STARLINK: THE ECONOMIC ENGINE FOR MARS Colleague Eric Berger. To finance the massive costs of the Mars program, SpaceX developed Starlink, a constellation of thousands of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites designed to provide global internet. While previous attempts at LEO constellations were deemed impractical due to manufacturing challenges, SpaceX is now operating thousands of satellites, outpacing sovereign nations and competitors like Amazon's Kuiper. This aggressive expansion relies on the reusable Block 5 Falcon 9 boosters to launch dozens of satellites at once, generating the revenue necessary to build the Starship architecture. For decades, Democratic politicians have frustrated progressives by tinkering around the margins of policy while shying away from truly ambitious change. What happened to bold political vision on the left, and what shrunk the very horizons of possibility? In Thinking like an Economist, Elizabeth Popp Berman tells the story of how a distinctive way of thinking—an “economic style of reasoning”—became dominant in Washington between the 1960s and the 1980s and how it continues to dramatically narrow debates over public policy today. Introduced by liberal technocrats who hoped to improve government, this way of thinking was grounded in economics but also transformed law and policy. At its core was an economic understanding of efficiency, and its advocates often found themselves allied with Republicans and in conflict with liberal Democrats who argued for rights, equality, and limits on corporate power. By the Carter administration, economic reasoning had spread throughout government policy and laws affecting poverty, healthcare, antitrust, transportation, and the environment. Fearing waste and overspending, liberals reined in their ambitions for decades to come, even as Reagan and his Republican successors argued for economic efficiency only when it helped their own goals.A compelling account that illuminates what brought American politics to its current state, Thinking like an Economist also offers critical lessons for the future. With the political left resurgent today, Democrats seem poised to break with the past—but doing so will require abandoning the shibboleth of economic efficiency and successfully advocating new ways of thinking about policy. Military veteran and entrepreneur Chad Grills is cautiously optimistic about the direction the country is heading under the Trump 2.0 administration due to the appetite for cutting regulations and reining in spending. As growth unlocks through policy changes, what other opportunities await those ambitious to build businesses in the United States? Reimagining capital allocation in the public and private sectors fuels innovation and development across many industries, especially technology. As the growth of AI, crypto, and blockchain open up trillion-dollar opportunities in places like Austin, Texas, places such as Silicon Valley lag behind, stiffled by regulations, taxes, and California's addiction to woke-ism. FAN MAIL--We would love YOUR feedback--Send us a Text MessageThe American economy is running like a race car at half speed, averaging just 1.8% GDP growth over the past two decades when it should be soaring at 3% or higher. This sluggish performance isn't inevitable – it's the result of specific policy choices that have weighed down our economic engine.Using a powerful race car analogy, we explore how tax cuts function as essential engine maintenance for the economy, while excessive government spending adds unnecessary weight that drags down performance. The current initiatives to trim bureaucratic waste through the Department of Government Efficiency represent steps in the right direction, but decades of congressional neglect in oversight responsibilities have allowed inefficiencies to multiply unchecked.Monetary policy plays a crucial role as the fuel for our economic engine. We examine Steve Forbes' compelling argument for returning to the gold standard in his book "Inflation" – a policy that historically coincided with America's greatest periods of prosperity and near-full employment. During the late 1800s under the classical gold standard, more wealth was created than in all previous centuries combined. Similarly, both the 1920s and 1960s saw unemployment rates below 5% when the dollar was pegged to gold. While the political will for such a fundamental reform seems absent today, the historical evidence suggests we should at least aim to keep inflation consistently below 3%.As we approach America's 250th anniversary in 2026, we have a unique opportunity to implement policies that will restore robust economic growth. By properly maintaining our economic engine through tax cuts, providing clean fuel through sound monetary policy, and removing excess weight through spending discipline, we can get America's race car humming at full capacity again – creating opportunity and advancement for all Americans. What policies do you think would best accelerate our economic growth?Key Points from the Episode:• Tax cuts are essential to fix the economic engine and bring investment back to America• Excessive government spending acts as dead weight on the economy, requiring immediate reduction• Agencies often stonewall congressional oversight, perpetuating waste and inefficiency• Steve Forbes advocates returning to the gold standard to eliminate inflation and stabilize currency• During gold standard periods, America experienced robust growth and near-full employment• Whipping inflation requires supply-side solutions rather than just interest rate manipulation• The US needs consistent 3%+ GDP growth annually, not the 1.8% average of the past two decades• Tariffs and trade policy are like tires - important but not the first priority for economic repair• The Federal Reserve's fuel quality (monetary policy) needs significant improvementBe sure to check out our show page at teammojoacademy.com, where you'll find everything discussed in this podcast as well as other great resources.Other resources: Want to leave a review? Ben Landau Taylor is a writer, historian, and one of the minds