Together they discussed the Nobles—the old prospector and the weary, frightened man. Then—utter terror struck! The Nobles Are Coming by Arthur Jean Cox. That's next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast.Today's featured fiction is like a bite-sized candy bar—same rich ingredients, just in a smaller package. Arthur Jean Cox, born in 1929, was a science fiction fan before becoming an author. Based in the Los Angeles area, his work appeared under a variety of names, including Ralph Carghill, Jean Cox, Gene Cross, William Dean, and John Thames Rokesmith. From the pages of Fantastic Universe Magazine in October 1954, the same publication that brought us Office Call by Charles E. Take one tiny memory out of a man's life—and the entire universe may turn topsy turvy. My Past is Mine by Gerda Rhoads. That's next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast.Another podcast and another vintage science fiction author you've probably never heard of. The story you are about to hear is her first published story and as far as we can tell, her only science fiction story. We found three novels written by Rhoads, The Lonely Women, A Place to Sleep, and Enough Romance. There's a listing on eBay for an autographed copy of Enough Romance which will set you back $120.Her only sci-fi short story appeared in the October 1954 issue of Fantastic Universe. They had this to say about her, Gerda Rhoads was born in Vienna and came to the United States with her parents by way of London and Rio. She was educated at Hunter College, became a ballet dancer, took up painting and has done some very charming canvases. Then she married a painter and they went to Paris and she turned to writing. Sounds glamorous, doesn't it? With the publication of this her first story Gerda Rhoads proves her pen is glamor-tipped too. This interesting short story begins on page 82, My Past is Mine by Gerda Rhoads…Next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, Fear is often Man's greatest enemy. Jenn and Daren tribute Black writers in this episode for National Poetry Month. They start by highlighting Black poets that every reader should have on their pull list including Nate Marshall, Claudia Rankine, and Donika Kelly. Daren then dives into hard facts and figures related to how white-dominated the writing and publishing industry is, and how that can bring about specific challenges for Black writers. They share how difficult it can be to find people within the industry that understand your work, to find support for your art, and to find confidence in your own voice. In the end, Jenn and Daren share the personal struggles they have faced as writers and express how perfection can be the enemy of your writing success. Disciple Up # 283 Stewardship Part 7: My Past, Part Two By Louie Marsh, 11-9-2022   I forgot a very important passage last week when dealing with Stewardship of my Past.   “15The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. 16But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.” (1 Timothy 1:15–16, ESV)   Acts 22:1-11; Acts 26:12–29, ESV   But how does that fit in with this??   “2Look out for the dogs, look out for the evildoers, look out for those who mutilate the flesh. 3For we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh— 4though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; 6as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless.    7But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.    12Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. 13Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. 16Only let us hold true to what we have attained.” (Philippians 3:2–16, ESV)   ἐπιλανθανόμενος – most common word in NT, means to forget, neglect or overlook.   Paul didn't forget, since he remembered enough to repeat it and list much of his past in Philippians. HOWEVER, he did forget in the sense of overlooking his past. He was free from it even though he remembered what happened of course.   Forgive and forget.  But it can be done, and should and must be done, if we mean overlook, or neglect the guilt and pain of it. Instead, we focus on Christ.   Good stewardship is using my past, at the right time, in the right place, and in the right way.

