On October 7, 2020, Matt and Josh were guests at Creative Works' Amusement 360, an "event that brings the best together to educate, inspire, and share the tools for success". The overarching topic was about gathering both guest and employee feedback and some best practices for both, but also just how similar it is to care for and engage guests AND employees... because both are human beings. We also talk about asking for reviews, employee training and consistency. Lots of talk about consistency! Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness. Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled. Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled. Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us. Bondservants are to be submissive to their own masters in everything- they are to be well-pleasing, not argumentative, not pilfering, but showing all good faith, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.

The ITF had repeatedly said in its calls for action that June 16 was the deadline for governments to implement the IMO protocols that would make crew changes possible. Now the ITF has increased the pressure speaking directly to the over 200,000 seafarers that it believes are waiting to disembark from the world's ships and return home. The message says, “You have done your job, performed your duties, and accepted that you were unable to return home in the beginning in order to contain the spread of Covid-19 – but no more.” --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

In spite of a potential international catastrophe Potty decides to stay in Mustique.
"FAITH WAS COMPLETED BY ... " Dec. 8 Today we continued meditating on the Epistle of James and his important observations on the quality of faith that a believer needs to have. The Jews were very good at reasoning and talking, we can see that in the speeches of Job’s friends, also in the religious leaders who had encounters with Jesus and had confidence in being “the children of Abraham” [John 8 v.39] It is evident from James’ letter that he saw a need to emphasize that having faith is not just something you talk about and discuss to make sure you have a true faith. You then live your life by building on that faith, showing it by actions as well as words. Next week when we read Peter’s letters we must note his blunt words, “you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for salvation … if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith – more precious than gold that perishes … may be found to result in praise and glory and honour at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” [1 Pet. 1 v.5-7] James challenges, “Show me your faith apart from your works and I will show you my faith by my works” [2 v.18] He becomes very blunt stating “faith apart from works is useless” [v.20] But what does he mean by works? Works alone, apart from faith is also useless – in the eternal sense. A lot of “good works” are encouraged in our part of the world, especially to give money to various charity organisations. These ‘works’ have only value for the here and now. James gives the example of Abraham and all he did in serving God. He did what God asked him to do, even to the point of being ready to offer his son Isaac as a sacrifice! Then James makes the point that his “faith was completed by his works.” [v.22] James then gives an example which is appropriate today in some countries more than others, but may well become world-wide as more and more human governments fail to function properly. He writes, “If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled,’ without giving them the things needed for the body, what benefit is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works is dead.” [v.15-17] Now note what Paul writes on this, “ … as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” [Gal. 6 v.10] Soon we will be reading the last message of Jesus, the challenging book of Revelation! Note Ch. 2 v.23 “I am he who searches mind and heart and I will give to each of you as your works deserve.” That is, “works’ done to complete your faith.

Episode Notes It’s the Two Minute Beer Review! I’m Andrew Burkum, and once again I’m your companion as we face down that massive craft brew aisle in search of the hidden treasures we’ve been missing out on all along. This week we’re taking a look Maui Waui IPA by Altamont Beer Works in Livermore, CA. Is this one the Big Kahuna? Let’s find out!Maui Waui pours clean and clear, almost the color of one of those mass-produced American lagers that we don’t talk about. It smells fruity and tropical. And maybe just a little bit. . .dusty? There’s definitely an earthy undertone in there somewhere. But what about the taste? The aroma suggests a sweetness that is not present in the flavor of the beer. It does have lots of that earthiness that I detected in the scent, but none of the tropical flavors I was hoping for play into the taste at all so far as I can tell. The brewer’s website describes the hops used in this beer as giving “strong aromas and flavors of guava, pineapple and mango. I’m sorry, Altamont, but here at the Two Minute Beer Review we just aren’t tasting it. What is present is a very traditional beer bitterness that starts at the beginning of the sip and hangs around after the swallow. It’s not overpowering but is a very pleasant character if you’re a fan of IPAs. Going back to Altamont’s website, they state that Maui Waui is one of their more popular beers, so maybe this is one time that my tastes are out of line with the larger public. But although I love Altamont and have tasted many fine products from their catalog, Maui Waui is neither a recommend nor a repeat for me. It’s a 6.5% in the ABV category, so if you like it you’ll be able to enjoy more than one without needing a rest in between. Well that’s all for this week, but I hope you’ll join me next week as I try Velvet Merkin Bourbon Barrel Aged Oatmeal Stout by Firestone Walker brewing in Paso Robles, CA. Is this one . . . you know what, I can’t even come up with a clean joke about this one’s name. Just join me next week to find out more about it. Episode Notes It’s the Two Minute Beer Review!I’m Andrew Burkum, and once again I’m your companion as we face down that massive craft brew aisle in search of the hidden treasures we’ve been missing out on all along. This week we’re taking a look at Shot Away IPA by Altamont Beer Works in Livermore, CA. Will this beer make us scream out a chorus of Gimme Shelter? Let’s find out!Shot Away is a nice clear yellow to slightly amber color in the glass. It’s a little juicy in the nose, but there’s not a whole bunch else going on in that area. But what about the taste? Shot Away is bitter and crisp at the front with a solid malt backbone. It also has a very nice bitterness that hangs around after the swallow. It pays off all of that juiciness that shows up in the smell as well. Altamont Beer Works describes the beer as a “True West Coast IPA,” and I think the label fits well. The bitterness is balancing, not overwhelming and the overall impression of the flavor is juicy and bold. Shot Away is a perfectly serviceable IPA. It’s neither the best nor the worst that I have tasted in the style, but it is absolutely a good choice if you just want to grab a nice, refreshing unpretentious IPA for the upcoming hot summer afternoons. As such, I’ll place it on the recommended list.Well that’s all for this week, but I hope you’ll join me next week as I taste another great craft beer! Hey! This must be some kind of a joke. "Humor That Works"? Well, it's not a joke -- even though we launched this minisode on April Fool's Day - which ALSO happens to be the release date of (AN)DREW TARVIN's new book aptly titled "Humor That Works: The Missing Skill for Success and Happiness at Work". Click the link above to grab yourself a copy! "The funniest business book I've ever read." says Luann Tarvin , HR manager and Drew's mom. Listen to this minisode plucked from the original conversation between Drew and Lou deemed to be a true Thrive LOUD classic by Lou, Drew and both of their mothers. And a special shout out to Lou's mom, who coincidentally and ironically, acted as a career counselor for Drew Tarvin. When she learned that Drew was going to focus his career on helping instill humor into the workplace, she laughed. *** Connect to Lou Diamond: www.loudiamond.net Subscribe to Thrive LOUD: www.thriveloud.com/podcast

