Novelist, memoirist and biographer Edmund White joins co-hosts Whitney Terrell and V.V. Ganeshananthan to talk about his recent book, The Loves of My Life: A Sex Memoir. White talks about the changes he has witnessed the LGBTQ+ community go through over the years and the hostility the transgender population faces under the Trump-Vance regime. He discusses a general concern older members of the community have about losing Social Security and health coverage should gay marriage become Trump's next target, as well as this administration's attempt to erase queer language from governmental archives. White previews his forthcoming novel about Louis XIV's gay brother titled Monsieur and reads from The Loves of My Life. It's the third episode! We've made it to Baseball strike levels! In this episode we gain a segment (voice actors) and Manny attempts to birth a new segment into life with his very own isekai corner. How many segments can a podcast have? Never enough, I say. I also get the name wrong in the episode and get publicly owned by Manny. Then we talk about the third episodes of Macross and Robotech!Standing Ovation: 3:33-10:20Stand Picture: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/794807197866393613/1146462736839090206/image.pngStand Gif: https://static.jojowiki.com/images/2/2e/latest/20191015215837/The_Hand_swipe.gifAlso at some point I mention a Boys Love mangaka. Time comes for all of us. Well, most of us. We're not sure about Kris. This week, we're out of listener questions and our home lives are… steady? What's another word for steady? Boring? Uneventful? Regardless, no questions and no personal updates means this episode is a little shorter than usual. Kris talks about the difficulties of watching Euphoria as an adult. Tara suffers alone in the desert of RuPaul's Drag Race as she's dying for All Stars 8 to begin. Official Recommendations From Kris: Anything's Possible This week, Kris recommends the Billy Porter-directed film, Anything's Possible (2022). It's billed as a Gen-Z, coming-of-age movie about a confident trans girl and the boy who decides to make his move in the last year of high school. From Tara: My Brother's Husband by Gengoroh Tagame My Brother's Husband by Gengoroh Tagame is a manga series about a single dad and his daughter in Tokyo, who are visited by the husband of the father's recently deceased twin brother. It explores casual homophobia as a cultural norm in Japan and shows a different, more connected sense of what family can be when we challenge the idea of "should". On this episode of Manga Mavericks, Colton & Lum discuss Gengoroh Tagame's Our Colors with translator of the book, Anne Ishii! Our Colors is Tagame's newest all ages comic about a high schooler named Sora Itoda, who struggles with being himself around most of his family and friends because he hasn't worked up the courage to come out yet. That is, until he meets, Mr. Amamiya, the owner of a hidden local café and the first real gay person Sora becomes friends with who inspires him little by little to start living as his true self (but little does Sora know, he may end up doing the same for Mr. Amamiya as well). The Mavericks discuss with Anne about her time translating the series, as well as why it may be even better then Tagame's previous all ages work, My Brother's Husband! Enjoy! On this episode of Manga Mavericks, we're releasing a compilation of our thoughts over the years on Gengoroh Tagame's My Brother's Husband! A story about a single father who has to face his internalized prejudices in order to accept certain members of his family for who they are. The first discussion comes from Episode 35 of the podcast when we went over our first impressions of the series with Pantheon's release of the first volume back in 2017, with the second discussion being the bonus podcast we released on our Patreon covering the rest of the series three years later in 2020! Our good friend, Maxy Barnard of Friendship Effort Victory and Shonen Flop joined us for both podcasts! We three, along with the podcast, may have