When Queen Elizabeth II was born in 1926, there were years of her childhood that were, compared to other future monarchs, quite normal. After all, she was never supposed to be the Queen. Her father was a second son; her Uncle David would succeed her grandfather, and certainly other male children would come along. And then, in 1930, Elizabeth's parents waited with anticipation to find out the gender of Elizabeth's impending sibling. A boy would be in the line of succession. But the child who arrived was Princess Margaret, who was never supposed to be the daughter and sister of Queens herself, but for the fateful choice her Uncle David would make when Margaret was just six, when everything changed. This episode follows Margaret through a tumultuous childhood, an early doomed romance, and her long, if ill-fated marriage to Antony Armstrong-Jones, eventually the Earl of Snowden. We visit Mustique, the Caribbean island where Margaret's only personal land holdings resided, and meet some of the guests she entertained there. Plus, an assortment of stories about the social life of a notoriously difficult Princess - and why hanging with Margaret wasn't everything it was cracked up to be. It is all going to come back around on your next Dunne Day with Nick's coverage of this Trashy Royal - this is the foundation! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Imagine navigating the world without sight and finding empowerment through a device whispering the visual details straight into your being. That's the reality brought to life by AIC, a transformative assistive technology we're spotlighting this week, designed to give visually impaired individuals a voice to narrate their surroundings. Through my first-hand experience with this remarkable gadget, I take you inside the joyous revelations of someone shopping independently for the first time, selecting groceries not by touch or guesswork, but guided by a personal narrator nestled comfortably on their head. It's a touching reminder of the human spirit's resilience and technology's potential to enrich lives.Meanwhile, the controversy rages as Emad Mustique, the visionary behind Stability AI, questions the longevity of human programming in an AI-dominant future. Brace yourself for an intellectual tussle that explores whether our children's education should still emphasize coding skills when artificial intelligence is already crafting over forty percent of the code on GitHub. Mustique's bold statements are a prelude to a broader conversation about how we must evolve with the ever-changing landscape of technology. New Sode of Glitter Ledger Season 3 Episode 4 with Kyle Downey.  It's been a busy week with Airdrops of Jupiter in her hair not found at Fredrick Fekkai and other insufferable tragedies.  I've been on the lam in between Gstaad and Sidi Bou Said with ample bosom time to short the Vix, chainsmoke and ponder matters that have been plaguing my icy yet asbergers soul-Is there Valium in the metaverse?-Should I do the Monologue from Fight Club when describing my investment thesis? -Would well-dressed commies have supported decentralization?-Do Merkle Trees grow in Palm Beach?-Can you rip cigs on a (poorly decorated) private plane?-Why aren't their more female led high thread count rug pulls? Then, I changed the sign above my stepdaughter's canopy bed from Live Laugh Love to Read Write Own painted by my dear friend Jeff Koons.  I came to the painstaking realization that we are indeed in the Taylor Swift New Era of l'internet. Why? Because if le bebe can can become OnlyFans celebrity on Urbit, trade perps on Dexes, and achieve gains that ultimately finance a home in Mustique alongside Princess Marge, and Jae Kwon, then I must release my misconception that any smart contract needs to be reviewed by my Attorney. I digress, Back at Glitter Ledger Headquarters, reminiscing over a former lover who was the Head of Risk Management at Lehman brothers, I realize that if I want my stepdaughter to have a profitable Web3 Only Fans career, then I must become risk averse diverse head nurse.I thought of no guest more appropriate than a former high tiered Morgan Stanley Does Asia IT Quant, with a light stint on Silicon Alley, turned Risk Crypto Entrepreneur. Kyle Downey CEO of Cloudwall. He gives Daddy of DeFi energy with not quite silver hair that is palpable and respected. We met at the St Regis during an Aave Flashloans and Dog Lover meet up  I posted on a dark web subeddit thread hosted by me and my nanny. Wearing beat up Louboutins I described my fervent anger there were no sophisticated digital asset risk management platforms for my Quasi Family Office in Guantanamo Bay.  This dapper older man dressed in his own Crypto merch and rich person glasses recognized an incoming panic attack. Serenity, he explained is not only a mindset but a tool that can help you maintain the lifestyle to which you are accustomed.  He went to explain that I could use a state-of-the-art software to efficiently manage intricate portfolios of my digital assets, alongside onlyfans on Urbit to predict where I could fail.. All I need is Serenity, indeed. Read Write Own. Thank you Kyle.

