Gifts are often used to build relationships in business, whether with clients, customers, or employees. But what if we have been doing gifting all wrong? In today's episode of Magic in the Room, Chris and guest John Ruhlin discuss a new way to think about gifting. The bottom line is that gifts can be used to build long-lasting relationships, but not if you just put the company logo on a mug and send it to everyone. Instead, you should intentionally make every gift focused on the receiver and create a lasting memory they will associate with you.       John is the founder of GIFT·OLOGY and the author of Giftology: The Art and Science of Using Gifts to Cut Through the Noise, Increase Referrals, and Strengthen Client Retention.      Find John on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnruhlin/ or at giftologygroup.com.

“Nobody's soul is moved by swag.” So says longtime friendtor of the pod, John Ruhlin, founder of strategic gifting company Giftology. Since the day I met John and encountered his work in 2016, I have been inspired by his commitment to elevating the relationship game with generosity, “heart bombs,” and expressing genuine appreciation in the business world and beyond. John is long overdue for a free time appearance, and I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did! Today, we are happy to be speaking with the legendary John Ruhlin! John is the founder of Giftology, and he is full of energy and great ideas! In this episode, John tells his fascinating story and talks about how he created Giftology. He explains how he developed the understanding of giving personal gifts and shares his best marketing and sales referral tool. He also discusses why you should focus on your inner circle and why he wrote the book Giftology. We hope you enjoy listening to today's enlightening conversation with John Ruhlin! JOHN RUHLIN BIO:  John Ruhlin is the world's leading authority in maximizing customer loyalty through radical generosity. He is the founder and author of Gift·ology and has been featured in Fox News, Forbes, Fast Company, Inc, and the New York Times. While becoming the #1 performer out of 1.5 million sales reps for one of the world's most recognizable brands, John developed a system of using generosity to gain access to elite clients and generate thousands of referrals. He and his firm now help automate this process for individuals and organizations like UBS, Raymond James, DR Horton, Keller Williams, the Chicago Cubs, and Caesar's Palace. John and the Gift·ology team can help any individual turn their clients into their own personal sales force to drive exponential growth. John's story John grew up in a modest family on a farm in a small town in Ohio. He learned, early on, that if he wanted something, he had to work for it. John did very well at school and wanted to become a doctor or a chiropractor. But his life and plans changed after he started dating a girl whose father, Paul, was a generous rain-making attorney. Mentorship Paul showed up in unusual ways for his relationships. That inspired John to want to be just like him at sixty. John was interning with Cutco, selling knives to pay for med school. He was not good at selling, and after he pitched to Paul, Paul offered to help him hit his goals.  Relationships Paul taught John that everything boiled down to relationships. Paul explained that if you take care of the family in business, everything else takes care of itself. That struck a chord with John. He started to mimic Paul in his relationships and sent some expensive knives to some CEOs he wanted to meet with as gifts. After pitching the CEO of a large insurance company, John walked out with an order for 1,000 knife sets! Number 1 distributer Cutco has worked with about 2,000,000 sales reps over 70 years. John became their number one distributor in the entire global history of the company by using the idea of giftology!  Giftology Giftology is about building relationships. If you want referrals, deal flow, or employee retention, you need to inspire people to want to advocate on your behalf. The best marketing sales referral tool  John learned early on that if you go all-in and show something in your relationships, it will come back to you a hundred-fold. He found it one of the best marketing sales referral tools on the planet!  All over the world John now owns a consulting agency that teaches people how to do giftology. He also writes books and speaks about it all over the world.  The core of his business The core of John's business is teaching people how to love relationships thoughtfully and at scale, while moving people emotionally. What John discovered about gifts  John discovered that it does not help to send people a gift with your logo on it. It is better to send them something personal with their name on it.  A recipe for building relationships John noticed that there was a recipe for building relationships with giftology. For it to work, you have to follow the recipe to the letter because every tiny detail and every intention counts. We were designed to want to reciprocate and do nice things for people who do things for us with no strings attached. Kindness, generosity, and love Everyone wants to be appreciated, acknowledged, and loved. The companies crushing it all lead with kindness, generosity, and love. They care for their employees and clients and invest in them. The inner-circle John believes that the inner circle matters just as much as the person writing the checks because those people influence the decisions. A six-figure deal John closed a six-figure deal with a basketball team because he treated the inner circle the same as he treated the CEO.  