Incredible podcast with My British Family My sister Tanya her kids Ryan and Alexa. We did a nice podcast about the story of finding each other through DNA testing. I've grown up knowning nothing about my father and I've only had 1 picture of him. Tanya has provided 50+ more pictures and tons of stories ans facts about my dad. It's been something I've always wondered about my whole life. We both knew each other exist but didn't have full names or updated information. I've spent the last 11 days with them taking them all over Wisconsin.

This new Documentary TV Show, Inside Senior Living, is going to take you on an eye opening journey behind the scenes with real families navigating the conversations and decisions to move into a senior living community. Executive Producer and Host, Melissa Fritz, is a certified lifespan wellness coach. Her passion for helping seniors and their families started as a Sales Manager for Brookdale Senior Living and with her own experience being the daughter of a father who had Alzheimer's Dementia and recently passed away after living in a memory care community. The idea for creating Inside Senior Living was born after witnessing the isolation of older adults at the senior living community level during the Covid-19 pandemic coupled with her search to find quality informative, inspirational and entertaining content to share with caregivers and family members. Shows like HGTV's “House Hunters,” Netflix “World's Most Amazing Vacation Rentals,” and TLC's “Long Lost Family” gave Melissa the inspiration to create a docu-series, home-search style TV show made specifically for seniors and their “sandwich generation” adult children. Her mission is to bring the conversation of aging and senior living choices into mainstream culture. She has an unwavering compassion and energy that I know you'll love. TV Presenter, Radio DJ and host of the BBC's hit show, Long Lost Family, Nicky Campbell, is back to talk all things family, music and dogs. What do the Rolling Stones, finding long lost family members, elderly Labradors and West Highland Terriers have in common? Nicky Campbell of course! Nicky has had a long and distinguished career as a radio DJ, a TV presenter, and an animal lover. Along the way he has interviewed legendary bands, presented Top of the Pops, hosted his own successful radio shows, and has always been in the public eye, but it wasn't until a nervous breakdown that he truly came to understand the power of animals. Adopted at a young age, Nicky understands what it is like to discover family members again, which makes him the perfect presenter for the achingly beautiful TV series, Long Lost Family. But it is his dogs that fill him with joy and it is their power that has helped him on what has been, at times, a difficult journey.

Davina McCall has been an energetic and enthusiatic presence on our TV screens for decades. As a teenager I loved watching her dating show Streetmate, and God's Gift which I adored. Then I was glued to the screen as she fronted Big Brother for 11 series between 2000 and 2010, and more recently she's presented ITV's emotional series Long Lost Family and of course the pure fun show The Masked Singer, which I did a couple of years ago and it is back again this month. Davina and I spoke in November when I was just back from Australia so I might have been a *little* woolly but hopefully not too bad. We talked about her difficult start in life when her mum left home, but she expalined how she had two wonderful female role models in her life - her grandmother, Pippy, and her stepmum, Gabby. She told me about the joy of having three older children, two of whom have left home, but explained you still have to be available at the drop of a hat, when they need you - something I found strangely comforting. We also spoke about her personal passion project - educating people about the menopause, which has seen her present two documentaries, and, along with Dr Naomi Potter, write a book called Menopausing, which has certainly helped take away any ignorance and fear I have about the subject. Finally we plotted to do something outrageous together one of these days... just to shock you, and our children! So, watch this space.Spinning Plates is presented by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, produced by Claire Jones and post-production by Richard Jones Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

“One day I would just wake up, like, let me look for my sister.” – Sarah Murphy Have you been touched by an Angel? If not, get ready to hear from one, as she takes us through one of THE MOST epic and fantastic voyages through identity and sisterhood that one could ever imagine. Sarah Murphy, after spending years in foster care, is reunited with her mother at 14 years of age, only to find out that she has a sister that she has never met. Suspicious and doubtful of this story, she delves into crates of newspapers and scans microfilm, searching for truth and clues about the baby that her mother abandoned behind a mall, wrapped in her clothes. After years of what appeared to be a fruitless mission, the introduction of DNA tests (Ancestry) finally cracked the door to her sister, Patrice. Milton resident and adoptee Cindy Dort has spent half her life searching for biological family. But it has not resulted in the happy ending you'd see on TV shows like TLC's "Long Lost Family." Instead, hers is a rare case marked by twists, turns, dead ends, uncertainty and tragedy. On this episode of The Eagle: A Times Union Podcast, reporter Leigh Hornbeck and Cindy Dort recount the story of her ill-fated quest to find out where she came from. Also on this episode, reporter Claire Bryan takes a deep dive into controversy centered on a local girls soccer club team, and Times Union Editor Casey Seiler discusses an alarming spate of shooting deaths and violence that has occurred in the region this month.