The Crown: The Official Podcast

Whilst holidaying in Mustique, Princess Margaret suffers a stroke and is suddenly forced to reassess her lifestyle. Margaret is keen to recover in anticipation of her seventieth birthday, but the Queen remains concerned that her party-loving sister will not be able to kick the habits of a lifetime in order to heal. As Margaret's health continues to decline, she finds herself slipping back into her memories, back to her secret night out with her sister during the biggest party in history: VE Day 1945. The memories from that evening, and what it taught her about her older sister, comfort her in her final days.   Edith Bowman speaks with co-writer Meriel Sheibani-Clare and director Alex Gabassi about exploring Princess Margaret's final years. Madeleine Bunbury is an English equine artist who paints life portraits of horses and ponies. At just 28, Madeleine is aspiring to follow in the footsteps of her idol, George Stubbs, aligning with other great equine painters, such as Agasse, Munnings and Herring. Madeleine was born on the island of Mustique in 1995, one of four children; her mother Lotty is a fashion designer and her father Michael, a doctor. She grew up in an an island playground and from an early age sketching and painting was instinctive, and more accessible than riding ponies which she dreamed of. It was when she began her education at boarding school in England that she was able to indulge herself and become a horse-mad teenager taking every opportunity to ride. Her love of horses became the catalyst to her initial plan to become a veterinarian but she had to abort that idea once she failed the required science exams. It was then that she decided on a career in art with the confidence that this was something for which she had a talent. With the guidance of an artistic uncle and aunt, Madeleine spent three years studying traditional portraiture at the Charles Cecil Studios in Florence, Italy. It was to prove the launching pad for her to embark on a career as an equine artist and she was soon making a livelihood painting horse portraits. Madeleine can be found either in her studio in Fosbury, Wiltshire or traveling to horses across the UK and around the world. The year was 1960, and Princess Margaret, along with her new husband Anthony Armstrong-Jones, made a fateful trip ashore to the tiny Caribbean island of Mustique during their six week (checks notes — yes, six week) honeymoon aboard the royal yacht. Margaret's party pal from back in London, Colin Tennant (later, Glenconner), had just purchased the island and he cannily offered the princess a plot of land as a wedding gift. It would be another few years before "Margo" cashed in the I.O.U, but when she did, she also asked for a house — naturally. Thus began Margaret's long love affair with the hedonistic party paradise that Colin developed on Mustique. It's where Margaret escaped the glare of public life in London, enjoyed getaways with her boyfriend, and later suffered a series of serious health episodes. In this final episode Windsors & Losers season one, Eva and Allie mentally head to Mustique to revisit what Margaret and the rest of the 1970s glitterati got up to down there. Hint: it once involved spray-painting palm trees gold, outfitting waiters in just gold coconut shells, and polluting the sand with gold glitter.

Between 1994 and 1997, James Brown's loaded magazine became the must-buy and must-be-in publication of the decade. It won every award going, year after year, and came to define not only its audience but also a generation. Bright, loud, funny, provocative, ambitious and careless, loaded was read from the barracks of Afghanistan to the England dressing room at Euro '96. It captured a hedonistic lifestyle of alcohol, cocaine and more. The last great hurrah before the end of the century. It was the biggest noise in the golden generation of magazine publishing, rocketing from zero to half a million sales in a matter of months. What MTV had been to the 80s, loaded was to the 90s.ANIMAL HOUSE follows James Brown's remarkable career from a high school drop-out fanzine writer with few qualifications to NME features editor aged 22, and loaded founder at 27. In between, his mother died in tragic circumstances and gradually his own drug and alcohol use began to take over. Loaded‘s unexpected success legitimised (and paid for) James's lifestyle, and it wasn't until he crashed and burned at GQ, and went through rehab, that any sense of perspective kicked in.Recuperating on the island of Mustique whilst plotting his return with Oz founder Felix Dennis, James was asked by neighbour Lord Patrick Lichfield: “How on earth did you manage to sell so many magazines whilst taking so many drugs?”This book is his answer.Buy James's book here: https://www.quercusbooks.co.uk/titles/james-brown/animal-house/9781787477902/ Buy tickets for Vittorio's Soho Theatre run: https://sohotheatre.com/shows/vittorio-angelone-translations/Thanks for watching! Sarah McCoy (Mustique Island) is on the Radar! We're immersed in the lush, private Caribbean island of Mustique in the 1970s - a place where royalty and celebrities can cavort … far away from the eyes of the press and the expectations of upper class society. We cover just a handful of the themes in this rich novel, including motherhood, sisterhood, class distinctions, colonialism, and fate versus faith. We talk about our missteps as parents, as well as our unique ability as humans to do better. Is it ever too late to change? We don't think so. Join us for a fascinating discussion with Sarah!

