Space Power: A National Guardsman's View On Why A Pentagon Plan Is A “Lose-Lose Proposal” Last week Air Force Gen. Steven Nordhaus assumed responsibility as the 30th Chief of the National Guard Bureau, inheriting a politically thorny issue: a piece of legislation that, if passed into law, would transfer Air National Guard space units into the Space Force. This episode is about why some, possibly upwards of 80 percent, of the men and women who make up these units will not join the Space Force, which could leave the branch short of some critical capabilities. Laura Winter speaks with Lt. Col. Andrew Gold, Director of Strategic Plans, Colorado Air National Guard, and a space operator, who recently finished a deployment to Africa commanding the 138th Electromagnetic Warfare Squadron.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee ruled on March 15 that Fulton County district attorney Fani Willis does not need to step down from prosecuting the high-profile case against former President Donald Trump and 14 others if special counsel Nathan Wade is taken off the case. President Trump's attorney Steve Sadow said the defense team respects Judge McAfee's decision, but believes the judge did not fully take into account all the details in the case. During their annual retreat, House Republicans have condemned comments made by Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). Mr. Schumer said during a March 14 speech that Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu had “lost his way” and was one of several “major obstacles” to peace in the region. House speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) called the demand that Mr. Netanyahu step down “highly inappropriate.” A large number of drone incursions are occurring at the U.S.–Mexico border, a U.S. Department of Defense official said on March 14. Air Force Gen. On the version of Hot off the Wire posted Oct. 5 at 5:35 a.m. CT: OSLO, Norway (AP) — Imprisoned activist Narges Mohammadi has won the Nobel Peace Prize. She has campaigned for women's rights, democracy and against the death penalty in Iran for years. The 51-year-old has done her work despite facing numerous arrests and spending years behind bars for her activism. The chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced the prize Friday in Oslo. She said it was a recognition of the work of a whole movement in Iran. Authorities arrested Mohammadi after she attended a memorial for a victim of violent 2019 protests. She is the 19th woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize and the second Iranian woman. WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President Donald Trump is officially backing Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, the pugnacious House Judiciary Committee chairman and longtime Trump defender, to succeed Kevin McCarthy as House speaker. “Congressman Jim Jordan has been a STAR long before making his very successful journey to Washington, D.C., representing Ohio's 4th Congressional District,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social site shortly after midnight Friday. “He will be a GREAT Speaker of the House, & has my Complete & Total Endorsement!” The announcement came hours after Texas Rep. Troy Nehls said Thursday night that Trump had decided to endorse Jordan for the role. WASHINGTON (AP) — Lawyers for Donald Trump have asked a judge to dismiss the Washington federal election subversion case against him. The lawyers argued Thursday the Republican is immune from prosecution for actions they say were taken in his official role as president. The motion amounts to the most pointed attack on the federal case charging Trump with plotting to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election he lost to Democrat Joe Biden. The Trump lawyers' motion says prosecutors can't argue that "Trump's efforts to ensure election integrity, and to advocate for the same, were outside the scope of his duties.” Prosecutors are expected to contest the motion. MEXICO CITY (AP) — The Biden administration is going to resume deporting migrants to Venezuela. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, speaking in Mexico City Thursday, cited the new measure as one of the “strict consequences” the Biden administration is pairing with the expansion of legal pathways for asylum seekers. The process is expected to begin shortly, two U.S. officials tell The Associated Press, though they did not provide specific details on when the flights would begin taking off. The resumption of deportation comes not long after the administration increased protected status for Venezuelans who arrive to the U.S., so if someone arrived to the U.S. before July 31 of this year, but not after, they'd be eligible for protections. NEW YORK (AP) — The father of a toddler who authorities say died of fentanyl poisoning at a New York City day care center said he had hoped to have a photo of his son's kindergarten graduation in four years. Otoniel Feliz cried as he held up a photo of his son Nicholas Dominici, who died after he and three other young children were sickened at their Bronx day care center. District Attorney Darcel Clark says Grei Mendez, Felix Herrera Garcia and Carlisto