When we wake up in the morning, we are supposed to say modeh ani lefanecha and thank Hashem for giving us another day of life. We are to recognize what an opportunity we have to spend another day living life and perform mitvot . From the moment we get up, we have so many golden opportunities for mitvot , washing our hands properly, putting on tzitzit , saying birkot hashachar , and so on. We have endless opportunities to amass spiritual fortunes every single day. And it is with that attitude that we are supposed to get up excited to serve our Creator. A man I know, who we'll call Joe, told me he has a picture hanging on his wall that he looks at every morning when he gets up before he says modeh ani , and that picture gives him an extra special feeling of hakarat hatov to Hashem for the life that Hashem gives him. That appreciation extends to every moment of his day, and he lives life with enthusiasm and joy, happy to be alive and serving Hashem. His story begins on February 26, 1993. Joe worked for the Port Authority and his office was on the 88 floor on the North Tower in the World Trade Center. He was called down to a cafeteria on the lower level to deliver an envelope to his boss that day. Moments after he left, a bomb exploded on the B2 level of that building, killing 6 people and injuring over 1000. His boss, who he just delivered the letter to, was one of the casualties. Joe's entire body was filled with soot and he inhaled a lot of smoke, but baruch Hashem he was eventually evacuated, being led to an exit on the B1 level of the building. About 8 years later on September 11, 2001, Joe was in his office on the 88 floor of the North Tower when the first plane hit just five floors above him. After the initial shock, people began evacuating using the staircase as the elevators were out of commission. Joe was with another man there who was in his 90's. He told the man not to worry, he was going to stay with him. They went to the stairwell and saw that it was mobbed with people. Joe told the older man they would go back to his office and wait until the crowd dissipated and then make their way down. About 15 minutes later, they went back there and this time the stairs were clear. It took Joe and this older man about an hour and fifteen minutes to make their way down all those 88 flights. When they got to floor #20, a loud noise was heard and the lights went out. That must have been when the South Tower fell. When they finally got down to the bottom, firemen were telling them they couldn't exit from there. They went back up a few flights and they couldn't exit there either. They went back down again, finally, they made their way to the B1 level. The last time Joe was there was when he was evacuated in 1993. From that experience, he knew exactly where to go this time. They found an exit which led them out to a place which protected them from falling debris. Just a few minutes after they exited the building and took cover behind a larger building, the North Tower collapsed. Joe couldn't believe his eyes, watching as the horror unfolded. His life was spared a second time. He couldn't contact his wife and family but when he finally arrived home that evening to his house in New Jersey, there was a sigh of relief and celebration surrounding him. Unfortunately, he found out afterward that 16 of his coworkers did not make it out in time. He looked back at the tragedy in 1993 and said, Hashem was showing me the exit then that I needed to save my life now . A few days later, he hung up a picture of him and those 16 coworkers on his bedroom wall. When he wakes up in the morning, he looks at the picture and thanks Hashem for giving him another day of life. He has a reminder of how precious life is, but if we put a little thought into it, we could also have those same feelings of gratitude to Hashem every day and be excited and enthusiastic about getting another opportunity to live and do mitzvot and learn Torah and be the best we're capable of being.

L'été approche en Europe et qui dit été dit… vacances et sans doute pause de cours de français. Que ce soit toi qui décides de faire une pause ou ton école qui ferme, il se peut que tes cours soient à l'arrêt. Evidemment, il n'y a pas qu'en été où on fait des pauses. Beaucoup de mes élèves font des pauses aussi hors saison. Que ce soit en été, ou hors saison, la crainte de la plupart de mes élèves lorsqu'ils font une pause est de tout perdre et de devoir revenir en arrière en français. Cette crainte est légitime. Imagine, tu suis des cours pendant quelques mois, tu travailles dur. Tu étudies et tu pratiques régulièrement. Tu décides de faire une pause et tu perds ce que tu as appris. C'est un peu comme un régime alimentaire pour perdre du poids. Tu fais énormément d'effort pour perdre quelques kilos et dès que tu arrêtes, tes kilos reviennent. C'est d'ailleurs souvent ce qui se passe. Heureusement, apprendre le français n'est pas du tout comme un régime alimentaire. Lorsque les pauses sont bien planifiées, il n'y a aucune raison que tu perdes tout ce que tu as appris. Au contraire, cela peut te permettre de faire le point sur tes connaissances et de ralentir la cadence. Quand on apprend le français, il faut bien faire des pauses et se déconnecter de temps en temps. Il faut déconnecter du travail (je suis coupable - je suis la dernière à déconnecter) et aussi des activités et des projets. En règle générale, je ne recommande pas de trop longues pauses avant le niveau B2. Le plus important est d'identifier si tu en as besoin et envie de faire une pause ou non. Savais-tu qu'il existe le “burn-out” de l'apprentissage du français ? Le fait de se sentir sous pression, de ne pas progresser, de ne plus y croire, de ne plus aimer les cours… Si tu ressens ces signes, tu dois envisager de faire une pause. In