This episode explores Josefina's experience at a 10-day Vipassana meditation retreat, an intensive silent meditation practice rooted in the original teachings of Gautama Buddha.✧ Retreat Overview and PreparationWhat is Vipassana meditation? Josefina immersed herself in 10 days of “Noble Silence”, no talking, eye contact, or gestures, to fully turn inward and observe sensations, cravings, and aversions. Her retreat took place in Joshua Tree at 29 Palms, booked through Dhamma.org. She attended with her fiancé and learned that proactive communication (even when waitlisted) can help secure a spot. Once committed, she fully immersed herself, letting go of other practices like yoga, breathwork, journaling and reading to discover a deeper connection to her inner nature.✧ Her Experience and InsightsThe beginning wasn't all peaceful and blissful; it was irritating. Small things, like her assigned seat or interactions with others, triggered her. Instead of reacting, she used these moments as opportunities to observe her internal patterns of judgment and aversion. Managing the Process: Josefina emphasized the importance of staying light with diet and choosing self-care, such as prioritizing sleep, over strict, perfect adherence to the schedule.Reflecting on Relationship: The retreat experience allowed Josefina and her fiancé to deepen their connection through a shared, quiet awareness, leading to a profound reunion at the end of the retreat. She also embraced flexibility, prioritizing rest and self-care rather than rigidly following every aspect of the schedule. Listen to her personal story, insights, challenges, and revelations in this episode. ✧ BreakthroughsAs the days progressed, deeper patterns surfaced. She noticed a tendency to cling, especially to pleasant sensations and her fiancé's attention. When that attention wasn't present, it triggered deeper feelings of rejection. By day seven, this intensified into what she described as a “psychosomatic storm” of rage, linked not just to the present, but to unresolved childhood experiences. Instead of resisting, she stayed present with the physical sensations. Through observation, she reached a state of stillness and realized that the agitation itself, not external situations, was the root of her anger. .✧ 10-day Silent Vipassana retreat:Go to the website - https://www.dhamma.org/en-US✧ Connect with Josefina:Follow on Instagram: @Josefinabashout Apply for your free Pleasure blueprint session with Josefina https://lp.josefinabashout.com/booking

Gautama Buddha was a philosopher, meditator, spiritual teacher, and religious leader who is credited as the founder of Buddhism. The Buddha didn't see wealth as a sin; in fact he saw it as a "skilful means" to protect your family, support your community, and find a deeper spiritual freedom. It is recorded that Buddha spent much of his time advising successful merchants, financiers, and kings on how to grow their empires. He understood that getting rich is easy, staying rich,  and staying happy - requires a specific kind of internal and external discipline which he called "Right Wealth," a way of living where your bank account grows without losing their souls. In this video, we are going to explore how to earn money ethically, from the philosophy of Buddha. So with that in mind, here are 5 ways to how to get rich ethically from Gautama Buddha -01. Practice Right Livelihood02. Be competent and resourceful03. Implement the 1:2:1 Wealth Management Formula04. Have The Four Kinds of Happiness05. After six years of arduous yogic training, he abandoned the way of self-mortification and instead sat in mindful meditation beneath a bodhi tree. On the full moon of May, with the rising of the morning star, Siddhartha Gautama became the Buddha, the awakened one. The Buddha wandered the plains of northeastern India for 45 years more, teaching the path or Dharma he had realized in that moment. Around him developed a community of people, drawn from every tribe and caste, devoted to practicing this path. Nowadays, he is worshiped by most Buddhist schools as the enlightened one who has escaped the cycle of birth and rebirth, transcending Karma. Their main teachings focus on their insight into duhkha meaning “suffering” and into Nirvana, which means the end of suffering.

Anatta which means that the self is always changing After the Buddha gained enlightenment, he traveled to Sarnath in the present-day district of Varanasi, where he met with five monks, he previously practiced with and gave his first sermon, the four noble truths. These four Noble Truths are the foundational tenets of Buddhism, which spark awareness of suffering as the nature of existence, its cause, and how to live without it. In this video we are going to talk about dukha, the second mark of existence, to better understand the suffering that we all go through and how we can use these 4 noble truths to deal with suffering in our modern day life. Annica which means that life is in a constant flux, we have already made a video on this, the link for this is in the description. 02. Dukkha which means that life is painful and causes suffering, and 03. Anatta which means that the self is always changing According to Buddhism, our "self" is made up of five things, which they call "The Five Aggregates of clinging." These are:  01. Our physical body, our form,  02. How we feel about things, our feelings,  03. How we see and understand the world, our perception,  04. Our consciousness, which is our awareness, and  05. Our thoughts and emotions, our mental formations.  But none of these things on their own represent our true, unchanging self because they all change over time. So, "anattā" doesn't mean "no self" but rather "no permanent self." It reminds us that nothing in life stays the same forever, including ourselves. Understanding this concept of "non-self" can help us let go of things and move on in life. It can make us feel free and independent.  So here are six ways that you can use the idea of "non-self" to help you move on in life from the wisdom of buddha -  01. Live In The Present 02. What happens when you sit in complete silence for 10 days—no talking, no technology, no eye contact, no distractions? In this episode, I take you inside my Vipassana meditation retreat, where I spent over 100 hours in silence and came face-to-face with my mind in ways I never expected. From nearly having a panic attack on Day 4, to watching a cobra almost kill my neighbor, to a tiny fly teaching me a profound lesson on suffering—this experience rewired my brain, changed how I see technology, and redefined what it means to be human in the modern world. What Is Vipassana Meditation? Vipassana, which means “insight” or “clear-seeing,” is one of the oldest meditation techniques in the world. Rooted in the teachings of Gautama Buddha, it's designed to cultivate awareness, equanimity, and liberation from suffering. During the retreat, I followed the traditional Vipassana rules, including: Noble Silence – No speaking, no eye contact, no gestures. No technology – No phones, books, or journaling. No intoxicants or distractions – Just meditation, walking, and sitting. Complete surrender to the schedule – Wake-up bells at 4 AM, over 10 hours of meditation per day. But what I thought would be a peaceful experience turned into one of the hardest things I've ever done. This episode is an invitation to slow down, unplug, and reconnect with yourself in ways you never imagined. Would you ever try Vipassana? Listen now and decide for yourself.

