In the summer of 1974, paranormal investigators and UCLA students Barry Taff and Kerry Gaynor were approached in a bookstore by a woman who'd overheard their conversation about the supernatural and said she had a friend who needed help from someone with their expertise. The friend in question was Doris Bither, a middle-aged single mother of four who claimed she and her family were under attack from unseen entities in their Culver City, California home. According to Doris, the attacks began several months earlier and included, among other things, objects moving on their own, the presence of inexplicable foul odors in the house, unusual noises with no point of origin, and most distressingly, multiple physical and sexual assaults that were increasing in frequency and intensity. Suzanne Collins we coming for you and to get Battle Royale their whole damn royalty checks that they are owed. Movie Synopsis: Battle Royale is a 2000 Japanese action-thriller film[4][5] directed by Kinji Fukasaku, with a screenplay written by Kenta Fukasaku, based on the controversial 1999 novel by Koushun Takami. Starring Tatsuya Fujiwara, Aki Maeda, Tarō Yamamoto, and Takeshi Kitano, the film follows a group of junior-high-school students forced to fight to the death by the Japanese totalitarian government. The film drew controversy and was banned or excluded from distribution in several countries. Toei Company refused to sell the film to any United States distributor for over a decade due to concerns about potential controversy and lawsuits, until Anchor Bay Entertainment eventually acquired the film in 2010 for a direct-to-video release.

The Slasher film is easily one of the most popular subgenres in all of cinema. The genre's roots begin with Hitchcock's desire to modernize the horror genre by taking it out of European castles and removing werewolves and vampires. 1960's Psycho and Peeping Tom are true predecessors to 1978's Halloween. That being said, Halloween is seen as the first film to solidify what would become the slasher formula. Just six years later, A Nightmare On Elm Street shows the evolution of the genre featuring a comedic and vocal antagonist which departed from the silent stalkers embodied by Michael Myers and Jason Vorhees. It doesn't matter how fast you run, Episode 0034 of Movie Wars will find you.  Film Summaries A Nightmare On Elm Street In Wes Craven's classic slasher film, several Midwestern teenagers fall prey to Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), a disfigured midnight mangler who preys on the teenagers in their dreams -- which, in turn, kills them in reality. After investigating the phenomenon, Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) begins to suspect that a dark secret kept by her and her friends' parents may be the key to unraveling the mystery, but can Nancy and her boyfriend Glen (Johnny Depp) solve the puzzle before it's too late? A Chilling On Screen Presence In The Lost, Cabin Fever 2, Red White & Blue, and The Devil's Carnival Belies This Thoughtful, Creative ActorIn 2006, Kevin was invited by his friends at Anchor Bay Entertainment to attend the Toronto premiere of prolific genre writer Jack Ketchum's new film “The Lost”. Directed by Chris Sivertson, the film is loosely based on the Pied Piper of Tucson murders. The films antagonist is an eccentric and sociopathic young man named Ray Pye. It's a challenging character to play as the whole film rests on his shoulders and the audience has to stay with the character but is never charmed by him like they are with Hannibal Lecter or sympathetic toward him like with Noman Bates. The character is played by Marc Senter and it's a staggering performance. Kevin said to several people after the film, “I can't wait to see what he does next!”From his role as the damaged and vulnerable Franki in “Red, White and Blue” to “The Scorpion” in Darren Lynn Bousman's bonkers musical “The Devil's Carnival”, Marc is an actor who brings something new and surprising to every role. He's one of those actors that when they appear on screen, you see everyone in the audience sit up as they know something special is about to happen.Marc and Kevin talk about doing your homework as an actor, using a hangover to craft a part of a performance and how deep to dig when playing a real-life psychopath. And unlike the many dark and sinister character's Marc has played, he a lovely guy who's open and always present. So, put some crushed beer cans in your boots and let's explore the mysterious mind of Marc Senter! Book Battle Royale By Koushun Takami Film: Battle Royale (1999)   Originally completed in 1996, it was not published until 1999. The story tells of junior high school students who are forced to fight each other to the death in a program run by a fictional authoritarian Japanese government known as the Republic of Greater East Asia. The dystopian novel was previously entered into the 1997 Japan Horror Fiction Awards but was eventually rejected in the final round due to concerns over its depictions of students killing each other. Upon publication in 1999, the novel became a surprise bestseller.   In 2000, one year after publication, Battle Royale was adapted into a manga series, written by Takami himself, and a feature film. The film was both controversial and successful, becoming one of the year's highest-grossing films as well as prompting condemnation by Japan's National Diet. The film spawned a sequel, and two more brief manga adaptations were also created.  Suzanne Collins author of The Hunger Games would be accused of ripping off the plot of Battle Royale.      The Japanese action-thriller film directed by Kinji Fukasaku, with a screenplay written by Kenta Fukasaku, Starring Tatsuya Fujiwara, Aki Maeda, Tarō Yamamoto, and Takeshi Kitano, the film follows a group of junior high-school students that are forced to fight to the death by the Japanese totalitarian government. Since the film's release, the term "battle royale" has been redefined to refer to a fictional narrative genre and/or mode of entertainment inspired by the film, where a select group of people are instructed to kill each other off until there is a triumphant survivor. It has inspired numerous media, including films, books, animation, comics, visual novels, and video games; the battle royale game genre, for example, is based on the film.   Opening Credits; Introduction (1.01); Forming the Plot (09.20); Plot Synopsis (11.18); Book Thoughts (18.07); Queston of the Week (46.20); How many stars? Anchor Bay Entertainment can date its origins back to two home video distributors: Video Treasures, formed in 1985, and Starmaker Entertainment, founded in 1988. The companies competed with each other for years, until they were sold to the Handleman Company, and formed a new corporate umbrella: Anchor Bay Entertainment, on May 2, 1995. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Anchor Bay specialized in the release of horror films, particularly cult films and slasher movies from the 1970s and 1980s, exposing the likes of Lucio Fulci, the EVIL DEAD films, and DAY OF THE DEAD to an entire generation of genre fans through their special edition, uncut releases.

As editors, it's not uncommon to have a perpetual bowl of M&M's and a Coke next to your keyboard 12 hours a day (we've all been there). The question is, are the 3 Cokes a day simply a "treat," or are you actually addicted? In this episode I have an honest and emotional conversation with editors Siân Fever and Monica Daniel about their recent journeys with removing sugar from their diets. We talk about why they chose to do it, what their experiences were like during the withdrawal process, and most importantly, the positive effects it had on their energy, focus, and mood once they emerged from the dark side. Click here to download our bonus document "5 Ways to Overcome Sugar Addiction" Our show sponsors: EditStock.com Topics of Conversation: Monica and Siân’s relationship with sugar Why they decided to quit cold turkey Monica’s experience avoiding sugar for the first few weeks How Monica is kicking this habit over the long term Sugar is actually a neurological craving When Siân realized she had a problem with sugar Siân’s experience with quitting sugar cold turkey Monica and Siân’s stories are not uncommon! How sugar works Having a problem with sugar is not shameful Monica and Siân’s sugar withdrawal symptoms: shakes, headaches, always feeling hungry, pain in the gums, restlessness etc. Your tastebuds change when you are eating more/less sugar Siân was using sweets as a “reward” for everything How cutting sugar helped with their focus and general quality of life Reducing sugar can clear your skin and make you LOOK healthier too!