Nicky Campbell is one of Britain’s best-known radio and TV presenters - a voice and face of calm, decency and reason. A personality whose talent, craft and ambition led him to Radio One, Wheel of Fortune, Top of the Pops and Watchdog. For the last 18years he has presented the Radio Five Live Breakfast Show and since 2011 Long Lost Family – where he helps reunite adopted children with their birth parents. Yet for so many years, away from the microphones and cameras, Nicky was secretly battling mental health issues that flowed from his own adoption as a baby in Edinburgh. After meeting his birth mother, Nicky’s struggles for identity deepened, ending with a breakdown in 2013. After that dramatic collapse outside Euston Station, he was diagnosed as type 2 bi-polar … a condition that he discovered his birth mother had also suffered. Nicky came through thanks to the support and love of his wife Tina, their daughters and his beloved dog Maxwell. He has detailed his emotional journey in his brilliant new book One of the Family. A raw, intense but valuable conversation for anyone struggling to understand themselves and their identity.Nicky's Crisis Cures:1. The Beatles – I fell in love with them when I was 12. I remember hearing my sisters ‘With the Beatles’ cassette – they just spoke to me. It has a hymnal quality which I find incredibly moving - I want ‘Hey Jude’ played at my funeral. 2. The Highlands – We took our holidays there. The smell of the heather, the smell of the ferns. The burns, the fields and the farms and the midges and the rain – I adored it. It’s where I feel the happiest3. Book - On The Origin Of Species – Charles Darwin. I’ve got into the whole idea of common ancestry – I love that phrase of Richard Dawkins “The Magic of Reality” - the idea that science is more spiritually spine-tingly amazing than anything in the scriptures. I’ve really got into that.Links:Adoption UK: https://www.adoptionuk.org/David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage: https://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/ One Of The Family: https://www.amazon.co.uk/One-Family-Maxwell-Changed-bestseller/dp/1529304253The Wild Swan at Coole - Yeats: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/43288/the-wild-swans-at-cooleShow notes: Nicky’s life as I’ve said throughout this interview was, until 2013, something of a slow-moving crisis. He says himself that his adoption provided a drive, an ambition that led him to being so successful. But it also laid the tracks for a darker, more difficult journey – a journey to discover his identity – and which ultimately led to the bipolar diagnosis he shares with his birth mother. He spoke thoughtfully about coming to terms with the paradox of adoption as he calls it … that he wanted to belong with his birth mother, but he didn’t want that to mean he’d no longer belong with his Mum and Dad Frank and Sheila.Nicky’s analysis of that paradox – and how he managed to resolve it – I thought carried wider lessons for anyone in crisis. As he puts it ‘It’s okay not to know how you feel and it’s okay to feel nothing – to just go with the flow’. Though simple, it’s an approach we can all deploy from time to time. The dogs in Nicky’s life have clearly played an important part too, offering him incredible support over the years. From Toby, the dog he spent the first nine days of his life with, then Candy – his childhood companion, through to Maxwell his current dog who inspired a book and as Nicky says – changed his life.Stream/Buy ‘Allies’ by Some Velvet Morning: https://ampl.ink/qp6bmSome Velvet Morning Website: www.somevelvetmorning.co.uk

Long Lost Family presenter and Radio 5 breakfast show host Nicky Campbell reveals how the simple unconditional love of Maxwell, his Labrador, turned his life around and helped him come to terms with his difficult journey as an adopted child. Dogs have been the common link between the key moments in Nicky Campbell's life: there was Toby, the dog he never knew and who sat devotedly by his cot before his adoption, and then the adorable fox terrier Candy, who arrived soon after he was happily adopted. Nothing could replace the loss of Candy when he died suddenly, when Nicky was only eleven. Yet it took the arrival of Maxwell, an affectionate Labrador, for Nicky to uncover the simple truth a dog can reveal. The long journey he's been on to cope with the difficult emotions of his adoption, the discovery of his birth parents, his fears of abandonment and the solace he's taken in animals of all kinds, have led Nicky to truly understand the life-changing lesson a dog can teach us: that when we strip away our follies and foibles, the only thing we ever really need in life is love that is given and received freely and unconditionally - just the way a dog does.

