The sweet warm embrace of a Liga MX side's last minute goal to devastate an MLS opponent. Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. Good preseason win for Atlanta United on Saturday afternoon in Bradenton against New England. Miguel Almirón started and played into the second half for the Five Stripes. Ronny Deila spoke afterwards about Almirón's positioning and wants him to have the freedom on the offensive side but discipline defensively. I think we saw that, overall the defensive side of the team looked good in the win and the offensive chemistry will come with time. Latte Lath could join training this week, Brooks Lennon is back in training already and might ahead of schedule, and Stian Gregersen should be available to play in Wednesday's Bradenton finale against Cincinnati. Cupsets in Britain as Liverpool's race to the quadruple was dashed by Plymouth Argyle, who are on the bottom of the Championship. Their manager went home to celebrate with nachos and Fanta... yes that's what he said. Queen's Park in Scotland went one better, upsetting Rangers after saving a 95th minute penalty and earning a win over the Scottish giant for the first time since 1882. Atleti were given a dubious penalty in their 1-1 draw with Real Madrid on Saturday. While you might be able to justify the call, it's the kind of call that we shouldn't want to see in games. Barcelona won on the weekend, so La Liga has 3 teams separated by 2 points at the top. Christian Pulisic is tied for the Serie A lead in assists after 2 in Milan's 2-0 win over Empoli. River Plate ended Independiente's unbeaten start to the season in Argentina, while the Uruguayan Clásico finished 1-1 between Peñarol and Nacional. Clubs are still adding players in MLS with the window open into April. On the silly season front, it looks like Eduard Atuesta's move to Orlando is back on. Benjamin Rollheiser is reportedly headed to Botafogo in Brazil as opposed to MLS, but a Botafogo striker could be headed to the LA Galaxy on loan. More Espresso on Monday on the SDH Network, presented by Oglethorpe University.

But does their association with a government entity make it less of a fairytale triumph for the fast-rising second-tier Georgians? The focus then turns to other lower-league cup triumphs in 2024, including Senegal, where the final set an almost unbelievable all-time record. The segment concludes with our stand-out cupsets of the season in Spain, Austria, Norway and Denmark, where two top-flight teams have been hit with an expensive fine for a snowball fight. Up next in Part 2 is a whistlestop tour of the globe, with five stories from five continents. In Europe, Serie D outfit Piacenza race through three coaches in one day, while a passionate fan tries to smuggle his grandfather's skull into a continental final in South America. The FA Cup Second Round is here. A round of magic for all involved. A chance to shine, create memories and history but also in much part because of the carrot of the big boys if the Third Round can be reached. 9 non league sides in action this weekend and all miss each other so 9 chances for Cupsets, or maybe 9 chances for non league heartbreak. We talk with Phil Annets in @facupfactfile mode to tap into his knowledge and insight into the greatest cup competition in the world. With a bucket full of FA cup memories already, Wealdstone assistant boss Paul Hughes is hoping his sides Saturday morning kick off will be another one to add. A local derby for the National Leaguers against Top of Division One Wycombe Wanderers. He admits it wont be easy but having trained with and under some of the best, made his own magical memories and seen his side hit form inspired by the community around it, maybe this is another one for the pot. Matt Badcock returns to head up out Non League paper round-up. Of course there is FA Cup focus but there's weather talk, teams on the up and of course that managerial merry-go-round.

There's been soaring highs and crushing lows in the past week of Australian football, and who better to break it down than Joey Lynch, Josh Parish, Taryn Heddo, and Nick D'Urbano? Nobody, that's who. It was another day, another defeat for the Matildas against Canada on Tuesday evening and the vibes were definitely not good. What went wrong? How does it get fixed? Can it be fixed? Should Tony Gustavsson stay? Would Football Australia even be able to move him on? The TNC crew looks at it from all angles as they break it down. Then there's the A-Leagues new broadcast deal. There are two A-League Men games on free-to-air now. That's good. But there's no A-League Women on free-to-air. That's bad. But all A-League Women games are out from behind the paywall. That's good! But it's tucked away from channel surfers. That's bad. Multiple things can be true at once. But then there's the good stuff. Sydney United is the first ever side from outside the A-Leagues into the final of the Australia Cup. Magic. What does this mean for Australian football? And can the Oakleigh Cannons join them in the final? And what does this mean for the future of a National Second Division? Is it time? And as ever, there's the most comprehensive wrap of the National Premier Leagues of any poddy going around. We think. We haven't checked. After a quick chat about last week’s FA Cup 1st Round games and via Robin’s little daughter making a spontaneous debut on the show, we switched our attention to the big debate, the most important of our time.....who are the absolute biggest sh*thouse players of all time?! The pantomime villains we all love to hate. The wind-up merchants, the cheats and agent provocateur characters of our beautiful (but also underhanded, snidey and outrageous) game! ***THIS EPISODE, RATHER UNSURPRISINGLY IMHO, CONTAINS SOME SWEARING. I mean we are talking about the devil that owns Bury FC and about South American footballers’ shenanigans after all!*** @brightonrockpod brightonrockpodcast@gmail.com Sponsored by SoL: www.seagullsoverlondon.com Stand or fall! Sky Sports Andy Hinchciffe, EFL on Quest's Michael Brown and Leyton Orient captain Jobi McAnuff join Ben Turner to preview selected games in the EFL this weekend. The trio also reflect on Carabao Cup Round Three, with young Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea stars getting their chance, Cupsets with Colchester United beating Tottenham Hotspur and Oxford United thrashing West Ham United, and some tasty ties in Round Four. The featured games that are being previewed this week are: Stoke City v Nottingham Forest: Is this the last chance for Nathan Jones to turn the corner? How has Sabri Lamouchi made Nottingham Forest in to a force to be reckoned with? QPR v West Brom: Is this QPR's biggest test? Barnsley v Brentford: The two lowest scoring sides in the Championship this season, let's hope that stat changes this weekend. Coventry City v Doncaster Rovers: Only one win in their last 12 away games for Doncaster – Is it too tough an ask for them? Cheltenham Town v Crewe Alexandra: Eight out of Crewe's 11 last week were academy graduates, how incredible is that?