I have very mixed feelings about Facebook at the moment, yet on the plus side I do get to stay in touch with far-flung friends who are an un-ending source of inspiration. One such friend - originally off, but now mostly on line, is Bruce Caswell, who did his social network the massive favour of reminding them, and thankfully me, about the 'Four Agreements', originated by Don Miguel Ruiz.A long-time, blow-away set of aphorisms in my life, I was moved to record and share them through my 'Radio for a World that Works' podcast, to deepen my appreciation and inwardly ingest their inspiring energy. They are:1. Be impeccable with your word.2. Don’t take anything personally.3. Don’t make assumptions.4. Always do your best.(They are further fleshed out in an infographic that's included in my Steemit article: https://steemit.com/thefouragreements/@carlmunson/how-could-anyone-disagree-with-the-four-agreements)Don Miguel Ruiz is a renowned spiritual teacher and internationally bestselling author of the “Toltec Wisdom Series,” including: “The Four Agreements,” “The Mastery of Love,” “The Voice of Knowledge,” “The Four Agreements Companion Book,” “The Circle of Fire,” and “The Fifth Agreement.” Would the latter be a cheeky bit of what marketers, like Bruce, call 'extending the product life cycle?!Anyway good luck and massive gratitude to Don Miguel, who has spent the past three decades guiding students to personal freedom through his profound insights regarding the nature of human reality. The Toltec Wisdom books have been published in 40 languages worldwide. The youngest of thirteen children, Ruiz was born in rural Mexico to parents who were healers and practitioners of ancient Toltec traditions. As a young adult, he graduated from medical school in Mexico City and practiced neurosurgery with his older brother in Tijuana. A near-fatal car crash forever changed the direction of his life, however, causing him to leave medicine and to examine the essential truth about life and humanity. With his mother’s help, and through her ancestral teachings, he discovered his own path to awareness, which evolved into a deep understanding of the physical universe and the virtual world of the mind.First published in 1997, The Four Agreements book has since sold over six million copies in the United States and seven million worldwide.More at: https://www.thefouragreements.com/Bruce Caswell MSc, business development consultant, skilled in coaching, sales & marketing including proposal management can be found on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/brucecaswell/

This week on the podcast, Betsy Corcoran interviews Eduardo Briceño, founder and CEO of Mindset Works, a company that takes university research and turns it into programs for schools. He's bullish on the growth mindset; that's what his company is named after. It's a concept that's becoming increasingly common in education debates today, and as it does, it becomes vulnerable to more misconceptions. We asked Eduardo to come and clarify somethings for us and talk about his own journey with the concept through the nine years Mindset Works has been around. Satyalila reporting from an inspiring retreat at Adhisthana in the UK for a group of volunteers who came together to help Vidyadevi and Kalyanaprabha with editorial work on the first two of the twenty-seven volumes that will make up the entire Complete Works of Sangharakshita. And to to collectively dedicate their efforts - spiritual and practical. We hear about some of what's involved - from the intricacies of critical diacritics in Pali and Sanskrit terms, to the considerable detective work expended on tracking down even the most obscure of footnote references...