this English lesson, I wanted to help you learn the English phrase "good catch." We say this phrase when someone else tells us about a mistake we've made. Let's say you put two big crates on the back of a truck, and you put straps on the one crate to hold it down, and you forgot about the second one, and someone said to you, "Hey, you forgot to put straps on that crate." You would say, "good catch."Sometimes when I give students a test I make a mistake, and a student might say, "Hey, question number four has a mistake in it." And I would respond and say, "Good catch." Basically, it's kind of like saying, "Thank you for finding the mistake." If one of you heard me make a mistake in a video and you mentioned it in a comment, I would reply by saying, "Good catch." Basically saying, "Hey, you noticed the mistake.That's awesome." The second phrase I wanted to teach you today is the phrase "a real catch." When you say someone is a real catch. It means that they are a good person to have as a boyfriend or girlfriend, and maybe eventually marry. So here's a good example.Let's say your cousin is dating someone, and he's a doctor, and he has lots of money, and he's kind and generous, and he's not selfish, and he treats your cousin really, really well. You would say, "Wow, he's a good catch." Basically, a good catch, a real catch, a catch.You can use any of those. He's a real catch. Basically, saying that. Wow, you found a really special person to be your boyfriend or girlfriend. But hey, oh, to review, good catch means hey, you saw a mistake and you told me about it and I thanking and I'm thanking you for it.A real catch or a catch is simply someone, just a really nice person. They don't have to be rich, they don't have to be a doctor, but just someone who you would want to spend the rest of your life with. Sorry, I'm a little distracted at all the traffic, and I also feel like my new haircut.And this sky always makes me look like I have no hair at all. I don't know, it's kind of weird lighting. Anyways, let's look at a comment from a previous video. This is from Prince. Please also do C1 - C2. I can't find enough good material on YouTube, cause most is basic.Thank you. And then my response, good point. Most of my lessons are based on phrases I've heard in real life the past week, so I'm sure some C1 - C2 slips in once in a while. So Prince, thank you for that comment. And yes, that is the reality that there are going to be some words that slip in because I don't actually, it's kind of loud over there.I hope you can't hear that. I don't actually look for A2, B1, and B2 phrases to teach you. I actually just listen and I think to myself, oh, that's an interesting phrase. I should explain it to all of my viewers. So yes, because of that, there will occasionally be C1 and C2 phrases that come in.Hey, do you want to see the town I'm in? This is the town of Fenwick. You might have seen that when I was doing the first part of the video. There was a nice sign. I thought I would show you this town because it is a typical small Canadian town.I don't think I've visited this town to make a video at all. But you can see there is a nice little family restaurant, and they even have a patio that you can sit on. There's parking along the road, which is kind of handy because I parked my car down there.I think up here we have a post office as well, so you have the Fenwick post office. Honestly, the post office is looking a little bit dated, which means it looks a little bit old. Across the road, you have a coffee shop.I think it's called, I'm not sure what it's called. I thought it was called the Bin, and then a little convenience store. And then, of course, because I'm in North America, we always have really fancy pickup trucks to look at. Today's Headlines: The Wall Street Journal revealed that Trump personally called a senior DOJ official to settle the antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation — days before trial, after Live Nation's CEO met with Trump at the White House to "discuss Kennedy Center bookings". Live Nation reportedly promised $10 billion in US investment in exchange for a favorable settlement so generous that most states refused to join it and kept suing, ultimately winning a jury verdict in April finding Live Nation illegally monopolizing the concert ticketing market. The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 to let Trump's mail-in voting restrictions move forward — not on whether they're constitutional, but on whether states had legal standing to sue — meaning DHS is now distributing citizenship lists to states and the Postal Service will only send ballots to pre-approved voters, with each state left to decide whether to comply before the Court rules on the actual merits, which is a convenient timeline heading into November. The Court also let Trump's ballroom-bunker construction continue while they decide whether it can continue. Yes, you read that right. On the immigration beat, the Trump administration is planning the largest mass visa revocation in US history, targeting up to 200,000 B1 and B2 visas held by asylum seekers issued between 2016 and 2026. And because somehow we are still at war with Iran even after “winning” several times, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent held an event threatening any country that does business with Iran with "the full reach of American power" under something called Operation Economic Outcast, without specifying any actual steps or deadlines, while Iran's trading partners apparently told them they don't really care. And finally, today is the South Carolina Senate runoff between Lindsey Graham's sister Darline — who refused to say whether she would have certified Biden's 2020 win — and Ralph Norman, with Trump's super PAC spending $800,000 on her behalf.
