In the Season 5 finale, Mike, Tom, and Kyle take on Point of Order (1964), Emile de Antonio's radical documentary assembled entirely from kinescope footage of the Army-McCarthy hearings. No narration. No talking heads. Just the hearings themselves and McCarthy slowly unraveling on camera. We dig into what makes this a film and not just a historical record, why de Antonio's editing choices still feel dangerous, and what the Library of Congress recognized when they added it to the National Film Registry. Since 1989, the National Film Registry has selected 25 films each year that are deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant". In each episode, Mike Natale (Yahoo!) and Tom Lorenzo (Men's Journal) bring on a special guest to take a look at one of the films from the registry, to get to the heart of why these films matter.

It's VSs month, actually it's now sort of 2 months, and this week we are comparing the two White House Based movies: White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen. We are starting with White House Down (WHD), here is the plot: The president has been kidnapped, and Mr Tatum must save the day, enticed? Sweet Smell of Success (1957) is one of the most visually ruthless films Hollywood ever made — and one that doesn't show up in the conversation as often as it should. We dig into James Wong Howe's New York City cinematography, the Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis dynamic, and what the Library of Congress saw in it when they added it to the National Film Registry. Since 1989, the National Film Registry has selected 25 films each year that are deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant". Get in, losers, we're going to Laputa! This week we take flight with Pazu, Sheeta, and a gang of pirates with some seriously questionable motives to find the mythical land in the clouds where cool robots take care of birds (and shoot lasers). It's the first true Ghibli film, and, man, does it set the bar pretty high. Also... what the hell is going on with the English dub of this film? Next week, it's our very first Takahata film, GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES. “The Killing Cell” is an awesome found footage film that's been tearing up the festival circuit with awards and nominations! Writer/director/producer and actor Karsen Schovajsa and his crew pulled together a nostalgic horror flick that captures the same eerie energy as “Hell House LLC” and “Grave Encounters.” I was lucky enough to check out a screener, absolutely loved it, and had to bring Karsen onto the podcast to talk all about the making of this soon-to-be cult hit! Make sure to follow TheKillingCellMovie, DeadRenegadeFilms, ScreenSanctity (James Bessey, co-director)and Karsen_Thomas3 for updates on the film. ***This podcast contains light spoilers*** If you miss the era of grimy 2000's horror movies with practical effects, real locations, and wild behind-the-scenes stories, you should check out Passenger. Watching it felt like stumbling onto a lost horror flick from 20 years ago. Then while the credits were rolling, I spotted a familiar name — my old friend Coalin Smith as the 2nd AD. Naturally, I texted him immediately and asked if he wanted to come on the podcast to talk about what it was actually like making it … and thankfully, he said yes. So after my review, stick around for stories from behind the camera. Honestly, the behind-the-scenes stories might be just as entertaining as a movie itself. In this episode of ClassHorrorCast, I'm joined by Steve Barton! One of the true pioneers of modern online horror media and co-founder of Dread Central. We dive deep into Steve's early beginnings as a horror fan, his days posting on the legendary Fangoria message boards, and the completely random encounter with Tony Timpone that ultimately changed the course of his life forever. From there, Steve takes us through the creation of Dread Central and the challenges, sacrifices, and triumphs that came with building one of the most important horror outlets in internet history during a time when online horror journalism was still the wild west.Throughout the conversation, Steve reflects on the relationships he built with legendary figures including George A. Romero and Sid Haig, sharing incredible stories from decades spent inside the horror industry and convention scene. We also discuss Steve's pivotal involvement in the rise of Terrifier and the Art the Clown phenomenon, his role in helping bring attention to the franchise, and the difficult fallout that eventually led to his firing from the production. It's an honest and deeply personal discussion about passion, loyalty, success, disappointment, and the realities of working within the entertainment industry. The episode also explores Steve's raw and emotional autobiography, which serves as a brutally honest reflection on following a dream, navigating personal struggles, and dedicating your life to horror culture. We wrap things up by discussing his current projects, consulting work, writing, and what the future holds next. This is a fascinating conversation with somebody who helped shape modern horror fandom in the age of the internet and a must-listen for horror fans, filmmakers, collectors, and anyone who grew up living on horror message boards and websites during the early online era.For more of my content - CLICK HEREBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/class-horror-cast-horror-movie-podcast--4295531/support.

Robert Duvall wrote it, directed it, and delivered his career-best performance in it. The Apostle is a $5 million Southern Gothic character study about a charismatic Pentecostal preacher who murders a man with a baseball bat at his own children's Little League game, flees to small-town Louisiana, and builds an entirely new congregation from scratch. He is a wife-beater, a womanizer, a killer, and a true believer. There is no rug pull. In this episode, I sit down with director Brandon Christensen to talk about his latest film Bodycam, a unique found-footage horror told entirely through the perspective of police bodycams. We get into the idea behind it, the challenges of working within that format, and what makes it such an effective way to tell a story. From there, the conversation opens up into a deeper look at Brandon's love for film as an art form - from the movies and games that shaped him, to the drive to create and tell stories through cinema. We also get into something a lot of horror fans feel but don't always talk about, how movies feel different now. The nostalgia of the 80s and 90s, the experience of discovering films back then, and the slow loss (and recent resurgence) of physical media and collecting as part of the culture.Of course, we dive into horror itself and why the genre continues to connect so strongly with audiences, and how it's finally getting the recognition it deserves, both at the box office and on the awards stage. This is a laid-back, honest conversation about horror, nostalgia, and what keeps us coming back to movies in the first place.Check out more of my content here - HEREBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/class-horror-cast-horror-movie-podcast--4295531/support.

Finally, an excuse for Vincent Cassel to breakdance through lasers! Brad Pitt is eating his way through Europe this week in the weirdest heist movie imaginable. It's the (unfairly maligned) sequel that probably should have been called Rusty's Twelve, because it's all about Danny Ocean's weird, mysterious counterpart who may or may not have fallen in love with a Europol agent… Next week, we finish the trifecta with OCEAN'S THIRTEEN (2007)! MonteCristo and DoA celebrate the 35th anniversary of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze: the 1991 Golden Harvest sequel that traded the original film's dark, gritty tone for full-on cartoon commitment, and made itself a cultural artifact in the process. DoA has watched this movie so many times he has it memorized. He's not even a little bit ashamed about it. In this episode, we sit down with director, producer, and author Craig Singer for a deep dive into a career that spans filmmaking, studio leadership, and the business side of Hollywood.Craig takes us back to his early days in the industry and the path that led him to creating films like Dark Ride, Perkins' 14, and 6:45.