Brito were arraigned on charges including murder on Thursday. An attorney for Mendez says she is not guilty. Messages seeking comment were left with attorneys for the other two defendants. GRANADA, Spain (AP) — European Union leaders have pledged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy their unwavering support. On Friday, they will face one of their worst political headaches on a key commitment — how and when to welcome debt-laden and war-battered Ukraine into the bloc. The 27-nation EU has said since the start of Russia's invasion in February 2022 that at the end of the war it will work steadfastly on “lasting unity” that will eventually translate into Ukraine's membership in the wealthy bloc. For a nation fighting for its very survival, that moment cannot come quickly enough. For the bloc itself, that remains to be seen. BEIJING (AP) — A typhoon is heading toward southern China and Hong Kong after bringing record-breaking winds and leaving one dead in Taiwan. Typhoon Koinu is weakening Friday as it heads west across the South China Sea toward China's Guangdong province. The China Meteorological Administration forecasts it will turn to the southwest in waters off the coast by Sunday. Ferry service was suspended in parts of Guangdong province, and the city of Guangzhou canceled some flights and trains. One person was killed by flying glass Thursday in the Taiwanese city of Taichung, and more than 300 others were injured around the island. PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A first-of-its-kind assessment says whales, dolphins and seals living in U.S. waters face major threats from the warming ocean temperatures, rising sea levels and decreasing sea ice associated with climate change. Researchers with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration examined more than 100 stocks of American whale and dolphin species and found more than 70% are vulnerable to threats such as loss of habitat and food due to impacts of warming waters. The impacts also include loss of dissolved oxygen and changes to ocean chemistry. Advocates for marine mammals say the study is evidence that management of the animals must adapt to save them. On the version of Hot off the Wire posted Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. CT: NEW YORK (AP) — A man who wounded 10 people in a rush-hour subway shooting in New York City last year has been sentenced to life in prison. Frank James was sentenced on Thursday. He pleaded guilty to terrorism charges earlier this year for the April 2022 mass shooting. His attorneys requested a reduced sentence of 18 years, pointing to the lack of fatalities as evidence James didn't intend to kill anyone. Federal prosecutors say James spent years carefully planning the subway shooting in order to “inflict maximum damage at the height of rush hour.” They said the fact that no one was killed was “miraculous.” Before the shooting, James posted dozens of videos online under the moniker “Prophet of Doom.” BEIRUT (AP) — Syria's health minister says a drone attack that hit a packed military graduation ceremony in the central city of Homs has killed 80 and wounded 240. Health Minister Hassan al-Ghabash says civilians, including children, and military personnel are among those killed Thursday. He says there are concerns the death toll could rise further as many of the wounded were in serious condition. In an earlier statement, Syria's military said drones laden with explosives targeted the ceremony crowded with young officers and their families as it came to an end. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. The war-torn country' is now in its 13th year of conflict. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon says the U.S. military shot down an armed Turkish drone that came within 500 meters of American troops in northeastern Syria. It was a rare use of force by one NATO member against another. Air Force Gen. Patrick Ryder, the Pentagon press secretary, called it a “regrettable incident” and said U.S. troops were forced to go to bunkers for safety as Turkey bombed targets nearby. He says U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin spoke with his Turkish counterpart about the incident Thursday and underscored the importance of close coordination between their two countries to prevent risks to U.S. forces or to the mission to defeat Islamic State militants in the region. LOS ANGELES (AP) — The former University of Southern California gynecologist charged with sexually assaulting numerous students has died. Attorney Leonard Levine said Thursday that George Tyndall was found dead in his home Wednesday. Tyndall was in his mid-70s and was awaiting trial on 35 criminal counts of sexual misconduct between 2009 and 2016 at the university's student health center. He had pleaded not guilty and was free on bond. While the coroner's office will do an autopsy, Levine said there is “no evidence of foul play or suicide.” The university agreed in 2021 to an $852 million settlement with more than 700 women who made accusations against Tyndall. WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President Donald Trump is in talks to make a trip to Capitol Hill next week. A