Brandon isn't bothered by Joaquin Phoenix and Jose isn't bothered by Woody Norman so this movie is a pleasant surprise for Blake. Join us for another adventure, C'mon.

Send us a textMore child trauma? Two episodes in a row? Apparently, we just can't get enough. When little Peter hears knocking, and then a voice, coming from his wall, his parents seem desperate to discourage him from pursuing an explanation. But, as the tagline for the movie says, "sooner or later, family secrets creep out." And in this movie, something actually does creep out! Lizzy Caplan, Antony Starr, and Cleopatra Coleman star in Cobweb (2023).

Woody Norman, who portrayed Peter in the movie, “Cobweb” (2023) … Only 14 years old and he's an award-winning actor! How impressive is that? This talented individual is going places, and I would love to see him in a lot more horror movies. With his personality and aptitude, he is definitely Oscar worthy! In this intriguing interview, he told me had fun working on set with the movie. I touched on the subject about bullying for a second stating how his role may have had the potential to inspire others to stand up for themselves (without the pushing down the stairs and breaking bones). Ands which brought up a personal matter to me from the past. Moreover, Woody has a great strength of personality which makes him definitely a rising star in the film industry. Woody Norman is starring in an upcoming adventure movie called “The Electric State” alongside Millie Bobby Brown, Stanley Tucci and Chris Pratt which is slated for release sometime next year. Make sure to check out his other roles in horror: The Last Voyage of the Demeter and The Small Hand (Ghost Story). Overall, fantastic interview! He performed phenomenally in Cobweb, and I wish nothing but success and prosperity in his future. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/southjerseyhorror/message

Ben & Rob climb the walls of ‘Cobweb', a horror movie that distributor Lionsgate has done its best to bury under the pumpkin patch. Starring Lizzy Caplan, Anthony Starr, Cleopatra Coleman and Woody Norman, ‘Cobweb' tells the story of Peter, a young boy living with bizarre parents uniquely ill-equipped to help him with the monster living in his walls. Produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg under their ‘Point Grey' brand, it starts out as a psychological horror and ends up a beautifully bloody creature feature. But why have Lionsgate done so little in promoting this little b-movie genre gem? Is Anthony Starr one the best dramatic actors working today? And why does this movie remind Ben of ‘JAWS'? Ever been on a bad ocean cruise? I guarantee it wasn't as bad as the voyage in The Last Voyage of The Demeter. You may have heard of the Demeter briefly in other Dracula movies but this movie gives you the full story. The Demeter is the ship that transported Dracula from Romania to England according to Bram Stoker's Dracula novel. In that novel, there is a small section containing the captain's log from the Demeter, telling a story of an evil killing his crew. This movie takes that small section and turns into a 2 hour movie. Corey Hawkins, from Straight Outta Compton and The Walking Dead, plays Dr. Clemens who joins the crew under Captain Eliot, played by Liam Cunningham from Game Of Thrones. Further and further into the voyage, more and more creatures are found dead with bite marks and soon the crew start becoming victims of Dracula. The doctor have to try to fight off the evil might of Dracula with the help of a girl from a Transylvanian village Dracula was keeping as a food source. Is this movie worth saving from the sleep of the undead or should you just put a stake in it's heart? Check out this spoiler-free review to find out. This also stars David Dastmalchian, Aisling Franciosi, Chris Walley, Stefan Kapicic, Jon Jon Briones, Woody Norman, Javier Botet, Martin Furulund, Nikolai Nikolaeff, Graham Turner, Andy Murray, Nicolo Pasetti.

Tristan Fidler and Simon Miraudo take on black-and-white indie cinema and a gut-busting prank show in this week's Movie Squad podcast. (Breakfast host Taylah Strano even chimes in with her take on the new video game adaptation Uncharted, starring Tom Holland.) But first, Tristan reviews Mike Mills' semi-autobiographical C'mon C'mon, starring Joaquin Phoenix as a documentarian who looks after his estranged sister's son (played by Woody Norman) and discovers the highs and lows of parenting. But is Joaquin's Big Uncle Energy enough to make the film worthwhile? Then, Simon explains why Jackass Forever is better than "four or five" of 2022's Best Picture Oscar nominees. Can he convince Taylah and Tristan that this latest entry in the gross-out stunt-and-prank franchise is actually a "triumph of the human spirit"? Listen in to find out! Both films are now showing in Australian cinemas.

