How To Be Awesome At Everything Podcast

This episode is all about The Vacation Reset.  How to come home, take a fresh look at your routine, and use everything you felt and experienced on your trip to make your everyday more fulfilling. So rather than having post-vacation blues you have this fresh perspective on everything - what you're eating, what you're spending your free time doing, and what makes you feel the most alive.  It a post-vacation breakthrough podcast.     1. Why Vacation Is Such a Powerful Reset You break your routines naturally — new places, new foods, new experiences. You slow down and experience joy more intentionally. You're more present and tuned into how you actually feel. Mini Thought: → When you remove the autopilot of daily life, you notice what truly lights you up.   2. Coming Home: The Moment of Clarity You can feel what routines were serving you and which ones felt heavy. You're often able to clearly see what you missed (the good stuff!) — and what you didn't. Your nervous system resets — you realize where you were operating from stress without realizing it. Mini Thought: → Vacation gives you the contrast you need to upgrade your life.   3. How to Create Your Personal Vacation Reset Reflect: Ask yourself: What made me happiest on this trip? What did I not miss about home? Audit your life: What parts of your daily/weekly routines could feel lighter, freer, more intentional? Add in Micro-Experiences: Can you add mini "vacation moments" into your normal weeks (like trying new foods, spontaneous adventures, walks without your phone)? Declutter Your Calendar: Remove one thing that drains you. Commit to one thing that fills you up. Mini Thought: → Tiny changes = huge shifts in how your days feel.       4. Use Momentum Instead of Falling Into the Post-Vacation Slump Most people fall into the "Maui Blues" — they mourn that vacation life is over. Shift the story: Vacation isn't the escape — it's a preview of what more joyful living could look like. Plan small things you can look forward to each week (adventures, date nights, slow mornings). Keep something “vacation-inspired” going (sunsets, meals outside, afternoon walks). Mini Thought: → Build your real life to include the things you love about vacation life.     5. Fresh Eyes on Your Big Goals Being away from your normal environment clears your mental windshield. Look at your big goals again — are they still aligned? Or is it time to pivot? Use the renewed sense of energy and perspective to make bold moves or corrections. Mini Thought: → Fresh energy = a fresh roadmap toward what really matters.       Action items!!    -Make a list of what lit you up!  -Notice what you didn't miss about being away and what you dreaded coming back to then audit your calendar.  -Make a playlist that reminds you of your trip to keep that vibe going.  -Add something into your routine that you loved from your trip.  Like reading 10 pages or a long walk after dinner.  -Declutter one part of your space.  -Try a food at home that you loved on vacation.  -Think of tiny daily things that you loved there. Walking barefoot, eating more fruit, etc.      Vacation isn't just a break — it's a gift of perspective. And the best thing you can do is bring that joy, that presence, and that clarity back into your daily life. Instead of mourning the end of vacation, use it as a launchpad for better habits, better experiences, and a more intentional, vibrant life. Every day can have a little bit of that vacation magic — if you design it that way. Thanks for listening, and here's to your most awesome Vacation Reset yet!     Here is a link to Lindsay's 2.0 Calendar System if you want to tie this all together!  https://howtobeawesomeateverything.com/pages/2-0weeklyhabitsandplanningsystem