Many people who own three or four houses in fabulous places, often rent their houses off-season. Considering they only use those houses for a few weeks a year, and must be fully staffed and maintained during the rest of the time, renting allows the house to be used and the help to be occupied and busy. Indeed. Diane Von Fürstenberg rents her house in Harbour Island, as does Mica Ertegun in Bodrum, Isabella Rosellini rents her apartment in New York and even the Marlboroughs rent Blenheim palace. Everyone in Mustique, Bermuda, and Layford Key rent their houses when they plan to be off-island. And in the Hamptons, swells rent their houses during the last weeks of August, all for the right price, of course. In the world of high society, you just can't go to any Four Seasons for a holiday, you have to stay in a “society” house. Name dropping is key. As in “We are staying at Veronica's for August, you?” This implies that you know Veronica when in fact you don't know her but are paying through the roof for the luxury of staying in her run-down and shabby chic cottage on the beach. Veronica's worldliness rubs off on you. For those without three houses but plenty of moola, finding the latest place to go is key to the advancement in society. Well, it is really to make the rest of their group jealous of their hipness and cool knowledge factor. Summer plans? “Well, Comporta is the place to be. We have done Ibiza for a few years but now it is full of bad Germans. No, no, no Lamu is only for Christmas; too hot in the summer. I really like Biarritz now, so old world, it's coming back; and well, I have some friends who have recently discovered Albania….” The good thing about a “society” house is that in some places it comes with privileges. Yes, not only the bragging rights, but also visitor passes to clubs, instant acceptance by the neighbors and locals, and then even, maybe a few party invitations. The bad news is that you can't complain if the sheets are a little rough and if the oven only heats to 300 degrees. You know that the owners of the house never cook at home and expect you to boil water using the outside grill. Oh well. I have had some great experiences renting my houses. Most tenants are great, leave the house as they found it, and want to come back the next year. (Love, love repeat customers!) Other tenants are what nightmares are all about. From drilling holes in the walls in order to install outdoor speakers (those were the days of wired ones) to demanding -in the contract- to use my Porthault sheets. I mean really, they could pay me a gabillion but wanted to sleep in my sheets? Hmmm. I also had a tenant once who decided to stalk me on social media…. I guess the intimacy of sleeping in my bed got to him! When a past president and his family went to Provence, they rented a huge manse for their group. At over $100k a week, their stay was planned to the nth degree. Upon arrival, they changed their minds about every event, visit, and excursion that had been previously agreed upon. Panic set in within the staff…. they just didn't know what to do with all the new demands. Well, they were graciously accommodated as much as possible and …. charged double. Yes, one does pay. There are all sorts of levels, right? From sandy cottages on deserted beaches to grand castles that can be rented with no expense spared. And, social people of all sorts rent their houses to lesser mortals who pay for the experience. You too can feel like the lord of the manor for a few weeks or step into the life of an aristocratic wine producer or walk through ancient olive trees and learn the magic of making your own olive oil. It is all about experiencing something fabulous and unique and then…. going home. I am in. It is also an elegant way of keeping up these houses, of maintaining the charm of a life well-lived. It is a way of sharing -yes for profit, but still…- a way to live that is not the norm. After all, being a “host” is the second oldest profession. (I am sure that you can guess which one is the oldest) And having these grand houses lived-in and enjoyed by friends of friends is a way to maintain them. There is a reason why