Disciple Up # 282 Stewardship Lesson #5 -My Past By Louie Marsh, 11-2-2022   Stewardship:   Leadership Servanthood Trust/Faithful   MY PAST!   My Past -   “15but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,” (1 Peter 3:15, ESV)   I cannot bury it and pretend it didn't happen.   Nostalgia – idol of the past Denial – burying it Glorifying the past – living in it today. Shouldn't be ashamed of my past. Regret it yes but remember your forgiven.   Paul's use of his past -  (Acts 22:1–5, Acts 24:10; 25:1-8; 26:1-2, 24) Paul calling himself the chief of sinner, 1 Timothy 1:15.   “15The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. 16But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.” (1 Timothy 1:15–16, ESV)   “1“Brothers and fathers, hear the defense that I now make before you.” 2And when they heard that he was addressing them in the Hebrew language, they became even more quiet. And he said: 3“I am a Jew, born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up in this city, educated at the feet of Gamaliel according to the strict manner of the law of our fathers, being zealous for God as all of you are this day. 4I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering to prison both men and women, 5as the high priest and the whole council of elders can bear me witness. From them I received letters to the brothers, and I journeyed toward Damascus to take those also who were there and bring them in bonds to Jerusalem to be punished.” (Acts 22:1–5, ESV)   “6“As I was on my way and drew near to Damascus, about noon a great light from heaven suddenly shone around me. 7And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?' 8And I answered, ‘Who are you, Lord?' And he said to me, ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting.' 9Now those who were with me saw the light but did not understand the voice of the one who was speaking to me. 10And I said, ‘What shall I do, Lord?' And the Lord said to me, ‘Rise, and go into Damascus, and there you will be told all that is appointed for you to do.' 11And since I could not see because of the brightness of that light, I was led by the hand by those who were with me, and came into Damascus.” (Acts 22:6–11, ESV)   “12“In this connection I journeyed to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests. 13At midday, O king, I saw on the way a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, that shone around me and those who journeyed with me. 14And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.' 15And I said, ‘Who are you, Lord?' And the Lord said, ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. 16But rise and stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you, 17delivering you from your people and from the Gentiles—to whom I am sending you 18to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.' 19“Therefore, O King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, 20but declared first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all the region of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds in keeping with their repentance. 21For this reason the Jews seized me in the temple and tried to kill me. 22To this day I have had the help that comes from God, and so I stand here testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would come to pass: 23that the Christ must suffer and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light both to our people and to the Gentiles.” 24And as he was saying these things in his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, you are out of your mind; your great learning is driving you out of your mind.” 25But Paul said, “I am not out of my mind, most excellent Festus, but I am speaking true and rational words. 26For the king knows about these things, and to him I speak boldly. For I am persuaded that none of these things has escaped his notice, for this has not been done in a corner. 27King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know that you believe.” 28And Agrippa said to Paul, “In a short time would you persuade me to be a Christian?” 29And Paul said, “Whether short or long, I would to God that not only you but also all who hear me this day might become such as I am—except for these chains.”” (Acts 26:12–29, ESV)   Pass along the lessons you've learned – teaching others, probably not in a classroom.

Nearly every billionaire who speaks on stage or at universities tells people to do something that is absolutely wrong. And I know this because, over the years I've had a good fortune of becoming friends with some amazingly successful people in the business world, and in the music industry, and in the entertainment field. Many of them are the exact people who have made those same speeches. Billionaires and CEOs of some of the most prominent brands in the world. And when I'm just sitting with them having dinner, or discussing business, what they say behind closed doors, or what they say when the camera is not on, is amazingly different than what they say from stage. Because from stage, they tell everybody to follow their passion. Yet, with very few exceptions, I have never met somebody who became highly successful following their passion. And looking back on MY PAST, and the conversations with these friends of mine about how we've become successful, it's never been about following our passion, it's always been about finding what we're good at and doing that. So, listen now and let me dig deeper into this...