behind the Bismark Brief, whose research is focused on understanding the life cycle of civilizations. Much of his work has been informed by the work of Caroll Quigley, who in the 1970s put together a seven part framework for how civilizations are born, mature, and eventually go extinct. His model was one of an economic instrument of expansion, where the tools of growth defined the success of the empire - a direct contradiction to contemporary Arnold Toynbee's perspective that it wasn't economics that drove civilization - it was some kind of spiritual commitment to a common cause. The economic model seemed more reasonable to Taylor, who then wanted to know - was it simply applicable to European history, or was this a more universal model? We talk about the ways that the rise and fall of civilizations generalizes across history, the place our own civilization is in the progression, and what the future might hold. Host Helen Lee continues her discussion with Dame Doria Cordova, the CEO / Owner of Excellerated Business Schools and Money & You, global organisations operating since 1979 with over 200,000 graduates from over 85 countries. Her purpose in life is to uplift humanity's consciousness through socially-responsible businesses, to teach people to create an Economic Engine around their Life Purpose. And one of her wonderful missions is also to feed the hungry worldwide by getting 100 billionaires to donate a billion dollars each.   Helen introduces this episode by talking about some of what the world has already done or is doing towards this end. She feels that we have not eradicated poverty as yet because the level of human consciousness has not risen en masse as yet. Certainly, this and other global problems of climate change and inequality, etc must be addressed and as we step up to meet them, we will do so, together, each in our own way. Doria's organisation has already created many entrepreneurs who have produced businesses that help solve the world's problems, placing the Earth and its resources and humanity at their forefront.  So have others who have platforms that help businesses contribute to a more positive world or create communities that rally around various critical issues that affect humanity. Helen and Doria talk about the current global economy, applying scepticism to combat those peddling fear of scarcity, what we can do for ourselves to thrive at this time, where to go to learn what you need to know, global paradigm shifts and how they will create change within us and how love and light in the most grounded and practical way has to be the path ahead for humanity.   Helen has, therefore, consciously chosen to interview change makers such as Doria (Episodes 38 & 39), Mia Kyricos (Episodes 28 & 29) and Neil Jacobs (Episode 14) who have successfully combined commercialism with consciousness and used love as a business strategy. And also featured those who can help others create wealth for themselves and specifically, to improve their relationship with money, such as Doria and Sarah McCrum (Episode 12).   Enjoy this episode and check out all the others mentioned above. There will be more to come. And in the meantime, transform with Helen, raise your consciousness and your "Deservability Quotient™️" as well, through this podcast, her Transform & Thrive Membership Club and the upcoming "Deservability Challenge™️" she will be conducting for listeners and clients soon. Check out www.transformandthrive.club and www.leeheiss.com for details.   KEY TAKEAWAYS The biggest challenge that we have is the sense that we live in a world of scarcity. Whenever you feel fear, your sense of scarcity has just been triggered. We need to feel sufficiency to circumvent this misaligned programming that we carry, that there is not enough for all of us. It is Doria's viewpoint that, often, those who predict an economic collapse or are constantly reiterating what she feels is a fear-based message have something to gain from it. She advises people to approach such predictions and messages with scepticism and intelligently, search for motive among fear pushers that they are financially gaining from the promotion of scarcity consciousness. Helen feels that no matter what happens or not, we need to review and reinvent ourselves, shift from a scarcity consciousness to an abundance mentality and create  prosperity for ourselves in all areas of our lives - as she has been advocating in the last two decades and this podcast (all the various episodes). Love works. Light works. Anything that isn't that, let it go. If there is going to be a shift in the world, when people understand that love is central.  Dame Doria's business schools specialise in teaching entrepreneurs  to solve some of the world's problems. This is the way forward at this time. People must be innovative to find new ways to thrive while the old ways collapse. Learn to create an economic engine around your life purpose. The new paradigm that is being created is for humans to go inside and work from within.    BEST MOMENTS 'I love it that she (Doria) has diligently and endlessly helped people all over the world create conscious, profitable and sustainable businesses that support both humanity and our planet.' ‘How about the average person? What would you say to them? How can they not only survive but thrive at this time when there is soaring inflation and generally things seem to be a lot harder?' – Helen  ‘Many people around me that I'm no longer surrounded by actually thrive from that fear. Whenever someone is peddling a lot of fear and ‘the collapse', I always want to see what they're selling.' – Dame Doria ‘You have to work from within but you also have to have very solid businesses and all I'm recommending when I speak of love and light is that you focus on that and not on the fear.' – Dame Doria 'The new paradigm that is being created is for humans to go inside, and that's why I was willing to come and do this interview...' - Dame Doria   ABOUT THE HOST HELEN LEE Founder & Principal Coach of Lee Heiss Coaching, Helen Lee coached thousands of clients worldwide and multinationals in Asia-Pacific in the last three decades.
