Looking for bikepacking ideas for an adventure in North America? Then you need to listen to this episode with Jen Adams, bikepacker and curator of the Log Drivers Waltz - an 800km circuitous bikepacking route in Canada. Jen and her husband Eric pieced together this route after taking their own bikepacking trip, and realising they had quite a lot to offer up to adventurers in Ottawa, Canada. Jen has been very active in the outdoor adventure sports community - you could say since childhood. She is a champion ski marathon racer, as well as accomplished Canoe guide as well. But lately, bikepacking has become her passion and it really shows.In 2022 she took a 8,800km bikepacking trip taking in the grand departs of both the Tour Divide, as well as the Log Drivers Waltz. The experiences gained on a trip this big are many and varied, and I especially enjoyed listening to Jen share her insights during our discussion. IOM Post Office has just issued a set of ten stamps to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Manx Wildlife Trust with designs by MWT Artist in Residence, Clare Payne. We hear more about the work of MWT from Community Ranger, Hannah Phillips, including its role in The Manx Nature Show in Cathedral Isle of Man, about which Outreach and Education Manager of Manx Whale and Dolphin Watch, Jen Adams, reminds us. One of Florrie Forde's hit songs was 'Flanagan' from 1910. It brought a response from another Australian performer in Britain, Billy Williams, who in 1911 announced that 'I'm the Man that Buried Flanagan'. However, that can't have been true because Florrie Forde was able to say, 'Hello there, Flanagan!' as he returned to the Isle of Man in 1919.

Canna Markets Group (CMG) is a hemp industry information repository, think tank, and consultancy that provides data, analytics, strategic planning, business planning, and project management services to a wide variety of customers throughout various industrial hemp supply chain sectors based on a diverse industrial hemp and environmental sciences knowledge base Joseph B. Carringer is a Syracuse University alumni with academic focuses in Creative Leadership, Project Management, Anthropology, and Philosophy. He began pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors in apparel in the early 1990s. His background in men's and women's fashion translated to working opportunities with multiple startup hemp-based apparel companies beginning in 1997. In particular, two corporate projects focused on designing and merchandising men's and women's hemp-based apparel lines targeted for large-scale US-based mall chain distribution. Joseph understands the nuances and vital importance of establishing a vertically integrated industrial hemp supply chain as well as the need and know-how to produce and market quality hemp-based consumer goods to support the growing industrial hemp supply chain. He formed Canna Markets Group in October 2019 with his executive team. Jen Adams has nearly two decades of experience in the nonprofit and community development space. Her background includes work in disaster recovery and rebuilding programs. She has sat on multiple nonprofit boards and currently sits on the board of a 501c3 that focuses on environmental and social responsibility. Jen's work acts as a liaison with local, state, and federal departments, assisting with streamlining economically and ecologically efficient processes for the industrial hemp market. Additionally, she has done significant research in programs for Canna Markets Group (CMG) surrounding the availability of federal funding and regulatory processes for soil remediation, brownfield site recovery and climate healthy commodity/supply chain development. Lorelei Alverez, a West Virginia native now residing in New Mexico, earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Science from the University of Virginia. Her Ph.D. research focused on grassland degradation in the Southwest of the United States, specifically examining the effects of wind erosion on native grass species over time. Prior to her Ph.D. research, Lorelei completed a Master's in Environmental Issues from Longwood University and conducted research on forest recovery comparing different timbering methods (shelterwood vs. clear-cutting). She has been involved in environmental research projects in Virginia Piedmont region, Coastal Virginia, New Mexico, South Africa, and Botswana and is currently an Assistant Professor at New Mexico State University. She is passionate about promoting sustainability, climate change awareness, and education on environmental issues and solutions and is currently completing Purdue University's course on “Hemp Essentials” to learn as much as possible about this crop's potential.