Event planners John treats event planners like gold because they have gone out of their way at times to become sales reps for his brand.  Show up repetitively and consistently When you move from being passively loyal to being actively loyal and show up repetitively and consistently for a relationship because you want to, not because you have to, the relationship will flourish. John's book, Giftology John wrote the book to spread the idea of giftology to others. He also wanted to drive credibility, have a global impact, and be the first one in the leadership space to talk about using gratitude and generosity to grow relationships and revenue. He has sold 110,000 copies in the last six years, and it changed everything for him! Covid Covid has shifted the priorities of many, but humans still need to connect. So although Covid made John realize that he can have an impact from afar, he still enjoys appearing on a big stage once or twice a month, shaking hands with people, and signing books.   Connect with Eric On LinkedIn On Facebook On Instagram On Website   Connect with John Ruhlin On LinkedIn Books mentioned: Giftology: The Art and Science of Using Gifts to Cut Through the Noise, Increase Referrals, and Strengthen Client Retention, by John Ruhlin Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook, by Gary Vaynerchuk Save Your Asks: Evolve Your Networking Currencies. John Ruhlin is a speaker, author, and advisor. He is the author of Giftology: The Art and Science of Using Gifts to Cut Through the Noise, Increase Referrals, and Strengthen Retention. Today, he speaks about the concept of gifts and how there is a right and wrong way to give. Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation: It's not about the gift you give, but the human connection you build Sending unexpected gifts at unexpected times The return on relationships Why you need to focus on your warm market first Episode Highlights: Building Human Connection Through Giftology What most people forget whether they're a sales rep or a million-dollar business, or a billion-dollar company, is every business rises and falls on relationships. Whether that's relationships with clients, mentors, advisors, employees, and prospects, most people, however, are terrible at showing gratitude to even their spouse, let alone their top 100 clients or their top 500 employees or whatever. At the end of the day, nobody cares about gifts, but the results in the referrals and how you show up for people matter. The gifts are the delivery vehicle for this emotional connection. It's actually not about the thing that you've given, but it's the meaning, the story, the thoughtfulness. When you're more thoughtful and more creative with how you love on people, you can spend 1/10 the amount of money and get 100 times more impact. The problem with many people, however, is they're trying to buy their way with sponsorships and advertising, as well as Facebook ads and cool sexy events and models. But you need to understand the psychology of how to influence people and how to do it either in a thoughtful way with no strings attached. Most people give then they ask and ruin it. They actually damage relationships because they're not giving a gift but they're trying to manipulate. You need to show up for people and then show up again and then show up again. Then maybe after doing this for a year or two or three to people you already have a relationship with, you earn the right to ask for a referral. And so, don't give a gift and ask for a referral otherwise you would only turn that relationship into a transactional deal. The Return on Relationships When you show up for your wife, your husband, your client, or your employee, it's because you want to, and not because you had to – and all that changes everything. There's no other part of your business where you can get a better return on investment than a return on relationship. But many times, people don't understand this return on relationship. You should be inspiring all of your clients to be sales reps for you. And if you do that well, you get referrals without asking. It's not about the gift. It's about the results on the back end of loving people well. Why Start With Your Warm Market Start with the warm market because when you do, you're already taking that small fire that's already burning. Now, imagine drowning a bunch of wood with gas and there's no fire. And so, you just wasted all your resources. If you want to get somebody to be in your corner, start with a relationship first and then pour gasoline on fire that's already warm and burning. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/erikecabral/support

Resources Mentioned: http://www.johnruhlin.com (www.johnruhlin.com)  https://www.amazon.com/Giftology-Increase-Referrals-Strengthen-Retention/dp/1619614332 (Giftology: The Art and Science of Using Gifts to Cut Through the Noise, Increase Referrals, and Strengthen Retention)

