Our favorite methodical perfectionist filmmaker is back in the director's chair with a fine return to murdering form in The Killer - David Fincher's latest film about an efficiency-obsessed assassin grappling with the consequences of a botched job. We talk style, substance, Ross and Reznor, and of course where this lies in our (revisited and revised) Fincher film ranking. PLUS - we chat with film festival organizers Philbert Dy and Ed Lejano about this year's much-awaited QCinema: what to watch, where to watch, and how Quark will most likely be DJing in every festival event. Dr. Tim and Nino Fincher talk about their lives and medical service living in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. At the time this show originally aired, Dr. Fincher was the CEO of Kanad Hospital in Al Ain, a hospital started by Christian missionaries in 1960. The concern of high infant and maternal mortality rate along with other endemic diseases like tuberculosis and malaria was causing a declining population and created a desperate need of quality healthcare. The Finchers discuss the hospitality shared among their Muslim neighbors while engaging them with stories of Jesus' love and kindness towards people, especially the character of His nature where His actions matched His words. This show originally aired on July 13, 2021.
We often tell our kids that God speaks to a rare few in the Bible, yet people expect God to talk to them today. Today the Finchers share some lessons from Jonah, the prophet God spoke to. Jonah didn't like what he said. But why? Let's follow along with Jonah, his running, his reluctance, his visit to an unlikely group. A judgmental man who didn't want to be judgmental for fear of the outcome. His worst fears come true. _________ Get your Stories of Jesus for the Modern Family at dalefincher.com. The Finchers take questions from their audience starting off with this one about the differences between expectations and rules and laws. Hang onto your seats as Dale and Jonalyn tease apart these ideas and show how many good-sounding laws are breaking the backs of good people. The question from a listener we cover in this episode: “Is making a rule or law that is morally good ever wrong? Is there a distinction when having expectations, rules and laws in different spaces? i.e. between family or community groups, such as schools or clubs or neighborhoods and larger communities such as countries? And then of course, God.” Have your own question? Send it to hello@dalefincher.com. Actor, comedian, writer, director... entertainer Mark Teich Show notes: https://www.markgraban.com/mistake28 Joining me for Episode #28 is Mark Teich, an actor, comedian, writer, and director. Mark and I were high school classmates, both graduating from Livonia (MI) Churchill High School in 1991. I played drums in the pit orchestra for at least four musicals that Mark acted, sang, and danced in (he later earned BFA degrees in all three disciplines). We catch up about high school days a bit in the episode, if you'll forgive us. Mark honed his improv skills in Chicago and New York performing and writing in famed troupes such as The Second City and the Upright Citizens Brigade. He also enjoyed a highly successful comedy career culminating in four certified gold CD's, a certified gold DVD, two Comedy Central Presents specials, five worldwide tours… He performed at a sold-out Carnegie Hall with comedy partner Stephen Lynch. He has starred in four Disney cable shows… has been seen on shows like "Monk" and "New Girl," and the movie "Leatherheads." I can't tell you how many times I've been watching, say, a football game on TV… and there's Mark Teich in a commercial. He's been in commercials for more than 80 companies including Bacardi, Dell, Subway, Little Caesars, IHOP, Fidelity Investments, and TempurPedic… channeled MC Hammer in a Hallmark commercial that was named “World's Best Commercial.” He is currently starring as “Uncle Vin” in an online series called The Finchers, Presented by Viewsonic. Today, Mark shares his "favorite mistake" which involves following others instead of charting his own path for his career. We also talk about actors auditioning for jobs and parallels to those of us who are "auditioning" in terms of sales presentations or other competitive settings. I think you'll enjoy the conversation, as I did. This was a lot of fun and I appreciate Mark making the mistake of joining me for a really fun episode to end the year with. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/favorite-mistake/support
Paul Thomas Anderson ranks first amongst his likely peers, the Finchers and Nolans of the directing world but this detective yarn written by the legendary Thomas Pynchon (author of the only book I quit on) really threw me on first viewing. Without a satisfying plot, a story like this should be sunk but it's actually closer to the existentially gumshoe classic, The Long Goodbye. On second viewing I loved it, which made it the only film I've posted a correction review about.
Brent and Adam welcome back Brian Menard to talk Finchers acclaimed 2010 hit ‘The Social Network’! The three get into the prescient and timely nature of the story of Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg, the clever and smart script by Aaron Sorkin, and a few tangents about middle school clothing, transformative musical experiences and social networks […] The post The Social Network appeared first on Sticker Fridge Studios.

The fourth part in a series about the films of David Fincher and Paul Verhoeven. Jessa invites writer, Tech StartUp employee, and Harvard Alum Austin Grossman onto the show to discuss Finchers film about the bad men of tech, The Social Network, all the new forms of misogyny, and why Mark Zuckerberg is an asshole. You are probably going to be a very successful computer person. But you're going to go through life thinking that girls don't like you because you're a nerd. And I want you to know, from the bottom of my heart, that that won't be true. It'll be because you're an asshole.SUBSCRIBE to the #PublicIntellectual #Patreon page to access bonus content, merch, and more:https://www.patreon.com/publicintellectualPLEASE SUBSCRIBE AND RATE US on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Stitcher, or wherever you get your podcasts.