Today on The Neil Haley Show, The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Lisa Joyner (Host of TLC's Long Lost Family). TLC's moving docu-series LONG LOST FAMILY, led by hosts Chris Jacobs and Emmy Award-winning journalist Lisa Joyner, both of whom are adopted and have personal experience tracing their own biological family members, returns for a third season on Sunday, April 8 at 10/9c. This series offers viewers the chance to hear stories from people who have endured a lifetime of separation, and who long to finally be reunited with family members with whom they share an innately deep connection – but who, in many cases, they have never met. As the individual participants embark on these emotional journeys, their lives will be changed forever. In each episode, Chris and Lisa focus on two unique stories in an effort to resolve the lifelong searches previously ensued by the participating parties. With everything from closed adoptions, to family secrets standing in their way, the path to finding long lost family members is always different and extremely challenging, and the stakes are high. Not only does a successful search bring the possibility of a heartwarming reunion, but also a chance of redemption for people who have been subject to decades of emotional agony. Over the course of this season, viewers will meet a woman haunted by the memory of the sister she first met, and last saw, in a courtroom at the age of seven; a man, who at 48 years old, was traumatized to find out he was adopted, after his adoptive parents had already passed away; and a man who discovered that the mother who placed him for adoption already had three sons whom she kept.

Bible Reading Plan - www.Bible-Reading.com; The Story, Chapter 25; You Version Bible app Engaging God's Story Reading Plan Days 169 through 175 Have you ever had a question stuck in the back of your mind that you just can't seem to break loose? I've had a few of those through the years. Some seem silly now that I'm in my sixties. Many I still don't have answers. Some of those silly questions include things like will I ever be rich and famous? Will anyone ever remember my name when I'm dead and gone? What can I do in life to make sure my family and I are comfortable? How can I get ahead in whatever career I might be in at the time? Silly questions because none of the answers or outcomes from those questions really matter in the long run. What good is money when you're dead and gone? Who cares about fame when their bones have crumbled in the grave? What does comfort have to do with anything and it's all relative anyway. What does it mean to be comfortable? Is that the absence of pain and disease and injury? Will I be able to live in a bubble to avoid all sickness the rest of my life? Silly questions. But there are some questions that did mean something and are really important. What is God's plan for my life and am I able to discern it? Do I know my sins have been forgiven and that God's Spirit lives in me? Have I done my best to live my faith in front of my children so they share my understanding of God, my values, and my faith? These are important questions in life. I'm learning the first about God's plan for my life is not as important as God's purpose and then live my life in his purpose. And what is that? His desire and his purpose is that all would come to know him as Lord and Savior. He wants all to know him and to follow him. God desires more than anything to have an intimate, face-to-face relationship restored with each individual he created throughout time. So then, my question changes to how can God use me to further his plan on earth? How can I be an instrument for him? The older I get, the more important I find the second question. I also find more people asking that question as they approach death. How do I know my sins are forgiven? How do I know God saves me? There is a great verse in 1 John that helps me and that I share with others to help them. It goes like this: “If we confess our sins, he (Jesus) is faithful and will forgive us our sins and will cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” So there is it. Have I confessed my sins to him and asked for his forgiveness? If I have, he is faithful and will forgive. It's a promise he has made to us through his word and God never goes back on his word. I can know that my sins are forgiven when I confess my sins and do my very best to follow his teachings. That doesn't mean we have carte blanche to go out and do whatever we want and then come