Without the high-net-worth individuals who put money in our deals, we wouldn’t have a syndication business. And yet, most of us are terrible at showing our appreciation to the passive investors we work with. When a deal goes through, we send them a mug or hat with our logo on it and call it a day. But does that reflect what the relationship is actually worth to us? Is there a better way to do gifting? John Ruhlin is the Cofounder of Giftology Group, a strategic gifting consultancy that helps sales leaders, business owners and executives unlock loyalty and turn clients into raving fans. "A gift isn't about you. A gift, by its very nature, if you want it to move somebody's heart, better be about the other frickin’ person." - John Ruhlin Why you need to throw everything you think you know about gifting out the window. How thoughtful gestures can foster profitable, long-term relationships. Why you should stop sending merchandise as gifts. How John's elaborate proposal landed him in the ICU. John Ruhlin: Revolutionizing Gift-Giving John Ruhlin started out with a simple desire to make some extra cash to fund his way through medical school. He got himself a job as a Cutco Knives sales rep, and after a few short years achieved the highest sales numbers in the company's history — a record he holds to this day. John has since taken his secret to selling knives and turned it into one of the most successful relationship-building tools out there: Giftology. Through Giftology, John helps businesses to forge steadfast relationships with their stakeholders. He has shared his formula for top-tier gift-giving in his book “Giftology: The Art and Science of Using Gifts to Cut Through the Noise, Increase Referrals, and Strengthen Retention*.*” Planning: The Key to Great Gifting You wouldn't buy flowers from a gas station at the last minute for your mom ON Mother’s Day (hopefully), so why would you rush getting a gift for an important client? John explains why every gift requires forward-planning and lots of thought in order to make the biggest impact — and why gifts shouldn't be reserved only for the holiday season. ROR: Return on Relationships, Not Investments It's time to stop thinking about the short-term and how many leads your marketing campaigns bring in and start thinking about the long-term and how to foster your relationships. We discuss how Giftology can result in huge benefits year after year and why it isn't about one-off gifts. Key takeaways: Put your money where your mouth is and gift in a way that reflects your brand. Don't present yourself as a Fortune 500 company and send out coasters to "valued clients." The gifts aren't about you, so stop sending lazy presents that reflect YOUR interests. Take the time and effort to find something that the receiver will truly appreciate. We already have a lot of stuff, so tailor your gifts to the individual in a way that will make them meaningful and unique. One of the biggest mistakes real estate agents make is focusing on buying leads, while skipping over actually building relationships and cultivating fans.    Once we become clear on what our brands represent and the target audience we’re crafting content for, the next step is nurturing quality interactions to connect on a person-to-person level.    If we want people to know, like, trust and refer us, we need to have a mindset of giving and a system for reaching out that makes them feel valued.   What are some unique ways we can nurture deeper relationships with our databases? Today, we’re going to talk about powerful ways to connect with people, and how they make us memorable and referrable.    Three Things You’ll Learn In This Episode    - Top producers and successful real estate professionals are sending out personalized gifts and tokens of appreciation to the people in their databases. We have to mirror this in our own database marketing.    - Social media gives us a window into what people like and care about, and ideas for personalized gifts we can send them.    - If we don’t effectively market ourselves, we won’t stand out, create fans, get referrals, and ultimately, we won’t earn what we want.   Resources Mentioned    https://stickerapp.com/ - For custom stickers and labels    Giftology: The Art and Science of Using Gifts to Cut Through the Noise by John Ruhlin

How do you get access to the unreachable? How do you become unforgettable? That’s the focus of this episode of Capability Amplifier. 15 years ago, Mike Koenigs called a good friend who was buying three people $12,000 Rolex watches and thought he was crazy. "Why?" He asked! Keep reading or start listening... You know that amazing, warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you receive or give a gift? Did you know there’s a psychology and science behind gift-giving that could help you build incredibly strong business relationships, grow your business and make a ton of money? Today on the Capability Amplifier podcast, Mike's special guest is John Ruhlin, the author of “Giftology: The Art and Science of Using Gifts to Cut Through the Noise, Increase Referrals, and Strengthen Retention.” John says that gratitude isn't a “woo-woo thing,” it's an ROI driver because “nobody cares about gifts, but we all care about relationships.” John didn't grow up with a silver spoon in his mouth or in country clubs, in fact, it was the complete opposite. He’s a farm boy from Ohio who grew up milking goats and baling hay in a town of 417 people. Then his life completely changed because of a mentor. When John was in college