changed a lot in the past five years altogether, but our love for My Brother's Husband certainly has not! Join us next week as we review Gengoroh Tagame's Our Colors with special guest and translator of the series, Anne Ishi!! A journey through the final questions of homosexuality and the elusive, stolen quality of something called “queerness,” starring TELEPATHY PARTY, his roommate MUSCLE MASTER EL LOBO and also Zach's friend SAKI. First: YAOI MANGA, what is referred to as boys love, women diffusing their feelings toward the horror of sexual penetration into thin limbed beautiful boys, avatars, idols of safety. Next: blowing it up and activating it in the perverted feces spiral of filth, rape and excess porn: GENGOROH TAGAME. And as the gyre fails to hold, the death of a star, the last chance for queerness, in finality: the music of SOPHIE. Rejecting the post nut clarity of death. Looking up where gay men are meeting to satisfy mysterious curiosities. “The Bitch of the Jungle.” Loss, the capacity for ecstasy, joy as void, voices of gay men ready to meet right now, America's Next [last?] Based Trans Girl…. 私は男になれたなら/私は女を 捨てないわ。 Follow Telepathy Party on Twitter: twitter.com/telepathy_party And the I'M SO POPULAR podcast: twitter.com/imsopopularpod impopular.me (S2.E21)

Lukujonossa luemme läpi Edo-kaudelle sijoittuvan BL-sarjan Yuki and Matsu sekä yuripokkarin I Married My Best Friend to Shut My Parents Up. --- Kommentoi | Twitter | Instagram --- - Fujoshiluola-blogi - Maija Twitterissä - Fujoshiluola: 10+1 mieleenpainuvaa BL-sarjaa 2010-luvulta - Maijan artikkeli BL-mangan uudesta aallosta Anime-lehdessä 3/2016 (kuva) - Desucon Frostbite 2016: Lyhyt katsaus BL-mangan nykyhetkeen (YouTube) 04:43 – KUULIJAKOMMENTTEJA: D.GRAY-MAN - Jakso 36, jossa puhuimme D.Gray-manista - Muusin animeblogi: D.Gray-man - Jakso 22, jossa puhuimme siitä miten mangaa arvostellaan 19:23 – PINK HEART JAM -MANGA KESKEYTETTIIN YHDEN LUVUN JÄLKEEN SKANLAATIOIDEN VUOKSI - ANN: Shikke Cancels Pink Heart Jam Manga's 2nd Chapter Due to Unauthorized Translations - Mellow Kiss -lehden englanninkielinen tiedote asiasta 32:51 – ENGLANNINKIELINEN NUORTENKIRJAILIJA KOPIOI SEVEN DAYS -MANGAN ALKUASETELMAN - Date Me, Bryson Keller - Seven Days - Maijan arvostelu Seven Daysista Anime-lehden numerossa 7/2011 (kuva) - Keskustelua aiheesta - Ajattelutapa “me sivistyneet länsimaiset teemme japanilaisten jutut niitä paremmin“ on yleinen myös videopelialalla - Seven Daysin kaksiosainen live-elokuvasovitus 41:53 – VUODEN 2020 KONO BL GA YABAI -LISTAUS - ANN: Kono BL ga Yabai! -listaus vuodelle 2020 - Maijan Twitter-kommenttiketju listauksesta - 1: Here and There and Us (Thanat, Futekiya) - 2: Blue Morning (Shoko Hidaka, SuBLime) - 3: One Room Angel (Harada, Futekiya) - 4: Twittering Birds Never Fly (Kou Yoneda, DMP) - 5: Simplified Pervert Romance (Neg Sekihara & Nanako Semori, Futekiya) - 6: Sarazanmai: Reo and Mabu (Kunihiko Ikuhara & Misaki Saitoo, Seven Seas) - 7: Given (Natsuki Kizu, SuBLime) - 8: Love Nest (Yuu Minazuki) - 9: Golden Sparkle (Minta Suzumaru, Futekiya) - 10: Therapy Game (Meguru Hinohara, SuBLime) 51:45 – VUODEN 2020 CHIL CHIL BL AWARDS -LISTAUKSET - ANN: Chil Chil BL Awards -listaukset vuodelle 2020 - Twitter-ketju ehdokkaista Best Comic: - 1: One Room Angel (Harada, Futekiya) - 2: I Didn't Mean to Fall in Love (Minta Suzumaru, Futekiya) - 3: Birds of Shangri-La (Ranmaru Zariya, SuBLime) - 4: Love Nest 2 (Yuu Minazuki) - 5: Happy Kuso Life (Harada) - 6: Someday I'll Fall for You (Tomo Kurahashi, Renta) - 7: By My Side (Kazuki Natsume) Best Series: - 1: Twittering Birds Never Fly (Kou Yoneda, DMP) - 2: Given (Natsuki Kizu, SuBLime) - 3: Blue Sky Complex (Kei Ichikawa) - 4: Hadakeru Kaibutsu (Ogeretsu Tanaka) - 5: Cupid ni Rakurai (Minta Suzumaru) - 6: Dakaichi: I'm Being Harassed by the Sexiest Man of the Year (Hashigo Sakurabi) - 7: Koisuru Intelligence (Michi Tange) 01:02:39 – MEIDÄN SUHTEEMME BL:ÄÄN JA YURIIN - Comic Yuri Hime, Ichijinshan mangalehti - Milk Morinagan sarja Girl Friends 01:07:49 – MIKÄ ON BL:N MÄÄRITELMÄ?