potential visit would come as Republicans work to decide who should be the next speaker of the House following Kevin McCarthy's ouster. Three people familiar with the talks disclosed them to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity Thursday ahead of a formal announcement. Some on the far right have floated the idea of Trump as a speaker candidate, perhaps on an interim basis. Trump has said he is focused “totally” on his campaign to return to the White House, but says, “If I can help them during the process, I would do it." STOCKHOLM (AP) — The Nobel Prize in literature has been awarded to Norwegian author Jon Fosse. The permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy announced the prize Thursday in Stockholm. The academy says the prize is for Fosse's “innovative plays and prose, which give voice to the unsayable.” Fosse is a master of spare Nordic writing in a sprawling body of work ranging from plays to novels and children's books. One of his country's most-performed dramatists, Fosse said he had “cautiously prepared” himself for a decade to receive the call. He is the author of 40 plays as well as novels, short stories, children's books, poetry and essays. BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Police say a man has been accused of stalking a woman in New York via his small airplane, flying out of an airport in nearby Vermont. Sixty-five-year-old Michael Arnold appeared in court Wednesday in Bennington, Vermont. He was arrested Tuesday as he was driving into the William H. Morse State Airport in town. Police say his single-engine Cessna 180 was at the airport and he had been flying from there. Arnold, of Manchester, New Hampshire, had been served with a temporary order of protection from a court in Saratoga, New York, in May. It said he had to “cease and desist from flying any and all aircraft." WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President Donald Trump's lawyers have asked a judge to postpone his Florida classified documents trial until after next year's presidential election. The lawyers say they haven't received all the records they need to prepare Trump's defense. The trial on charges of illegally hoarding classified documents at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort is among four criminal cases the Republican ex-president faces. The trial is scheduled for May 20, 2024. The defense lawyers argued in a motion late Wednesday a postponement is necessary because of scheduling conflicts and because of what they say are delays in obtaining and reviewing the classified records cited in the indictment. Prosecutors deny delaying the production of evidence in the case. WASHINGTON (AP) — AT&T and Gallaudet University have developed a football helmet for quarterbacks who are deaf or hard of hearing. The innovation allows a coach to call a play on a tablet from the sideline that then shows up visually on a small display screen inside the quarterback's helmet. Gallaudet, which competes in Division III, was cleared by the NCAA to use the helmet in its game on Saturday at home against Hilbert. CHICAGO (AP) — Former Northwestern University football coach Pat Fitzgerald is suing the school for $130 million, saying his alma mater wrongfully fired him in the wake of a hazing and abuse scandal that has engulfed the athletic department. The announcement by Chicago-based attorneys Dan K. Webb and Matthew R. Carter on Thursday comes nearly three months after Fitzgerald was suspended and then fired after 17 years. Webb said that Fitzgerald would also be seeking additional money for “infliction of emotional distress,” future lost income and punitive damages. He said the suit in Cook County Circuit Court is against the university and its President Michael Schill. LOS ANGELES (AP) — On Sunday, Habitat for Humanity's 2023 annual Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Week Project kicked off on the President's 99th birthday. Country legends Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood hosted. They tell the Associated Press they've built alongside the Carters at many recent work projects with the exception of this one. Jimmy Carter has been in hospice care since February 2023. They say they're keeping one of the former president's traditions going — giving jobs quickly to anyone who looks like they're standing idle. Brooks adds that the construction site offers unexpected musical inspiration. He jokes that one can "pick up some good old hammer tracks here.” —The Associated Press About this program Host Terry Lipshetz is a senior producer for Lee Enterprises. Both countries have declared a state of emergency as rescue efforts move to find survivors trapped under rubble, reports the Times of Israel. A second 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck a few minutes later at 4:24 am approximately 60 miles north of the first quake's epicenter, which was centered in the southeastern province of Gaziantep, Turkey, according to the Daily Mail. The first quake's depth was up to 10 miles according to the US Geological Survey and had aftershocks reaching 6.7 on the Richter Scale. Tremors reverberated as far away as Israel and Cairo in Egypt. CBS reports that UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said "We stand ready to provide further support as needed." A total of 76 search and rescue specialists have been dispatched from the UK to help with the efforts. Almost immediately after the quake hit, Turkey asked the European Civil Project and Humanitarian Aid Operations for assistance and aid. The Turkish Interior Minister said, "The main impact of the earthquake fell on Kahramanmaras. After that, there were at least 22 aftershocks, 6 of magnitude over 6. The earthquake was felt in 10 provinces "Two hours after the earthquake, several dozen dead are known. In many cities, multi-storey buildings have been destroyed; it is not yet possible to start clearing the rubble." https://www.theblaze.com/news/prostitutes-sex-workers-catholic-school-oakland Prostitutes solicit sex right outside Catholic elementary school, police handcuffed after California Democrats passed law to protect transgender sex workers Parents of children are up in arms that prostitutes are soliciting sex work right outside a California elementary school. Some are saying that a law passed by California Democrats has handcuffed law enforcement in cracking down on sex workers selling their bodies in broad daylight. KGO-TV conducted an investigation about prostitutes working outside St. Anthony's elementary school in East Oakland. The San Francisco-based news station captured video of sex workers dressed in minimal clothes and stiletto heels walking the streets near the Catholic school to sell their bodies in the middle of the day with students nearby. KGO-TV reported, "The I-Team captured videos along E. 15th Street outside the school gate on four different dates over the past couple weeks showing young women wearing barely any clothing walking along the school sidewalk, the street corners, or directly across from the school. All of the videos were captured as children were being dropped off or walked into school." Concerned parent Rosa Vargas told KGO-TV said she sees prostitutes near the Catholic school "every day, during all periods of the day." Vargas said the sex workers solicit sex so close to the elementary school that they recently "were blocking the entrance of the parking structure" of the school. Oakland City Councilman Noel Gallo noted that he is receiving complaints about prostitutes every week. Gallo stated, "I get the call saying, 'Mr. Gallo I can't get into my home because the pimp is blocking my driveway.' It's constant." Gallo said he has seen up to 20 scantily-clad women walking up and down the street, appearing to engage in prostitution. He revealed that some of the girls are as young as 15 years old. City officials believe some of the women are victims of human trafficking. Some believe that recent construction along a busy highway caused the sex workers to migrate to residential neighborhoods. Rodney Pierre-Antoine – who oversees seven Catholic elementary schools, including St. Anthony's – said the hands of the police "are somewhat handcuffed." Pierre-Antoine is referencing Senate Bill 357, known as the Safer Streets for All Act. SB 357 states: Existing law prohibits soliciting or engaging in an act of prostitution, as specified. Existing law also prohibits loitering in a public place with the intent to commit prostitution, as defined, or directing, supervising, recruiting, or aiding a person who is loitering with the intent to commit prostitution, or collecting or receiving all or part of the proceeds of an act of prostitution. Under existing law, a violation of any of these provisions is a misdemeanor. This bill would repeal those provisions related to loitering with the intent to commit prostitution and would make other conforming changes. California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed SB 357 into law in July, and it went into effect on Jan. 1. Police officers told KGO-TV that the new law is prohibiting them from rescuing women who they believe are victims of human trafficking. https://www.foxbusiness.com/economy/democrat-led-state-killing-businesses-shrink-secede-several-counties Democrat-led state that’s ‘killing businesses’ could shrink amid push to secede in several counties After 11 Oregon counties approved a preliminary vote to secede from the Democrat-led state, local leaders around the movement are explaining how the urban-rural divide has left them with no other choice. "People in eastern Oregon have felt like their state-level governance has not heard them, has not paid attention to our concerns, and has not been working for eastern Oregon," Greater Idaho Movement spokesperson Matt McCaw said on "Fox & Friends First" Monday. McCaw, along with Oregon business owner Sandie Gilson, supports the idea of having select counties elect to move their state borderlines so state-level governance would come from Idaho. Over the last two years, the Greater Idaho Movement has worked to gather constituent sentiment around the proposal. Business owners like Gilson sounded off on Oregon’s tax policy, detailing the burden taken on by a corporate activity tax. The decision to secede from the state, McCaw argued, would be a "win-win" for all involved parties. The formal state bill, called the