Welcome back, soccer fans, to your source for all things American soccer. In this episode our hosts break down the Gold Cup group stages and what to expect from the knockout rounds. Mike is still confident in his pick of Mexico over the United States in the final, while Nick believes this is Costa Rica's year. With Haiti upsetting Costa Rica, Canada could be the dark horse team to make the finals. The USMNT will still need to get past Canada and Jamaica, but their path looks promising after convincing wins over Guyana and Trinidad & tobago. Meanwhile, the USWNT defeated Spain in less than convincing fashion. But for two Megan Rapinoe penalty kicks, the #1 ranked team and tournament favorites nearly missed their worst ever finish in the Women's World Cup. Mike believes this will act as motivation for the team to roll to victories in their upcoming matches. Still the favorite, the US will face tough tests in France, Norway, Germany, or whichever team they may meet in the final. Back on US soil, the US Open Cup delivered additional Cupsets! with New Mexico defeating Colorado and Saint Louis defeating FC Cincinnati. LAFC, Portland, and Atlanta are still the favorites, but Mike believes NYCFC will surprise everyone and take the trophy. Meanwhile in MLS action, the Chicago Fire once again underwhelm in a 1-1 draw to Real Salt Lake, the Galaxy beat up on a floundering FCC, and Sporting KC somehow come out on top in the Battle of the Bad against Columbus. Someone has to win, right? Enjoy all the soccer action, and be sure to follow us on twitter @SOPSoccer and leave your thoughts in the comments below.
Who is Tyler Boyd? Andrew Wiebe, David Gass, and Calen Carr are joined by the USMNT's newest breakout star. Boyd tells the guys about playing everywhere from New Zealand to Turkey, and why he choose to play for the United States after appearing in friendlies for New Zealand. TSN analyst Terry Dunfield calls in to explain why Canada's goal should be to WIN the Gold Cup. Plus, US Open Cup upsets and Landon Donovan the USL Championship general manager. Time Segment 3:14 Canada lose to Mexico, but still dream of titles 9:18 INTERVIEW: TSN's Terry Dunfield breaks down Canucks 16:50 The Winger Game: USMNT take down Guyana 24:46 INTERVIEW: Tyler Boyd on his life, career and decision to play for US 40:08 Should the Trinidad & Tobago revenge match matter? 52:08 Cupsets in the US Open Cup! Ideal final? 1:02:36 Landon Donovan got his team in San Diego ... Now what?
There's soccer around the world, and we've got your American perspective. The Women's World Cup is taking place in France, and favorite United States continues to dominate. After a convincing 3-0 victory over Chile, the USWNT have locked up a spot in the knock-out round. They'll have their work cut out for them with possible opponents of Spain, France, Norway, and Australia ... and that's even before the finals! Still the favorite, this is the US Women's tournament to lose. Also, Marta (Brazil) sets the all-time World Cup goal-scoring record, with her 17th career WC goal. Meanwhile in the US Open Cup ... CUPSETS! Mike's new favorite word (though annoying when overused, and the MLS is sure trying to overuse it) is appropriate to describe the victories of New Mexico United over Colorado Rapids and Saint Louis FC over Chicago Fire. And the Cupsets could continue with Saint Louis facing FC Cincinnati. Nick and Mike still think this is LAFC's tournament to lose, but they'll have to get through Portland and the Galaxy to do it. Meanwhile, Atlanta has found their rhythm, despite going down early to Chattanooga, and the Five Stripes are the favorite on the other side of the bracket. Finally, Gold Cup 2019 is underway. Favorites Mexico and Costa Rica started with convincing wins vs. Cuba and Nicaragua, and Canada impressed vs. Martinique. Panama topped Trinidad and Tobago, and the USMNT defeated debutante Guyana. Mike is picking Mexico over the USA in the final, while Nick thinks that Costa Rica is destined to win. Following a wild fourth round of the FA Cup, Ryan Walters, Scott Whitelock, and Michael Redmond break down the numerous Cupsets and answer your questions to determine what went wrong for the first division sides in the tournament. All that and more in the latest edition of the K League United Podcast.
What a wonderful weekend of FA Cup action, with Premier League teams slouching to defeat across the land. We look back on Newport’s heroics, a furious Claudio Ranieri, a raging Neil Warnock and some most unFulhamish behaviour in the form of some projectile gloves. There’s also some suggested rule changes from you, our dear listeners, an update on the Cardiff banner man, sartorial confusion courtesy of Tony Adams and Franck Ribery’s surprisingly controversial golden steak.