My Grace is Sufficient for YouPrairie Bible Message, June 16, 20221 Corinthians 15:9-10 This was God's response to Paul when he pleaded with the Lord three times concerning his thorn in the flesh (2 Corinthians 12:9): “My grace is sufficient for you.” For all Christians in all places at all times, the grace of God in Christ has proven sufficient. Know this, Christian: God's grace is sufficient to meet your every need. May this message encourage you to cling to the grace of God in the midst of whatever trials you may be facing today.Take Home Message: God's grace is sufficient for my past, present and future.God's grace is sufficient for…- My Past.- 1 Corinthians 15:9-10a- For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am.- My Present.- 1 Corinthians 15:10b- And his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them.- My Future.- 1 Corinthians 15:10c- Though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. Simple. Authentic. Jesus. www.prairiebible.org

In episode #80 of The XS Noize Podcast, Mark Millar catches up with Belfast born singer-songwriter and producer Gareth Dunlop. Inspired by icons such as The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and Tom Waits, plus a soupçon of Pink Floyd, Dunlop picked up a guitar aged 14 and soon began performing covers and original songs in live venues around Northern Ireland, ROI and the rest of the UK. In 2011 he won a Young Songwriter of the Year award in Belfast that not only earned him an invite to collaborate with seasoned writers in Nashville, an experience he has repeated many times since, but it also enabled him to tour the US extensively. Animal consists of a diverse set of songs that include the soulful and anthemic Right about Ready and the first single Look Back Smiling - which evoke the ‘80s yet exude timeless quality. The highly atmospheric Sorrow and Prisoner of My Past both channel late-period Roxy Music and the laid-back ‘60s dream-pop vibe of Humans, plus a memorable title song, adds an electronic bounce to its subtle groove. In this interview, Gareth talks about his new album, Animal, songwriting, musical influences, etc.

In everything he followed the example of his father Joash. 4 The high places, however, were not removed; the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.5 After the kingdom was firmly in his grasp, he executed the officials who had murdered his father the king. 6 Yet he did not put the children of the assassins to death, in accordance with what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses where the Lord commanded: “Parents are not to be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their parents; each will die for their own sin.“And Joash did what was right in the eyes of the LORD all the days he was instructed by Jehoiada the priest.” 2 Kings 12:2 2. How should we answer these people who say to me, ‘Lighten the yoke your father put on us'?”10 The young men who had grown up with him replied, “These people have said to you, ‘Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but make our yoke lighter.' Now tell them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father's waist. 11 My father laid on you a heavy yoke; I will make it even heavier. A constant was John asking himself “What was the learning in that” This is a unique and authentic story.. John shares some really personal and never shared before stories when he was involved as a played for Scotland and coach at Yorkshire. It is a must listen….and a great opportunity to learn from his Sport Story. Welcome to episode 4 of “Quarantunes” where quarantine can’t stop our creativity! For this new episode, we get to experience musical expression by our artists at ART Center (Achieving Results Together) 0:33 “The Toy Shop of My Past” In this first song, the class wanted to do a song that was more upbeat, fun, and something you can dance to! Throughout the song, you can hear Eric, an artist at ART Center, playing the accordion and several other of his toys/instruments on top of instrumentation that was put together as a class. 2:30 “Hi Hi Hi” To start off the song, the class voted on a slower tempo. The class then wanted the song to sound happy. Next, they voted on all of the drum sounds and rhythms. Christy, an artist at ART Center, recorded her voice by saying “hi”. Eric then suggested we record a live sample, so he used the V-tech Little Smart Driver from 1989. Eric also suggested we put in keyboard clicks throughout the song. Our first recording together proved to be challenging, yet a lot of fun! 3:40 “Space Capsule” The class voted on doing a more electronic-driven song. The class started with voting for a fast tempo and leaned more towards electronic instruments. Eric started off the song with typing out a live sample. Maria, an artist at ART Center, also sang for the recording. 4:49 “Laboratory Experiment” This last song started off by messing around and getting acquainted with Chrome Music Lab, a free and accessible website that offers fun ways to experiment with music. The class played around with creating a melody they liked and exported it so they could expand on it just a little bit more. It was a new and fun way for the class to create a song! A very special thank you to artists at ART Center for their compositions and album artwork! Learn more about our organization by visiting AbleArtsWork.org Thanks for listening!