Greater Idaho Bill, was introduced to the Oregon legislature on Jan. 10. Idaho state leaders reportedly motioned for formal discussions about the proposal last week, noting the purpose is to "begin official discussions on whether it is feasible to move the Idaho border into eastern Oregon." However, if Idaho and Oregon were to negotiate a border adjustment, U.S. Congress would have to sign off on it, in addition to both Oregon and Idaho legislatures. The plan would create what would become the nation’s third-largest state geographically. https://newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/alex-christy/2023/02/06/study-five-months-late-night-93-liberal-guests-1-conservative Five Months Of Late Night: 93 Liberal Guests, 1 Conservative The late-night comedy shows ended 2022 with a unanimously liberal guest count and that trend continued until the very last day of January, a NewsBusters study has revealed. MRC analysts found that from Labor Day through January 31, liberal guests outnumbered conservative guests 93 to 1. It was 99 percent liberal and/or Democrat. The one exception was My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell who Jimmy Kimmel put on to mock. This is follow up to MRC’s late night guest election campaign study. Fox's Gutfeld! was not included. MRC analysts divided guests into two categories: partisan officials and then journalists and celebrities. When it came to the count of politicians, the count was 27 Democrats to 0 Republicans. Stephen Colbert led with ten, Noah was second with seven, Meyers was third at four, Fallon came in fourth with three, Kimmel placed fifth at two, and Corden was sixth and last with one. All of the videos were captured as children were being dropped off or walked into school." Link: https://discord.gg/ZzJSrGP Barack Obama knows the truth about space aliens, government UFO files Link: https://nypost.com/2020/12/01/obama-knows-truth-about-space-aliens-government-ufo-files/ The truth is out there — but former President Barack Obama's lips are sealed. The 44th commander-in-chief confirmed during a Monday interview with “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert that he sought classified information on extraterrestrials during his time in the Oval Office, but refused to divulge what he learned. “Certainly asked about it,” said Obama when Colbert brought up UFOs during a wide-ranging interview to promote “A Promised Land,” Obama's new memoir. “And?” pressed the late-night CBS funnyman. “Can't tell you,” replied Obama, with an impish grin. “Sorry.” Colbert took that non-answer as all the confirmation he needed that we are not alone. “All right, I'll take that as a ‘yes,'” he cracked. “Because if there were none, you'd say there was none. You just played your hand. I thought you were a poker player. You just 100 percent showed your river card.” Obama, playing into the non-answer answer, did nothing to discourage Colbert's conclusion. “Feel free to think that,” the former president said. Replied Colbert, “Oh, I do.” In between chuckles, both men reflected on the idea that an alleged government cover-up of alien life was once regarded as the biggest conspiracy theory going. “It used to be that UFOs and Roswell was the biggest conspiracy. And now that seems so tame, the idea that the government might have an alien spaceship,” opined Obama. Zinged Colbert, “Now the biggest conspiracy is [that] people in Michigan vote.” Leaked reports from Pentagon UFO task force discuss 'non-human technology,' mysterious objects Link: https://www.foxnews.com/science/leaked-pentagon-ufo-task-force-reports-non-human-technology-silver-cube The reports include an Oct. 16, 2019, email exchange between high-ranking military officials Two classified reports from the Pentagon's task force used to "detect, analyze and catalog" UFOs have been leaked, both of which include photos of unidentified objects. Defense news website TheDebrief.org has published the reports, including an Oct. 16, 2019, email exchange between former Vice Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Robert Burke and current Vice Chief of Staff for the Air Force Gen. Stephen Wilson. This exchange was obtained by a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request from The Debrief. “Recommend you take the brief I just received from our Director of Naval Intelligence VADM Matt Kohler, on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP),” Burke told Wilson in the email. Burke added that "SECNAV will get the same brief tomorrow at 1000," likely referring to then-Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer. The leaked photo, taken off the East Coast of the U.S. by a "pilot's personal cell phone," was a part of the 2018 position report, one source told the news outlet. This report discussed what the unidentified silver “cube-shaped” object could be, with a list of possible explanations discussed, including the fact it could be “alien” or “non-human” technology. FAST MOVERS' AND TRANSMEDIUM VEHICLES – THE PENTAGON'S UNIDENTIFIED AERIAL PHENOMENA TASK FORCE Link: https://thedebrief.org/fast-movers-and-transmedium-vehicles-the-pentagons-uap-task-force/ UAP INTELLIGENCE POSITION REPORTS Multiple sources