It's the G1 Climax, which means I'm watching a lot of wrestling and, relevant to this episode, seeing a lot of buff dudes that are definitely into each other. Go Sanada and ZSJ. This episode, we're talking about Hiromi Takashima's Kase-san published by Seven Seas and Gengoroh Tagame's My Brother's Husband published by Pantheon. The song you heard at the top of the episode is "Asu e no Tobira" by Minami Takahashi and Ayane Sakura from the Kase-san anime. As always, you can find me on Twitter @ImpassionateK, and my co-hosts Helen (@WanderinDreamr) and Apryll (@manjiorin) on Twitter at those places in the parenthesis. You can find both of their writing at The Organization of Anti-Social Geniuses, more of Helen's writing at Narrative Investigations, and my writing at the Fandom Post. Listen Show notes: 1:01 - We talk about Kase-san! 14:35 - We talk about My Brother's Husband! Next time is That Blue Sky Feeling and Our Dreams at Dusk!

Anne Ishii is fluent in French. Anne and Kai discover they share a rare background story (8:23), and talk about her experience growing up as an Asian American with that complex background (9:53), and how she found gay erotic manga and what drew her to Gengoroh Tagame’s work in particular (48:56). They also discuss the history of the Asian Arts Initiative (58:30) and the directions she wants to take the organization (1:05:08).
Guest Graham Kolbeins (co-editor, "Massive: Gay Erotic Manga and the Men Who Make It") joins the Super Gays for a discussion of Gengoroh Tagame's "My Brother's Husband." Come with us on a journey through the queer manga of Japan, from Bara to Shonen-ai! Produced by James Kelly.
Baseball season is over, the Dodgers suffered a heartbreaking “gentleman’s sweep” (sort of, but not really, an 18-inning marathon can basically be won by anyone on luck. more than usual!), and the offseason has already started. I can’t wait for the winter meetings. Rick Hahn, please do something. This episode, we’re talking about Hajime Segawa’s Tokyo ESP published by Vertical Comics and Gengoroh Tagame’s My Brother’s Husband published by Pantheon Books. BIG NEWS! Because our Kenta Shinohara podcasts were delayed we didn’t get around to covering a lot of important news from the past couple months. To remedy that, we decided to record a big news-focused podcast to get everyone up to speed! …This was a big bad idea. We accumulated nearly twelve pages worth of news, tallying to over one hundred stories in total! To make matters worse, we began recording late at night after I was already exhausted from drawing for nearly 20 hours that day. Thanks to a spotty internet connection, we ended up needing two recording sessions and over four hours of rough audio to cover everything we wanted to. Needless to say, recording this was a tiring process. You can definitely hear the exhaustion in my voice by the end of this podcast, alongside Colton’s groans of impatience. Though frankly, listening back to this episode I did most of the talking, so it’s kinda funny that Colton was more vocally upset by the experience. ^^, Regardless of how frustrating the process was, this was a necessary podcast to make. Discussing manga news is the reason this show originally came into being, and doing a purely news-focused episode brings us nostalgically back to the roots of our early episodes. Did we go a little overboard in the mountain of content we attempted to surmount? Perhaps. But hopefully you’ll find this podcast as valuable as we found these stories important to discuss. Angela and Kelly take a deep dive into comics minutiae this week with a discussion about the nitty gritty of page layouts. Angela can't understand why every panel in manga doesn't have detailed backgrounds. Kelly can't understand why Angela doesn't appreciate negative space. Kelly thinks comics move too