he had a girlfriend who’s dad, Paul, was this rainmaking attorney in a small town. When you're poor, you notice when people are generous and Paul was radically generous with everybody, whether it was the assistant, the janitor, or the CEO. Paul would find deals on noodles and everybody at church the next Sunday would walk away with 200 cases of noodles and John would say to him, “that was $30,000 or $40,000! Are you nuts?” Paul would just smile. It wasn't tactical for him, it was just who he was. He exuded generosity and because of it, he owned oil wells, banks, real estate, and everybody came to him because he was the most liked, trusted, and top of mind person in the community. John was selling Cutco knives at the time and decided to pitch Paul the idea of giving away pocket knives to all of his high-end clients. Paul didn’t like the idea of pocket knives but instead told John he wanted to order a bunch of his $100 paring knives. John was confused. He didn’t understand why Paul wanted to give a bunch of grown men and CEOs of billion-dollar companies a kitchen tool! What Paul told him next changed his life forever. Paul said that after being in business for 35 years, he found that if you take care of the family in the business, everything else takes care of itself. It was at that point John had the epiphany that it wasn't about the silly knives. Paul understood that the knife was a delivery vehicle for an emotion. People loved and trusted Paul because he was always around even when he wasn't there because of gifts like this. So John started mimicking Paul’s ideas and pitching to CEO’s of multi-million dollar companies. But rather than say “hey, I want to pitch you knives,” (because he’d be hung on real quick) he would mail these guys $300 carving sets with a handwritten note that said, “carve out five minutes for me,” and he’d get the meeting every time. Inevitably when he’d walk into the board room for his meeting with guys in their 50’s and 60’s they’d be shocked at how young John was and they’d ask him, “Are you here to sell me knives?” John’s answer was always, “no, I'm here to help you and your thousand sales reps do exactly what I did to you and your top 10,000 relationships.” By the time he was a senior in college, (out of 1.5 million sales reps,) he became number one at Cutco by applying what he now calls the Giftology System. It's really about understanding the psychology of building relationships, inspiring them to refer you, open doors, be loyal, be engaged. All the stuff that we want in business with humans can be accomplished if we show our love and gratitude in a certain way. That's the core of Giftology that started 20 years ago by mimicking somebody who did it naturally.

Today on the show Jodi interviews Melanie Deziel, author of The Content Fuel Framework (2020). Here are some highlights from their conversation: Jodi and Melanie discussed the origin of her book. Melanie wanted to be able to share what she teaches on stage in a one-to-one format that’s accessible to anyone (i.e., not just those whose boss hires her to deliver a training or sends them to a conference).  Melanie described the writing and publishing process as a fun one with a big learning curve. The scale of a book is so different from what she (and most author-entrepreneurs) is used to writing, that when she was able to break it down into what felt familiar, it made a big difference. Thinking of chapters as articles made the word count seem less daunting. That long time line, coupled with no one seeing the manuscript for so long, was challenging for Melanie. Melanie noted that she had actually started another book before The Content Fuel Framework, but that during the writing process she realized that The Content Fuel Framework is the book her audience needs now/first. Because Melanie’s book release coincided with the coronavirus pandemic, most of her scheduled speaking and training engagements were canceled/moved to virtual events. Her plan is to package the book with workshops, allowing for bulk buying. Melanie encouraged aspiring author-entrepreneurs to consider their approach when starting the process. If you don’t break “I want to write a book” into steps, it can get overwhelming quickly. She also noted the importance of having people you trust to talk to about the process. Melanie shared that she recently read Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado Perez and Giftology:The Art and Science of Using Gifts to Cut Through the Noise, Increase Referrals, and Strengthen Client Retention (https://www.amazon.com/Giftology-Increase-Referrals-Strengthen-Retention-ebook/dp/B01FT16BPM/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=giftology&qid=1586439911&s=digital-text&sr=1-1) by John Ruhlin and is currently reading fiction, which is unusual for her: Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. We’ve all heard the saying that goes, “people will forget what you said, they will forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel…” As we enter the season of giving and gratitude here in the US, sending gifts to our family members, friends, and customers is a tradition. Giving a gift to someone can be an incredibly powerful act, for better or for worse. As you’ll discover through the amazing stories you’ll hear today, when done thoughtfully and with care, sending a gift to someone can open the door