vacation rentals instead of hotels are such a popular way to travel and experience new places in an intimate setting. It is, in essence, the ultimate inside scoop. A well-known society lady who with her husband owns a bunch of houses on a Bahamian Island -and supposedly rents to only family and friends- came to Charleston to talk about architecture and decor. Dana Gillespie (1949-) is one of the few remaining women who was at the centre of the Sixties and Seventies in London and in New York, having been best mates with David Bowie and pretty much anyone who was anyone back then. Eric Clapton was very nearly her guitar teacher, Led Zep's Jimmy Page played on her early folk records and she was in and out of the tabloids with Bob Dylan as a teenage girl. She has recorded with Elton John, had her portrait screen printed by Andy Warhol's Factory, and shared a stage with rock'n'roll greats Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and the Stones. She's lived a life as starry and storied as Marianne Faithfull and Anita Pallenberg – so why hasn't anyone heard of her? In the 1970s, Dana went glam-pop with the track Andy Warhol, which Bowie had written for her, and released the 1974 album Weren't Born A Man, where she appears in a corset and stockings on the cover. But then Bowie's management company went bust and The Thin White Duke stopped returning her calls. Unable to get out of her contract for years, she turned to acting and starred in musicals, though the tabloids were always distracted by her buxom image. In the 1980s, she reinvented herself as a blues singer, founded the Mustique blues festival and has now released upwards of 70 albums, including 13 in Sanskrit. Dana is perhaps just as famous for her long list of lovers, including Keith Moon, Michael Caine and Sean Connery. But Dylan clearly recognised that she is one of a kind and, in the 90s, invited her to open up for him on his UK tour. She has also become a rock star of the spiritual world, having performed in front of a million people at her guru Sai Baba's birthday celebrations. Her style of blues is saucy and knowing, and you can still see her performing every month at a venue called the Temple of Music And Art in south London. Truth be told, Dana has lived such a life that we could have made an entire series about her. If you want more no-holds-barred tell-alls, check out her 2020 memoir, Weren't Born A Man. In this episode, she talks about coming from money, her infamous basement hangout in South Kensington, her love of the blues, how she met Bowie, her freewheeling attitude to sex, love and forgiveness, her spiritual awakening, making music into her 70s and how she hopes she won't be forgotten in the pantheon of great British artists. This episode was produced by Sarah Nichol, presented by Kate Hutchinson and sound designed by Colour It In. Portrait by Laura Kelly. The thrilling new novel from the acclaimed author of Murder on Mustique, based on the childhood described in her international best seller Lady in Waiting. January 1950. Lady Anne Coke, daughter of the fifth Earl of Leicester, is in Scunthorpe on a business trip when she is called home after a sudden death in the family. She returns to Holkham Hall to discover a mystery: her beloved grandfather has been found dead at the bottom of a flight of stairs with a valuable piece of jewellery in his pocket. No one can find a cause of death, and some even suspect foul play from the ghost who supposedly haunts the house. But Anne's suspicions are aroused; she grew close to her grandfather when they lived together during the war and she is determined to discover the truth. During World War II, Holkham Hall was an army base with large sections out of bounds, and 11-year-old Anne was in the care of a new governess, whom she hated and believed to be deceitful. Although she had been told to stay away from certain parts of the house, Anne used the secret passageways and the cellars to move around unnoticed. And something she saw then could unlock the mystery of her grandfather's death now.... Full of rich historical detail, this is a gripping novel of wartime secrets, intrigue and deceit.

