Jeff Pilson, bassist & keyboardist for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band Foreigner, has held down the bottom for the band for over 20 years. In high demand by other groups during his career, you'll also find him recording and/or touring with other bands including Dokken, Revolution Saints, The End Machine, Black Swan and others. In Part 2 of our interview with Jeff, multi-award winning program director Ray White caught up with him in August of 2024 to talk about the future of Foreigner, The End Machine's The Quantum Phase album and Black Swan's latest release Generation Mind. Be sure to listen to Part 1 of our interview with Jeff on Episode 184. A lotta rockin' and a little roll on this edition of the CAT!
We're back this week with our long-awaited Best of 2024 episode and there's a lot for you to wrap your ears around. In a time that many seem all-too-thrilled to declare the death of a genre, there was an increasing number of great albums and songs released last year. Plenty of new material from veteran artists was released in 2024 including albums by Judas Priest, Ace Frehley, Marilyn Manson, Saxon, and Accept among others. Lots of newer bands were forging their own path last year with new music such as DAZR, Starcrazy, Haunt and more. Other notable releases for 2024 included music from Sebastian Bach, Eclipse, The End Machine, and many more. Did any of these albums make our lists? You'll have to listen to find out. Chris and Aaron each count down their Top 10 releases from the year that was 2024. We hope you enjoy and share YOUR choices in the comments! In this comprehensive and engaging podcast episode, the esteemed Jeff Pilson, a venerated stalwart of the rock music community, takes listeners on a deep dive into the intricate weave of his extensive musical journey. With a narrative rich in anecdotes and personal reflections, he paints a vivid picture of the electric ambiance at seminal concerts of his youth, such as the historic Milwaukee Pop Festival. There, he bore witness to revolutionary acts that profoundly influenced his artistic development. He recalls with palpable enthusiasm the formidable stage presence of rock titans Led Zeppelin and the complex artistry of progressive rock luminaries Emerson, Lake & Palmer.Jeff offers an intimate glimpse into his own illustrious history of live performances, including the surreal honor of sharing the stage with Led Zeppelin at the prestigious O2 Arena—a defining moment for any musician. He speaks with frankness about the challenges of live shows, from contending with the whims of the elements to the sheer physicality of performance, and reflects on how these trials have honed his skills and resilience as an artist. The conversation then turns to the sacred rituals that encircle his live performances. Jeff details the rigorous pre-show preparations that prime him mentally and physically, as well as the post-show traditions that facilitate a period of decompression and contemplation of the dynamic interplay with his audience.Peering into the horizon, Jeff conveys his palpable enthusiasm for the forthcoming endeavors with his band The End Machine, particularly their eagerly anticipated album "The Quantum Phase" which will be released on March 8th. He hints at innovative musical explorations and the relentless pursuit of excellence that drives them to transcend genre limitations. His passion for creating enduring music is evident as he discusses his ambition to compose tracks that resonate with the timeless quality of his early influences.A poignant moment in the episode arrives when Jeff shares his aspiration to have worked with the late Greg Lake, whose legacy continues to inspire him. He also delves into the emotional significance of classical music in his life, highlighting the transformative impact of Debussy's "Clair de Lune" on his musical sensibilities, showcasing the breadth of his appreciation for music across genres. As the interview winds down, Jeff conveys a sincere sense of thankfulness for the chance to recount his musical odyssey to listeners. Guitarist George Lynch has been involved with four albums released in 2023! May 2023 brought us the new Sweet & Lynch album, Heart & Sacrifice. In August, the new George Lynch & Jeff Pilson album, Heavy Hitters II was unleashed. In September, we were graced with a new solo album from George, Guitars At The End Of The World, followed by the new Lynch Mob album, Babylon, released in October! What a great year for fans of George's incredible guitar skills. We got the chance to get together with George and discuss his very productive year! We talk about what's coming up in the world of Lynch Mob, working with longtime friend Jeff Pilson, how being creative is still exciting, and George does a little self assessment along the way. I have long admired George's guitar capabilities, but during this chat he has also become one of my favorite comedians! George is candid, funny, and a true joy to speak with. He has some more music coming our way in 2024, and I think he will be in serious contention for the 251st position on Rolling Stones top 250 guitar player list next year. What am I talking about? Join our conversation and find out, plus at the end, we feature a song from each of the four albums George released this year! Rock and Roll music (and conversation) that DESERVES to be heard!
THAT METAL INTERVIEW presents George Lynch of LYNCH MOB formerly of DOKKEN (recorded October 2023). Lynch talks about his personal life as a normal human being and expresses his appreciation for MICHAEL SCHENKER's talent and contribution to the music business. That Metal Interview Podcast is FREE and ON DEMAND, stream now on Apple Podcasts, iHeart Radio, Spotify, Anchor, Google Podcasts, Pandora, Amazon Music, TuneIn, Deezer, Bandcamp.Listen to #ThatMetalInterviewPodcast: https://lnk.to/uj7sH3k4Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ThatMetalInterv Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thatmetalinterview/Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ThatMetalInterviewSubscribe on YouTube: http://youtube.com/JrocksMetalZoneSupport the show(9) Facebook(6) That Metal Interview Podcast (@ThatMetalInterv) / X (twitter.com)That Metal Interview Podcast (@thatmetalinterview) • Instagram photos and videos(2297) That Metal Interview Podcast - YouTube

Jeff Pilson rose to fame as an integral member of DOKKEN in the heady days of 80s. 3 platinum albums and 10 million record sales in 5 years put the group at the top of the scene, but the tumultuous balance in the group meant it wasn't to last. Jeff talks openly about his time in DOKKEN, how he felt when they broke up and more. He also talks of his admiration for his friend RONNIE JAMES DIO, whom he played, recorded and toured with for years and of joining MICK JONES and FOREIGNER who he's been with since 2004. Jeff is also busy with other projects including THE END MACHINE, with whom he's just released a critically acclaimed second album "Phase2" and BLACK SWAN who are currently recording their second album too! It's another great interview with rock and roll stories to tell. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
