How best to write about love and other things. Nabeela Ahmed talks about writing in a second language and how her early life in Kashmir shaped the language she uses to express different aspects of her life. She is also a champion for the Pahari language in her home city of Bradford. Pahari is a language spoken by people in Northern areas of India, Kashmir and Pakistant. It fell out of favour as an official language of the courts but is still widely spoken in many British Asian homes today. Nabeela works with groups of budding poets and writers to help them express themselves in whichever language they feel comfortable with alongside English.Producer: Maggie Ayre

Representative Nabeela Syed is the youngest Democratic member of the Illinois House and discusses her battle for gun reform. She gives us FOMO and nostalgia for our birth state (even Uzma is proud to admit this now), and so much hope, because the legislature was able to pass a law banning military-style assault weapons. Common sense gun control IS possible, y'all! From her earliest memory of active shooter drills as a young child, Rep. Nabeela knew that it was messed up to deal with guns this way. Hear about gun reform and what the Muslim community can do to help make her job easier. Remember, as the youngest member of the state legislator, she is helping make America safer for our children and grandchildren and will be around a while insha'Allah to do it. Nabeela Ixtabalan is Walmart Canada’s new executive vice president of people and corporate affairs—and when she introduced herself to the company’s 90,000 associates she identified as a “recovering workaholic.” That’s an apt label for someone who was running a multi-million dollar business in her 20s (then as an executive at Starbucks) while at the same time parenting her first child and putting herself through grad school. But the pressure she put on herself provoked debilitating panic attacks. In this episode, she speaks with host Shaun Francis, CEO of Medcan, about her “baseline”—the set of self-care strategies she now uses to maintain her own mental wellness. WE ARE BACK!Second Album Syndrome is so 2020, and I am so very excited to finally share this episode with you all.I had the privilege of sitting down with Brent, Liam, and Nabeela from Vincents Accounting. We bust some common tax myths, have plenty of laughs, and talk about how COVID will impact our tax returns and what the Federal Budget means in practical terms.I'd love to hear what you think of it!Take care,Paula.......Had a chuckle?