Within the first few moments of speaking with writer-director Mike Mills, you vibe with his calm energy and gentle spirit, therefore making it a very soul enriching experience to have during an interview. This feeling isn't a stranger to most who have seen his films, as Mills has been making audiences feel this way over the last sixteen years since his debut feature Thumbsucker. In taking time between his debut and his next three projects, he was able to find distinct connections that span into grand ideas about not just the world his character inhabits, but our modern culture and society. Films like Beginners and 20th Century Women are, respectively, pieces of art used as an ode to his father and mother. The former earned massive acclaim, including the late Christopher Plummer's Oscar win for Best Supporting Actor. The latter was hailed as one of the best films of the last decade and landed Mills his first Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. But it is his latest film, C'mon C'mon, that finds him examining new territory, as Mills is making a film about a new family member, his relationship with his child, thus his most personal film to date. Within C'mon C'mon, we follow a journalist named Johnny (Joaquin Phoenix) and his precocious nephew Jesse (Woody Norman) as their bond grows while Jesse's mom Viv (Gaby Hoffman) is tending to the needs of Jesse's struggling father (Scoot McNairy). Built within this simple narrative lies some of the most honest screenwriting of the year as Mills is able to balance this familial dynamic as well as the difficult themes he suggests about humanities future and how unsure our world is, with no solutions in sight. From talking with him, he is someone who cares deeply about his craft, and the connection his work has with audiences across the world. In doing so, he understands the human soul better than anyone working today in film right now. C'mon C'mon is, as stated in our review, “the best film of his career” and “crafts one of the best screenplays of the last ten to fifteen years.” In my conversation with the writer-director, Mills spoke about his creative process, his inspirations for the film, and tells stories and antidotes of his cast, including the relationship between the veteran actor, Joaquin Phoenix and the newcomer of the year, Woody Norman. Here's hoping the one time Oscar nominee can add not just another Oscar nomination to his leaguer, but a gold statue as well, thus honoring him and one of the best films of 2021. C'mon C'mon is currently playing only in theaters from A24.

Joaquin Phoenix and Woody Norman are an uncle and nephew who end up bonding while thrown together by circumstance. Ryan joins Ashley & Matt to discuss this expertly-crafted new film by Mike Mills.
We begin today with another edition of Midday at the Movies, our monthly look at films and filmmaking. We're joined again by two of our favorite movie aficionados: Ann Hornaday, film critic for The Washington Post and author of the great movie-goers guide, Talking Pictures: How to Watch Movies, and Jed Dietz, the founder and former director of the Maryland Film Festival and Parkway Theater. Our guests discuss a new survey showing American moviegoing crowds have still not returned in pre-COVID numbers to their local moviehouses — and the numbers suggest that a sizeable percentage of them might never return. We also consider a few of the best new holiday-season releases, including Belfast - at the Charles and area theaters only - director Kenneth Branagh's semi-autobiographical memoir of growing up amid the sectarian violence of Northern Ireland in the 1960s; The Humans, an indie gem from director/playwright Stephen Karam (based on his Tony Award-winning play) that's now streaming on SHOWTIME; and The Power of the Dog,director Jane Campion's powerful western drama starring Benedict Cumberpatch, now showing at the Parkway and streaming on Netflix. Ann Hornaday joins us on our digital line. Jed Dietz joins us on Zoom. Some other notable new releases we didn't have time to talk about: Cmon C'mon, a movingdrama about the relationship between a troubled journalist and his young nephew, shot in moody black and white by director Mike Mills, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Woody Norman, and now playing at the Charles and local theaters; House of Gucci, director Ridley Scott's lavish tale of decadence, betrayal and murder in the family of the legendary designer, starring Lady Gaga, Adam Driver and Al Pacino, now at the Parkway and other local theaters; Get Back, director Peter Jackson's 3-part, 8-hourdocumentary about The Beatles, now streaming on Disney Plus; and West Side Story, director Steven Spielberg's long-awaited remake of the 1957 hit Broadway musical (later an Oscar-sweeping 1961 film) featuring music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and a new screenplay by Tony Kushner. The film opens in theaters (only) on December 10. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Mike Mills is a screenwriter and director, but could be considered first and foremost an actor's collaborator. Not only have his films produced some of the most naturalistic performances in recent memory, he's the kind of filmmaker who follows actors' leads, singing their praises at every step of the page-to-screen process. “Whatever feels real and alive to them, that's where I'm gonna go,” he says in this revealing interview. He also grapples with the mysteries inherent in filmmaking: “As a director-writer person, one would think you know everything about your movie...and you don't.” With a background in visual art that transitioned to music videos, Mike is best known for his award-winning feature films “Thumbsuckers,” “Beginners,” and “20th Century Women.” He's turned elements of his life into autobiographically inspired stories, including the newly released “C'mon C'mon” from A24, starring Joaquin Phoenix, Gaby Hoffmann, and Woody Norman.