She asks Caroline, Anne and Gale for advice on how to find peace and perspective when surrounded by conflict. Gale has an imaginary argument about shrimp. Caro talks about the burn out that comes with anger. Anne has a moment of uncertainty that leads to her expressing her love of watching Kevin Bacon dance out his frustrations in an abandoned warehouse. There's also plenty of tips on how to deal with family about differing ideologies, including watching unifying shows like Parks and Recreation, arguing alone in the shower and making up songs to the tune of "Love Shack". They also try to come up with a way to hack Queer Eye.  If all else fails, there's always stepping out into a field somewhere and avoiding responsibility. Your Permission Slip to Be Weird I grew up under the impression that being weird was a bad thing. Being weird got you picked on and bullied. Being normal is what helped you fit in. I was definitely a weirdo growing up. Getting severely bullied made it hard for me to express myself as I got older. Popularity and acceptance are what I craved, so I did everything in my power to "blend in" with the cool crowd. It's funny how the theme has changed now that we're creative adults. We're told not to lose that child-like imagination. We're told being weird is a good thing and that showcasing your uniqueness is how you'll stand out. Back in episode 81, I gave you 3 Super Convincing Reasons to Show Your Weird and Wave Your Freak Flag. That episode was more of a permission slip for me to dig deep on the weird shit I loved as a kid and the weird shit I love as an immature adult. After attending Crop Conference last month, some of the biggest juggernauts in the creative realm all touched on this theme of embracing your weird—it just so happens they are all past guests on the podcast as well. I felt inspired to combine their episodes with my thoughts and go deeper on this weird subject of showing your weird. Today's episode is now a permission slip for you to connect the dots of your weirdness as a kid with your weirdness as an adult. Of course, I'm dishing out a fun drawing challenge with this to give you something to act on. More details on this at the end. Let's start with going over the juggernaut speaker quotes from Crop and use those as our foundation. Crop Conference Fuel James Victore During James's keynote, he talked a bit about his book Feck Perfuction. In his book and one of the messages he constantly drives home to creatives is the quote of, "The things that made you weird as a kid make you great today." This quote formed the theme for today's assignment and got me thinking about all the weird things I loved as the kid and how those weird things influence me today. You can listen to James back on episode 117 of the podcast. Jon Contino Jon Contino's talk was literally titled Born Weird. He embraces the shit that's made him weird in his past and influenced his style and the person he's become today. A quote that resonates with me the most was when he said, "Creatives get to be weird forever." He said that shit with so much conviction that it let me know I'm going in the right direction. You can listen to Jon back on episode 123 of the podcast. Lauren Hom Last, but definitely not least, Lauren Hom rocked the stage and dropped some gems about how her passion projects spoke to her inner weirdo. I'm meshing two quotes into one here when she said, "Embrace your inner weird. The things you love outside of design are the things you should explore in your work." It got me thinking: how can I incorporate the weird things I loved in the past and in the present and show more of it in my work? Again, more fuel to this drawing challenge I'm giving you shortly. You can listen to Lauren back on episode 75 of the podcast. My Past & Present Weirdness Since I've been back from the conference, I gave myself a little homework assignment to dig deep into the weird shit I was obsessed about when I was a kid. In no particular order, things I loved as a kid: Pizza Aliens and outer space Anything paranormal and supernatural Trees, clouds, and sun rays Cartoons: Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, Rugrats, Reading Rainbow Bob Ross Football and Basketball Cards Dragons and Grim Reapers Video games Pokemon and Zelda on Gameboy Mario on Nintendo Shaq-F, Sonic, and Tecmo Superbowl on Sega Final Fantasy, Tony Hawk, Madden, and Spyro on PlayStation Cool S Pencils, fine liners, black and white, and details over white space Laffy Taffy Jokes The things I love as an immature adult: Pizza Aliens and outer space Anything paranormal and supernatural Trees, clouds, and sun rays Coffee Cats Art supplies Game of Thrones Puns, Dad Jokes, Wordplay, and Alliteration Pencils, fine liners, black and white, and details over white space Fitness When I list out my past and present weird obsessions, I can easily start connecting the dots and see the overlap in my work. The Future Weird of Perspective-Collective As I niche down and start the next chapter of Perspective-Collective, there are a few things I'm tapping into as I grow to know more about myself. My goal isn't to attract and appeal to the widest audience possible like it once was. In this day and age of social media, people