confirmed for The Debrief that the UAPTF had issued two classified intelligence position reports, which one individual described as “shocking.” Details provided on these reports suggest both a greater degree of Pentagon involvement, and that the UAPTF's hunt for unidentified objects isn't confined only to aerial phenomena. Two officials with the DoD and one from the U.S. Intelligence community were willing to provide details on the contents of the classified report. An additional three other U.S. Intelligence Officials and a federal law enforcement officer confirmed the report's existence but were only willing to provide comments on their distribution. According to those willing to discuss the document, the report's most disconcerting aspect was one of the potential explanations for what UAP could represent. Sources say a “list” of possible prosaic explanations for these mysterious airborne encounters was provided. However, the report expressly stated that the potential for UAP to be “alien” or “non-human” technology was of legitimate consideration. Regarding the overall theme of the recent report, officials who read it say the report primarily focused on “Unidentified Submersible Phenomena,” or unidentified “transmedium” vehicles capable of operating both under water and in the air. The three officials we spoke with said the report suggested the UAP Task Force appears to be concerned that the objects being termed as UAP may be originating from within the world's oceans. Strange as this may sound, the idea of “USOs” or “unidentified submersible objects” is not something exclusive to the current UAPTF. Former Head of Israel's Space Program: The Aliens Asked Not To Be Revealed, Humanity Not Yet Ready Link: https://www.jewishpress.com/news/media/former-head-of-israels-space-program-the-aliens-asked-not-to-be-revealed-humanity-not-yet-ready/2020/12/05/ Prof. Haim Eshed served from 1981 to 2010 as the head of Israel's security space program and over the years received the Israel Security Award three times, twice for confidential technological inventions. So if he went nuts, and this possibility is always open, it had to have happened over the past decade. And the reason we think the good professor may have lost his marbles has to do with an interview he gave 7 Days, the Shabbat edition of Yedioth Aharonoth, Israel's largest circulation for-pay newspaper, in which he says, “The aliens have asked not to announce that they are here, humanity is not ready yet.” The UFOs have asked not to publish that they are here, humanity is not ready yet. Trump was on the verge of revealing, but the aliens in the Galactic Federation are saying: Wait, let people calm down first. They don't want to start mass hysteria. They want to first make us sane and understanding. They have been waiting for humanity to evolve and reach a stage where we will generally understand what space and spaceships are. There's an agreement between the US government and the aliens. They signed a contract with us to do experiments here. They, too, are researching and trying to understand the whole fabric of the universe, and they want us as helpers. There's an underground base in the depths of Mars, where their representatives are, and also our American astronauts. If I had come up with what I'm saying today five years ago, I would have been hospitalized. Wherever I've gone with this in academia, they've said: the man has lost his mind. Georges St-Pierre is the greatest martial artist in the world. He's also the craziest martial artist too. That's right from the mouth of GSP's head coach, Firas Zahabi, who continues to talk up his star pupil like maybe that retirement isn't the most permanent thing in the whole world. He had this eyebrow raising exchange with UFC commentator and podcaster extraordinaire Joe Rogan recently. Well, I dunno, I don't want to speak for Georges. But man, he can kill anybody, this man. He's the world's greatest martial artist. I think so. I'm telling you, he's a monster. He's an animal. He loves to train. Like Saturday, he trained, he did all his rounds, then he was coaching some blue belts and purple belts and just kinda hanging out with them talking technique. He loves this stuff, man.” ”He's such a nutcase, Georges. He's crazy,” Zahabi continued. “He always tells me ‘So many crazy characters in MMA.' You're the craziest one of all! ‘Oh, no!'” ”He thinks aliens are stealing his time,” Rogan interjected. ”I share a hotel room with him many times,” Zahabi said. “He puts a foam roller up against the door like this. I move it, I put it away - ‘No, bro, leave it there!' For what? ‘In case the aliens get us.' He'll know the next day because the foam roller was moved.” ”Jesus Christ, doesn't he think the aliens can come through the walls?” Rogan asked. “How are they taking him out? Taking him through the hallway holding his hand?” ”Because they wipe his memory after,” Zahabi said. “But he'll know because they don't know he put the foam roller there. So when they move it, it's a cue for him to remember.” Reports of strange lights in the sky in northern Montana Link: GREAT FALLS — We have received reports and several photos from people in northern Montana of strange lights in