A reading of excerpts taken from Chapter 1 of The Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra - translated by Suzuki and Goddard. The Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra was first translated into Chinese in the 5th century and has been the subject of many treatises and commentaries. It is a distinctive and influential philosophical discourse in the Mahayana Buddhist tradition. The sutra recounts a teaching primarily between Gautama Buddha and a bodhisattva named Mahāmati ("Great Wisdom"). The sūtra is set in mythical Laṅkā, ruled by Rāvaṇa, the king of the rākṣasas. The Laṅkāvatāra discusses numerous Mahayana topics, such as Yogācāra philosophy of mind-only (cittamātra) and the three natures, the ālayavijñāna (store-house consciousness), the inner "disposition" (gotra), the buddha-nature, the luminous mind (prabhāsvaracitta), emptiness (śūnyatā) and vegetarianism. It is also notably an important sūtra in Zen Buddhism, as it discusses the key issue of "sudden enlightenment".

A reading for meditation of the Upajjhaṭṭhana Sutta  (AN 5:57) ~ Subjects for Contemplation - Translated by Bhikkhu Bodhi. The Upajjhatthana Sutta ("Subjects for Contemplation") focuses on the five remembrances, or five facts, regarding life's fragility and our true inheritance. The discourse advises that these facts are to be reflected upon often by all. Contemplation of these facts leads to the abandonment of destructive attachments and actions and to the cultivation of factors necessary for Awakening. The first three remembrances are the very insights that led Gautama Buddha to renounce his royal household status and become an ascetic after experiencing strong feelings of spiritual urgency (saṃvega).

Vishvapani traces his own relationship to the Buddha, from early family connections arising out of the turmoil of war to his experience of writing the book itself. In doing so he explores the tricky work of trying to engage with the imagination constrained and disciplined by the historical evidence. What emerges from his work with the Pali texts is a portrait of the Buddha and his world where it's impossible to miss the vital sense of a man questing for a coherent vision of reality. Roger leads Hine and Buckley through a quest which is thousands of years and many life cycles old as they discuss his life within the tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and what it actually teaches: was the Buddha a real person? Is life just sorrow and suffering? What is the Tao?... and he divulges some of the weirder, reality-defying experiences he has had on his travels including mind reading, a monk's arm stretching to six feet long and a lama summoning a parliament of owls as a spiritual escort to Edinburgh Airport... The Anattalakkhaṇa Sutta (Pali) or Anātmalakṣaṇa Sūtra (Sanskrit), is traditionally recorded as the second discourse delivered by Gautama Buddha. The title translates to the "Not-Self Characteristic Discourse", but is also known as the Pañcavaggiya Sutta (Pali) or Pañcavargīya Sūtra (Skt.), meaning the "Group of Five" Discourse. In this discourse, the Buddha analyzes the constituents of a person's body and mind (khandha) and demonstrates that they are each impermanent (anicca), subject to suffering (dukkha) and thus unfit for identification with a "self" (attan). Translated from the Pali by Thanissaro Bhikkhu

If you enjoy this conversation, come explore the theme online on our Home Retreat with Vidyamala and Vishvapani! Join Entering the Mandala: Mindfulness and Imagination, September 1-7 “Imagine an enormous subterranean chamber all lit up from within. We are living in a tiny chamber next to – indeed, part of – the larger one. We can see nothing at all of what's going on in the large chamber. In fact, we have no idea that the large chamber is even there.” Sangharakshita This week we're opening portals to awareness and the wonders that can arise when we really start to pay attention to everything that's going on in the world around us. What would it be like to experience yourself without restrictive concepts? What dimensions might open up in your life as you engage with myths and symbols? Awareness, or mindfulness, is an essential foundation for all spiritual growth. And through knowing experience directly we can transform difficulties and become happier, calmer and more fulfilled. But awareness offers much more: it also provides a doorway to other dimensions in the large chamber of our being. Awareness of the body, heart and mind can blossom into awareness of boundlessness, love and mystery, as Buddhist teachers have taught down the millennia. Imagination is a key to this opening. When our minds are clear and we're alive to what's within us and around us, our imaginations wake up to new possibilities. Kusaladevi joins Vidyamala and Vishvapani in a conversation exploring the theme of their upcoming Home Retreat, Entering the Mandala: Mindfulness and Imagination. This Home Retreat is an opportunity to live for a week with mindfulness, kindness, poetry and creativity, even in the midst of our daily lives. An exploration of mindfulness and imagination through talks, meditation, creative activities, discussion and shared ritual, particularly focused on the richly evocative symbol of the mandala. Listen in while Coach KA shares on his experience towards spiritual enlightenment from religion to self-discovery of the Kingdom of God within.