crave an authentic connection to those who aren't afraid to be their true selves in their work—both online and offline. I realize it's more important than ever to wave my freak flag with pride. Doing so helps me attract the right type of freaks to my tribe who vibe to my own flavor of weird. The rest can unfollow, and hopefully, they'll find their own community of like-minded weirdos. Waving my freak flag moving forward involves understanding, embracing, and showing those weird things that make me unique from my past and present to shape my future. That's where this challenge comes to play if you're vibin' to today's message. The Challenge: Show Your Weird #PCFlashSheet I want you to create a flash sheet (a collective collage of drawings) of the things that made you weird as a kid and now as an adult. Use my episode artwork today as an example or search Flash Sheet on Instagram or Pinterest to get a better idea of what I'm talking about. Tag me on Instagram on both my @prspctv_cllctv and @perspectivepodcast accounts and use #PCFlashSheet to make sure I see it. That's it! Use color, go black and white, make a photo collage, whatever you want. I'm hoping today's message and this challenge gets you one step closer to showing up and being your truest, weirdest self—the weirder the better. Enjoy This Episode? The staff writer Patrick Radden Keefe has reported on “The Apprentice” and its impact on Donald Trump—on how America saw Trump, and how Trump saw himself. Keefe spoke with Jonathon Braun, who was a supervising producer on “The Apprentice,” about how the show’s team reshaped Trump’s image, and how the news media are doing that same work for him now that he is President. Dan Kaufman, the author of “The Fall of Wisconsin,” explains how a deal to bring manufacturing jobs to an industrial town in Wisconsin became a boondoggle of national proportions. And Terrance Hayes, the author of “American Sonnets for My Past and Future Assassin,” reads a poem for the New Year.

In today's flash briefing poetry reading, Alonso Llerena is a guest reader. He reads Terrance Hayes' "American Sonnet for My Past and Future Assassin." We recorded in two different places and times, so the volume might jump around a bit, but it is worth it to hear his voice here again on the vlog's weekday readings! Plus, this is one of my favorite contemporary poems. More on Alonso Llerena -- Alonso is a poet and teacher in Washington D.C. of Peruvian descent. His work confronts being an immigrant here in the USA, but specifically as a Peruvian who left his country at a young age. His most recent work also addresses the Internal Armed Conflict Peru underwent from 1980-2000. He released critically acclaimed records during the 80’s and 90’s for some of the top labels of the day, like Rounder and Point Blank. The New Orleans native is rooted in deep blues but cut many funk grooves and naturally commands deep soul ballads with tremendous feeling. His debut studio effort for Anti-Records is a stripped down bluesy contemporary-Jazz project called “My Future is My Past.”

When the odds are against you, God is for you.  Title of message:  My Past is Too Bad  (Ephesians 4:29) (NIV) Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (Colossians 3:8) (NIV) But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. (Ephesians 5:4) (NIV) Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. We all have a past we are ashamed of, but God can use it if we'll surrender it to Him.  (Acts 26:4-5) (NIV) The Jewish people all know the way I have lived ever since I was a child, from the beginning of my life in my own country, and also in Jerusalem.  They have known me for a long time and can testify, if they are willing, that I conformed to the strictest sect of our religion, living as a Pharisee. (Acts 26:9-11) (NIV) I too was convinced that I ought to do all that was possible to oppose the name of Jesus of Nazareth. And that is just what I did in Jerusalem. On the authority of the chief priests I put many of the Lord's people in prison, and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them. Many a time I went from one synagogue to another to have them punished, and I tried to force them to blaspheme. I was so obsessed with persecuting them that I even hunted them down in foreign cities. (Acts 26:12-14) (NIV) “On one of these journeys I was going to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests. About noon, King Agrippa, as I was on the road, I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, blazing around me and my companions. We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? (Acts 26:15-16) (NIV) “Then I asked, ‘Who are you, Lord?'  ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,' the Lord replied. ‘Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen and will see of me. 1.    God's Presence is what changes us (Proverbs 16:25) (NIV) There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. 2.    God always asks us to get up (Acts 26:16) (NIV) Now get up and stand on your feet. (Isaiah 60:1) (NIV) “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. (Acts 26:16) (NIV) I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen and will see of me. 3.    Our Past can become our platform