the sky. People in and around Browning, Rocky Boy, and Lodgepole shared photos with MTN News on Wednesday evening that show a row of bright lights in the sky, and people in other areas of Montana reported seeing them, too. Meteorologist John Belski of TV station WLKY reported on Monday that SpaceX launched two sets of satellites this year called Starlink. Each launch had 60 small satellites that eventually will orbit the earth at an altitude of more than 300 miles. And on Sunday, meteorologist Will Haenni of station WWMT posted : "The bright dots in the sky are satellites, approximately 175 miles above the surface of the Earth. They appear bright due to their solar array reflecting sunlight back to the dark side of the globe." SpaceX launched 60 Starlink satellites from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida. The SpaceX website explains: "SpaceX is developing a low latency, broadband internet system to meet the needs of consumers across the globe. Enabled by a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites, Starlink will provide fast, reliable internet to populations with little or no connectivity, including those in rural communities and places where existing services are too expensive or unreliable." If you saw a row of UFO like lights in the sky in IL, IA, MI (like this but spaced out), that was SpaceX Starlink Satellites! You'll be able to see them in the next few days, too! US Space Command will launch this month, ahead of Trump's Space Force Link: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2019/08/20/space-force-launch-aug-29-vice-president-mike-pence-says/2061062001/ Speaking at Tuesday's meeting of the National Space Council, Vice President Mike Pence and Pentagon officials announced that a key step in creating the newest branch of the military would happen next week. The U.S. Space Command officially starts Aug. 29, serving as the launching pad for the Space Force, they said. Air Force Gen. John Raymond has been tapped and confirmed by the Senate as its first leader. "The United States Space Force will ensure that our nation is prepared to defend our people, defend our interests, and to defend our values in the vast expanse of space and here on Earth with the technologies that will support our common defense for the vast reaches of outer space," Pence said. The Trump administration has cited potential threats from China and Russia as part of the reasoning behind creating a space force. Last month, France announced the creation of its own space force. "I was put here for security, whether it's Space Force, which I'm doing today, or whether it's borders," the president said. Eventually, an undersecretary of defense for space will be named, and the program – which would start as a division of the U.S. Air Force – would become the sixth armed service, joining the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Coast Guard. Sexual Assault in the Military: Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand's Proposals for Change

The Takeaway: Story of the Day

A recent Pentagon report demonstrates the severity of the problem: based on anonymous surveys, the Defense Department estimates that 26,000 members of the military were sexually assaulted in fiscal year 2012, up from 19,000 the year before. Of these 26,000 victims, only a small fraction, 3,374 in 2012, reported the crime. These grim statistics combined with recent sexual battery charges against the Air Force's sexual assault prevention chief and similar accusations against an Army coordinator at Fort Hood have Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) pushing for changes in the military's handling of sexual assault cases.  In the current system, these cases are reported and adjudicated within a victim's chain of command. Victims report to their commanding officer and, Senator Gillibrand says, "There is a fear that the commanding officer will not take them seriously, or punish them for reporting."  Gillibrand's proposed legislation would allow victims to "report these cases to the JAG attorneys, the prosecutors who will prosecute the case," removing the case from the chain of command so that commanding officers with potential conflicts of interest would no longer be in charge of deciding whether a case should go to trial.  While she commends JAG attorneys for their work, because of the charges against sexual assault prevention specialists and the growing number of victims, Gillibrand believes that the overall adjudication of these crimes and the dynamics within the military need to change.  "For one of the Air Force Chiefs of Staff to have testified...that part of the incident rate is because of the hook-up culture that's being held over from high school demonstrates how there is so little understanding," she says, referring to recent comments by Air Force Gen. Mark Welsh to the Senate Armed Services Committee.  "Sexual assault and rape is a crime of violence, it's a crime of aggression, it's a crime of dominance; it may not even be related to sex in any way. These are violent crimes that are often committed by recidivists, people who have done it over and over again, where they target their victim and are really predators."