to new relationships and opportunities in a way that nothing else can. It can create a bond and a connection with someone that can last a lifetime, and that will never be forgotten. But when done incorrectly, it can have the complete opposite effect that you desire… It can actually cause the recipient to feel like another sheep in the herd, misunderstood, unappreciated, or even disrespected. And unfortunately, most businesses shoot themselves in the foot every holiday season with impersonal, and lazy gift-giving campaigns they send to their customers, when they would have been much better off, sending nothing at all. Well to help us understand the incredible powers and dangers that come with giving gifts, we’re joined by a gentleman who’s literally dedicated his life to this practice… John Ruhlin. The story of how John discovered the power of gifts is absolutely incredible, and the wisdom he’s gained along the way when it comes to building relationships using gifts is unbelievably valuable. Many of you will have your lives changed by this interview one way or another... Please share it with your co-workers, business partners, and family members because the gifts you give do create strong feelings with your recipients. You just want to make sure those are positive feelings of appreciation, love, and gratitude, instead of accidentally triggering the opposite. I love sitting around the fire pit and talking with you about leadership skills and leadership actions that I learned in the trust depleted places around the world, that work even better in your world. Sharing the skills of leadership, Rooftop Leadership, from life and death so that you can use them in life and business. Let’s take a moment to talk about the “soft skills”. I call them the “Lawrencian” skills. The same skills that T. E. Lawrence used to mobilize the Badu tribesmen to overthrow the city of Aqaba and the Ottoman Turks in World War I. This week we're talking about hospitality, but more specifically we're going into “Giftology”. John Ruhlin wrote this book called Giftology, and he coined the term, but he didn't coin the process. I will tell you that Special Forces, all the way back to T.E. Lawrence, have been using a form of Giftology, which is the giving of gifts to make connections and build relationships in high stakes moments, for decades, if not centuries. Let’s sit around the fire pit and break down the concept of, Giftology. I’ll see you on the Rooftop… Scott Join Our Rooftop Tribe! Ep. 101: Radical Generosity: How to Make Gratitude & Generosity Your Competitive Advantage | with John Ruhlin

Today our expert guest is John Ruhlin, the world's leading authority in maximizing customer loyalty through radical generosity, the founder of Giftology, and the author of Giftology: The Art and Science of Using Gifts to Cut Through the Noise, Increase Referrals, and Strengthen Retention.   John stumbled onto the idea that grew into Giftology while he was a salesman at Cutco. John asked his girlfriend's dad to buy pocket knives that he could give away to clients who love hunting and fishing, but he didn't want pocket knives – he wanted paring knives.   Why? John wondered, why would you give a kitchen tool to the CEO of a multi-million dollar company?   That's when John received a piece of advice that would change his life: If you take care of the family, in business, everything else takes care of itself; that's the key to referrals, access, deal flow, and retention.   As John started presenting this idea to others, he realized that no one was using gratitude, gifts, and generosity as their competitive advantage. So, after developing a system of using generosity to gain access to elite clients and generate thousands of referrals, John became the best seller in the history of Cutco, while he was still in college.   John and his firm now help automate this process for individuals and organizations like UBS, Raymond James, DR Horton, Keller Williams, the Chicago Cubs, and Caesar's Palace, teaching how anyone can turn their clients into a personal sales force that drives exponential growth.   In an increasingly digital world, we crave human-to-human experiences, we crave being treated like an individual, “we crave realness!” As human beings, we all want to be known, acknowledged, and appreciated.   And, although there is a lot of lip service given to the idea that relationships are the most important thing, in business and in our personal lives, not a lot of people are actually walking that talk. “Everyone says relationships are their most valuable assets. Well, show me what you invest your money in and show me your calendar. That determines what you prioritize.”   So, take a look into your own calendar and look at where most of your money is going – are you acting like you put a premium on relationships?   Whether you're already doing great or just realized you have some work to do, John has some great advice for scaling and improving your relationships through acknowledgements, appreciation, and personalization:   Invest as much as you can in relationships. At Giftology, they recommend reinvesting anywhere from 5% - 15% of your net profits. If you have, for example, $5,000 to invest, don't then try to invest it in 5,000 people by sending out calendars or other cheap, branded trinkets. Instead, take your top 20 relationships and invest $250, so that each of those people feels acknowledged and appreciated. Most people don't need more stuff, so focus on one best-in-class or world-class gift that is personalized and that the recipient will treasure. Personalization is a BIG deal. Don't forget the family! 