fast. Angela worries about getting enough action for her $3.99. Also, a discussion of Rachel Thorn's fascinating thread on traffic laws in manga panelling and whether comics need similar guidelines or are better off without them. Time Codes: 00:00:26 - Introduction 00:03:19 - Listener mail! 00:09:41 - Happiness 00:48:25 - My Brother's Husband 01:15:40 - Wrap up 01:16:43 - Contact us On the April manga episode, Shea and Derek discuss two very different series. They begin with Shuzo Oshimi's Happiness, the fourth volume of which has just been released by Kodansha Comics. This is a vampiric narrative that takes place in the suburbs and centers on the relationships among high school students. But don't make the mistake of thinking that this is Twilight-tinged fantasy. Oshimi's characterization is sophisticated and, in places, unpredictable, and his art style captures the interiority of his key marginalized figures. Of particular interest is Yuuki, a bully who befriends the narrative's protagonist, Okazaki, and how both characters handle their newfound vampirism once each has turned. The guys appreciate where this story is going, and Shea, in particular, is impatient in having to wait for the next few volumes. Next, Derek and Shea check out the first volume of Gengoroh Tagame's My Brother's Husband. This book is notable for a couple of reasons. For one, it is the first work of manga that Pantheon Books, a leader in major trade graphic-novel publishing, has ever released. And second, this is an all-age title by a mangaka known primarily for his gay BDSM erotic manga. It's the story of Yaichi and Kana, a single father and daughter, and their relationship with Mike, a gay Canadian who had married Yaichi's estranged brother. After Mike's husband dies, he honors his memory by getting to know his Japanese family. As the guys reveal, My Brother's Husband is a tale about relationships, coming to term with personal prejudices, and the strictures various cultures place on interpersonal behaviors.
Today's Guest: Tim Pilcher, editor, Erotic Comics: A Graphic History from Tijuana Bibles to Underground Comix Order 'Erotic Comics: A Graphic History from Tijuana Bibles to Underground Comix' edited by Tim Pilcher, available from Amazon.com by clicking the book cover above! Tim Pilcher has a dirty mind! That’s what some people think, no doubt. He did just publish the second edition Erotic Comics: A Graphic History and it is filled with cartoon images of men, women, aliens and even a cat dancer engaged in all manner of physical intimacies. (If you have sensitive ears or are under the age of 18, please stop here. You might be offended by some of the content of this interview.) Volume 2 picks up where Volume 1 left off and examines how the form has become an international publishing phenomenon by showcasing artwork that has inflamed desires, incensed censors, and caused controversy. Order 'Erotic Comics 2: A Graphic History from the Liberated '70s to the Internet' edited by Tim Pilcher, available from Amazon.com by clicking on the book cover above! TIM PILCHER podcast excerpt: "It's a natural progression of growing up for comics readers. Erotica is a fact of life. But anytime you put 'comics' and 'sex' together, people go, 'Oh!' Erotic comic is a genre, just as westerns, sci-fi or superheroes are. It hadn't really been written up; it's sort of a secret history." Fully illustrated with rare art by Howard Cruse, Gengoroh Tagame, Melinda Gebbie, Hunt Emerson, Howard Chaykin, Giovanna Casotto (whose work graces the cover), Tom of Finland, Milo Manara, Junko Mizuno, this book covers everything: the erotic comics explosion in America in the mid-’80s; the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender comics scene; UK and European erotic comic creators since the ’70s; and the Japanese hentai phenomenon.