She talks about how imposter syndrome crept in and kept her community smaller. However, once the pandemic hit, she was forced to either go online or close, so she got over her fears and is now serving people internationally. Cherelle is a proud Canadian born with deep Trinidadian roots that extend farther than you or I can imagine. Little did she know that important events throughout her upbringing would subconsciously shape her into the professional entertainer and entrepreneur she is today. You could say her journey started at a very young age - playing Mas during Cariwest as a baby and growing up playing the steel drums in her father's band, Trincan Steel Orchestra, for over 10 years. Fast forward to today, now owning her own Caribbean-focused dance and fitness company, SocaFit. Cherelle created SocaFit to allow her to celebrate and share her Trinidadian culture through dance and fitness and to also create programs to enable youth to explore and learn about their own history. What started as her teaching her mother's friends in a small room has grown to an international audience for both adults and children.Find SocaFit classes hereFollow Cherelle on IGFollow Candace on Instagram

Anya started her accessories business as a teenager, inspired by the leather bags she saw on her travels in Italy. Within a few short years, her designs were stocked by some of the most prestigious fashion outlets around the world. She is known for using fashion as a force for good. Back in 2004, her £5 white tote bags, with the slogan “I’m not a plastic bag” written on them, graced the shoulders of A-listers around the world, sparking a global frenzy with queues of over 80,000 people outside Sainsbury’s shops, trying to get their hands on the canvas bags. More recently, during the pandemic, she’s worked with University College London to design a special holster for frontline NHS workers to wear, along with thousands of PPE gowns. Anne Glenconner tillhör de mindre kända, men nog så färgstarka, kretsarna kring det brittiska hovet. Under trettio år var hon hovdam till Prinsessan Margret, en så kallad lady-in-waiting. Förra året publicerade Anne Glenconner en sorts självbiografi med titeln Lady in waiting my extraordinary life in the shadow of the crown.

A storm. A disappearance. A race against time... Mustique is in a state of breathless calm as tropical storm Cristobal edges towards it across the Atlantic. Most villa owners have escaped the island but a few young socialites remain, unwilling to let summer's partying end. American heiress Amanda Fortini is one such thrill-seeker - until she heads out for a morning swim and doesn't return. Detective Sergeant Samuel Wilton is just 28 years old and the island's only fully trained police officer. He quickly realises he needs to contact Lord and Lady Innerleithen, who bought the island decades ago and have invested time, money and love creating a paradise. Jasper is in St Lucia designing a new village of luxury villas but Lady Veronica (Vee to her friends) catches a plane immediately. Her beloved god-daughter, Lily, is on the island and this disappearance has alarming echoes of what happened to Lily's mother many years ago. Lady Vee would never desert a friend in need, and she can keep a cool head in a crisis. When Amanda's body is found, a murder investigation begins. Wilton knows the killer must be an islander because flights and ferry crossings have stopped due to the storm warning, but the local community isn't co-operating. And then the storm hits, and someone else disappears ... Warm, witty, surprising and endlessly entertaining, Murder on Mustique draws on Lady Glenconner's wealth of knowledge about the island and love of storytelling to create a gripping murder mystery. It delivers perfect escapism!

Actor Mia Wasikowska and director and writer Mirrah Foulkes discuss their new film, Judy & Punch, a dark fairy tale that turns the familiar seaside entertainment on its head. French women don’t get fat. They don’t age or struggle to look effortlessly chic either. We all know the cliché of the perfect French woman – but how much of it is true? Former BBC director general Mark Thompson apologised to MPs this week for the failure of the £100m Digital Media Initiative. The project, that was meant to allow BBC staff to create, share and store content in a new digital system, was suspended in 2012. The DMI project is one of a series of controversies at the BBC that has prompted parliamentarians to grill former and current bosses. Steve Hewlett talks to the chair of the Commons Public Accounts Committee Margaret Hodge on why she hopes this is the last saga she'll have to investigate at the BBC.Long lens photographs of the Duchess of Cambridge getting off a plane en route to Mustique with Prince George have appeared on the cover of Hello! magazine. Some say the publication of the photos appears to be at odds with past objections to "private" photographs of members of the royal family taken in public places. So, under what circumstances can pictures of the Royals be published? Steve Hewlett discusses the issue with Max Cisotti, who runs the agency which sold the pictures to Hello!, royal correspondent Robert Jobson, and former palace press secretary Dickie Arbiter.Communications watchdog Ofcom should have the final say on issues of media ownership rather than the culture secretary. The House of Lords Communications Committee says the watchdog should also carry out regular reviews of the media landscape that would "set the context" for any future decisions. Lord Inglewood, the chair of the committee, joins Steve Hewlett to discuss the findings. And as protests in take place in Nairobi in support of detained Al-Jazeera correspondent Peter Greste, we speak to the broadcaster's head of newsgathering about the dangers now facing journalists in Egypt.Producer: Katy Takatsuki.