80% of the gifting that John does includes the spouse, kids, pets, and/or inner circle because those people are usually neglected in business relationships. It's not about spending the most money – it's about making the people who you invest in raving fans. “If you want somebody who is actively loyal to you, you have to show them that you're different than anybody else, you have to inspire them to act on your behalf, and that doesn't happen on accident – that happens because of you loving on them so much that they can't help but want to reciprocate!” The three times that people usually send gifts are after a deal is done, after a referral is closed, and at Christmas – and those are the three worst times to send a gift! At Giftology, they call this, “No ABC gifting.”   The Biggest Helping: Today's Most Important Takeaway   “You'll never regret giving more than is reasonable... That's where you separate yourself. When you do that, with whatever level you're at, people notice.”   Of course, John also has a gift for all of you: a list of the 10 gifts you should avoid giving to clients!   --   Thank you for joining us on The Daily Helping with Dr. Shuster. “The gift is supposed to represent the value you place on the relationship.” - John Ruhlin (click to tweet) Why is gift giving such a challenge? We know the people around us; we know their likes, their interests … but when we want to celebrate them, all great gift ideas go out the window. Amazon becomes our search engine. Wine and chocolates are a go-to. On today’s episode of Steal the Show, we are joined by John Ruhlin to unpack the performance of gift-giving. Yes, gift-giving is a performance--one that has true craft and technique. John is the founder of the Ruhlin Group, a company that develops relationship-building strategies and VIP-gifting programs to increase referrals and strengthen retention with their most important employees, clients, and prospects. John’s clients include the Chicago Cubs, San Antonio Spurs, DR Horton, Morgan Stanley, St. Louis Blues, and hundreds of other industry leaders and high-end service firms. His second bestselling book Giftology: The Art and Science of Using Gifts to Cut Through the Noise, Increase Referrals, and Strengthen Client Retention can be found here Listen to today’s episode to hear John’s insights about gift-giving, and how we can best approach the often difficult task of finding that great gift for the people in our lives. “In business, we call it marketing. And we don’t realize we’re spending money to damage relationships because we’re making it all about us.” - John Ruhlin (click to tweet) Steal The Points Marketing is typically not gift-giving because we make it about us. Don’t give gifts with a transactional mindset. Try to give gifts that people can use every day rather than those that are consumed and disappear. Treat gift-giving as an opportunity to inspire the recipient, rather than just hand off a possession. Understand what the recipient wants, and then align the gift with that.

John’s Ah-Ha Moment As a kid, John’s life changed when he started working for Cutco – not because he was selling great knives, but because he knew a very generous businessman and they worked out a gift-giving deal. They started sending gift boxes that included both pocket knives and kitchen knives to the CEOs of multimillion dollar companies. When John asked why they were sending kitchenware to high-powered CEOs, he was told, “If you take care of the entire family, everything else in business seems to take care of itself.” By the time John got to college, he was the best salesman in the history of Cutco (and found a new niche). “Nobody was teaching business leaders how to leverage gratitude as a competitive advantage in business.” –John Ruhlin If you want to start giving better gifts and leveraging gratitude in your life, check out The Top 10 Worst Gifts to Avoid Giving at giftologybook.com/jesse. In this episode… There’s a reason John is seen as the master gift-giver. He understands the value of giving and discusses why it’s so important to make gifting a core value of any company. From the highs and lows, through the high-profile clients, to the most outrageous gifts he’s given, John gives us insight into how he’s become so successful by mastering the art of gifting. As one of 6 kids growing up on a farm, John learned early that he had to work for whatever he had. His parents taught him a strong work ethic, which has served him well as he built his business and wrote a successful book. As a child, John envisioned being a doctor because he wanted to work with his head and not his hands. He discusses how that all shifted when he discovered sales and found himself truly enjoying the process of connecting with clients. His first selling gig? Knives. John would go on to be the top seller in the 65-year history of Kutco knives, so it’s pretty clear he had a knack for it. Once John discovered his passion for sales, he would leave his dreams of going into medical school behind. He would take selling from residential to businesses and would find himself at the helm of a quickly-growing business.