back and throw confession in God's face. God knows the difference between true repentance and playing the game of religion.Saying the right words and singing the right songs. He tells us not to test him in that way. But when we come to him repentantly, he forgives. It is his promise to us. That next question, I must look in the mirror and some days I must admit to myself I haven't done my best. Sometimes I let my family and friends down. Sometimes I'm not the example I should be. Sometimes I let my anger or frustration or disappointment or some other negative emotion get the best of me and I don't respond to circumstances the way I should. I'm not the Christlike example I should be to those who are watching me. On those days, I need to not only ask God's forgiveness, I need to ask the forgiveness of my family and friends. I let them down and I need to recognize my fault and failure with them. I must remember the cross has two beams. The vertical beam that requires confession and a request for forgiveness from the Father because of my sins and failures in living my life for him. But it also has a horizontal beam that reminds me that I have a responsibility to those around me. And I must ask forgiveness from them when I fail them in living a Christlike example in front of them. But the question that each of us must answer that makes all the others pale in comparison is the one Jesus asked his disciples in Caesarea Philippi. “Who do you say I am?” That is the eternal question for each of us. In your mind is Jesus who he says he is? Is Jesus just the historical teacher many claim him to be? Or is he just a good man who did some amazing things twenty centuries ago? Or is Jesus truly God incarnate? The one and only Son of the living God? The one who came to give himself as the ultimate sacrifice for the forgiveness of sin for all who will accept his gift of salvation? Your answer to this one question determines how you will live your life. It will determine how you approach every other decision that comes your way. Your answer will decide your eternal destiny. And no one can answer that question for you. It is a question that everyone faces and everyone must answer within their own heart and mind. And when each of us stand before God on the final day of judgment when each of us will answer for the way we lived our lives. We won't be asked how much money we made or how many houses we owned. We won't be asked if our names were in the newspaper or we were listed in “who's who”. The one question that will be asked and searched out in the book of life is while we took breaths in this world, who do we say Jesus is? Do we know him to be the Son of the living God and live for him...now. But now is the testing ground. Now is the time we have to decide if we will live for him or not. We either accept his gift of forgiveness and follow him or we don't. The choice is really that simple. Living for him is not easy in an evil world, but the choice is simple. We believe in him or not. We follow him or not. We know him as the Son of God or not. We trust him for our salvation or not. Simple choices, but not easy ones in today's world. They have never been easy. They were not easy when Jesus walked the dusty roads of Jerusalem. If you followed him then, it meant persecution, beatings, stoning, the cross, death. Today if you follow him, it means persecution, perhaps beatings, isolation, suffering, maybe even death. The road is not an easy one. But the choice is still a simple one. Jesus asks, “Who do you say I am?” Everything, all eternity hangs on your answer to that question. So what do you believe? Are you ready to follow? Millions before you have known it is worth it. How about you? You can find me at richardagee.com. I also invite you to join us at San Antonio First Church of the Nazarene on West Avenue in San Antonio to hear more about The Story and our part in it. You can find out more about my church at SAF.church. Thanks for listening. If you enjoyed it, tell a friend. In this episode, I discuss finally getting to meet a huge portion of my family that were previously little more than a mystery to me. After 33 years apart, I got to meet my dad face to face for the first time since being three years old. The discussion covers what the trip was like, what we did together, along with the overall raw emotion that came hand in hand with a reunion of this magnitude. With this episode, I hope that I can somewhat convey how great it feels to know what it feels like to no longer be alone in the world.