I am Infinite. I am cosmic. I am purple, obsequious, and clairvoyant. I am POST RELEVANT. I AM the END of the END of TIME.... Fall into the cosmic crystal oceans along the edge of the Lagoon Nebula and surf the silver tides of Aldebaran! The time has come for the grand entrance of the Ladies of the Hour. Let's all live in a swamp and be three dimensional! You are about to witness the return of the Elfling herself to the show for the first time ever! Ladies and Gentlemen, Its Laurelle Rethke, performer, healer, and curator of the Faerie Den crystal shop in NYC. I knew she would be perfect for investigating the deeper themes of the scene in "Under the Silver Lake" where Sam brings a gun to a hut and meets the Final Man and his three brides. And she was! She is! Laurelle and host Phil talk about what parts of the film were spooky, why she remembered UTSL as a bunch of scenes with pretty girls in them, and then we got in deep on the Moon. We dive like dolphins into the Moon's glades of significance - as a tarot card, as a temple, as a tempest temperature taker. We wander across the wonderland of the body's bioelectric fields , feet like salmon zodiacs transform into the apostles and figure out how many snakes Ophiucus is holding. We cast lines to catch the queen of the Fish Tower, Mary Magdalene, and slather on the nard to understand how the Ladies of the Hour applied the medicine. And we wonder about mystery witches wandering Mu.... Its a musical odyssey to make your honey hustle as Phil and Laurelle explore the multiversal moving picture known as "Under the Silver Lake" to a complete musical score. Also! A new song -- "Her Mystery School" -- debuts on the show. The "School" rocks like a crystal shop as the lyrics linger along levels of the edge of orange mirrors - see if you can decipher them on instagram.com/philristaino. Plus! All this and lowly comedy, too!!! Meet a real city-dwelling faerie as she skates the shapes of Persephone's fate and teaches us to cleanse our crystals in the moon light. Dusty Man Trap

Overall, dating has been fun and exciting. I have met some great guys and some dusty crusties. But recently, I fell into a dusty man trap. I usually don't dwell too much on unpleasant experiences, but sometimes it's necessary. Here's how I fell into a dusty-man trap. I always protect the innocent, so I'll call this guy Gary. Sorry to anyone named Gary. It's not personal. I have five things a guy must meet before I decide to go on a date with him.  ChristianHave a jobHave a carHave his own place to stayNo more than 1 child, but preferably none How it Started I mentioned those criteria because I went out on two dates with a guy who didn't meet any of them unbeknownst to me. He was a dusty man. Let's start at the beginning. I met Gary back in the early part of the year. We messaged and talked for a few weeks, but for whatever reason, we stopped talking. I don't remember why we stopped; I remember that we did.  Then summer hits, and I get a text from an unknown number. I respond out of curiosity. It's Gary! We chat for a while and decide to go out. I asked why we initially stopped talking during this chatting, and he changed the subject. Looking back, that should have been my first red flag. We had trouble finding the time to go out because I'm a busy woman. I don't cancel the plans I already made for a date. So we talked for about two weeks before we met up. During this time, I asked all the questions to make sure he met my first date criteria. He lied, but I had no way of knowing at the time. The Meetup A couple of days before we are supposed to go out, he calls and says he has to see me. I said we're supposed to go out soon, can't you wait? He said no, he had to see me right away. This is Sunday morning, and I'm getting ready for church. I didn't have time for a meet and greet. He kept calling and texting until I finally agreed to meet him. This should have been my second red flag. I get ready fast and meet him at an agreed-upon location near my church. I thought this would be an excellent opportunity to invite him to the church I'm always talking about. It's late June or early July, but it's super hot either way. The air in my car isn't working that well, so I'm sitting there sweating. Here comes Gary rolling up. He hops out of the vehicle in the most unflattering outfit I've ever seen. He had on a shirt with holes, basketball shorts, socks that didn't entirely cover his ashy feet, and slides. Disappointment At this point, I'm thinking to myself, you just had to see me, and this is how you look? I'm super annoyed. He gets out of the car and saunters over like he is God's gift to women. I purse my lips in preparation for nonsense to come out of his mouth. And it did. He starts talking about how he couldn't wait until our date to see me. He's licking his crusty lips every five seconds. I was so distracted by his appearance I don't remember what he said except that it could have waited until our date. I don't say anything because I'm hot and annoyed. Plus, he looked dusty. I let him talk for about 5 minutes, then said I needed to leave. At this point, I'm devising a plan in my head on how to let him down quickly. But it didn't go exactly as planned.  Falling Into the Trap The next day I called him. We're keeping it light at first, talking about everything and nothing. Then I hit him with I the I'm not romantically interested, and I think we should be friends. He says cool, but he would still like to hang out. I have no idea why, but I agree. This is how I fell into the dusty-man trap. As the week progresses, he calls me and says his car is in the shop and he lost his debit card. It sounds suspicious, but I say okay, do you want to hang out another time? He says no, he wants to see me again. We go out, and he meets me at the location. I have no idea how he got there. We have an okay time. He pays for the date with a wad of cash. At this point, I'm determined to break things off.

