the January 6th, 2021 Terrorist Insurrection at the US Capitol Building. Dunn reminds readers that gangs of White hooligans previously attacked the Capitol building. Rosenau's non-fiction investigation provides comprehensive details about the Whites who carried out this barbaric attack - which also included their participation in breaking Assata Shakur out of a New Jersey prison. This read may help us better understand the current group of Whites loosely branded as "Antifa" and allow us to reconsider most non-white people's bedrock belief that: "Not All White People Are Racist." Last week, detailed the members continued attacks in the 1980's - which included bombing the South African embassy in New York, an NYPD facility and the US Capitol. Still no evidence of how any of these shenanigans helps non-white people solve problems or moves us closer to Justice. Listeners and Gus noted how uncodified and reckless these White members were with regards to storing explosives. We also highlighted that when these White Terrorists weren't out bombing and promoting anti-sex (LGBTQ), they hid in towns like Baltimore and New Haven, Connecticut with high populations of poor black people. It doesn't seem like too many of these White criminals died behind bars. Some of them stayed on the lam for life. #COINTELPRO #TheCOWS16Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 720.716.7300 CODE 564943#

More To The Story: Detroit pastor Lorenzo Sewell is one of the most prominent Black conservatives in President Donald Trump's orbit. It all started last summer when the president visited Sewell's 180 Church while campaigning in Detroit. A month later, Sewell spoke at the Republican National Convention. And in January, he prayed for the new president during his inauguration inside the US Capitol. As Sewell's voice echoed around the domed rotunda, the prayer sounded familiar to many. That's because Sewell adapted Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous “I Have a Dream” speech. As Trump dismantles DEI policies around the country and pushes efforts to erase Black history from schools and museums, Sewell remains one of the president's most prominent Black defenders and argues that the Trump presidency is actually improving Black Americans' lives. On this week's More To The Story, Sewell sits down with host Al Letson to talk about his upbringing as a drug dealer in Detroit, his conversion to Christianity, and his inauguration prayer. Letson challenges Sewell's ideas about racism, his support of Charlie Kirk, and his defense of the Trump administration's rollback of DEI policies.Producer: Josh Sanburn | Editor: Kara McGuirk-Allison | Theme music: Fernando Arruda and Jim Briggs | Copy editor: Nikki Frick | Digital producer: Artis Curiskis | Deputy executive producer: Taki Telonidis | Executive producer: Brett Myers | Executive editor: James West | Host: Al Letson Donate today at Revealnews.org/more Subscribe to our weekly newsletter at Revealnews.org/weekly Follow us on Instagram and Bluesky Watch: I Spent a Week With Black Republicans (Mother Jones)Listen: Red, Black, and Blue (Reveal)Read: Trump Shuts Down Diversity Programs Across Government (Mother Jones)Listen: The Bible Says So…or Does It? Donald Trump's pardons endanger all Americans. He pardons crypto currency crooks who endanger our national security, he pardons convicted felons who possess firearms, he pardons business executives who defraud nursing homes. After pardoning more that 1500 of the "boots" of the insurrection - the angry mob he set on the US Capitol on January 6 - Trump has now pardoned 77 of the "suits" of the insurrection - the attorneys and other white collar criminals who were part of Trump's corrupt scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Glenn sat down with Liz Oyer, former Pardon Attorney for the United States, to discuss these and other pardon-related topics.