Tucked away in my mother's house, somewhere in the room that used to be mine, is a Nintendo GameCube that's not mine. My own GameCube is God-knows-where—languishing on some GameStop warehouse shelf, or in someone's garage, buried beneath an electric drill after an impulsive used-game purchase in the late 2000s. But this other GameCube, the one that's there now? I have no idea how it got into my room.
It's an emotional story this week of a man desperate to be reunited with his family -- a scenario that tugged at our hearts and that of staff at a motor service company.
Lisa Joyner has been working in television her entire professional life and is currently co-host of the TLC show Long Lost Family and. Her passion for adoption advocacy and stories that bring families together truly shines through and I believe many people will find it inspiring. When I was doing my research on Lisa for this interview I realized we actually have a lot in common. We both have Emmy's. We both got our start as journalists, reporting news in small markets across the US. And eventually we found our way into the entertainment world because let's face it, local news can be a huge bummer. Entertainment stories are fun and don't make you want to cry every time you report it. Something we both agreed on was how much your perspective on news changes when you become a mom. You suddenly don't want to report on murders and fires. There is a desire to look for something positive and uplifting. And it was during her time as an entertainment reporter for outlets like TV Guide Channel, the NFL Network and Good Day LA, she found a passion for creating television shows as well as hosting them. She and her husband actor Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men) sound like they have a lot of fun together. To hear her tell it, they just get each other's humor and have like-minded business goals so working together was a logical step. They started a production company called Discount Sushi and tells me a very funny story about how that name came to be. She tells me they are always looking for great stories to tell and content to develop. I quickly realized she had her own wonderful story to tell when she shared her personal adoption story and why she chose adoption when it came to her own daughter. She says it changed her entire outlook on life and has created a drive to advocate for adoption and give support to families going through the adoption process. TLC'S Long Lost Family follows the stories of people who have, for one reason or another, experienced long-term separation from members of their family and are seeking to be reunited with them. After a lifetime of separation, birth parents will reconnect with their biological families and children will meet the parents who put them up for adoption years ago.’ Lisa has a special connection to these people because she's an adoptee who experienced her own journey of finding her biological family. When you are the in presence of a storyteller it's hard not to feel inspired. Telling stories is in Lisa's DNA and I am so honored that she shared her story with me. I can't wait to see what Discount Sushi comes up with next and don't be surprised if you see her doing even more to bring awareness to adoption advocacy. Then, it’s a castle for sale in Ireland! It’s been owned by a renowned family since the 1930s. Hear how much you can get it for! And, for St. Patrick’s Day, David tells you about the blog TheShamrockGenealogist.blogspot.com, which provides a great soda bread recipe, straight from Ireland. Next, you won’t believe the story the guys have to tell you about about a 14-year-old boy who, with his father, discovered the wreckage of a World War II German Messerschmitt… on their own farm! David’s Blogger Spotlight this week is on Dick Eastman’s Online Genealogy Newsletter. Next (starts at 10:38), Fisher visits with Boy Scouts of America volunteer, Gary Pack, who has headed up the Scout’s Genealogy merit badge program. Gary is a former IT man for FamilySearch.org, and has great insight into how you can use the Boy Scouts’ techniques to introduce family history research to your children and grandchildren, both boys and girls. He shares some amazing experiences and stories from setting up a research center in tents at a national jamboree! Then (starts at 24:16), Jennifer Utley returns to Extreme Genes, not only to share some insight on this season of Who Do You Think You Are?, but also to talk about Long Lost Family, its sister program also airing on TLC. Who Do has quite the all-star cast this year, and Jennifer will tell you one story about an ancestor from the cast of Friends. Then, Tom Perry of TMCPlace.com brings his unique insight into preservation. The result of another listener question about transferring digital material back TO VHS, Tom answers the question “WHY?!” He also tells you how you can do this yourself, and what kind of equipment you will need. That’s all this week on Extreme Genes, America’s Family History Show!
