In 1999, another abduction rocked North Texas when 6-year-old Opal Jo Jennings was snatched in broad daylight as she played with other children in a field next to her house. The similarities were striking, and police in Arlington thought they had their man. In 2007, in Tacoma Washington, a twisted child rapist was exposed when he murdered one of his victims, and his ties to Fort Worth, Texas put him on the persons of interest list in the Amber Hagerman case. The following year, police in Dickinson, Texas renew an investigation from 1990 in which the victim, left for dead, survived. In 2009, her would-be killer was identified and arrested. It's unclear if this suspect was ever investigated for the 1996 murder of 9-year-old Amber Rene Hagerman, or if the survivor's case was even compared at all. Part 6 of 7. If you have any information about the abduction and murder of Amber Rene Hagerman, please call the Arlington Police at (817)459-5772. Ethan Stewart-Smith is in his 11th season as the Men's Basketball Head Coach at Washington & Jefferson College. Faced with the task of rebuilding the program from the ground up when he took over in 2015, the Presidents have enjoyed great success with five winning seasons in the past six. W&J has twice finished the regular season atop of the PAC. The Presidents captured the 2021-22 PAC Tournament title and reached the finals again in 2024-25.Stewart-Smith joined W&J after a successful season as an assistant at Carnegie Mellon University in 2014-15. Prior to that, he spent five seasons as an assistant at Dickinson College. Before heading to Dickinson, Stewart-Smith was an assistant coach for one season at his alma mater, Penn State Altoona, where he graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business with concentrations in marketing and management. Ethan was a four-year starter at Altoona, where he was an all-conference selection as a junior and finished his playing career as the school's all-time leader in assists and steals. He still ranks in the top 10 in numerous statistical categories for the Lions. On this episode Mike & Ethan discuss Ethan Stewart Smith the challenges inherent in the collegiate basketball landscape. Ethan hits on the often-overlooked learning curve that high school seniors and their families encounter when transitioning to a college program, particularly at the Division III level. Coach Smith emphasizes that many players, despite their prior successes, underestimate the rigorous demands and competitive nature of collegiate athletics. He also shares insights from his own coaching journey, highlighting the importance of resilience, adaptability, and the cultivation of a strong team culture, particularly during the rebuilding phases of a program. Throughout this episode, we delve into the multifaceted aspects of player development, recruitment, and the profound impact of mentorship within the realm of college basketball.Follow us on Twitter and Instagram @hoopheadspod for the latest updates on episodes, guests, and events from the Hoop Heads Pod.Make sure you're subscribed to the Hoop Heads Pod on Apple, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts and while you're there please leave us a 5 star rating and review. Since its release in 1976, ABBA's song "Fernando" has been loved by fans around the globe both for its sing-along chorus and its revolutionary spirit. In Fernando: A Song by ABBA (Duke UP, 2025), Kay Dickinson takes readers from Sweden and Chile to Australia and Poland, tracing the complicated ways the song could express support with anticapitalist and Third World liberation struggles while remaining an unrepentant commodity. A song about freedom fighters was unlikely to become a pop mega-hit, yet as Dickinson demonstrates, ABBA's lucrative, longstanding appeal rests on their ability to bridge contradictions within everyday life. Five decades later, "Fernando's" rousing calls for freedom continue to resonate with gay liberation movements and other social struggles, demonstrating how a song can be both revolutionary and an envoy for global capital. To celebrate Melvyn Bragg's 27 years presenting In Our Time, five well-known fans of the programme have chosen their favourite episodes. Comedian Frank Skinner has picked the episode on the life and work of the poet Emily Dickinson and recorded an introduction to it. (This introduction will be available on BBC Sounds and the In Our Time webpage shortly after the broadcast and will be longer than the version broadcast on Radio 4). Emily Dickinson was arguably the most startling and original poet in America in the C19th. According to Thomas Wentworth Higginson, her correspondent and mentor, writing 15 years after her death, "Few events in American literary history have been more curious than the sudden rise of Emily Dickinson into a posthumous fame only more accentuated by the utterly recluse character of her life and by her aversion to even a literary publicity." That was in 1891 and, as more of Dickinson's poems were published, and more of her remaining letters, the more the interest in her and appreciation of her grew. With her distinctive voice, her abundance, and her exploration of her private world, she is now seen by many as one of the great lyric poets. Today on Script Apart – Harris Dickinson: star of films like Babygirl and Triangle of Sadness, John Lennon in the upcoming Beatles biopics from Sam Mendes, and now, a formidable presence on the other side of the camera too. Urchin, the new drama written and directed by Harris, is a feature debut that “I cannot escape and I cannot forget,” to quote the Atomic Kitten song that plays in a pivotal scene. It's a story that hit close to home for me, quite literally. Harris lives kinda down the street from where I'm from. He shot a lot of Urchin in locations I used to tread every day before moving to LA earlier this year. And as we discuss in this spoiler conversation, we've both volunteered with local organisations a stone's throw from each other, providing support to unhoused people in east London. In fact, it was while doing this volunteer work one day that Harris conjured the idea for Urchin – a story about a young man sleeping rough in Hackney, struggling with addiction and poverty, played by Frank Dillane. If that sounds like a gritty social realist drama you've seen before, well, you're only half right. Urchin takes raw ingredients from that cinematic tradition and adds big, strange, lyrical leaps that make you feel the isolation and alienation that Frank's character, Mike, feels. It all leads up to an ending that's spine-tingling. In the conversation you're about to hear, Harris and I break down key scenes and characters from the film, the real-life problems he hopes the film helps draw attention towards – and of course, Atomic Kitten, because how could we not? I hope it makes you whole again, listeners. Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. That couldn't have gone much worse, could it? From Nicoló Savona's yellow card after 30 seconds, to conceding from the resulting free kick, all the way through poor team defending for the second and third goals, the Reds were rightly punished for a poor display. Sure, there were a couple of decisions that might have made a marginal difference, with Tarkowski's off-the-ball barge on Ndoye going unpunished, and Reds players and management absolutely adamant that the ball hit the ref on the way to goal number 2, but the performance suggested that we are clutching at straws. George Edwards is joined by Katie Campbell for a rant recorded after a long journey back to Nottingham, and the view from the opposition comes from Adam of the Call Of Everton. We'll be back with Yatesy's Espresso Bar in midweek, before another trip to Europe for the game against Utrecht on Thursday. It's a dream (or nightmare?) lefty-righty combo: Sheng is paired with just Dan Boyle today! Does Macklin Celebrini have a strong case for the Hart Trophy? Sheng thinks so. How about Alex Wennberg for…Selke? It's not as crazy as it sounds. We also discuss the state of the San Jose Sharks' blueline: Who deserves to play every night? What's going on with Shakir Mukhamadullin? What's a path for the young San Jose Sharks defenseman to get more consistent playing time? Dan is honest about what he's seen from John Klingberg this season. Sheng asked some NHL scouts about Nick Leddy. Finally, Dan recalls when he knew that it was time for him to retire. There's a new streaming service out called The Network, and it just dropped a new series, The Artist. Set in 1906 Rhode Island, the show follows Norman and Marian Henry (Mandy Patinkin and Janet McTeer), a powerful but couple in a rocky marriage whose estate becomes ground zero for a murder mystery. Part upstairs/downstairs drama and part absurd comedy, it brings a modern, loosely improvised energy to period TV in a way that sits somewhere between The Great and Dickinson. The ensemble includes Danny Huston as Edgar Degas and Hank Azaria as Thomas Edison, and in the premiere their storylines. Tune in to hear our pros, cons, comparisons, and rating. Mac Childs has had the privilege of growing up with a caring family including siblings and a dog. He attended top schools where he played alongside the most talented teammates and learned from the best coaches all of whom instilled consistency, discipline, and a passion for growing the game. While his environment provided the framework to succeed in athletics, he also grew up in a culture where alcohol and substance use was associated with fun. At a relatively young age, he transformed from a participant to an initiator leading others to confront his choices. In 2021, the age of 18, things had progressed to a point where he had to make the uncomfortable decision to enter a treatment facility, talk about his insecurities and make the commitment  to focus on his physical and mental health. As a senior captain on the Dickinson Men's lacrosse team, Mac is now inspiring others though his play on the field but more so, his impact off the field. He serves as the SAAC membership chair, is a mental health and addiction awareness speaker, advocate and mentor for Athletes Better Together, Dickinson Athletics, and Generation S.O.S. He is described as purposeful, impactful, honest and strong. How does he earn such high praise? He is intentional, has empathy, and believes it's cool to care! @macmchilds, @athletesbettertogether

We're continuing to blaze a trail through the many, many movies opening on October 10 here at Breakfast All Day.  Earlier this week, we reviewed TRON: ARES, A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE and KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN. Today, we discussed: ROOFMAN: Channing Tatum is ridiculously charming as a robber who escapes from prison and hides inside a Toys "R" Us store for six months. This actually happened. We enjoyed Tatum's performance, and the cast is strong, but the tone is off from indie director Derek Cianfrance. In theaters. URCHIN: Harris Dickinson makes an auspicious filmmaking debut with this gritty and intimate tale of addiction. Dickinson writes, directs and has a small supporting role, but Frank Dillane is the star as a young man trying to get clean but getting in his own way. In theaters. MOVIE NEWS LIVE! This was a lengthy one since we took last week off and there's so much to discuss. Among this week's topics were "Marty Supreme," the Riyadh Comedy Festival, the Melania Trump documentary, Rush reuniting with a new drummer, and the Smashing Pumpkins smoothie at Erewhon. We're hoping to go live again next Friday, so stay tuned for details. Thanks for being with us during this busy time! This week's Empire Podcast sees us welcome another hat-trick of wonderful guests, as Chris Hewitt has lovely chats with The Smashing Machine writer-director (and Happy Gilmore 2 villain), Benny Safdie, [24:13 - 40:39 approx] and bona fide acting legend, Malcolm McDowell, star of new WWII drama, The Partisan (please excuse the sound quality of Chris' mic); [59:42 - 1:13:48 approx] while John Nugent sits down with Urchin director, Harris Dickinson, about making his directorial debut with the acclaimed drama. [1:37:05 - 1:52:43 approx] Either side of those, Chris doesn't let a little thing like Covid-19 stop him from hosting this week, dialling in to the podbooth (again, please do forgive the odd attendant audio glitch) to have all kinds of film-related fun with Helen O'Hara and James Dyer. The trio discuss some of the best final films from acting greats, run their eyes over Urchin, Play Dirty, The Smashing Machine, and Him, and find the week's movie news to be so lacking that they wind up doing an impromptu Simpsons quiz. Oh, and James is all giddy this week, after a close encounter with none other than Taylor Swift. To find out how close she came to being on this show, or a Cats retro spoiler special, you're going to have to listen. Enjoy.