What if, instead of worrying about winning games, we got our athletes to focus first on 'Winning the Day'? If they focused on their very best, working for the greater good of the team, and getting better every day, what kind of transformation would occur? Bio Hall of Fame head coach Cindy Timchal was named the first women's lacrosse coach at the United States Naval Academy on August 5, 2006, and in short order, has laid the foundation for a Navy program that is moving quickly in its quest to become a NCAA Division I power. Timchal, who is entering her 36th year as a head coach, is the NCAA's all-time leader in career wins (491) division I women's college lacrosse. Additionally, her eight national titles are the eighth most by a coach in a women's sport in NCAA history, and the 26th most in all sports, men and women combined. In her 10 seasons at the helm of the Midshipmen program, Navy has accumulated a terrific 155-43 (.783) record, won five Patriot League Championships and has advanced to five NCAA Tournaments (2010, ’11, ’12, ‘13, ‘17). In 2017, Timchal and the Navy lacrosse team made history as it became the first Service Academy team from a women’s sport to advance to the NCAA Final Four. Timchal's coaching career got its start at Northwestern in 1982. During her nine-year tenure with the Wildcats, she compiled a 76-40 record (.655) while leading the program to five NCAA appearances. While at Northwestern, Timchal made it to the quarterfinals, earning appearances in the NCAA Tournament in 1983, '84, '86, '87, and '88. In 1991, she made the move to College Park to revive and renew the strong tradition of the University of Maryland lacrosse program. Prior to her arrival at the storied program, Maryland’s last title had come in 1986, but almost immediately the Terrapins restored their reign atop the sport. Timchal's first year saw a 14-3 mark and a trip to the NCAA finals. By 1992, the lacrosse world sensed something special was on the horizon at Maryland. Despite being at a place with a rich history in lacrosse, few could have predicted that a dynasty so powerful was on the horizon. With a 14-1 record, the Terrapins took the 1992 national title – the third in school history. Individually, her athletes have earned countless accolades and awards. Maryland had 21 first team All-Americans in her last nine years, and 13 players took home national offensive, defensive or goalkeeper of the year awards. Jen Adams became the first-ever winner of the Tewaaraton Trophy, which recognizes the top collegiate men's and women's player in the country, and Kelly Coppedge was a finalist in 2004 and 2005. In 1996, Kelly Amonte became the Terps' first four-time All-American, including first-team honors in 1995 and 1996. From Kelly Amonte Hiller to Cathy Reese, Alex Kahoe to Alexis Venechanos, Jen Adams to Kelly Coppedge, the one constant amongst all of the great Maryland players was Timchal. In just five of her 16 seasons at College Park did Timchal lose more than three games in any one season, highlighted by spectacular undefeated runs in 1996 (19-0), 1999 (21-0) and 2001 (23-0). She took Terrapin teams to the NCAA finals in 11 seasons, including an unprecedented stretch of seven straight national championships – the third-longest championship streak in women's NCAA history. In addition, the run puts Timchal in the company of coaching legends like UCLA's John Wooden who won seven straight titles with the UCLA men's basketball program from 1967-73. A total of 53 different student-athletes earned All-America recognition a total of 95 times under Timchal including Kelly Amonte Hiller's four, (1993-96), and three each for Betsy Elder (1992-94), Sarah Forbes (1995-97), Laura Harmon (1993-95), Sascha Newmarch (1996-98), Jen Adams (1999-2001) and Kelly Coppedge (2002-04). In 2005, Acacia Walker earned first team honors, Greta Sommers was named to the second team and Annie Collines was named third team All-America. Adams' third-consecutive selection as Player of the Year in 2000 marked the 10th time one of Timchal's players have earned National Player of the Year honors, including Amonte Hiller, who was named the 1996 NCAA Division I Most Valuable Player. When the ACC's 50th anniversary Women's Lacrosse Team was announced in 2002, Timchal was selected as the head coach of the squad and had coached 22 members of the team. Nationally, 18 of Timchal's players have played on the U.S. Developmental team and five were members of the most recent championship U.S. World Cup team. Seven former Terrapins helped lead Australia to the 2005 World Cup title in Annapolis, including tournament MVP Sarah Forbes. All totaled, 13 Terps represented three countries at the World Cup. Beyond the numbers, though, Timchal has done her part to revolutionize the sport of women's lacrosse. Timchal brought some of the most influential names in the sport through College Park, including former assistant and lacrosse legend Gary Gait, and Terrapin stars Cathy Nelson and Jen Adams. In addition, former Maryland players have become a fixture on national teams and within the collegiate coaching ranks, demonstrating the breadth of Timchal's influence. In 1996, she introduced a new wrinkle to her vast coaching repertoire as she brought aboard the wisdom of California-based spiritual advisor and renowned author Dr. Jerry Lynch to enrich the minds of her student-athletes. That decision complemented the already high level of physical conditioning it takes to excel at the Division I level and has since become a widespread trend used throughout the world of sports. The word "Inflowment" brings forth into our experience the idea of life in balanced and harmonious flow. Today we welcome Gizmo, Wonder Doglet and his Human fren, Jen Adams. Gizmo "the Wonderdoglet" wears many different hats. As a certified therapy dog with Paws For Friendship, Inc., he visits hospitals, group homes, rehab centers, a dialysis center, assisted care facilities, libraries and a large urban high school. He also works with many community organizations to increase awareness of positive things happening all around us. As the face of his own nonprofit (501( c )3 pending), Gizmo's Frens, Inc., Gizmo helps raise awareness and funds for charities including pet rescues, food pantries, cancer awareness, veteran's organizations, and children's charities. He appears in poet Geri Jones' latest book "Inspirational Pomes by Jones" in her poem "Gizmo Wonderdoglet". He has appeared as a guest on WDRC 102.9 Talk of Connecticut, and is featured in an antibullying music video. He appears on the cover of the Spring 2014 American Dog Magazine, where he is their first feature in the new section “Little Dog With a Big Heart”. Perhaps Gizmo's most interactive venue is his popular Facebook page, Gizmo's Frens (http://www.facebook.com/GizmosFrens). Gizmo and his FB page have been described as a lens through which we see good in the world. Gizzy's motto is "Cuz we're frens!" and that is exactly why does what he does.
Breed Specific Legislation allows the government to declare certain breeds of dogs as 'dangerous'. Jen Adams, an activist against BSL, speaks about the problems with this type of legislation, which discriminates against the breed of the dog and fails to address the treatment of the dog by its owner.