Seeking validation from clients can sabotage your coaching. It puts you in an up and down cycle of highs and lows and can affect your coaching. How can we identify this validation trap and thus avoid it? How can we keep our coaching free from needing personal validation and remain focused on our clients? Before we tackle this subject, it's important to acknowledge that wanting validation is completely normal. As coaches, we naturally tend to seek validation because we need to know we're truly helping others. It's part of our helper personalities. It's only when validation becomes too self-focused that we want to avoid. So don't judge yourself too harshly. What You'll Learn How to Recognize the Trap of Validation The client is in a pleaser role You're hyper-focused on yourself The safe, sacred space for the client is interrupted A positive response, rather than what is actually best for the client, is sought Honesty from the client is inhibited Empowerment is not supported How to Identify When You're Falling Into the Trap of Validation Asking if something is helpful Getting overly lit up from praise Feeling unsettled when the focus isn't on you Seeking validation that's unnecessary How to Avoid the Trap of Validation Never take credit Hold space for curiosity regarding success Define your success, separate from your clients Stay in your space, give your client theirs Contact Info and Recommended Resources The Coaching Collective: thecoachingcollective.com/ Work with Molly! mollyclaire.com/coaching

In the 1890s, Waldemar Haffkine worked valiantly to develop vaccines against both cholera and bubonic plague. Then an unjust accusation derailed his career. We'll also consider some museum cats and puzzle over an endlessly energetic vehicle. Intro: The Galveston hurricane of 1915 carried 21,000-pound buoy 10 miles. Christine Montross - Author of Falling Into the Fire: A Psychiatrist's Encounters with the Mind in Crisis, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Brown University, staff psychiatrist at Butler Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. When you really get down to it, the entirety of our life is a function of our perception.  The way we interact with the world is completely dependent on the way in which our brain deals with stimulus... that is our existence.  I'd say that's a pretty heavy task for one organ.  However, unlike the heart, which will circulate blood through the body the same way for you as it does for me, your brain will perceive these stimuli differently than mine will.  This difference forms our being, our identity.  For example, you and I could have a conversation and both of us could walk away with two completely different understandings.  We could eat the same food, watch the same movie, and work the same job - yet the way we experience these sensations will be only ours to understand. We tend to forget this simple fact on a daily basis for two main reasons.  First, all of us tend to deal with stimulus in relatively similar manners. Second, humans are magnificent at placing themselves at the center of the universe, assuming that everyone else is interpreting things the same way that they are.  However, we are abruptly made aware of our individuality when someone acts in a way that is extremely out of the ordinary - and this is where it get's really interesting. For example, what would cause a woman to purposefully ingest lightbulbs, a box of nails, and a steak knife, just to then admit herself to the emergency room? Why would an otherwise normal man attempt to amputate a fully functional limb? These are just some of the individuals that our guest this week, psychiatrist Christine Montross, sees on a daily basis in her profession working with the mentally ill.  This week we learn more about the devastation that can be caused when our brain malfunctions. Dr. Christine Montross is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, and Co-director of the Medical Humanities and Bioethics Scholarly Concentration at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She is also a staff psychiatrist at Butler Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. Dr. Montross has been named a 2010 MacColl Johnson fellow in Poetry, and the winner of the 2009 Eugene and Marilyn Glick Emerging Indiana Authors Award. She has had several poems published in literary journals, and her manuscript Embouchure was a finalist for the National Poetry Series. She has also written for many national publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post Book World, Good Housekeeping and O, The Oprah Magazine. Dr. Montross's first book, Body of Work, was named an Editors' Choice by The New York Times and one of The Washington Post's best nonfiction books of 2007. Her second book, Falling Into the Fire was named a New Yorker Book to Watch Out For. She and her partner, the playwright Deborah Salem Smith, live in Rhode Island with their two young children.
